Okay so Trump has won now what?
I don't really know
But here is what I do know
The listeria outbreaks are from Trump deregulating food back in his first term
So I would recommend looking into a vegetarian diet or a local butcher, it will be pricier
You can also raise meat animals, lots of places will allow a small number of chickens and they get fed pretty much your compost and you can feed your eggs back to them (it's actually really good for them)
If it's an apartment look into quail
You can also do rabbits anywhere because they classify as pets but you wouldn't be keeping them as pets and I can tell from experience from when my parents attempted to keep rabbits, they are assholes and very hard to maintain
You can also hunt but you may need to take weeks off of work for it
Trump also wants to put a 25% tariff on anything from mexico
That is 90-99% of all your food depending on where you live. I am on the southern border so everything local except milk is from mexico
I recommend a garden and plan it out with your friends
You are not going to be able to replace everything especially not with the abundance needed
There may be things that you eat a lot of that even if your friends have it you should grow anyways
Most common is tomatoes. Especially if you have anything with ketchup and tomato sauce
A good plan is to evaluate what you eat, I mean break down everything into it's bare ingredients
That way you can get a good look at what you consume the most
Take one meal at a time so it's not overwhelming also consider what foods you are willing to sacrifice
This is a small start of what I can think of. These are things you want to start now so it's established by January
It might be good to join self sustainability groups like homesteaders or preppers but only if you can keep your mouth shut on anything political
And I mean like your tongue is under lock and key, if they ask because you are being quiet you just shrug and go "I don't really invest in politics"

If you became super rich and could design your own house, but could only add THREE unnecessary/random/expensive home additions (like how people will have bowling alleys, movie theatres, closets with museums of shoes, car display rooms, spa rooms, wine cellars, etc. in their mansions) - what three would you choose?
#I think I would have: an indoor pool (but like heavily customized with a faux weather system so I could get the feeling of swimming in#rain or fog or snow etc.). a very small arcade consisting only of skee-ball and DDR machines. and an old Library Room with authentic#historical furniture/interior design to store old books/tapestries/study room equipment/whatever other antiques I'd collect. It'd be#like some fully intricate movie set or something that would feel completely like stepping into another world/time.#Though I might would trade out the arcade for a roller skating rink.. i DO love skating....#And I wouldve put rock climbing gym because I love indoor rock climbing but.. as I understand it they have to change out the rock things#on the walls every once in a while so that you can have new routes and it doesnt get boring. and I'd rather have an activty room thats like#self sustaining and doesnt require me to hire some person to come switch things around once every month. Otherwise I would#totally do that instead.#I'm also personally not counting ''craft'' type stuff like having a pottery room kiln sort of thing because#that doesn't count as 'unnessecary' to me. since stuff like that would not at all be just a hobby I 'happen to#do sometimes for fun'#but would definitely be a career sort of thing. Like if I had the money for a fully stocked sculpture room and and a sewing room#with a good machine and etc. then I would literally be professionally selling pottery and designing clothing and etc.#so I wouldn't count it as 'just a random side room I dont need' etc.#The same way that if I played tennis professionally or as a very intense hobby that takes up most of my life/time#then I wouldn't count having a tennis court in your house to practice in as 'unncesscarry' etc.#wow that is the worst I have ever spelt that word ghbjh#Un Cess Carry#ALSO would obviously have an underground bunker of some sort with food and emergency supplies which also does not count as unnecessary to m#since it's literally like... survival.. And I thought most health organizations literally reccomend that even#the common person has a small 'go bag' prepared in their house. and like an evacuation plan in case of fire or other things#It WOULD be an unnecessary rich person thing to have a full on undergRound village or something stocked with 9000 guns and#whaetever. but I think just a basic emergency room with basic supplies could still be counted under the 'not unnecessary' requirement.#Like I would say that a sprawling courtyard of flower gardens and fountains and hedge mazes that takes up like a hundred thousand#dollars a year in maintenance would count as one of the three 'unnecessary and expensive' things. But having a small garden in the#back yard with a few planters in a little greenhouse or whatever would not. The 'excessiveness' of the thing matters lol#ANYWAY!!!#Just curious what other peoples Three Main things would be... hrrmm

Garden update today :)
We had some more gloomy wet weather so unfortunatly some chores and errands fell through and I'm a little behind on some maintenance as well as seed uppotting
Sadly I don't think any of my peppers are going to grow. A few of the tomatoes have sprouted so there is at least that. Unfortunatly i dont think they will be ready for transplanting by valentines day. They'll be a little behind anyways.
Here's the cabbages now~
I'm very excited to see these growing so well this season :D they are transplanted and these 4 are the survivers so far.
The carrots (don't mind the weeds, I'll be yanking them as soon as I catch up, as long as I get them before seed they make excellent salads for the chickens)
The nasturtium, there's some flowers tucked up inside them, a few yellows this season, not to many red or orange so far.
The broccoli and a close up of one that seems to be growing multiple little florets now :D
The lentils I put in the L bed are starting to sprout now too :) I think this upcoming season I may plant cucumbers or melons of some sort.
And a bit excited, a lil garlic peice is starting to peek through!!
Oh! I also saw 2 of the wild love parrots this morning in one of the neighbors' trees!!! I have no choice but to always have sunflowers growing and will need to accommodate some grow space for them now 😂 their pretty rarely sighted in the area im at so I am super stoked to see them.
hopefully, they are able to find enough food to hang out for more than flying through, and that people get to see why having green spaces in cities is important to more than just human benefit.
That's it for now :)
🌻Happy homesteading and gardening 🌻🌱

The Basil is dead :(
The wandflower is likely dead too :(
Killed by the heatwave combined with me forgetting to water for 4 days due to a combination of health issues and emotional breakdown.
I was mentally prepared for the Basil but the wandflower is a huge loss, that baby is a perennial and i love(d) her.
#my garden savvy friend said theres a small chance i might revive the wand flower#its completely brown but its a bit hardier than basil#the basil is completely withered. there is a slight amount of green. it was already dying beforehand bc of getting ate by lanternflies#i'm watering them both now#hoping they survive#james also said to use plant food for the wandflower but idk how to do that also no money lol#gardenblr#gardening#plant died

not to be old, but omg im so excited, we got a free potted lime tree from someone that was just going to throw it away, i can tell it was not being cared for and probably has never fruited before, fixed it up with a bigger pot and some food and water etc, i hope he thrives in his new home
#the baby had such dry cramped roots i shall be pouring lots of love and attention to you now. dont you worry little guy >:3#i love getting food from the garden its like a free hit of dopamine. and i am looking forward to seeing him look happy#instead of the sad leaves hes got now. its like man youwere not cared for and yet you are surviving as best you can let me take care of you#which might sound looney but plants are indeed alive i dont think its that nutty. anyway im genuinely so excited#gardening

Some food I've made lately
#ok to reblog#cooking lily#i love my bread machine i love cream cheese i love chicken#this is your sign to fry chicken nuggets. air fry shallow fry deep fry idk just try it#hell. this is your sign to take the foods you like and learn how to cook them. its so nice#the turkey sandwich and chicken salad sandwich? my faves from Einstein Brothers Bagels#the alfredo? my fave from Olive Garden#why go to a chinese buffet for Philadelphia rolls when you can make them#not all of these recipes use a stove (you technically don't even need a toaster for the sandwiches i just think it gives them good texture)#most of them are pretty easy (id say the hardest was the fried chicken breast bc hot oil is scary)#you need to eat to survive so eat things that make you happy!!

honestly byan probably has lived in someone's attic like a fucking raccoon ngl
#made a little nest among all the boxes stored in there#sneaked down to steal food out of the fridge if it was possible without making too much noise#just hid up there with no one in the house being aware of it at all bc it beat sleeping in a garden shed or on a rooftop#........i'm trying to keep this funny but it's hard to not venture into the depressing aspect of it#bc it WOULD be during those times they were kicked out of foster homes & trying to survive on the street#uggghhh it's funny for a few seconds when you think about them basically just living in someone's ceiling#but immediately after that it's just like '.....oh :('#asfhjksd i was trying to distract myself from an emotional reply but all i did was make myself more emotional oops#━━ ˟ ⊰ ✰ ooc ⋮ don't @ me.

It's been a month since this peacock appeared in the garden behind our university. I don't know where he came from, and I surmised he must have escaped from some house with a courtyard in the vicinity. This garden is also connected to a wood north of the city, but nobody ever heard about wild peacocks in this area. So, me and my colleagues started leaving seeds on a plate and a cup of water outside. The peacock stayed, and my friend gave him the name "Vinicio". Now it's been a month, it has snowed a couple of times, and temperatures are dropping during the night, but Vinicio seems to be doing fine.
As soon as he spots us, he usually starts turning away, but the other day he finally approached us and looked at us with his dinosaur eyes.
#peacock#I really hope Vinicio will survive the winter#we won't be able to bring him food during the christmas holidays#anyway it's so surreal to have a peacock roaming around in the garden behind your office#it's like a baby dinosaur#we also saw him flying up to the branches of a pine tree#so I learned that A) peacocks can fly and B) they sleep in trees for protection against predators

So if you know me in rl or we have been mutuals for a year plus
Then you know I actually lean hard into traditional skills and will randomly hyper fixate and want to just disappear into the woods on a backpacking trip and just make a whole homestead
Well I just got some massive validation and go ahead to actually make plans to do it
So just a heads up you may get rants on sustainability and green houses and why we need basic survival skills instead of relying so much of electronics and internet (in a non ableist way)

Learn to be More Self-Sufficient:
Consider this: Living things, like humans, consume food and water to survive. When we can no longer buy what we need to survive, will we revert to savagery, die or peacefully and lawfully raise and gather our own? With each passing day, the world gets crazier and more volatile. In a serious national or global food shortage, where will you get your food when your sources and stockpile have been depleted? When that last "straw" breaks the camel's back, don't be caught unprepared. It is not enough to hoard food and water and supplies. They won't last forever. Applying methods to self-replenish these resources is necessary for anyone serious about emergency planning. 🥳🥳🥳🥳
The cucumbers are starting to come in, ive picked 8 that are about 11-13 inch long with more to come :)
The front side pics only today, since the back is weirdly sparse at the moment.
Guranteed there will be a few hidden ones ive missed too. This is 3 or 4 plants, a couple died before taking off almost overnight so I'm not entirely sure.
These are a striped variety of armenian cucumbers, I like them because~~~~~
🌱once they get going they are very prolific producers on few plants.
🌱Fruit can be 12+ inches long and I've found some as thick as a watermelon once (was not tasty. The chickens loved it tho!) Bigger than 1.5 inch wide tends to start getting seedy.
🌱They can get some whacky shapes.
🌱If established and given a watering 2x a day for about 10-15 (early morning, sunset/dusk) before heat hits heavy, they will generally continue producing long after most other plants have finished. For my area that's about 3 days of sustained 105+*f. These cukes kept producing right through the summer with little stuttering.
🌱Did I mention they produce a lot? I'm not kidding, we grew I think 6 plants the very first grow (other varieties have done very poorly) and got over 200lbs of cucumbers. It felt very much like the zuchinni grow season joke. We had enough for us, The chickens and regular gifts to at least 5 other households with plenty extra to gift to coworkers and classmates. 😂
🌱They are pretty set em and forget them, trellising them this year is something new im trying so I can work out ways to produce more food on a urban sized lot.
🌱personal notes, no cucumber urps :D so if ya suffer from them, this could be a variety to try.
I've tried a few other varieties (pickling, lemon, straight 8s, english) and not been as successfully as these have been. At this time their gonna be the ones we grow from now on. I'll try others, but like said just haven't had luck with them.
They either grow too slow, weak and sickly or the 2 times we got fruit they were waaaay to bitter.
These seeds came from a packet at one of local libraries seed library. I'll be trying to figure out how to save the seed this year to return some back (which is all they ask folks to do, is return seed if possible) if it's viable.
I'll be for sure bringing some nasturtium and hollyhock seeds in the next time I'm up since both produced well this time :)
I don't wanna endorse any one seed page specifically at this time for addutional grow info, Since I like to get seeds from local or regional growers (small business's or gardeners and hobbiest most preffered), thankfully there's at least a Wikipedia page with some interesting info and an edu page too :)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_cucumber
https://extension.usu.edu/yardandgarden/research/cucumber-in-the-garden
That's it for today :)
