John Surtees was een succesvolle Britse motor- en autocoureur. Tussen 1952 en 1960 werd hij 7 keer tot Grand Prix Motorcycle World Champion gekroond, waarna hij de overstap naar de Formule 1 maakte. In de twaalf jaar dat hij in de koningsklasse van de autosport reed, heeft hij 24 keer op het podium gestaan en in 1964 werd hij samen met Ferrari wereldkampioen. Tot de dag van vandaag blijft Surtees de enige persoon die wereldkampioenschappen heeft gewonnen in zowel de motor- als autoklasse. John Surtees overleed in 2017 op 83-jarige leeftijd.
