how to install dashboard unfucker (for desktop)
hi i use desktop and i use the dashboard unfucker extension by dragongirlsnout and you should too because it's awesome. i don't know much about computers so it was intimidating to set up but ended up being really easy.
but first:
what is dashboard unfucker?
dashboard unfucker is an extention that makes being on tumblr bearable again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ID: 2 screenshots of tumblr with urls/posts etc censored. the first is with the new layout, with labels on the left, the ad-free button, "check out these blogs," "explore all of tumblr," the radar, and no easy way to access your own blog. the second is with the extension enabled, the left hand side of the screen is empty, posts are wider, navigation icons are back at the top right, and the only thing on the right-hand side of the dash is the dashbaord unfucker and limit checker and tag replacer from xkit. end ID)
i got it for layout changes like these- the first is cramped and ugly and i feel like i'm on twitter. the second is warm and comfy and i can make my posts wider (i dont like all the empty space). (limit checker, tag replacer, and post color were done on xkit and palettes respectively, not unfucker, btw)
with the dashboard unfucker you can:
hide the following/blog subs/for you etc tabs
get rid of the changes/staff picks/etc carousel
hide recommended blogs and tags
add profile pics back to posts
hide the radar
hide the explore page
hide tumblr shop
hide user badges
highlight bots in ur activity feed
show who follows u in the activity feed
make posts wider/slimmer and move the dash posts position to the left/right
revert messages design (and make the messages box bigger)
revert activity feed to the old design
display vote counts on polls
show poll results without clicking (no more skewing polls or "see results"!!)
disable tumblr domains
add polls to reblogs
disable "post without tags?"
show ns.fw posts
and other things that i probably missed copying this from the settings!!
so how do you do it? it seems scary but it's easy actually. take my hand
(note: i did this on firefox and tested it on chrome, i'm not familiar with other browsers, also use firefox if at all possible fuck chrome)
how to install dashboard unfucker
step 1: install either tampermonkey, tampermonkey beta, greasemonkey, or violentmonkey (if you don't already have it)
note: im using tampermonkey as an example because it's what i use
step 2a: go to firefox extensions/chrome web store/your browser's equivalent
step 2b: look up "tampermonkey" and click "add to firefox/chrome/whatever" and confirm
step 2c: you're done! yayyy
step 2: click this link. look under "installation" where it says "Click on unfucker.user.js to install or update". and click that
Tumblr media
(ID: a screenshot of the tampermonkey install page, showing dashboard unfucker v5.7.8 installation information, the source code, and the install/cancel button. end ID)
(it should open in a new tab and look like this)
step 3: click install! (when i did this it didn't look like much happened and i got scared. dont get scared take my hand)
step 4: go to www.tumblr.com and to the right of the dash it'll have the dashboard unfucker label to the right!
Tumblr media
(ID: the default dash again, but with the dashboard unfucker title at the top right of the right-hand side of the dash. end ID)
step 5: click the little gear icon and all the options will pop up! u can fuck around with em to ur heart's content. i recommend exporting after ur done and saving it somewhere in case u have to uninstall/reinstall to troubleshoot or smth
you're done! now u can see the results of polls without clicking them and other such things
Tumblr media
(ID: a poll i have not voted on. it has 17 votes and 23h 56m remaining. the title is "poll :)" and the answers are "answer 1" "answer 2" and "see results". there are no percentage labels, but the amount each answer has is indicated by light blue bars in each result, as they would be if i had voted. end ID) note: i'm not sure how/if this aspect of the extension is indicated for screenreaders
THIS POST IS TRANSGENDER BTW!

I just wanted to say that I am in AWE of your organization skills. That masterlist is masterfully done. I’m trying to do something similar for my own blog, but I’m having a hard time figuring out categories and making sure things don’t overlap and everything is easily findable. I aspire to get it looking like yours!
@thegirlsinthecity Thank you for your kind words 😊. It's still an imperfect system (some tag overlappings that seemed like a good idea at the time, now I'm doubtful about, and the Archive view is rather unwieldly), but hopefully it's useful for the visitor.
This whole thing grew with time, and I wouldn't be able to handle it if not for a few tools. Just in case you didn't know them, they are:
XKit: a desktop browser plugin that brings a set of little fantastic "quality of life" tools to Tumblr. The ones I use the most are:
Quick Tags, where I have a lot of tagging presets. Most of times, adjusting them is just a matter of deleting some tags in the result of its application (for example, when a fan art post isn't about SWTOR, I just delete that tag), which is fast to do.
Tumblr media
And One-Click Postage: it has the Reblog button bring up this little panel that can produce a reblog, a scheduled one or a draft at the click of one of those bottom buttons. The beauty of it is that it can auto-tag with the original post's tags and the name of the original blogger (which is great if one is doing a reblogs drafts spree while idly scrolling the site and wants to later remember what they were about, for when the time comes to tidy them up and reblog them). That, or let you add the tags from the very Quick Tags list, either at that moment or while editing them.
Tumblr media
They are a lifesaver. The thing is, there are several XKit variants around, each with a different level of feature parity and compatibility, but they can coexist. I'm mostly using @new-xkit-extension for classic editor posts and reblogs, and XKit-Rewritten for the new editor ones.
And speaking of lifesavers: given the poor state of Tumblr's blog maintenance tools, every time an artist changes their blog's name or I discover a better way to tag old posts and reblogs, the idea of having to edit a lot of them becomes quite dreadful. There is, though, this tool: tags.circumfluo.us. Basically, a web application that offers tag search-and-substitute functions (including replacing sequences of tags, say, find A B C and replace with A D C keeping that order).
Tumblr media
One must be a little careful when the list of posts exceeds certain amount, as Tumblr has some daily limits for this kind of post modifications (at worst, you can find out that it didn't manage to process all of them and that you can't post any more for the day, but you could do it again another day to process the ones left). It is great for massaging the way one has tagged things into shape.
So, I'd say just tag things in a way that feels usable to you 🙂. Consistency doesn't have to be perfect, although these tools make it far easier, and you can always readjust things later with tools like that webpage.
And again, thanks for the praise. I really love it when people find this thingy of mine both useful and usable.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR THOSE MAKING NEW RP BLOGS
NOTE: because my other blog got term.i.na.ted i thought i'd go ahead and copy / paste this into a post on here and give a more clear and better understanding of everything.
as some of you are aware, anyone who makes a blog on or after of november 26, 2022 are unable to use LTE. if you've made a blog prior to this update, you will see an option to switch between BTE and LTE in the top right corner of their browser. it would look something like this for those who do have it:
Tumblr media
what this means is that the staff is on the roll with fully implementing and enforcing the BETA TEXT EDITOR on everyone. not only that but i'm going to assume that they're going to be making a site wide update within the next month or two ( march at the very latest ). what this means is that literally everybody is going to be forced to use the BTE whether they want to or not.
and not only that but it's gotten to the point to where the new xkit is slowly but surely breaking for people because of how outdated it is and the staff enforcing us to use the BETA TEXT EDITOR. so i definitely recommend y'all going ahead and embracing BETA TEXT EDITOR as well as getting xkit rewritten for when the day actually make the site wide update for literally everybody.
so with that being said, here are a couple of addons i recommend y'all getting:
limit checker: this is an absolute life saver. i kid you not. it tells you the number of asks you sent as well as text / video / videos / etc. posts you've made among a few other things. it's super neat.
mass deleter: unfortunately this only deletes stuff from your drafts and queue but it's definitely worth getting if you have tons of stuff and / or are a hoarder.
mass unliker: i like to sort through my likes every once in a while tbh but if it gets out of hand and you tend to have 8,645,132,154,568 likes then feel free to use this so that you don't have to go through each and every thing in your likes.
mutual checker: do i really need to explain this one?? being able to see who you're moots with via dash is 1,000,000 times easier than going to your followers and CTRL + F nonstop.
tag replacer: having a mass tag replacer is, without a doubt, an absolute life saver. this is especially useful for us roleplayers who tend to change our aesthetics from time to time and have updated our tags. and even if you don't change your tags regularly it's still worth getting this.
tag tracking+: this lets you know when you've been tagged in something!! ah!! 10 out of 10 love it.
timestamps: this is a must for just about all of us in the tumblr rpc. it lets us know when those we follow / moots have posted! so that definitely helps out a lot. it also allows you to choose between the standard format and iso 8601 format, so there's that!
trim posts: thankfully this addon isn't as confusing as it was when first implemented. thankfully it's a lot more user friendly and easier to use now! but keep in mind that you cannot trim legacy posts in this. all replies have to be strictly done in BTE otherwise it's a one-sided editing spree. no exceptions.
there are a bunch of other little addons you can pick from as well but these are some that i use and can't seem to recommend enough tbh!

since there are a lot of new roleplayers migrating here from twitter here are some small reminders!
- READ RULES. THE BIGGEST TIP FOR TUMBLR RPC IS TO READ EVERYONES RULES BEFORE YOU FOLLOW, this is a diverse community with minors, people who are 18+ only, mutuals only etc. roleplay is a two-way hobby and requires effective communication between partners, and reading rules is an extremely important step towards this! PLEASE read rules and respect them!
- if someone states in their rules that they require a password, SEND THE PASSWORD!! you can request to the other mun not to publicly post the password if you are anxious enough! the worst that can happen is a soft/hardblock!
- please fill interest trackers on multimuses (and singles if they have them)! they are there for a reason! even if you believe that following someone is enough to show you're interested, a lot of muns will not know what piqued your interest! especially when your muse is from a source the other mun may not know!
- you do not owe anyone replies! i'm not sure how twitter works, but here you can take as much time as you like! your drafts and queue are your best friend! use them!!! a lot of muns will not punish you for not replying the second they post their reply!
- cutting posts/adding read mores are essential to a tidy dash, your mutuals will thank you! there are plenty of extensions such as xkit that help with this! i may make a separate posts with links to tutorials for this if anyone is curious!!
- don't censor words! the tagging system here works perfectly fine, by censoring trigger words or content warnings, you put muns in more danger! the most common tags i'd recommend are "content", "content cw", "content tw", "content //" and "user don't look"! replace content with the tag, or user with a mun!! always ask your partners what tagging systems they'd prefer or make it clear how you tag your content! please avoid tagging content like "c*nt3nt"!!
please feel free to add more!

// Heya! The mod of this blog here!
From what I’ve gathered, a lot of people, especially in the splat rp community are new, which is great! As someone who’s been roleplaying for a long time, I love seeing new faces. However, it also seems less veterans of similar communities are around and as such, tips and tricks that people have learned with askblogging and rping on tumblr haven’t been regularly brought up!
So consider this post a helpful guide to tips and tricks to rp blogging on tumblr! I’m not here to tell anyone how to do things, but these are simply things I’ve learned and I personally think help enhance the experience! If you have advice you want to add, or questions you want to ask, feel free to add on, ask me or DM me! Without further ado, let’s get on with it!
Tumblr media
QOL Tip 1 - RP icons!
While not necessary for the rp experience, icons can help with viewer engagement and also visually spice up text; especially if there’s lots of it! While any size would be fine, 100x100 pixels or under is recommended! This is to avoid making the post longer than it should be! I’ll be using some of my mod icons throughout this post to demonstrate! You can acquire icons under the various ways: canon art, fanart, or your own art! Canon and your own art are easy, since people know the source and you don’t need to credit yourself! If you want to use fanart, be sure to ask artists for their permission and credit the source!
Tumblr media
QOL Tip 2 - Blog themes!
I’ve seen a surprisingly low amount of custom blog themes! In fairness, tumblr has been kind of quietly shoving them away for some time now, though it’s one of the best features in my opinion! It’s a classic part of older internet culture, where you get to cultivate a theme to what you want to portray! Don’t know how to code? There’s plenty of free themes people upload for use! One of the most famous blogs to get them from is theme-hunter, though individual theme makers may have their own blogs so be sure to be on the lookout!
Tumblr media
You can enable custom themes in your account settings! Click the edit theme button aaand!
Tumblr media
You’ll find the custom theme button right at the top of your settings! You simply replace all the code in here with a custom theme you found! Be sure to try and make it legible for others to look at!
Tumblr media
QOL Tip 3 - XKit!
It occurs to me not many people may be aware of what XKit is, so here’s a quick rundown: it’s a third party add-on that improves your tumblr browsing experience! Whether it’s aesthetically or functionally, XKit is here to help! There’s been quite a weird experience with the add-on for years; a history I won’t step into right now, but XKit Rewritten is openly available and free to use! I highly recommend using its many features if you haven’t already. Here’s both the Chrome and Firefox versions!
Tumblr media
Blog Tip 1 - Blogs are your friend!
I’ve seen a lot regular anons rping in inboxes lately, which is well and good! But personally, I like being able to find stuff I send people, or being able to reblog it somewhere specific or keep my muses I send out in order! If you operate from a main blog, like I do, sideblogs are great to make and simple! Being able to keep your muses and any asks you send out organized in one spot not only helps yourself, but anyone you send asks out to or you want to reply to I would say this is a bigger personal decision than some of the other stuff in here, but I find it helps in the long haul especially if you want to keep certain things going! Even a blog where you can just reblog asks you send out would be nice! If you wish to not reveal your main blog for whatever reason, you can simply send it on an anon and include your sideblog’s url in the ask!
Tumblr media
Blog Tip 2 - Organization and Setup
If you’re intent on having a blog, simply having a blank page can only take you so far! There’s a few important things that I highly recommend blogs have if they wish to help themselves and others.
1. Tagging system: While not required, personally I find this helps me stay organized! Sometimes, all you need is to tag asks or rp responses, but I also like to tag anons and specific blogs I interact with! It helps when I want to look through something and I can use the tagging system instead of the search one, which sometimes leaves posts out! (Note: As far as I’m aware, the tagging system on blogs recently changed when trying to find them from how it used to be, so be aware of that!) Another important thing with tagging systems is to keep them consistent! This may seem obvious, but I had a serious issue with this when I was younger and had about 3 tags with slight variations of each other so none of my posts showed up in the same tag! 2. Blog pages: Even with the default themes, you can make custom pages on your blog that’ll even show up on mobile! (There’s a button for it to show up on the page, though most people link them in custom themes.) You can use this for many things, such as a reference page for your characters and other things, but I highly recommend setting up an about/rules page. These help with interaction between other users
Tumblr media
Blog Tip 3 - Roleplay and Post Length
Roleplay is one of my favourite parts of blogging in these sorts of communities; getting to interact with other bloggers and muses is awesome! Which is why it’s so important to keep your experience in mind when roleplaying! Ye olde ancient tip is to “trim” rp posts that are starting to get long! What’s trimming a post mean, you might ask? Well, rp posts tend to get rather long on tumblr, and it can make it a lot to scroll through! Both for you and others. Trimming it allows the rp post to not be as long, but you can still continue with your partner(s). My recommendation is to try and trim before 5-7 replies are hit, but this can vary dependent on the length of replies!
There’s two main ways to trim posts! 1. Use XKit’s feature: XKit has a feature that allows you to trim rp posts; it can end up a little funky sometimes, but it makes things shorter for sure! 2: Make a new post: This may seem like a lot, but making a new post is no big deal! It’s main done by linking the previous reply somewhere in the new post and either pinging your partner or messaging it to them!
Tumblr media
As previously mentioned, I hope this doesn’t come across as me telling anyone what to do. These are just things I learned when I started roleplaying, and I’ve kept with me since then. And I hope they help you! If you’ve made it this far, I hope it was a helpful read at least! I tend to not make posts like this; I certainly didn’t expect to make one on this silly kitty blog but what can I say. People outside of the splat community are welcome to rb this if you think it’ll help! I may have missed something, or may not personally use it, so feel free to add on things in the replies or reblogs!
I hope you all have a nice day, and thank you for reading and following this blog if you do!

for those lucky enough to have not been hit by the update yet, this is what i'm talking about:
Tumblr media
opened the settings dropdown menu so you can see the font. now, admittedly, some things on the right like the tag replacer and tag tracking have been added with xkit, but the main issue is everything going on on the left.
again, it's not a big deal. i will inevitably get used to it just like i got used to the beta editor even though i also still hate the beta editor for making it harder to format anything, but it really makes me raise my brows that tumblr is leaning harder into looking like other social media.
i genuinely don't know what to do in this situation. leave staff feedback and low reviews on the app store? throw some money at them in case it's a money issue and they're doing this because they're dying against the competition?
kind of wish staff would be open and transparent with us about why they're making these changes so we know how to better support them so they don't have to do this. because even though tumblr says they're not going to force algorithms on us or change the chronological dash, the gradual morph into looking and behaving like other social media does not instill me with a lot of confidence.
anyway, i don't wanna clog anyone's dash with too much negativity on what is ultimately a small matter. i just gotta grimace and get the unease for tumblr's future out of my system. sad as it is to say, this is one of the very few places that i can still find some scrap of serotonin and i hate thinking about it eventually becoming unusable for the things i like using it for. never mind the fact that it's still arguably the best place for creatives to share their work. once tumblr isn't that anymore, i'm not sure where artists are supposed to go, because even the sites dedicated to sharing artwork don't have the longevity and community that tumblr does. just a bit disappointing is all.
.......why is tumblr desktop laid out like twitter now.

How were you able to to go so far back in the tag to get to s3?
Gonna make this public just in case anyone else wants to know :)
First of all, this only works in a web browser, not in any of the apps AND I think you have to have endless scrolling turned off (so you have the next page buttons at the bottom of each page).
You also have to make sure you’re using the classic search (aka the url says /tagged/ instead of /search/. You can do this with xkit or just by replacing /search/ with /tagged/ so it looks like thr url below:
Tumblr media
You see that number at the end of the url? That’s a unix time code. You can go to this website to convert any time into a code just like this.
Example: Entering this:
Tumblr media
Will give you this:
Tumblr media
You then copy that green number and paste it into the url in the place of the number at the end of the url in the first screenshot.
Tumblr media
Hit enter and suddenly:
Tumblr media
You’re seeing posts in the tag from a year ago :) (As seen in the time stamp under the usernames).

i was posting a8t this on twt 8ut if you have any trigger at all that is a word or mmmmay8e a series of words im not sure how it words? i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting a word replacer extension. the way it works is you put in a word, or words, that you dont want to s33, and it will. replace it. with. something else that you put in. so if i dont wanna s33 the word “kittens” ever, i can replace it with like, “cats” or “kitties” or “[cats]” or “[literally just felines lol]” do whatever u want with it. 8oth of the ones i use (on firefox and chrome) each word is its own seper8 little section? so if i wanted to replace “kittens” with “[cats]”, 8ut “kitties” with “[felines]”, i can do that (kinda a weird example the way i actually use it is so i can make the replacement words “[word]-ed”, “[word]ing”, etc, and actually know what im reading without having to read the trigger itself) it Can’t replace Audio of the word 8eing Spoken, or the word if it’s on an image (ex. an image of a dog with a kitten next to it, with the caption “this mom dog adopted a kitten!” isn’t going to hide the word ‘kitten’ in the image), so if you a8solutely cannot afford to hear or read it in any circumstance ever then just like.... 8e careful, 8ut word replacer extensions do cut down on a LOT of s33ing that word, at least in my experience 8ut it does replace the word if it’s Inside other words (ex. if you had ‘a8le’ replaced with ‘[...]’, the word ‘com8usta8le’ will 8ecome ‘com8ust[...]’), and if you have a “hide posts with this word” function on a site (ex. the one on xkit), the word replacer will 8reak it 8c it doesnt go “oh, wood, thats a filtered word, hide the post!” it goes “huh, [tr33]? thats not a filtered word. ur good to go king” so if Only the word isnt the issue and you dont wanna s33 Anything to do with that word, you might have to add 8oth the un-replaced and replacement for the word into your 8lacklist? 8ut i havent tested this i’ve s33n ppl with specific Names on their “please tag” lists, and this is like, PERFECT for that, it is Also good for! slurs! op of a post has a slur that’s your trigger in their url 8ut 8ecause it’s their url it wasn’t tagged? don’t have to s33 it now! person re8logged from someone with your slur trigger in their url? gone! untagged slur in general?? hidden!!!!!! tl dr get a word replacer extension lol

A Letter to WordPress
Dear WordPress,
Tumblr has been around for a good while now and many of us have been here since the beginning (or close to it). It’s become something of a comfort and a home base for many. You can understand then why it’s so terrifying and tension-setting when a new owner comes around.
This website has been through a lot of changes, very few of them good in recent years. I want to open up a dialogue from the user base about our feelings and desires surrounding this site, because to so many of us, not only its design and function, but its success and future are a big deal.
Obviously not all of the things I list below will be universal opinions, but I’ll try to outline some of the things I’ve seen the majority of users want. I’ll also throw in some things that are more personal, because I can’t claim to know everything the rest of the users want, but I can tell you where I see obvious problems.
First and foremost, here’s an obvious one. You can’t really go anywhere on Tumblr without knowing: we want the bots and the nazis gone. We need some kind of captcha system for every time someone wants to include a hyperlink in a post or response. Until the staff count gets higher, I would honestly suggest closing down the report system for everything but bots, nazis, and death threats/suicide bait.
Make NSFW content welcome again. Outside of porn bots, the pervasiveness of NSFW content is slim to none. As long as minors and those with ‘NSFW’ blacklisted aren’t seeing the NSFW content, there’s nothing wrong with it being here. A large number of the people posting NSFW content on here are artists who use this content to make a living on commissions. The ban has done nothing but make valuable members of the Tumblr community leave and take their art elsewhere. The focus should be cracking down on anyone who isn’t properly tagging NSFW content with ‘NSFW’. If the focus is put on that, the problem with NSFW content will be null.
Please keep Tumblr unintegrated with other social media. Most users will agree, the anonymity is such a huge part of what draws us to Tumblr. Other people only know what we tell them and it’s very appealing for our real life accounts (e.g. Google, Facebook, etc.) to be completely separate. When users want to share links to other accounts, they can do so easily with links on their blogs.
Replace ads with either, better, more sensible ads or members content. A large part of the ads on Tumblr make absolutely zero sense just by looking at them. Not to mention, they’re all completely unfit for the user base. I’ve seen weight-loss ads (harmful to the many people on the site recovering from eating disorders) and ads for products most people wouldn’t need or want until their forties. Most of the user base is 13-35, if I had to guess. I can tell you right now, you would make more money and the user base would be much happier if ads were removed in favor of members content. Adding a paid membership that allows users to gain access to new features (rather than restricting what’s already here) would be a huge boost in morale and company income. Use that income to improve the site. Don’t get comfortable making more than the bare minimum in profit until the website is functioning reasonably well. Hint: it’s not right now.
Keep the base functions of Tumblr. Don’t try and get radical, hoping big changes will excite the community. They won’t. We’re creatures of habit and we just want memes, fandom, and relatable nonsense. Keep reblogging, replies, customizable blogs, tags, and likes functionally the same.
Be receptive to bug reports and post change logs so that the community knows that they’re being addressed and fixed.
These are the obvious pleas of the community. Please keep in mind that the heart of Tumblr is in its users and if you ostracize us, there will be nothing left. We love this website and we want to see it thrive as much as anyone. We just don’t want to sacrifice the spirit of the community in the process.
Read more under the cut if you want to see some more of my own personal suggestions. I’d love for other users to sound off in the replies with whether they agree with any of the pleas or suggestions and also give their own!
Okay, so, here are some personal opinions that are by no means the voice of the community. I think they’re pretty sensible, but what do I know?
Change back the color. I hate this saturated navy color and I’m pretty sure a lot of others do too. I’m part of the disabled community and I know and have seen people saying that these extremely contrasted colors that were added are making their Tumblr experience worse. It gives people headaches due to light sensitivity and, frankly, it’s ugly. If you’d like to cater to those who are visually impaired/colorblind, that’s fantastic! Do so with an account setting that turns on higher contrast mode or adds patterns to things to make them distinguishable.
Add an option to blog suggestions and posts that have shown up on your dash from followed tags that says “Stop Suggesting This.” I’ve been suggested a number of blogs that I’m not interested in following. I don’t want to block the user, but I do want some different suggestions and for those blogs to stop showing up in suggestions. I’m also tired of seeing the same post twenty times from a tag I follow. There is currently an option that says “This particular posts sucks.” While I think that was a great attempt at catering to the community, I don’t want to use it because my intuition says that there’s a negative connotation. Does me saying the post sucks make it show up less for other people? Does it lose popularity? I can’t tell. The only thing I know is that I don’t want to say that a good post sucks just to make it quit showing up on my dash.
Implement some of the features that XKit uses. I would bet at least a quarter, if not more, of Tumblr users use XKit to make using Tumblr less painful. That shouldn’t be the case. Tumblr should have these functionality options available in dashboard settings.
A very hot take here that many might disagree with: Make notes viewable more like mobile has them. As it is, it’s hard to tell which ones I’ve seen on desktop. It can be tricky on mobile too, honestly, but it’s easier than on desktop. I would also heavily suggest making the unseen notifications darker so that they stand out and making a button to indicate that you’ve seen them.
Keep the dash, messages, notes, and profile as separate processes similar to how mobile has it. The trek all the way down the damn dashboard is a long one. I want to be able to see notes and messages in full size without losing my dash progress. When I switch back I want to be right where I was. I understand if this one isn’t possible or practical. It was just something I like about mobile over desktop but I’m aware that they’re two different beasts with different capabilities.
As far as the aforementioned members features, I do have some ideas, but I can’t guarantee they’re the best the user base has to offer. I’m sure others could think of better. Anyway, some things I’ve thought of are groups/clubs, digital currency, and separate dashboards. So, as it stands, You can have multiple blogs on one account. People can follow them separately. That’s fantastic. What would also be nice though, is being allowed to make separate dashboards. This would probably take up another chunk of server space, so I understand if it isn’t feasible right now, but I would jot it down. The ability to separate shitposts, aesthetic imagery, fandom content, and NSFW would be amazing. If you follow a huge number of blogs, like me, you could even make a friends dash so that you don’t miss your friends’ posts. It would just be a matter of allowing people to add and name their new dashboards. Then, when they go to follow people, it prompts them to choose what dash their content goes to. You could even simplify it by making the follow button default to the main dash, but adding a little dropdown arrow beside it. You could then choose which dash to add them to from a list. Below are some bad paint-drawn concept drawings.
Anyway, I hope this has all been helpful in some way. I’m fairly certain that WordPress will never actually read this, but it was cathartic to write and I hope it will be cathartic for someone else to read.
Sincerely, birb-ghost

"Beato" here (damn my naming choice, I usually go by Dschehuti, Beato is just my Little Kyubey, but you already made a tag for these convos XD). Good luck with Higurashi then. I already made an account (this time it IS Dschehuti), but the game so far had been only aiding in my Japanese learning endeavor by making me try to read maintainance notices. What is going on for it to have this messy a start? And the black cat Madoka saved guided Homura to Madoka's corpse? What?! Which adaptation? Manga?
Haha, xkit exists for a reason!  Your asks have now been re-tagged~
And yeah, Higurashi Mei got off to a really rough start.  Their twitter account posted something about a third party attack being the cause, which if it's true, oof.  I agree with the twitter commentators, it was clearly Oyashiro-sama's curse.  XD
The black cat guiding Homura is from the drama CDs!  The wiki article on her explains the story of the CD pretty well.
Edit: Also, I was wrong and @leafbladie‘s note is entirely correct - Amy leads Homura to the Walpurgisnacht battle, and Madoka was still alive when she got there.
(Honestly, taking Homura there just in time to watch Madoka have a brief moment of hope and then die seems even more Bernkastel-like...)
(cont)... Still "Beato". Keep in mind in regards to my criticism about Higurashi Mei that I'm basing this on the premise alone as I can't read it yet. In my mind a mobage would only work if they had placed it in the Outbreak timeline as a zombie apocalypse or, if they went the wacky route, by having the whole story be an elaborate club activity. Like the South Park games, that would even justify the silly costumes! But... actual demon mobs? Hanyuus colleagues wrecking stuff? Nooo... that's just stupid...
Having actually attempted to read some of Mei now, I'd actually say you got pretty close!  I still don't understand where the Tsukuyomi monsters come from, but using silly costumes to fight them is indeed a club activity in this weirdo world!
Overall, I'm actually somewhat intrigued by the game's writing?  The "transform and fight monsters" premise is still by far the weakest part, but the actual story doesn't really focus on it that strongly.
Instead, the first three chapters read more like a remix of Onikakushi (and some Watanagashi) but with Kazuho and Miyuki replacing Keiichi in joining the club and slowly learning about the curse incidents from Tomitake and Takano (and a new writer lady called Midori?  Not sure if she's a new character or not).  Kazuho's whole "girl from the future who was too young at the time goes back to the past to learn the cause of the tragedy that killed her family and ruined her life" also gives me really strong Ange vibes.
And since I really don't like Keiichi and I quite like Ange, I find the result to arguably be an improvement?  Much less perving on the club members, much more Kazuho reconnecting with a past and place she idealized but barely remembers any more.
The game also has a pretty decent and self-aware sense of humor, from what little I can understand?  Like, there's a scene in Chapter 2 where the girls call Tamurahime on a pay phone, which immediately devolves into Miyuki ragging on the goddess for making mortals do her dirty work.  And then realizing that hey, being able to literally call up a goddess to complain whenever you want is actually pretty convenient~!
At which point Tamurahime explains that the phone line won't always work because <insert time magic technobabble here>, quickly gives them their next objective, and hangs up on them.
Smooth.

Updates & Future Plans
Tumblr media
Happy (late) New Year! I’m finally coming off hiatus here and making a few changes to this blog, so keep reading if you'd like to know about those!
The biggest change is that this’ll become a Pokémon blog first and foremost! I held a poll the other month to help decide whether I should split Pokémon and personal / non-Pokémon content into separate blogs, and most people said yes. I've wanted to do that for a while anyway (both for better organization and because I suspect that most people are here for the Pokémon content in the first place), so from here on out almost all non-Pokémon related posts will be at my new sideblog, @goldenwingedstrawberry (kudos if you know what the URL is referencing)! It’s very empty at the moment, but the posts will pretty much be the same as the non-Pokémon stuff I’ve reblogged/posted here in the past, just all in one place rather than scattered between my many Pokémon posts. If you enjoyed that content, feel free to give it a follow!
Another change will be how in how I tag things: I’m going to start tagging posts related to the anime with the Japanese names of characters. I’ve wanted to do this for a while since those are the names I’m generally more familiar with when it comes to the anime (I usually watch it in Japanese, after all!), but was unsure how to go about it since I’m more familiar with English names for game characters + many Pokémon, and there’s also a lot of overlap between the two... but then I realized I can just tag some of those characters with both and call it a day? That’d also make it easier for me to just use XKit’s tag replacer to append tags when I wanna let my older tagged posts join the bilingual name party and call it a day. This change is really for myself more than anything, but I thought I’d mention it in case anyone gets confused over it. I also probably won’t be going as wild as I used to when it comes to tagging posts with a ton of characters - I’m just gonna keep it at who the content mainly focuses on!
As for what content you can expect in the near future...? Well, you can expect a lot of catch-up reblogs of posts about new anime episodes that I didn’t get to reblog while on hiatus, which will be tagged as #pkmn catchup for anyone to blacklist in case it feels too spammy (I’m gonna try my best not to spam-reblog that many posts at a time, but it might still be more activity than some would like)! I'll probably also share some GIFs / screencaps of my own, and once I’m done playing catch-up I’ll try to fill the queue again with the usual Pkmn content!
Not sure if anyone was wondering about this, but just in case: the reason I went on hiatus was partly to avoid leaked SwSh spoilers (I decided to go in blind to anything that was unrevealed, so I avoided a lot of social media - no regrets there tbh, since it was really fun getting to see so many new ‘mons/forms for the first time in game!), but also because I needed to focus more on personal life stuff! Due to the latter reason I probably still won’t be as consistently active here as I have been in the past, but I’ll try my best to keep filling the queue & posting when I can since I do enjoy it a lot!
One last note - I’ve mentioned it here before a few times, but in case anyone wasn’t aware, I’m also active on Twitter! Feel free to follow me there if you’d like to have more Pokémon + sakuga RTs among other things on your timeline.
If you read this far (or even just skimmed through), thank you - I hope you have a great day/night! 💛 💛 💛

Hello! I'm so sorry to be annoying! I love your tag replacer extension and have used it a number of times in the past with great success. However, today I've been trying to use it, and it does work - it rename's the tag. But when I search my blog /tagged/newtag none of the posts show up. When I search /tagged/oldtag all the posts are still there, with the new tag, but on the wrong page. I hope this makes sense. I'm not sure if it's a Tumblr issue or Xkit.
This is a Tumblr issue - all Tag Replacer does is replace tags on individual posts, the same way you can yourself.
It’s to be expected that changing tags (especially a lot of them) takes a little while to update your tagged pages, so you should see everything work as expected after a day or so. If waiting doesn’t work, the only thing left to do is to contact Tumblr support.

hello! im not sure if you've already answered a question like this or not, but i have been wanting to start a roleplay blog and i have looked at your blog for alot of help. so basically i was just wondering if you could give some adive on what my first post should be and how to introduce my blog and muses? thank you, & sorry to bother you x
it’s no problem!! we have some information here, in our faq! (though if you’re on mobile you might not have seen that; i just edited our theme to include the link in our mobile description, so that should help!
however, i do think it’s a bit lacking, so i’m going to add a bit more to it!
1. the first thing to do, is decide whether or not you want your roleplay blog to be “dash-only,” meaning that your blog can only be accessed in the app or from the dashboard, or not.
dash-only:
means you don’t have to worry about a theme.
if you block someone, they won’t be able to access your blog even at your url (it’ll just redirect them to tumblr.com/blog/[username], which they won’t be able to access if you’ve blocked them)
means that your blog information will need to be in a post, rather than a page on your theme.
theme:
having to work out a theme
means navigation is neater and you can add information on the sidebar
pages are not always accessible on mobile
blocked users can access your blog, even if they can’t necessarily interact with it past that.
if you want to turn on dash only, go to http://tumblr.com/settings/blog/[username] and flip this switch:
Tumblr media
this can also be done on mobile by going to blog settings.
2. next, you should create a rules page! this is generally the thing that most people look for first, so it’s very important. (if you don’t have one, people are much less likely to interact with you.) edit: here’s a link to our post about what to include in a rules page!
3. then, an about page! basically, introducing your muse to people that might not know them. i’ll be posting a template for this that you can use!
4. then, go to your blog and find the permalink (the direct url) to the about/rules pages or posts, and link them in your description. (go to your blog settings again, click edit appearance, and then copy paste this in, replacing the bolded parts with your personal example.) this will make it accessible to mobile users
[permalink of rules page]”>rules. [permalink of about page]”>about.
5. then, a promo! there are many versions of this, but there are generally two basic formats, iconified & large image + description.
iconified ones usually have a set of icons in a row, showing examples of what your character looks like and your style, a brief description of your character (think of it as creating an ad for your character! they don’t have to be serious, just interesting) and ending with a request to like or reblog to spread it around.
large image + description ones will generally have one big picture (often art, edited. for this, it is important to source the artist or template (if using a psd) used! then people will often have a quote underneath. this one was a joke promo, but often it links to your mobile about/rules. and then a small notice, usually something like saying what character you play, and what fandom they’re in.
IMPORTANT NOTE: you won’t show up in people’s notifications or in the tags until a couple days(?) after you make your blog, so it’s good to post your tag dumps before this, so tumblr registers you as a real user, and then wait a couple of days to post your promo/follow people back.
general tags people use for tagging their promos will be:
the type of media it comes from, ex: manga rp, animanga rp, video game rp, anime rp, video game rp, etc.
how selective you are: selective rp, if applicable
the specific media your character(s) come from, ex: one piece rp, op rp, one piece roleplay, op roleplay
note that often the tags will be condensed in those 4 ways, especially for long-winded fandom names, such as boku no hero academia, which is often tagged as:
#bnha rp, (an abbreviation of the japanese romanized name)
#mha rp, (an abbreviation of the english name)
#my hero academia rp
#boku no hero academia rp
and then all of those above versions but ‘roleplay’ instead of ‘rp.’
or, if your character doesn’t exist in a fandom, #fandomless rp
another note about this: only the first 5 tags you use on your promo will show up in the tags themselves (ex: tumblr.com/tagged/bnha-rp), but the tags after that will show, often, if searched (ex: tumblr.com/search/bnha-rp) so put your most applicable tags/most popular first!!
6. download xkit. here’s the link for the extension, if you’re using chrome, or here, if you’re using firefox, or their blog is here. this is not helpful if you plan to rp solely on mobile. i’ll make a follow-up post to this with explanations of how it’s relevant to rp soon, since this post is already pretty long.
7. follow some blogs! this should be done when you are not on mobile. go into the tags (mentioned in #5), click on their blogs before following, read their rules, and if you agree to them, then follow. not reading rules is.. really bad manners and generally shows disinterest.
8. track your tag. go to http://tumblr.com/tagged/[your url], and click the ‘follow’ button near the search bar. this will let you know when you’ve been tagged in posts. (not when you’ve been @’d, but when your url has been put in the tags. this is often used when people are posting a starter call they made fro you, etc.)
9. make an open starter! this is where you make a sample writing post, without a clear partner. the idea of this is to make it so that multiple mutuals can jump on this to start interaction, and also get a feel for your writing style!
10. once you’ve gotten some followers, post a starter call! make sure to specify if there’s a cap (a limit to the amount you will do), or if it’s mutuals only or not! you can also put these in the rp tags (see number 5).
11. reblog some roleplay memes! make sure your ask is open first, though! (go to tumblr.com/settings/blog/[your url] and click the switch for asks to be enabled.
Tumblr media
as to how to find roleplay memes, there are tags that are frequently used, as well as blogs specifically for making them.
here are links to some tags:
rp memes  ( tagged. search. )
roleplay memes  ( tagged. search. )
rp sentence starters  ( tagged. search. )
rp lyric memes  ( tagged. search. )
lyric starters  ( tagged. search. )
sentence starters  ( tagged. search. )
and some rp meme blogs:
shittyrpmemes (ok this is my blog but it’s good so MSDKGDJ)
rp-memes
rp-memes-atyourservice
acerph
crowslyrics
phantomemes
solitudeprompts
12. once you think up some tags, post a tag dump! here are some suggestions for types of posts to tag in a tag dump:
starter calls
asks / asks you’ve answered
ooc (out of character) posts
in character posts
different verses (if applicable) to your character, for during threads
rp memes
visage/appearance (posts you’ve reblogged that show your muse’s appearance)
hope this helps, and if you want any clarification, don’t hesitate to ask! that’s what we’re here for! c:

Just curious, do you and Kelly have a special tag like you and Ashley do? Don't get me wrong, no one can replace Ashley(I fucking love her); but I think you and Kelly should have one. I'm not the greatest at thinking up names or else I would give it try. P.S. I'm sorry someone stole yours and Kelly's The Chosen. Also, I don't think you two are bullies. At all.
umm... we don’t really have a hashtag, no. we couldn’t come up with a good one. Kelly uses “big sis beka” i think, and i usually do “kellyneedsahashtag” but we don’t really have a ship name. lol. Bekelly? Kebeka? Idk. I got nothing.
also it’s like 50/50 that i remember to tag shit anymore. if it’s not staring at me in the face “HEY PUT A HASHTAG” i prob won’t. like this- i don’t have xkit at work so this isn’t getting tagged. bc I dont care. lol
prob should come up with a tag... idk.... hmm. Idk. ashley came up with beksley. she’s just far more clever with the names. hey look at me rambling in this answer. i wonder how long i can do this for.
That’s really dumb because I could literally just sit here and type forever.like, what’s stopping me? i mean, I am at work and I’ve been doing these gdamn invoices since monday and it should have taken me like 20 mins but i’ve managed to stretch it out this long so like why rush? also i need to do the january recs and taxes but honestly, i just can’t stare at tiny numbers right now. do you have any idea how hard it is to do accounting work when you can barely see? like... not easy. also i’m not really in the mood. but i do have to do it before the 10th. that sucks. what’s today? ok, i have a few days. i’ll do it friday probably. Fridays are good days because I treat myself to dunkin donuts every Friday and get a giant freakin iced caramel latte and a choc chip muffin and just munch all day. that’s basically all i eat. which sounds bad, but compared to not eating anything? like, go for the muffin. how am i so fat if i dont’ fucking eat anymore? that’s fun.
there are so many red squiggle lines staring at me right now. hey! you not spelling good! you’re a fucking writer! nah, sorry. don’t care. you know what really annoys me? every time I send an email, the thing says “are you sure? you spelled this wrong-” and it’s my fucking name. Like, thanks dude, I know how to spell my name. it’s been spelled like for 35 years. Holy shit imma be 35 this year. that’s crazy pants. Like, wow. that’s a milestone age, dude. i’m fucking old as shit. dude, i freakin- jokingly told bill i wanted a birthdya party this year. a bowling birthday party and i think he’s gonna actually do it. like a kid’s bday, but adults only. and i was like “that’s fine and all, but if no kids are coming, we should do it like... laser bowling with booze” who knows. prob not gonna happen anyway. i don’t really want a party. that means people and talking and gross.
jesus fuck, how many times do i have to tell pandora I don’t like dave matthews?? come on man, i thought i trained you better than this. yeah, i SHOULD like dave matthews, but I don’t ok? get off my back about it and keep him off my gdamn playlists. shit, man. he’s ugh. idky i don’t like him i just dont. stop.
are we done yet? i don’t even know how this started anymore. here’s a gif

I’ve got a bone to pick with Queue...
How to use Tumblr’s Queue feature & Schedule Posts for fun and profit
Sorry in advance that I only have access to the web version of tumblr, and not the app, your mileage may vary!  Schedule, arguably the most important bit, is discussed at the end, but the basic how-to’s of the Queue are here for those that need it.
Social media is a powerful tool in which one can market their wares and services.   Tumblr is just one of the many platforms available in this, the year of our lord 2019.  Anyone can find their audience with persistence, a little knowledge of how tagging works and luck. But once you have your audience, what can you do? Maintaining an active population of followers is one of several contributors to your Blog’s overall health and growth. How does one do that? By posting! Consistently.
“But Scum,” you say, “I am but a mortal being.  I need to eat and need to sleep! I cannot dedicate my entire day and night to this!”
That’s absolutely alright, tiny speck! People don’t expect that.  Unless you’ve specifically stated that your blog is for original content only (Like, say, hosting a webcomic or archiving your fanfiction,) reblogging other things relevant to your theme, #aesthetic or interests will do just fine.  It may be filler, but it both keeps your blog active, and helps your followers get to know you! Alternatively, it just gives them more of what they came for, which is just as good!
“But Scum,” you cry, “Surely there is no way my blog can be active without me!”
That’s where you’re wrong little flesh-bag! Tumblr, made by the crude, imperfect hands of mankind does have a feature to hide your ephemeral nature.  It is called the Queue.
I can do it and Queue can too!
The Queue is essentially a backlog of posts that Tumblr will periodically publish to your blog, until the queue is empty.   You can adjust your settings to automatically publish 1 to 50 posts a day, and can queue up to 300 posts! You can also change the time frame when the queue will publish these posts, in relation to your set time-zone.
It’s easy as can be to set it up.
First, let’s look at how you can add a post to your queue:
Tumblr media
By pressing the arrow next to “Reblog” (as well as “Post” when you are making your own) you are given a menu of additional options! Add to queue does exactly what it says.  “Reblog” will be replaced with “Queue” and the post will be added to the list to be periodically published.   Sadly, without the xkit extension you can’t queue answers to asks.
Note: The original poster will not be notified of you adding something to your queue OR your drafts, and will only receive a notification when the post is actually re-blogged at that later time.
Now that your queue has something in it, you should have the Queue page available to you.
Tumblr media
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE DRAFTS BEHIND THE CURTAIN
Within the Queue you can access all the posts you’ve set to reblog at a later time, and play with the order in which your posts appear. By default, they will be posted in the order they were queued, and will show you exactly when a post will be published within the parameters you’ve set.
Tumblr media
When a post is in your queue, you’re given two options to organize them. Either you can force a post to the front of your queue with Move to Top, so it will be published next, or you can drag and drop them in place by clicking and dragging with Sort.
Now, likely as not you’ll want to tweak the default frequency of posts, and time frame of this automated activity, so let’s look at how we do that.  From within the queue itself, the options are presented directly above your collected posts.
Tumblr media
However, to ensure your timezone is accurate you’ll be thrown into your blog settings, where you can also access the queue frequency and time frame of your simulated activity.  Handy if you don’t have any items in your queue already!
Tumblr media
Whatever works for Queue
As for how much and how often? Now we’re dipping into social media/marketing theory, which people absolutely go to school for. I’m just a schmuck on the internet and I personally don’t use my queue as often as I should, while one of my friends has a queue several hundred posts long. So long in fact that I will get reblog notifications months after the fact.  It all comes down to personal preference.
Depending on how long you want to spend gathering relevant posts you may only want the queue to churn out a few posts a day.  A lower frequency means your queue lasts longer, and a shorter time frame will make those few posts relatively rapid-fire regardless.  Experiment and find something that feels right for you!
“But Scum,” you gasp, “That’s all very well and good but I have very important posts I need up at a specific time and a specific date! This queue can’t do that.”
Buckle up, little buddy, that’s what Schedule is for!
I can’t think of a pun for Schedule
This comparatively tiny section is the entire reason I wanted to write this guide, as Schedule allows you to set the precise time and date to post or reblog content.  Tumblr is an american based website and so can accept true dates in the format of mm/dd/yy (not dd/mm/yy,) though Tumblr does understand 24 hour time.  It also has enough intelligence to work with relevant time, and can understand things like Next Tuesday, Today or Tomorrow just as easily.
Tumblr media
Each Scheduled post will appear in your queue with the other reserved posts, but be highlighted by the specific time and date that you’ve set.   The above example will be published Jan 4th 6pm according to my time zone of US/Central.
Schedule is truly your most powerful tool for self promotion, because it can better guarantee your post gets seen.  Likewise, it will allow you to set up reblogs for opposing time zones with minimal hassle. There are peak hours of activity on tumblr and scheduling your posts to publish in that time frame will make a noticeable difference. This is where research will benefit you best, but for my fellow artists, writers and other self promoting persons, most of the important information is condensed in this post by UnionMetrics.
But for those that don’t want to open another window?  Sunday night, 4pm-10pm EDT is the peak of the entire website’s week.  Nights in North America are always the busiest time, but do not shirk your local hours in favor of them, simply use the Schedule to set and forget a promotional reblog.
Hopefully these two things combined will help you find success in this blue hell.
