Hyper-analyzing the Thunderbolts* trailer:

I think the reason we see "Bucky" with two different hairstyles, and one looking. Well. Off. Is because one of them isn't Bucky Barnes and is actually Jack Monroe/Scourge/The Third Bucky from the 90s Thunderbolts comics.

Very very quick summary:

Jack Monroe is the second replacement Bucky who went a little crazy. He looks *identical* to Bucky Barnes. In the 90s Thunderbolts comics, he was controlled by nanites to be the supervillain Scourge, with access to an image inducer to make him look like anyone he wanted. He ran assassination hits on the Thunderbolts until he finally was broken out of his conditioning and then went off to wander around alone until he was killed by the Winter Soldier in the 2000s.

So. To recap:

-In the trailer, we see Bucky acting seemingly out of character and even looking slightly Off

-Jack Monroe is a Bucky replacement who looks just like him

-In the Thunderbolts comics, he is the villain Scourge, who has an image inducer and tries to kill the Thunderbolts (like we see Bucky do in the trailer)

Guys. I think we're gonna get Jack Monroe in the MCU.

To be clear. This is not something I *want*. I think the MCU would absolutely butcher Jack's character and completely erase his queerness. But. I do think this is a highly likely scenario we're seeing. I hope I'm wrong. However.....

Plot: Bucky tells Y/N how he met Alpine. Pairing: BestFriends!Bucky Barnes x Female!Reader (but maybe there's something more there... 👀 it's me, of course there is) Warnings: A few mentions of Bucky's past as The Winter Soldier, and how we was used and controlled without his consent. Also includes mentions of how Bucky hates himself for what he did, and the nightmares he has. But as always, if I miss any triggers, please let me know! Notes: Hey, I finally finished a WIP, hahaha. And it's another episode of "this was supposed to be a drabble but it's over 1k words."

Not beta'd, so any mistakes are my own.

“Morning.” Y/N smiles, walking into the kitchen at Avengers HQ. The room is mostly empty, aside from Bucky. He lounges on the couch, scrolling through his phone and laughing to himself about something on the screen. When Y/N sits beside him, he murmurs a greeting before immediately going back to laughing.

“What’s so funny?”

“Oh, it’s just Alpine.” Bucky replies. “Look, I got him a new toy mouse a few days ago, and he’s already destroyed it.” He grins, holding out his phone to show her the picture. Y/N leans in, laughing when she sees the picture, especially the satisfied look on Alpine’s face. It’s nice, seeing Bucky laughing like this, sounding so happy. Although, it is a little weird.

Because Bucky looks so intimidating usually, the master of a death glare. And yet here he is, making cute cooing noises and laughing over pictures of his cat like a completely different person from what history and the news will tell you. But she likes this version of Bucky a lot.

Well, she likes everything to do with Bucky Barnes a lot. Like the way he always makes her heart skip a beat, or how she always has a lovesick smile on her face whenever she’s around him. She just can’t bring herself to tell him that though.

“If you don’t mind me asking…” Y/N asks, her brow raised. “How did you find Alpine?” Bucky’s own brows furrow.

“You’re asking that like it’s a weird question.”

“I just mean, knowing you, I thought you found him on a mission somewhere and rescued him from an evil base, from some supervillain like in James Bond.” She chuckles. “Screw damsels in distress, you rescue cats in distress!” She grins.

“What is it you actually think I do?” Bucky raises a brow, yet can’t stop another grin from tugging at the corner of his mouth. A sight that makes Y/N’s smile grow just that little wider. God, she’s got it bad.

“You know, superhero stuff.” Y/N shrugs, and Bucky chuckles.

“Well, I may be a hero, but I found Alpine in a perfectly normal way.…”

One year ago….

The room is filled with noise, and Bucky awkwardly fiddles with his gloves. He really should take them off at some point. New year, new him and all that. And, of course, being pardoned helps as well. That one might take a little longer, though. This task is small, and manageable. Although, when you have spent your entire life being used as a weapon and fighting space monsters on the regular, everything seems minor in comparison.

Right now though, it feels huge, like when they first faced down Thanos for the first time. Or when he came back to earth after being gone for five years and became a man out of time all over again. 

“Hello sir, how can I help you?” The voice of a staff member makes him jump slightly. He’s still not used to this, to being noticed and to being someone, to being Bucky Barnes, rather than a weapon used and controlled without his consent. Rather than The Winter Soldier.

To be honest, he’s not sure if he’ll ever be used to it. 

“Hi. I was thinking of getting a pet. I was thinking about a cat, but I’m open to anything, really.” Of course Bucky doesn’t tell him it’s because he’s so alone, and thinks he might lose his mind again if he’s alone any longer. The nights get so lonely sometimes, especially with as many nightmares that he has. Being alone with his thoughts, forced to confront what he did for so long every night, is his own personal hell. A punishment he wouldn’t wish on anyone. Maybe being responsible for another life, rather than taking it away, will be good for him.

That is, if he doesn’t fuck this up, too.

“Of course, sir.” The man smiles, beckoning for Bucky to follow, which he does. “We have plenty of cats available, from kittens to seniors. Do you have any specific breed in mind? Any age or gender?” 

All the questions make Bucky furrow his brows together. Choosing a cat seems to be harder than he thought. Obviously, he wasn’t expecting to just walk in and for someone to just hand him a cat, but still. “Not really.” The staff member nods, smiling.

“That’s totally fine. You’re not the first who just wants to walk around. I’ll show you what we have, and we can go from there.”

Bucky looks at every variety of cat and kitten at the shelter. They’re all adorable, but none of them feel right, like his cat. Suddenly, he sees a little white ball of fluff curled up against the corner of a cage. They don’t even move when Bucky approaches. “Who’s this?” He asks.

“That’s Alpine.” Alpine looks up, looking for whoever came to see him. His blue eyes stare at Bucky for a moment, and he cocks his head to the left slightly before burying his face back into his fur. “Sorry, he’s really shy. We’re not sure if he likes people that much.” Bucky chuckles. Well, at least he sounds like him. Bucky doesn't like people that much either. Maybe this’ll be a good match after all. “Do you want to see some more cats?” The staff member asks, but Bucky keeps staring at Alpine, watching as his little head pops up again, checking to see if the stranger outside his cage has gone. 

“Hey there, buddy.” He whispers, smiling. He expects him to curl away from him again, but to his surprise, he takes a few steps forward towards him, tentatively sniffing the air, then Bucky’s gloved hand. Bucky chuckles, murmuring an “aww.” to himself as Alpine brushes his head against his fingers, nuzzling into them and purring. 

“Wow! He rarely does this. You must be special.” Yet the man’s voice fades out as Bucky and Alpine make eye contact. At Christmas time, Sam and his nephews showed him that movie The Grinch, where his heart grows three sizes after he discovers the true meaning of Christmas. Originally, Bucky wrote that off as cheesy nonsense, but now he feels it happening for real as he looks at this tiny little cat. He smiles. He’s perfect.

“I’ll take him.”

“Brought him home about a week later, and the rest is history.” Bucky smiles.

“Oh. My. God.” Y/N gasps. “That’s so cute. Turns out you’re just a big softie deep down, huh, Buck?” She chuckles. Bucky flushes pink, and Y/N continues to grin. 

“Don’t say a word.” Bucky hisses, but Y/N keeps laughing and smiling. And despite how much he wants to keep it cool, and act like it’s not affecting him, Bucky can’t help but laugh. Because she’s right. Sometimes (more often than he’d like to admit) Bucky hangs onto his Winter Soldier persona, using it like a mask to hide behind. After all, it’s better than having to meet new people all the time, and to actually make relationships with people. People who could disappoint him, or leave him when things got too hard. Nobody would ever go near him if they thought he was still like that, still an asshole who would kill you if you looked the wrong way at him.

But with Y/N… he doesn’t want to hide himself anymore. She makes him the happiest he’s ever been in a long time, and brings out the best parts of him, the parts he thought were gone forever. Her laughter rings through the air, the sound the sweetest melody he’s ever heard, and Bucky just can’t stop smiling. Y/N likes him for who he is, and despite how much he hates himself… Bucky loves the way she makes him feel. 

Well… he loves Y/N more than anything in the world. But she does make him feel pretty damn great.

“You know, Alpine sounds amazing. Maybe I’ll meet him one day.” She smiles. The thought makes Bucky’s heart grow even more, this time so big it could explode out of his chest. His two favourite people, the people he loves most in the world, meeting each other.

“Yeah.” He chuckles, smiling softly. “Maybe one day.”

summary: Mosaic Haiku is a project very dear to my heart, pairing haiku with watercolors and drawings celebrating the lifetime of love that proved the key to saving all magic, shared by Eliot and Quentin at the Mosaic in The Magicians 3x05, A Life in the Day. I've added an all-new Ch. 14 (photos with the haiku on Tumblr; art to be added to the haiku on AO3 later); two new watercolor paintings for Ch. 4; and I found/reinstated some version of the drawings for Ch. 1-3 (I hadn't yet started scanning the drawings separately for those, so quality varies). Going forward, the drawings will remain visible instead of simply being replaced by the watercolor versions. So far, the art is fully complete for Ch. 1-3 and in-progress for Ch. 4 & 6. This month I'm especially pleased with the two paintings of Quentin and Eliot in their golden years (see one of the Tumblr links and the Instagram link).

The Bucky Barnes Bingo party demanded a sacrifice. Here is my fill for the party prompts “autumn,” “marriage,” and “farm.”

Ficlet is G-rated Stucky and sappy af. It ignores the MCU timeline so you should too.

1944:

“You’d move back to Indiana?” Steve was whispering from behind a tree in the frozen, Austrian midwinter.

Bucky fingered the gun at his side.

“It was peaceful there,” he finally whispered back. “No one shootin’ at you. And no one in your business.”

He nodded back toward the sleeping camp of Commandoes not far behind them, but it was too dark to see much of anything.

Steve shook his head.

“I don’t know that I could ever leave New York.”

2016:

“I don’t know what you expected I was doing with my time. All I know how to do is fight.” Steve unzipped the top of his suit. “Don’t supposed they’d let me stop now.”

Bucky looked up from the locker room bench and cocked his head to the side.

“Stop asking for permission.”

Steve paused his motions.

“Stop asking. Just tell ‘em you have more to do with your life than being their weapon.”

Steve looked at Bucky with a sorrow that Bucky hated so he gave Steve a dismissive wave of his hand and stood up from where he had been waiting.

“I’m not gonna do this for them. Been doin’ this long enough. I’m gonna go back home and become a farmer or somethin’.”

2019:

Bucky looked at Steve knelt down on one knee.

“What are you doing? Get up.”

Steve did not get up.

“I retired like you wanted. This is the next step. Bucky Barnes-“

Bucky bent down to threaten Steve.

“I’m buying a farm and living in Indiana. This is never gonna work.”

He snatched the ring from Steve’s hand and put it on his own finger with a scowl that Steve didn’t believe for a second.

Steve stood back upright and leaned in close to Bucky.

“I’ll move to a farm with you. And learn to grow grain or carrots or whatever your heart desires.”

Bucky didn’t even hide that he was admiring the ring on his hand.

“And learn to drive a tractor,” he mumbled.

“How else would I do my part on the farm?”

Bucky backed up a step and looked at Steve.

“And we throw a big fall festival every year for the community to come pick out pumpkins from our pumpkin patch.”

A smile spread across Steve’s face as he stepped closer again.

“Sounds delightful. Is Alpine going to be our barn cat?”

“Yes, and I’m buying goats. And chickens. We are going to be a proper farm. You’re gonna have to collect eggs in the morning. That’s the job of the first person awake.”

“Only if you’re going to make breakfast for this hard working farmer to get a healthy start every day.”

Bucky tilted his head and his voice lost the threatening edge he’d been using needlessly.

“Are you serious? Are you really going to start a farm with me?”

Steve nodded and leaned in till his forehead touched Bucky’s.

“Marry me this fall. And we will move anywhere or do anything you want. And we won’t have to fight supervillains. We will only have to fight weeds in our garden. And we won’t have to fear aliens and monsters. Just things like whether or not we will have enough rainfall this year or whether or not the apples will get the right nutrients to thrive.”

“If our scarecrow is scary enough to frighten the birds without scaring the children.”

Steve laughed softly.

“And now there’s children.”

Bucky shrugged.

“It takes a lot to run a farm.”

Steve reached and took both of Bucky’s hands in his own before leaning in and kissing him.

Bucky kissed back, pulling back only to smile a please little smile to himself.

“And we can go back to the city to spend the holidays with our friends,” he told Steve, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Steve shrugged.

“I bet our friends would enjoy some time away from the city. And we are going to have a great place for them to visit.”

Bucky reached and took Steve’s hand.

“Are you just doing all this for me?”

Steve squeezed his hand.

“You deserve it. But I’m doing it for both of us. Besides, I’ve been told on a farm that no one shoots at you and no one is in your business. Which is good because from now all my business is doing whatever it takes to make sure you and me get the life we should have always had. The peaceful one.”

Bucky shook his head and was surprised he was the first to admit it.

“Yeah, yeah. I love you too.”

In the midst of a violent alien regime, separated by seemingly insurmountable boundaries, Steve and Tony have nothing to keep themselves going but each other.

Note: This was 19hours of FANTASTIC story--highly recommend it if you’ve got a long drive or time off. 

One-Man Army by Captain_Panda

Takes place immediately after the Chitauri attack in Avengers 1.

Steve is running himself into the ground. Tony notices.

Then Steve gets knocked down hard. And Tony intervenes.

Note: I’ve rec’ed this before. It’s delightfully long and nearly perfect--there’s very little downtime in the way of weakness with the pacing and writing, which is a feat in and of itself at over 600k. 

America Isn't Chicken by Amuly 

After a Civil War, death, rebirth, a takeover by Osborn, brain deletion, and the fall of Asgard, Steve and Tony might just be starting to get back on solid ground with one another. Things aren't perfect, not yet, but they can be in the same room as each other without resorting to violence, and they've even managed to share a smile or two.

Seems like the perfect time, then, for Tony to try and fuck it all up with a stupid game of gay chicken.

Meanwhile, as if he didn't have enough to worry about, Tony realizes some kind of supervillainous trouble is brewing when increasingly advanced armors start popping up all over Manhattan, looking strangely reminiscent of his tech. On the other side of the world, Steve gets news that Zola is on the move in Russia, with some sort of nefarious plan at work.

Which will ruin them first? Will it be this unknown armored villain who is after Tony's tech? Or will it be Zola unleashing his mysterious plan on the world? Or will Steve and Tony prove to be their own worst enemies, destroying the tentative truce they managed to forge with their own stubbornness?

Note: Just really delightful 616 fic. It’s a comfort read, tbh.

But when tragedy strikes, Steve is inspired by Dr. Erskine to go seek out the notorious slumlord/black market trader Tony Stark. Rumor has it that Tony used to be a member of New Versailles, but left to make his fortune off the backs of the working man... or was he kicked out? Although they don't hit it off at first, Steve and Tony must work together.

They have some help. The Three Fates are women who control information. Steve's friends from his old life are good people on the fringes of society because of their prosthetic enhancements. And there's Tony's network of resources and connections, not to mention his brilliant engineering mind that helped him build his empire.

But when Steve and Tony finally manage to put their differences aside and rise up against New Versailles... not everything is as simple as it seemed.

Craving a realistic depiction of a romantic relationship featuring PTSD, mental health issues, and characters who discuss their problems? This might be for you. No magic fixes here but a happy ending is guaranteed!

Note: I love this fic because it’s so realistic--the way Steve protects Peter from his new relationship is the most realistic depiction of good parenting I’ve ever seen in fic, and I ADORE it. Tony’s patience and hurt and sweetness is everything to me. 

A Higher Form of War by sabrecmc 

Tony is a King with a surprising number of people out to kill him. Steve and the rest of the Avengers are fighting for Pierce's rebellion and end up with Tony as their prisoner. Oops.

Basically one of those bodice-ripping romance novels I don't read (ahem) but with far more gay.

You can’t remember when you got here. You don’t even know what day it is. All you know is that for the past however many days, weeks maybe, they have been coming into your room and injecting you with stuff you knew shouldn’t be in your body.

First it was bright green which only managed to get you a rash. Then it was blood red which again only gave you a rash, that time worse than the last. Then it was neon yellow which did absolutely nothing except make you really tired. After that it was kind of a blur. You’re suspecting they’re going to try the whole damn rainbow.

You know why they took you too. You are the daughter of some very influential and important people. Hell, your dad is Iron Man. Who wouldn’t want to kidnap you? But usually people kidnap rich people’s kids when they’re young, not when they’re your age, and when they do kidnap a rich person’s kid, they usually ask for ransom. You don’t think that has happened yet.

You can barely lift your head when the metal door creaks open. The same man walks in, you only know him as “the doctor”, but you have a fair amount of nicknames for him in your arsenal; none of them are that nice, though.

You’re so weak from all the injections that you’re surprised he’s still going. He’s probably trying to create a supervillain out of you as some ploy of revenge against your father. In his years on earth, Tony Stark has gained a lot of enemies. You wish you had been taken by some of his enemies that are actually good people like Hank or something.

At this point you can barely feel your arm, so when he inserts the needle, you can barely feel it. You don’t feel the liquid entering your veins anymore either. Really, it’s almost a blessing at this point.

When he finishes injecting you with the bright blue liquid, each of your muscles tenses up. Heart beating faster, you wonder if this is the one that finally kills you.

Tears form in your eyes as you begin to feel the first bout of pain you’ve felt in days or even weeks.

The feeling is so intense, you don’t even notice the door open again. You don’t notice the blood from the doctor getting shot In the head.

In your state of shock, you barely register your restraints being released and your body being carried out.

Tony clambers up behind Barnes, who has been the one to find you. Your left arm is marked with ugly purple and black bruises.

Bucky sets you down on a stretcher in the Quinjet and backs up so the doctor and nurse they brought along can do their job.

Bucky has tears in his eyes, and he can’t honestly remember the last time he’d cried.

Tony, on the other hand, was by your side in an instant. His hand holds yours and he mutters under his breath. He needs everything to be okay. He needs his baby to be okay.

“She’s not breathing! Stark back up!” one of the medical professionals yells. Tony freezes on the spot. His heart shatters hearing his baby isn’t breathing.

Bucky ends up having to drag him away from the scene as he starts yelling, “Breathe, damn you! Don’t do this to me! Please!”

Only once Tony is away from the situation, does Bucky let him go. Misplacing his anger, Tony shoves Barnes. “What the hell?”

“I should be asking you the same thing, Stark! You need to let the medical professionals do their fucking job!”

“You don’t understand, Barnes. Is that your child in there? Has your child been missing for the better half of a year? Has your child stopped breathing? Oh wait, you don’t fucking have a child.”

“I may not, but that does not mean I do not care for her.”

Stark scoffs and turns away, running his hands through his hair. “You don’t know what this has done to me… she is my child and you could never understand the pain of knowing she is out there and you’re helpless to do anything even though you’re a fucking superhero.

“Tell me what is the point of being a superhero if the ones you love aren’t safe? Huh? You wouldn’t know anything about that, though, would you?”

“Don’t tell me what I do and do not know,” Bucky mutters, “the person I love with all of my heart has been missing for the better half of a year and I had to spend that time going around as if nothing ever happened, okay?

“You got to be an asshole because your kid had been taken, but I had to carry on as if the love of my life hadn’t been ripped away from me before I even got to fucking tell them.”

“So don’t you dare tell me that I don’t fucking know what it’s like to be a superhero whilst the ones I love aren’t safe because I fucking love them and they weren’t safe and I was useless in finding them.”

Both men stare at each other, not uttering a single word after Bucky’s breakdown. They don’t exchange any more words thereafter.

When you wake up both of your parents are sitting next to you along with one of your best friends. That alone is practically a miracle given that your dad and your best friend are never in the same room.

Your dad calls out your name as soon as he sees you’re awake. Pepper, your step-mother that you consider your real mom, goes to get someone. Your best friend Bucky stays put in his seat, his hands twitching, aching to be near you.

“Hey, sweetheart, you’re okay. You’re safe now.” He’s crying. You know it’s serious when your dad is crying. How long had you been captured for?

You try to reach out for your dad but you still can’t feel your arm. Brows furrowed, you look down at the site of your injections to see it missing. Eyes blown wide, your heart starts beating faster. Tears form in your eyes as you panic. Where is your arm? What’s going on?

“Hey, it’s okay, it’s okay, just breathe for me, okay? Everything is going to be okay.”

“Dad, what… where… what happened,” you choke out.

“Your arm was really badly infected. The only thing they could do was amputate it. I’m so sorry, honey.”

“No, no, no, why?” you cried out. This isn’t fair.

Tony wrapped his arms around you,

and you cried into his shoulder. The doctor comes into your room not long after, and checks up on you. She makes sure everything is alright before leaving you.

“Stark?” Your heart beats out of your chest, having forgotten that Bucky has been in the room this whole time.

“Is it okay if I have a little time…”

Your father huffs, frowning deeply. “Fine, but just know I’m not happy about it.”

“I know,” Bucky dejectedly sighs. When your father is out of the room Bucky picks up the conversation. “So… I’d ask you how you’re doing, but I’m pretty sure you’ll punch me for it.”

You both chuckle. Bucky has never been one to be real sappy, and you like that. Especially now that everyone is going to be asking you that god forsaken question nonstop.

“I missed you…”

You smile. “I missed you too, Buckaroo.”

He shakes his head, “I even missed that stupid nickname.” You gasp, feigning shock.

“Don’t tell the others,” he warns, a small smile still on his handsome face.

“Your secret is safe with me.” You wink at him. You notice him shift uncomfortably as he frowns. “What’s wrong?”

Bucky opens his mouth to confess everything. To tell you how much he loves you. How much he cherishes every moment spent with you. He longs to tell you that you’re the only one he thinks about before going to bed and when he wakes up. He yearns to tell you how he needs you like he needs the very air he breathes.

Bucky’s past self would be kicking him if he could see him now.

He gets a text on his phone and ignores it. He has to tell you. Another ding from his phone and he wants to chuck it across the room. This moment is supposed to be perfect. Yet here he is standing like a bumbling fool with his phone going off like crazy. “Sorry,” he mumbles, taking out his damn phone.

Shock registers on his features when he reads “Stop staring at her like a gaping fish and just ask her already.” Bucky looks around the room with narrowed eyes.

“Buck?”

His heart stops hearing your small voice. How the hell is he supposed to ask you out when your father is watching his every move? Bucky take a deep breath and wipes a sweaty palm on his jeans.

“Iwaswonderingifyoumaybewantedtogooutwithmesometime!”

You blankly stare at him. In all the years that you’ve known Bucky, he has never acted like this before. What is going on with him?

“What was that?” You giggle a bit. He looks like he is going to be sick or something.

“I was… well I was just wondering if uh… if you maybe wanted…to go out with me sometime?”

“Is that why you’ve been so nervous?” You smile. He’s so adorable. “Of course I would, Buck!”

He breathes out in relief, shoulders realising their tension as if the weight of a thousand boulders have been released.

“And we already have something in common!”

Bucky furrows his brows. You smile at him and wiggle your stub of an arm.

A Valentine’s Day Soulmate (Wintershock)

Nothing said Happy Valentine’s Day like bleeding from a gunshot wound while escaping the lair of the goons who’d kidnapped her. Darcy cursed a blue streak as she hobble-ran away from the fallen body of yet another foe.

“Stupid bastards ruining my perfect Galentine’s plans!” she muttered, clutching the gun she’d swiped after her taser had been broken. It had died gloriously, however, rendering five attackers drooling messes before the sixth had used some common sense.

She thanked her stars she’d finally let Nat teach her how to safely use a gun, even though she hated them. Apparently, being a full-fledged astrophysicist and friend of Jane Foster made her a lucrative target for wanna be supervillains.

She missed Jane. She missed Nat. Oh, what she wouldn’t give to be back in Avengers Tower circa 2012.

Her ankle throbbed and she paused to rest as she emerged from a back alley into a familiar and much more public street. Glancing at the road signs to get her bearings, she looked back down at her leg and grimaced at the blood soaked makeshift tourniquet she’d applied. She wasn’t gonna make it much further like this and made a snap decision that the closest option was…… she tensed as a black SUV pulled up beside her and gripped the gun a little tighter, slinking away slowly. Unfortunately, her leg decided enough was enough and picked that moment to give our on her. She slumped on the sidewalk with a groan and scooted herself as far away from the vehicle as she could, stomach churning at the blood trail she was leaving behind. Darcy had never thought she’d be hoping to run into jack booted federal thugs, but at this point, she’d welcome them happily.

The driver’s door opened and Darcy held her breath, wishing she could make herself invisible.

“If you’ve come to disappear me,” she gasped out, “just know that I have a strict limit of one kidnapping per Valentine’s Day and I’ve already reached it.”

She felt for the gun again, but the leather clad man in aviators stopped and held up his own empty hands, kneeling a few feet away from her. He had a very nice jawline, she observed randomly. His lips had twitched a bit when she spoke to him and he took a few seconds to reply.

“Why would I want to kidnap my soulmate? I’ve only been waiting a hundred years.”

She gasped and tears of disbelief filled her eyes. She’d heard the voice before, but only on tv.

“B-Bucky Barnes?” Darcy exclaimed. “Oh, thank Thor. I really didn’t want to have to use this thing. I stole this off of those goons. You’re really cute, by the way.”

She dropped the gun at his feet and hissed in pain from the movement.

“Thanks,” Bucky replied amusedly as he examined and secured the weapon. “Let’s get you out of here before you’ve lost any more blood. My soulmate is not gonna die on my watch.”

He lifted her like she weighed nothing and deposited her gently in his vehicle.

“No false positives for those words,” Darcy chuckled, pulling up her sleeve to show Bucky the writing on her forearm. “Though, I did think the hundred years was a bit of hyperbole.” He snorted and grinned as he drove them away.

“Nope. Worth it, though,” he shot her a slightly bashful smile that made her heart do flutters. “When Sam sent me to investigate some suspicious activity in this neighborhood, I sure wasn’t expecting the missing scientist to turn up so fast.”

Darcy smiled. “I pride myself on my self-rescuing skills. It’s come in handy a few times.”

Bucky’s eyebrows rose.

“A few times?” he questioned.

“This is number……..eight,” she announced after some mental calculations.

Bucky sighed.

“I’m in for a few more gray hairs, aren’t I?”

She nodded smugly. .

“Yup. Happy Valentine’s Day, Bucky.”

‘And now this guy? And what’s with the stupid costume?’

It was supposed to be a day off. But there's a supervillain in Delacroix, the press have descended and Sarah's wearing her short shorts. There's no way this ends well, right?

Formal OC Introductions - Kate Simons/ The Phantom (fc Tori Anderson)

As most of my OCs on my Masterlists were added after the initial post, I'm going to be posting about the ones you might not've seen for the next few weeks!

By day, Kate Simons is a waitress in a New York café and a volunteer at the local homeless shelter and soup kitchen, often reaching out to the young children and teenagers and being known for helping the latter to safety, including members of her own family. By night, Kate prowls the rooftops and is known to many as 'The Phantom' for the way she suddenly appears out of nowhere to save someone's life before slipping back into the shadows. A mutant and a graduate of Xavier's school, she rarely uses her powers as a vigilante, instead employing her martial arts skills to rescue people, especially young and frightened mutants - it draws less attention and means she doesn't end up solely relying on them. And it's not always easy balancing her duties - she only has non-mutant one friend who knows the truth and another who she knows suspects but who hasn't asked and who she's unwilling to drag into danger - and things are getting harder due to the rapidly changing world, with superheroes and supervillains and lately the apparent alien-human hybrids meaning that mutants are also getting more attention. Six months after the data dump she ends up helping Bucky Barnes, who should be dead but isn't, for some reason, and she's reluctant to get too involved in that mess - she has people who depend on her and she's not going to risk the teenagers and other mutants getting caught in the crosshairs. But nonetheless Kate is still a hero and still willing to risk her life for others - and even though she doesn't always go outright looking for trouble, she's about to find out that sometimes, trouble will come looking for her...
