Deep in the depresh today, and drawing/painting is the only thing that’s making me feel better. So here, have this thing I started back when the Continental came out. Might be a part 2 if this spiral continues.

I feel something that fandom needs to understand is that it is very common for creators to claim a queer relationship is familiar when it gains popularity
Like for every queer ship out there, there's always going be the head honcho on the crew saying "um actually they see each other as siblings". Despite cries from fans and many of the crew believing otherwise, the creator usually claims that they're supposed to be brothers/sisters. Merthur, JohnLock, Lokius, Supercorp, you name it. And now Jayvik
I'm not gonna go ahead and say that Arcane is queerbaiting, bc 1, I don't believe that's what's actually happening here, and 2, there are numerous openly queer characters/relationships in the show. CaitVi is the show's biggest relationship and it's sapphic. I doubt the intention behind many Jayvik scenes is queerbait
But it is important to acknowledge that there was a sizeable portion of writers and animators who saw Jayce and Viktor's relationship as romantic. Seriously, what do you call this?
Tumblr media
That's not something "brothers" usually do, and definitely not in contexts such as that. Far too many of their scenes and quotes echo these sort of things, at the very least, it is obvious that they are queercoded in some way. I don't doubt that the popularity of Jayvik in s1 influenced the process of season 2, to the point that crew members likely began seeing it in a similar light
All of this reminds me of the situation around Cassunzel (Cassandra x Rapunzel) from Tangled: the Series. Cass was queercoded from the very start, and several animators and producers confirmed that she harbored romantic feelings toward Rapunzel, yet Chris Sonnenburg, the creator, went to every possible length to make them be seen as sisters
(In my opinion, it didn't work, bc in no universe is this not romantic):
Tumblr media
My point is that show creators often pull this trick. Sometimes it's to reinforce a certain view, sometimes it's to appeal to a group of people, but almost always it's to dissuade people from shipping it. It's obvious that Christian Linke and the rest of the Arcane team were not on the same team in regards to Jayvik, and in this case, the subtext is more than what Linke says
So yes. They're gay

rory's blind date with a book (supercorp edition)
I've been thinking about how to create a master list of all my fics and thought this would be a much more fun way to do it. here, you will get the basics of each fic, but just like with a real blind date -- the plot & title will be a surprise! i hope you enjoy :)
one or two shots
☀️: domestic supercorp, small town au, lots of pretty vibes, healing, and fluff
☁️: lena centric hurt/comfort, autistic lena, and self acceptance/healing (again)
🦕: domestic fluff, hurt/comfort, and dinosaurs (not real ones). lots of softness and cuddles. established relationship. this was honestly just an excuse to write a story that is 100% supercorp snuggles
🐄: farm house idiots building a life together, coping with anxiety, fluff, and a proposal
👽: explorer lena, useless yet genius lesbians, hurt/comfort, humor, and fluff. also autistic lena if you squint
💜: trauma recovery, hurt/comfort, heavy angst, and very lena centric. be sure to read all of the trigger warnings as this one is a pretty heavy story
😔: sickfic, a story about bad tummy aches written by a girl with chronic tummy aches, lots of hurt/comfort, autistic lena, established relationship
multi-chapter fics
🐙: this fic is if like if the vibes of gilmore girls and "back to December" had a baby. there's angst, there's hurt comfort, there are immaculate vibes and stunning imagery. there's autistic lena, sleepovers, cuddles, ice skating, hand-holding, chess matches, broken fingers, and everything else you could possibly want including a sequel.
🐳: the sequel to 🐙. there's (almost) all of those same things except this also includes lena wearing a dress made out of police tape and some very soft smut.
🦖: post-crisis AU with found family, healing, and holiday fluff. touches on grief, kara's anger, and sam's various relationship dynamics with lena. there are also adorable family scenes and unexpected parenting
🤕: this fic is like two stories in one - it follows kara and lena's lives as kids and adults. lots of hurt/comfort, a deep dive into their trauma & healing, friends to lovers, and so much domesticity. both kara and lena are autistic. lena grows up very ill - this is the sickfic of all sickfics.
🏝: lena centric. lots of angst/hurt comfort. vivid imagery, diving deeper than we've ever gone into lena's past. an expansion on her life before the luthor's. autistic lena, of course. this one is pretty heavy, so mind the TWs. it is also the fic I believe to be my best work.
✨: friends to lovers, slow burn, queer platonic relationships, destigmatizing “scary” mental illnesses, autistic lena, trauma recovery & general themes of healing. Lots of hurt/comfort, communication, with a balance of angst and fluff
📚: what if lena nobody knew lena was lena luthor? slow burn but SO soft, so much fluff and hurt/comfort. again, lots of beautiful imagery. kara is willing to learn an entire language for lena before she even knows her last name. she also has an ongoing rivalry with lena’s asshole cat. autistic lena in the sense that - it was not intentionally written that way but every single person i’ve ever spoken to about this fic believed she was purposefully written as on the spectrum
💛: THE autistic lena fic. that’s all i’ve got to say.
🍞: slice of life sickfic showing two stark realities of kara and lena existing in the same world, but in different galaxies. friends to lovers, eventual hurt/comfort. autistic lena & ADHD kara!
😱: supercorp if they were wealthy milfs living their best lives until they aren’t. mystery, angst, and some thriller elements!
other:
🐢: a series of oneshots to add to 🤕, including some deleted scenes. just a way for me to add to that universe without clogging up the original fic

Bwahahahah! It’s done! It’s finally done! This project that has taken every spare minute of my time is complete! Long story short. I love the ‘Superman Smashes The Klan’ DC comic! Enough to try to learn Gurihiru’s art style so that I could insert my favorite DC Power couple into the comic universe because they didn’t exist in it! Seems to be a theme with me lately. Any way, this was a labor of love and a challenge for me. I learned a lot studying Gurihiru’s style and also felt like I had so much more to learn by the end of it. I spent a long time on this so I’d love if any Supercorp fans wanted to have some back and forth on the subject. Also please read the original source material, it’s a great story and you won’t be sorry. I went into more detail on this version of the characters in my character design exercise I did of them previously. But just so you know the characters are kinda a combo of stuff I liked and didn’t like about the earliest incarnations of the characters. Here’s hoping I don’t notice any glaring mistakes after I post….

I'm not caught up on My Adventures With Superman, but I've seen enough promos posts on social media to know that they seem to be doing something with Kara and Jimmie, which, sigh. I'm sure it's done well, this show is great and it's probably handled fantastically. I can't lie though, a part of me was desperately hoping that this would be the mainstream thing that they let Kara be queer in.
A part of me knew that there wasn't any chance in hell of that happening. At this point, I don't expect anything popular and mainstream to have any queer content beyond minor stuff in the margins. (Like how MAWS let a he/him gorilla and a he/him brain in a jar be a couple in one episode)
I wanted so badly to be proven wrong. Partially because it's Kara and I've been longing so badly for the day they let her actually be queer in one of the mainstream canons and not just in AU stuff like Dark Knights of Steel and Bombshells. As a Kara and Barb shipper in my youth and a supercorp shipper now, I've always read Kara as a queer character, and I've always hoped that would be confirmed someday.
And partially because I fear we are starting to slide backwards.
(Please keep in mind that this is entirely about western animation. I'm not talking about anime or live-action stuff here)
For a moment, it felt like we were building a space for major mainstream LGBTQ+ rep, specifically sapphic rep. You know, not just some minor characters here and there, but main characters, protagonists even.
Steven Universe, Legend of Korra, and Adventure Time led into She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which immediately led into the Owl House, Harley Quinn, and Dead End: Paranormal Park.
There is Arcane, but with the way Netflix has been recently, I wouldn't be shocked if s2 completely shied away from caitvi being a thing and just never addressed it. Again, I hope I'm wrong. And there's a pretty good chance we still have RWBY's Bumbleby for a little longer. Arcane is ending this fall, and RWBY has maybe 1 - 3 volumes left at most and is having to fight for every one.
Honestly the best thing we have going right now that seems to have a future is Hazbin Hotel, and I understand that's not for everyone.
But on the whole, it feels like the momentum we've been building over the last decade has completely stalled and crashed. Yes, this is very much a byproduct of the entire United States backsliding on the progress its made, but I'm not equipped to have that conversation.
And this has been mostly focused on sapphic representation. Even when the momentum was building, we never even got far enough with having queer men characters and trans characters.
Hopefully someday Kara Zor-El can be a main character in a mainstream thing and actually get to kiss a girl. Hopefully Lena Luthor.
I hope I'm wrong and by this time next year there's a new animated series that's the hottest thing on Max or Netflix and the protagonist is a cocky lesbian that makes out with women everywhere she goes.
I'm hoping.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers! Spread the self-love 💞
oh this is so hard, i have a special place in my heart for every fic ive written...but ill try to narrow it down to published works so far!!
"you and me" - supercorp/supergirl. the first baby fic i ever posted, i literally get nostalgic thinking about it. no matter how much time passes i'll always have a soft spot for kara & lena & baby mike <3
"all i ever wanted was to dream another sunset with you" - wildmoore/batwoman. this fic is a love letter to ryan wilder and sophie moore and the two of them finding each other - i tried to make a dreamy kind of atmosphere and honestly, the love story is one of the fave i've ever written !!
"mutually assured destruction" - babitha/gotham. im the singular audience for this fic but it's something i have enjoyed writing so so much... i started it as a challenge to myself and i HAD to let it leave the drafts (99% of explicit fics i write do not, so this is saying something)
"1,370,911" - supercorp/supergirl. writing this fic felt like a fever dream to me bc soulmate AUs are so interesting but i never thought i'd take a crack at my own! i ended up so happy w/the result & this universe is one of my favorites. (plus, making the playlist singlehandedly ignited a deep love of making more and more fic playlists)
"and if you leave the light on (then i'll leave the light on)" - supercorp/supergirl. i literally worked on this for almost 4 years and it has a big piece of my heart, okay! finding the balance between humor and found family and overall love was such a journey i wouldn't trade for the world. i only hope it makes people feel the same way it made me feel 💕

Fanfic Writer Questions!
Thanks for the tag, @fazedlight and @thatonebirdwrites
1- How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 16
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
356,960
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Supergirl – Arrowverse/ DC Comics: Primarily Supercorp, secondarily Dansen, Brainia, and J’M’zz, and I have one AgentReign with secondary Supercorp.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
PRIDE and Prejudice – Super gay retelling of Jane Austen’s classic. Every kudos equals $1.00US to a LGBTQIA2S charity I make at the conclusion of Pride month (June) each year (teen)
Tell Me It’s Not Too Late – Post-S4, Lillian believes Supergirl is responsible for Lex’s death. Lena rushes to J’onn’s for game night, to confront Kara on her identity, only to find she’s nowhere to be found (teen)
I Believe in a Thing Called Love – Full alternate Season 6 rewrite (teen)
Wouldn’t It Be Nice – 50 First Dates movie AU (teen)
How Lost We Are – Lena is placed by her Witness Protection team (Maggie, Kelly, and Lucy) in Midvale as a flower shop owner where she meets teacher Kara and coffee/bookshop owner Jess, among others (mature)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes, I do usually respond, though not always right away. I enjoy chatting about my fics, so don’t hesitate to ask questions, but I don’t give out spoilers though.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
When She’s Gone, the Darkness Comes – Oof. It was so sad I had to write a second chapter. I much prefer happy endings (teen)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of them have a happy ending of some kind, or they will once they’re completed. Though there are some with happy endings like Speak Now and Tis the Damn Season. Smut. I’m talking about smut (explicit)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Yeah, though I’ve been mostly lucky. I don’t know why people leave hate on any fics really. If you don’t like something, close the tab.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. It started as a small scene here or there when it was a natural progression of the fic, but now I occasionally right full smut fics and pwp like those found here (explicit)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Kind of, but the characters are all from within the Arrowverse/ DC Comics universes somewhere.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I don't understand why someone would do this. Please respect writers.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes. I Believe in a Thing Called Love is also in Spanish Creo en una cosa llamada amor (teen)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I’m currently working on one with @thatonebirdwrites, though it's not published. It’s a Supercorp fic where Kara is a building inspector and when she goes to inspect Lena’s home, she meets Lena’s daughter to tells her the floor is lava, so naturally Kara has to ensure that issue gets resolved.
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Supercorp. But I do love most wlw ships
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I intent to finish all of my active WIPs. I have some WIP ideas that may or may not ever get going, but once I start a fic, I intend to finish it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I have no idea… I guess easter egg type stuff or like blending canon into storylines. If your a reader and there's something you think is a strength I have, let me know.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually writing. Words be hard. And it's hard to find the time.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I do it sometimes, probably not well. I like to include the translation in the fic (unless the characters themselves aren’t supposed to understand until later). But I'm sure the translations aren't fully right as I only use google translate and the Kryptonian dictionary.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Supercorp. I started writing fiction in Dec 2020. Before that it was all scientific research papers for uni.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I suppose What Has Been Lost (Mature). It was what started this crazy adventure, has been the most challenging piece, and my longest (still ongoing). It truly blends lore and characters from across the Arrowverse and DC Comics into a human world and original storyline.

Lena doesn’t realize she has appendicitis. Kara has to convince and get her to the hospital.
Well, I made this one deeper than I had to. Cheesy and fluffy, be warned. Let us all just cry together. Hope you like it:
Kara's Universe (Supercorp)
by marinawolf
Tumblr media
Kara flew through the night sky as she held tightly onto the box of donuts, the bag of fries, and the steaming cups of coffee. Lena had been working late again, and Kara couldn't stand the thought of her girlfriend pushing herself to the limit without even taking a break to eat. She knew that Lena wouldn't notice her own hunger until she was done with whatever pressing matter required her attention.
Landing on Lena's balcony, Kara pushed open the heavy glass door leading into Lena's office, a familiar sanctuary tucked away in the bustling heart of L-Corp. As she stepped inside, the soft click of her boots against the polished floor echoed softly in the room, but Lena was too engrossed in her work to notice. The scent of Lena's favorite vanilla-scented candles mingled with the faint aroma paper and ink.
With a gentle smile gracing her lips, Kara's gaze fell upon the figure at the center of the room. Lena, the epitome of elegance, stood at her desk, engrossed in a sea of papers that swallowed her attention. Kara's heart skipped a beat as she took in the breathtaking sight before her.
Lena's lustrous, chestnut locks were gathered in a high ponytail, accentuating the graceful curve of her neck. The contrast of her hair against the pristine white collar of her shirt was striking, emphasizing the sheer beauty that seemed to radiate from her every pore. Lost in her thoughts, Kara's eyes trailed down, taking in the silhouette of Lena's perfect body. The tailored lines of her charcoal gray pants clung to her in all the right places, accentuating the graceful curve of her hips. Kara marveled at how Lena managed to maintain an air of sophistication even in the most simple of outfits.
As Kara's gaze continued its exploration, she couldn't help but notice the telltale signs of strain in Lena's demeanor. The subtle tightness in her shoulders spoke volumes and the slight clenching of Lena's fingers as they hovered over the documents betrayed the hidden stress that she carried within. Kara's superhuman senses heightened her awareness of Lena's body language, attuned to even the faintest whispers of discomfort.
Kara's concern deepened as she witnessed Lena's hand drift up to her neck, fingertips gently massaging the tense muscles. The action was a silent admission of the strain Lena bore, the countless hours she poured into her work. Kara couldn't bear to see Lena in pain, even if it was merely a hint of discomfort. Concern welled up inside Kara, prompting her to take a few cautious steps forward. She carefully placed the food on a small table next to Lena's desk and without a second thought, she closed the distance between them, her footsteps soft and barely audible as she slowly approached her from behind, wrapping her arms around Lena's waist. Kara's lips found Lena's neck, leaving a tender kiss.
"Hey, darling," Lena said, her voice filled with surprise and affection, instantly recognising Kara's touch. "I didn't hear you come in. I've missed you today."
Kara's heart flipped at the endearing endearment. "I missed you, too" she whispered, "And I knew you wouldn't have had anything to eat, so I brought you something."
Lena turned in Kara's embrace, her eyes shining with gratitude. She leaned in and kissed Kara, a silent thank you that spoke volumes. "I love you," she murmured against Kara's lips.
--
Taking a seat on the couch together, Kara positioned herself cross-legged, facing Lena, with their shared food between them. Kara couldn't help but steal glances at Lena. The way her shirt was unbuttoned at the top, revealing her collarbones and the delicate curve of her chest was captivating. Lena picked up a fry from the bag, popping it into her mouth while holding a donut in her hand.
"I didn't realize until now that I was starving and craving something salty." she admitted with a smile, savoring the flavors. "It's like you have a sixth sense for my cravings."
"In more ways than one," Kara responded with a smirk, unable to help herself.
Lena giggled, taking a bite of her donut.
"How do these weird food combinations you come up with always manage to taste amazing?"
Kara chuckled, reaching for a donut of her own. "I call it my ultra secret superpower. Magic, really."
Lena took a sip of her coffee, her gaze never leaving Kara's. "Well, you definitely have me under your spell, Kara Danvers. I'll happily be your taste-tester for life."
Kara's heart fluttered at Lena's words.
Lena leaned backed against the coach, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"You know, when I woke up this morning, I went to water the new plant I bought you," she said, teasingly, "And I noticed that it was dead."
Kara's expression turned sheepish as she scratched the back of her neck. "Oh… about that. I forgot to water it."
Lena burst into laughter, shaking her head affectionately. "Kara Danvers, the Supergirl who can save the world but can't keep a plant alive. And you had wanted one so badly, too."
Kara blushed, "Hey, I have my strengths. Plant care just isn't one of them. But don't worry, I won't let any more green lives suffer under my watch. I promise."
Lena's laughter softened into a warm smiled and she reached out and brushed a stray strand of Kara's hair behind her ear.
"Well, darling, it's a good thing you excel at saving lives instead of plants. But fear not, I hereby vow to become the guardian of all things green in our relationship. I'll take over the plant duties from now on."
Kara laughed, placing a hand to her chest. "Lena Luthor, my hero."
Their conversation shifted to the upcoming game night on Saturday, and Kara playfully pointed a fry at Lena. "You know, we need to bring our A-game this time. Alex and Kelly are getting way too good at those board games. It's like they're strategizing against us!"
Lena chuckled, a competitive gleam in her eyes. "Well, if it's a challenge they want, it's a challenge they'll get. Consider me game night ready."
"Well, you cost us the last game." Kara teased, "Your drawing skills are lacking."
Lena looked affronted, "My drawing skills are incredible," she protested, laughing. "You just don't know how to interpret real art."
As they bantered back and forth, Kara couldn't help but notice the subtle signs of discomfort Lena displayed. Her hand occasionally drifted to her right side, a fleeting wince crossing her features.
"Lena," Kara began tentatively, concern lacing her voice. "Are you feeling okay? You seem a little off."
Lena waved off her concern, a gentle smile on her lips. "Oh, it's nothing, darling. Just a little tiredness and overworking catching up with me. I'll be fine."
But Kara's super senses told her a different story. She could hear Lena's heart racing, see the slight flush on her cheeks and the glistening sheen of sweat on her brow. Panic surged through Kara's veins.
Lena's phone rang.
"You're not fine," Kara insisted, trying to ignore the persistent ringtone, determination shining in her eyes. "You need to get checked out, Lena. Please. You can't keep pushing yourself like this."
"I'm okay, sweetheart, I promise." Lena said, reaching out to touch Kara's face, "And besides, going to the hospital might bring unwanted attention and publicity."
Lena stood up to go answer her ringing phone, but before she could reach her desk, her steps faltered. Kara saw Lena stumble, a wave of dizziness overtaking her, and her reflexes kicked in. She rushed to catch Lena, her worry escalating.
"I told you something was wrong," Kara said softly, her voice filled with a mix of fear and determination. "I'm taking you to the DEO medical wing. They can help and it'll be discreet."
Lena nodded weakly, her body growing semi-unconscious in Kara's arms. Kara pressed a gentle kiss to Lena's forehead, her heart pounding with worry, before she took off in a panic, flying with Lena securely in her arms.
Arriving at the DEO medical wing, Kara gently placed Lena on a bed, her blue-green eyes flickering open briefly before drifting shut again. Doctors rushed in, assessing the situation, and Kara's fears were confirmed—it was appendicitis. Lena had been brought in just in time.
--
Clutching a small teddy bear dressed in a miniature lab coat, Kara sat by Lena's side, her hands tightly holding onto the plush toy.
Around Lena's hospital room, on every available surface, were flowers. During Lena's surgery, Kara had to wait anxiously outside the operating room, feeling helpless and restless. Unable to bear the tension, she had rushed out to get Lena's favorite flowers—breathtaking lilies—in an attempt to distract herself. However, her emotions got the better of her, and she ended up bringing an overwhelming number of them, filling Lena's hospital room with their ethereal beauty.
Lena's eyes slowly fluttered open, and Kara's heart skipped a beat at the sight. Her beautiful blue-green eyes, still glazed with the remnants of anesthesia, began to focus on Kara's worried face. It was a moment of pure relief, knowing that Lena was waking up and would be okay. Their gazes met, and a rush of emotions flooded Kara's senses.
"Hey," Lena whispered softly, a small smile playing on her lips.
Kara couldn't contain her relief any longer. With tears welling up in her eyes, she leaned in, placing a tender kiss on Lena's lips, expressing her love and relief. She then handed Lena the teddy bear.
Lena looked at the teddy bear and chuckled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "It's me," she whispered contentedly, her voice hoarse. Her gaze then shifted around the room, taking in the abundance of lilies. "What's all this?" she asked, her eyes widening in awe.
Kara's expression softened as she explained, "While you were in surgery, I needed something to distract myself. I ended up going a little overboard."
Lena's eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you."
Kara smiled at Lena, but her concern that had abated upon Lena's waking quickly returned.
"Lena, I need to talk to you about something. The doctors said the pain you felt must have been excruciating, and they were surprised you let it go on for so long."
Lena's brows furrowed slightly, her eyes reflecting a mixture of understanding and guilt. "I know I've been pushing too hard, but I can't let things slip, Kara. I can't be like my family."
Kara gently caressed Lena's hand, her heart aching for Lena. She couldn't believe that Lena could think, even for a second, that she was anything like her family
"Lena, you don't have to push yourself so hard anymore. You've already proven yourself time and time again, rising above the shadows of your family's dark legacy. When people hear the name 'Luthor' now, they think of you—your greatness, your kindness, your intelligence, and your tireless efforts to create a better world."
Kara paused, her voice filled with conviction. "You've redefined what it means to be a Luthor. You've built a legacy of your own, one that shines with compassion and empathy. You've shown the world that a name doesn't define who you are or what you can achieve." Kara's eyes glistened with unshed tears. "Baby, I don't want you to exhaust yourself in the pursuit of proving something to anyone else. You've already proven it to me, to yourself, and to everyone who truly knows you. You are incredible."
Lena didn't respond, but Kara could see the anguish in her eyes, the unshed tears as she registered Kara's words.
She leaned in, pressing a kiss to Lena's forehead and felt Lena's fingers tighten around her own. "Lena, please, I'm begging you to take care of yourself. Not just for your sake, but for mine too. I love you more than life itself. You are the center of my universe, Lena. I can't bear to imagine a world without you in it."
Kara's voice quivered as she confessed her deepest fears. "Every time you push yourself too hard, neglect your own well-being, or sacrifice your own happiness, it's like a knife through my heart. I can't stand the thought of losing you. So please, Lena, promise me that you'll take care of yourself."
Tears welled up in Lena's eyes as she listened to Kara's words, her voice trembling with remorse. "I'm sorry, Kara."
Again, Kara's heart clenched. She reached out and wiped away Lena's tears, her voice brimming with reassurance. "God, don't apologize, Lena. Just know that I will do everything in my power for you. I'll hold you when you're tired, I'll listen when you need to talk, and I'll wipe away your tears when life gets overwhelming. I will be there, but just promise me that you'll be careful from now on, that you won't push yourself so hard."
Lena's gaze softened, understanding the depth of Kara's concern.
"I promise," she whispered.
Relieved and feeling an incredible amount of love for her girlfriend, Kara leaned in and kissed Lena gently, their lips speaking volumes of their unwavering devotion.
As they broke apart, Lena placed a hand on Kara's face.
"I must have done something great to deserve you, Kara Danvers," she whispered, before pulling Kara back to her lips.
As they kissed, Kara couldn't help but think about how true her own words about Lena being the center of her universe were. Lena occupied the center of Kara's universe. She was the gravitational force that pulled Kara closer, the constellation guiding her through the vastness of existence. Lena was the ethereal melody that resonated within Kara's soul, the one irreplaceable presence that held the key to her happiness. Without Lena, Kara would be a drifting planet, untethered and purposeless, lost in the vast expanse of emptiness, with nothing holding her together.
Kara was eternally grateful to whatever sentient being that controlled the universe for leading her unerringly to Lena and vowed to protect Lena with her life.

supercorp au where kara locks lena into a time loop that will continue on until there is a timeline where lena forgives kara for lying to her and they can be together bc in kara’s original universe lena never forgives her & dies somehow but the loop always starts the day before kara canonically tells lena she is supergirl but w varying differences in the events of that timeline (perhaps lex did not tell her or lena didn’t feel betrayed by supergirl in s3 or in the reactions lena has) & the only way to reset the loop is if lena dies so every time she doesn’t forgive kara kara is forced to let her die if she wants another chance w lena and lena becomes aware of the fact that she is caught in this loop & finds out the only way she can stop it is to kill kara and kara is like fine kill me bc she can’t bear to watch lena die again but she also doesn’t want to live in a world where lena never forgives her but in the end lena can’t do it even though she thought she wanted to but they are able to find peace in realizing how much they love each other and how filled w grief they are over the fact that they’ve had to lose each other over & over and they kiss and get married and everything is beautiful….

Across the Universe (A Slavers Moon Supercorp ficlet)
A little while ago I posted a ficlet/idea about Lena being abducted by Roulette and nearly sold on Slavers Moon before Kara comes and saves her. But what if Kara arrived too late to save Lena and Izzy? Please, enjoy the exploration.
---
When Kara finds her people on Argo, her delight is tempered by loss and grief. All of her emotions have been, ever since... ever since Lena.
When she found her friend missing, the last thing she expected was for Roulette to be behind the abduction, let alone that the snake had ferried Lena off earth with a number of other human abductees. Kara chased them to Slavers Moon, but arrived too late-- they were gone. Sold and ferried off the moon to Rao knows where.
Kara returned a number of times in an attempt to learn where they might have been taken, but had been stonewalled and rebuffed at every turn. The Supergirl name carried no weight there, even after she made it clear she had no intention of freeing other potential slaves-- a decision that pained her but made regardless. She would do anything to find her friend and bring her home.
But on Argo, Kara finds her way into the upper echelons of clientele. Armed with the traditional robes and cloak of Kryptonian style, and bearing the seal of the House of El, she visited the Daxamite stateship as an ambassador. Returning Queen Rhea's son to her had granted her a favor, which Kara immediately traded for an invitation to Slavers Moon next upcoming auction-- one reserved for the galactic elite.
Upon arrival, Kara finds it easy to grow detached from the events happening around her. She's grown detached from most things in the years since Lena's disappearance. She sips on Aldebaaran rum and surveys the people around her, commiting names and faces to memory.
She recognizes many species, knows their home planets from her time on on Krypton. Though they had been an isolated people, they had gathered much information on their neighbors and former allies.
When the auction starts, Kara bids often enough to avoid suspicion but low enough that she's swiftly outbid. Her stomach and jaw clench when a series of humans are issued onto the stage. She's so angry that she almost misses the discovery that each one is purchased by a single patron.
Kara moves swiftly. It's easy to charm the Nelkloran -- they seem to have a fascination with humanoids, and the El crest makes them eager to share their planet with her. Eager enough to shuttle her to Nelklor right then and there.
Finding a secluded corner, Kara contacts the Waverider, who had lent their aid as the only long range space craft Earth had at its disposal. There Alex receives her message, and vows to follow and stand by until further instruction.
Nelklor is beautiful. Lush and green with vibrant flora, even in the heart of the captial city they land in. Kara endures a tour of the landmarks deemed most important by her host, and plays the perfect guest for three days, eating and lounging with beautiful humanoids serving to her every need. None of them are Lena.
On the evening of the third day, Kara pointedly yawns. Suddenly anxious that their guest may be bored, her Nelkloran host begs to know what would interest her most.
"Beauty," she says. "And pleasures of a more.... sensual nature."
Her host understands her completely. They gladly escort her to a place that translates directly to a 'pleasure house'. There she demands to be left alone.
"I do not enjoy an audience."
She's graciously recieved in the front room, ushered into a plush waiting room where she's offered food and drink and and a catalogue of services. After a few minutes to peruse, an employee approaches her.
"Welcome to our facility," the humanoid concierge begins, a broad smile-- a little too broad to be genuine-- on their face. "Is there anything that piques your interest?"
"So many to choose from," Kara muses. "It would suit me better to choose once I know who I'll share my experience with."
The concierge nods. "Of course. Does my lady have a preference? Please be as specific as you like-- we host a wide variety of interests."
Kara pretends to consider. "Female, I think. Human, with fair skin, and dark hair-- the darker the better."
Their eyes brighten with a nod. "Yes, of course. We have several with such specifications." They tap a small tablet in their hand, and nods when they find what they're looking for. "And one is currently available. Is my lady ready to proceed?"
Kara nods. "I prefer not to be kept waiting."
Being led through the corridors, Kara makes note of windows and doors. The facility is expansive, with many of the rooms they pass fully occupied, judging from the sounds from within-- not all of them pleasurable.
When they come to a stop outside a room, the concierge taps again on their tablet, and the small blue light next to the door turns red.
"You may take as much time as you please. If you desire refreshment during your stay, please don't hesitate to inform us-- there is a console inside the room to request anything you may require."
Kara nods. "Thank you."
Her stomach twists with a mix of dread and anticipation. When the concierge takes their leave, Kara pauses a moment to take a deep breath-- then pushes into the room.
The door closes behind her, leaving Kara alone with a slim woman wearing a sheer robe that hid little. The woman's back is to her, as she casually clips jewels to her ears.
"If you know what you'd like, please make your payment."
Kara's heart lurches. The low, smooth voice instantly finds its home in Kara's senses, filling her relief and bringing tears to her eyes.
"Lena," she croaks.
Lena spins, eyes wide with shock. It's not until her gaze settles on the el mayarah on her chest that recognition seems to hit.
"Supergirl."
The word sounds like the wind has been punched from her lungs, shrouded in disbelief. Kara struggles to speak, but can't find the words around the lump in her throat, even as Lena slowly closes the distance between them, curling her fingers into the cloak wrapped around Kara's shoulders.
With another exhale, Lena's eyes squeeze shut, her chin dipping in relief. Kara reflexively tips her own chin, letting her forehead rest against Lena's.
"You found me," Lena whispers.
"I never stopped looking."
Lena's fingers tighten, then relax to smooth across the fabric of Kara's robes, caressing her shoulders until her hands come to rest on Kara's arms. Her head pulls back, and their eyes meet again, the connection unspeakably deep.
"Please," Lena asks. "Take me home."
Kara nods, reaching up to grasp Lena's hands. She feels a spark when their fingers brush, a sensation that spreads into a warmth that fills every inch of her.
"Let's go."
There's a surprising lack of guards in the corridor, but Kara still moves as quickly as she can, pulling Lena along with her. Only a few steps down the hall, however, Lena pulls back.
"Wait, wait, wait!" she issues breathlessly. She scurries back the way they came, barefeet scuffing lightly against the floor. She makes a beeline for a room a few doors down from her own, and frantically turns the knob, only to find it lock.
"Supergirl--"
Kara's already moving. Though Nelklor has a yellow sun, its strength is less than Earth's, leaving her without many of her powers. But she has enough strength to shoulder her way through the door to find another woman inside, this time in bed with a client.
Both woman and client yelp in surprise, recoiling to cover themselves. Lena rushes in past Kara, pulling the woman from the bed.
"Izzy, let's go!"
Izzy doesn't need to be told twice. She springs from the bed and throws on a sheer robe of her own, a light purple to Lena's deep blue. Kara waves both women through the door and ushers them towards a door she'd identified as a likely exit. Sure enough, it opens to the outdoors. All three surge through, freedom itching at their fingertips-- only for it all to come crashing down.
Lena and Izzy both drop their knees with a scream of pain, covering their ears with both hands. Their cries muffle to keening moan as they curl in on themselves to escape an unescapable agony.
"Lena!" Kara drops to her knees in front of her, gripping her by the wrists and tilting her head up. With a gasp, she sees Lena's eyes glazed and unfocused, completely unseeing. "Lena, what's wrong, tell me--"
Lena releases one ear with a cry, blindly feeling her way until she finds Izzy's arm. She pushes the woman towards Kara.
"Supergirl," Lena moans, gasping. "Go."
The message is clear-- take Izzy and flee.
Lena must have forgotten what it means to be Supergirl.
Reaching into her belt, Kara pulls out a device designed for this very instance. "Shut your eyes."
She needn't have worried-- both Lena's and Izzy's eyes are screwed shut in pain. With a click of a button, Kara detonates the device and tosses it into the air. A burst of high intensity yellow sunlight envelops them, filling Kara with more than just her  strength.
"Hold on," she urges, collecting a woman in each arm. She launches into the air just as the facility door clangs open, and guards finally spill out after their escaping slaves. Kara quickly zooms out of reach, lifting higher and higher until Alex hails her on the earpiece.
"Waverider is inbound. Cargo bay door will be open and waiting."
True to her sister's word, Kara lands inside the Waveriders cargo bay. Within moments, they are zooming out of the planet's atmosphere and into the dark of outer space.
Kara shouts for her sister, quickly moving to set Lena and Izzy on their feet, where they soon once again collapse to their knees in pain.
Sara Lance doesn't wait for Alex. "Get them to the medbay, now."
Kara obeys, depositing Izzy on one bed and Lena on the other. Sara is close on her heels, snapping orders to Gideon.
"Put them under," she instructs, and within moments Lena and Izzy go still, their whimpers quieting as Gideon administers a sedative.
Alex enters a few moments later. "What happened?"
"Initial examination complete," Gideon announces. "They both have devices planted in their ear canals, which are currently emitting a high frequency signal."
Alex sighs, running a hand through her cropped hair. "Damn it. Probably a deterrent."
"Gideon, can you remove the devices?" Sara asks.
There's a beat as the computer thinks. "Yes," she determines a moment later. "Though the procedure will be painful, and may result in partial or total hearing loss."
Alex and Sara looks to Kara, allowing her to make the call.
Kara's decision is easy to make. "Do it," she tells Gideon. To Sara and Alex, she softens her voice. "Whatever will ease their pain."
"Very well," Gideon responds. "It will take some time to prepare--"
"Gideon--" Kara interrupts, suddenly hesitant. "Could you please run another scan? I have reason to believe their vision may be affected as well."
"Certainly. I will notify you as soon as the tests and procedures are complete."
Alex nods, reaching for Kara's hand. "Come on, I have a change of clothes for you--"
Kara pulls her hand away. "I don't need a change of clothes," she clips. Her gaze is glued to Lena, and she has no intention of leaving. "I'm staying."
"Kara--"
"I'm staying," she repeats, this time with the authority of an El.
Alex withdraws a step, shock and hurt flashing across her features. She takes her hand back, and nods. "Okay."
Sara takes Alex by the shoulders, nudging her towards the medbay door. "Come on. Let's leave Gideon to it."
Finally alone, Kara settles onto a stool next to Lena. She situates herself between the two beds, but it's Lena's hand she reaches for, Lena's hair she smoothes out of her friend's face.
There she stays, a silent sentinel.
The frequency emitter isn't the only deterrent they find.
A small chip in each of the women's frontal cortex renders them blind, a measure designed to incapacitate them in the event of an attempted escape. This time, they can't remove the devices, nor do they find a way to deactivate them. Their loss of vision is total and permanent.
The one small consolation is that Izzy escapes the removal of the frequency with no complications, her hearing preserved. When Lena is tested, however, they learn that the removal has resulted in unilateral partial hearing loss in her right ear.
“Is there nothing you can do?” Izzy asks, clinging to Lena’s hand. Izzy hasn’t left Lena’s side since waking, desperate for comfort in her newly darkened world.
Alex shakes her head. “I’m sorry,” she offers. “It’s possible it may come back over time, but Gideon says it’s… not likely.”
Lena covers Izzy’s hand with her own. “It’s okay.”
“Lena–!”
“It could be worse,” Lena states bluntly. Izzy falls quiet, her features falling.
For several long moments, none of them say anything. Izzy is the first to break the silence.
“Supergirl?”
Kara straightens. “I’m here.”
“You said… you said my mom reached out to you?”
It takes a moment of nodding before Kara remembers that Izzy can’t see it. “Yes,” she says quickly.
“How– how long have we been gone? Is she okay?”
Kara sees Lena’s eyes track towards her in interest– coming close but not quite focusing on her. Kara takes a breath.
“She misses you,” she starts. “But she never gave up hope of finding you. It’s been… it’s been a long two years.”
Izzy’s eyes fill with tears. Her hand tightens on Lena’s, who gives it a reassuring rub. “It’s okay,” Lena murmurs. “We’ll be home soon.”
Kara nods, grateful for the silver lining. “That’s right. We’re almost at the Sol system. About 76 hours from Earth. We’ll make sure your mother is waiting when we land.”
As Kara watches, Lena’s features darken. Her jaw tightens, but she says nothing. Sensing the shift in Lena’s mood, Kara shoots a glance at Alex, who understands in an instant. “Hey Izzy, how about we take you to the galley so you can get some food?”
“But Lena–”
“It’s fine, Izz. I’ll join you in a moment. I have some things I’d like to discuss with Supergirl.”
Reluctantly, Izzy releases her grip on Lena, and carefully slips off the medbay bed. Accepting Alex’s offered arm, she allows herself to be led from the room, her footsteps faltering only slightly as she goes.
Kara turns back to Lena as the door hisses shut behind them. “It’s just us,” she says, coming a few steps closer so that Lena wouldn’t have to strain to hear. “What’s wrong?”
“Besides the obvious, you mean?” Lena scoffs. The joke carries a dark edge, one that dulls slightly when Lena’s shoulders slump slightly. “Sorry. You didn’t deserve that.”
“It’s okay,” Kara promises. “You’ve been through a lot–”
“My mother,” Lena cuts in, clearly interested in neither platitudes nor presumptions that anyone but Izzy has any idea what the past two years have been like. “I’m assuming she knows I was abducted?”
“Yes.” Kara’s tone is enough for Lena to quirk one eyebrow, prompting Kara to continue. “When she learned what happened, Lillian escaped from prison. Ever since she learned you were taken off world, she’s made it her life’s mission to further her crusade against aliens. Myself and the DEO have managed to thwart the worst of it, but…”
Kara trails off, but Lena has never been one to shy away from harsh truths. “But what?”
“She’s managed to abduct and shuttle several ships of aliens offworld. We’re not exactly sure where to– I don’t even know if she bothered to program a destination.”
Lena releases a shaking breath. “How many?”
“Almost 3,500 so far, and they haven’t stopped. Cadmus doesn’t discriminate either. Anyone who registered under the Alien Amnesty Act is at risk, including children.”
“Jesus,” Lena breathes. She pauses a moment before continuing. “What can I do?”
Hope flares in Kara’s chest. Not only would Lena’s help prove invaluable, but it seems the last two years haven’t managed to break her spirit. “You can rest and recuperate–”
“Don’t patronize me, Supergirl,” Lena snaps, irritation flashing across her features. “It’s been two years. My company has either collapsed or is doing fine without me. I have no friends, and my only family still at large is ruining countless lives. I’m not going to just sit on my hands and wallow in self-pity.”
It seems little about Lena Luthor has changed, then. She’s still the same headstrong, self-possessed woman Kara met in that L-Corp executive suite two years ago– the same woman Kara so quickly grew attached to. The same woman she’s longed to find ever since she learned of her abduction.
“You’re wrong,” Kara informs her. “You do have friends.”
“Izzy doesn’t count–”
“Kara Danvers has missed you every single day since you went missing.”
Lena freezes. “Kara?” She swallows thickly. “She– she missed me?”
Lena’s voice is so small, so doubtful that Kara makes her decision right then and there.
“Yes,” she says. “I did.”
It takes a moment for the words to land, and another still for them to click together. Lena’s eyes widen then, her mouth gaping slightly before her jaw works minutely as she struggles to regain her voice.
“Oh.”
Kara crosses to stand in front of Lena, making sure to keep her steps loud enough to Lena to hear her approach. She takes Lena’s hand and places it against the El Mayarah, over her heart.
“There’s not a day that went by that I didn’t think of you. And– and I’m sorry I wasn’t there to save you.”
“Kara…” Lena curls her hand, clasping Kara’s fingertips. She blinks, and tears spill down her cheeks. “Thank you.”
“You are my friend, Lena.” Kara knows in that moment that she would have crossed a thousand galaxies to bring her home. “No matter what happens next… I promise you won’t do it alone.”
The next thing Kara knows, Lena’s arms have slipped around her middle, squeezing tight. Lena buries her face against Kara’s chest, the position made awkward by the fact Lena is still sitting on the bed, but Kara doesn’t care. She returns the hug as fiercely as she dares.
“We’re going home.”

My friend told me to post this tiny SC ficlet so here goes i hope you’ll take my little token of my love for this fandom and all you do for me with the beautiful things you all create.

—————
Kara took a deep breath, she could feel the adrenaline coursing through her, her vision darkening around the edges as her chest started feeling tight and she could hear her heart drum in her ears.
“Lena can I talk to you?”
Her own voice sounded weird and foreign, and kind of far away. She couldn’t remember what she had said, what she was going to say, yet she knew it was going to screw things up between them.
But as Lena turned to her and locked eyes with her, concern evident as she seemed to search Kara’s expression for an indication of what was happening, if Kara was ok, if she needed to do something to make sure she was ok, Kara knew it was too late to back out now. She had no choice but to keep talking. Literally, as she realized her mind no longer had control over what was about to come out of her mouth.
So in response to the slight tilt of Lena’s head she spoke, a little too loudly, a little too fast, a little off-kilter.
“Lena I don’t think I can, I need to tell you something, but please don’t hate me, promise me you won’t hate me, I don’t want to lose you please, ever I just —“ Her eyes locked with Lena’s and for a split second the thoughts in her head quieted down, she could breathe, oxygen was flowing to her brain again.
That was until Lena put a hand on her biceps and with a reassuring squeeze invited her to continue, with a softly spoken “Kara?”
Rao the way she said her name, so warm, so quietly, so full of love and Kara just wanted to wrap herself up in the two syllables falling off Lena’s lips and yell into the universe YES, YES I AM KARA. She had never loved her name as much as when Lena spoke it.
Her eyes fell to those lips, those gorgeous, soft lips, just begging to be kissed.
Kara closed her eyes and breathed to steady herself before losing control again and, while begging to please stop, to not say anything, to not risk anything of what they had, she blurted out:
“Lena I think I’m in love with you.”
She squeezed her eyes shut tighter, hoping that if she couldn’t see Lena’s expression she wouldn’t have to face the certain revolt, and hurt, and rejection that was certainly painted across her best friend’s face.
Her best friend.
Tears slipped through her lashes and down her cheeks as she realized she had gone and truly screwed everything up. She had lost Lena. She had lost her best friend. She had messed it up as she had messed up every friendship before this. By being too much, too intense, too attached.
Her shoulders tightened as she felt a sob part to build in her chest, burning its way up and making her lips quiver: flashes of their friendship flying through her mind at neck brake speed. Hugs, kisses on cheeks, laughter, Lena’s eyes when she spotted Kara across a room, the smell of Lena’s hair.
But as the first sob shook her body, she felt something.
Two hands cupping her cheeks, thumbs softly wiping away tears, arms pulling her into a hug, lips kissing her hair.
The warm, familiar smell of Lena invaded her senses and felt like a blanket of comfort and safety.
Lena’s breath on her ear and neck as Lena whispered softly into Kara’s hair.
“Don’t cry, shh, it’s ok. I’m here Kara. It’s ok love, I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”
As Kara relaxed and took a deep shaky breath Lena pulled back to look at her, her hands still holding on to Kara’s shoulders.
“Kara, darling. I love you. I care for you so much. You are my favorite person. So even if I cannot love you back that way, and I wish I could, I really do. But even though I can’t love you the way you want, I would never leave you. I couldn’t bear to lose you. I am so sorry Kara, I am so sorry if I have made you think—. But I hope you can understand it wasn’t intentional, ever. I just- you confuse me. I don’t know how to- I had sworn to never trust anyone ever again, and you barged in and broke through all of my walls with a battering ram. Kara I don’t know how, but I couldn’t stop myself from loving you even if I tried. And believe me, I have tried. But I cannot love you like that. I can’t.”
Kara dropped her eyes and breathed in, composing herself.
“I know, I understand. I’m sorry Lena I shouldn’t have—“ And with that her eyes dart up to Lena’s face, a sad grimace crossing Kara’s before she takes Lena’s hands in hers, removing them from her shoulders, and looking Lena in the eyes.

“I am sorry I overstepped your boundaries.”
And with a soft squeeze Kara drops Lena’s hands, looking into her eyes one more time before turning on her heel and walking out of the room. The door swings closed behind her.
It isn’t until the click of the lock that Lena realizes she’s gone.

3,6, and 17 please for the ask game
3. what work are you the most proud of (regardless of kudos or hits)
some things you just can't speak about - my fic about what actually happened to lena at the lake, and the time in between losing her mom and being adopted by the luthors. i genuinely think this is the best thing i've ever written and i'm just so proud of it.
tied with this is one single thread of gold aka high school au. this was the first multi chapter fic i've completed in SO long and i'm still so proud of how it turned out!! this universe (including the sequel) is my favorite one i've ever created
6. favorite title you've used
again, a sucker for 'one single thread of gold'. it's a lyric from the song invisible string by taylor swift - the full line is "one single thread of gold tied me to you"
it reminds me so much of supercorp and the fact that in every universe, they're always connected & meant to find each other
17. favorite character to write this year?
i already said lena lol so this time i'll say sam. i've never really explored her before high school au but the deeper i dig into her character, the more i love her and find SO much depth in her. the cw really did her dirty

Elizabeth Lail has had an eventful first five years in Hollywood. After graduating from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in the spring of 2014, Lail quickly landed the role of Anna (based on the Frozen character) on ABC’s Once Upon a Time. From there, Lail wasted no time as she became a finalist to play Kara Danvers/Supergirl on CBS’ Supergirl.
-Hollywood Reporter
HELLOOO??/?/?//// EXCUSE ME?/??/?/
YOU MEAN SHE COULDVE BEEN THE ONE TO HAVE INTENSE HOMOEROTIC “FRIENDSHIP” WITH KATIE MCGRATH’S LENA LESBIAN LUTHOR??/?////// but also like, if you ignore the insane ship that is Supercorp. Supergirl kinda like. Sucked. 💀💀💀 which is tragic because why the hell were Melissa Benoist and Katie McGrath staring at each other as if they wanted to collide faces every time they were in the same room.
two hyperfixations colliding in the most unexpected way possible

20 questions for fic writers
Thanks for the tag, @lilolilyr!
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
135 fics total!
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?
2,436,430 words (jfc hahah)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Ever? Listing them in vague order of when I started writing for them: Supergirl, Wynonna Earp, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Grace and Frankie, This Way Up, Once Upon a Time, Madre Solo hay Dos (just on Tumblr), Abbott Elementary, Hacks, and Julia
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
ALL of them are Supergirl from back in the early-ish days of the show when it was a pretty massive (by femslash standards, I suppose) and very active fandom! It's actually so interesting seeing how absolutely nothing I've written in more than half a decade even shows up, since I've largely switched to smaller fandoms since then.
But the top 5 fics by kudos are:
Stronger Together, a collection of one-shots for various Supergirl ships (with a few gen fics mixed in), which has nearly 5k kudos (WILD to me as someone now in a fandom with maybe 25 people total haha)
Welcome to the Gayborhood, my first ever fic, a looong Sanvers and Supercorp professor AU that still keeps the alien/supernatural elements of canon
6,500 miles away...but getting closer, a Sanvers epistolary fic that my wife and I actually co-wrote and posted 1 letter/email per day every day for many months
Noise Complaint, a Sanvers next-door neighbor AU that, hilariously, given its placement in the top 5 here, is what catalyzed a series of events that led to me very much leaving the fandom (and fandom writ large for nearly a year)
Supercat Sanvers 2020, a Sanvers and Supercat political AU that was maybe one of the last long-form works I wrote before moving out of DC!
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I really try to! Sometimes if it's from a person I know well, I end up responding via DMs, esp if there are questions about what comes next, plotting elements, etc., that I don't necessary want everyone to see while the fic is still being posted, but mostly I try to respond on AO3. I've gotten a bit worse in the past few years just because I'll manage to eke out a bit of time to write, which puts me behind on my work, and then I don't leave myself time to respond, and by the time I DO have time, it feels awkwardly late to do so. But even if I don't respond, I absolutely love/cherish/adore/etc. every single kind comment I've ever been given <3
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Forgoten, but not Gone - a Sanvers amnesia AU set post-breakup that's heavy on the angst with a rather ambiguous ending. I got talked into writing a part 2 that resolves the angst haha, but taken on it's own it's definitely my angstiest ending!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Huh idk! Most of my fics end on fairly happy, if a bit open, endings. I'm not a big fan of having all the loose ends tied up, and I realllyyyy don't do the marriage/2 kids/white picket fence epilogue, so I guess maybe the political AU has to be up there because it actually envisions a world where a queer woman wins the presidency on a progressive platform, and that feels rather utopian 🙃
8. Do you get hate on fic?
Not in a while, though I used to back in the days, like super vitriolic shit (big fandoms with too-big emotions, man... which has really kept me away maybe forever from those kinds of fandoms!)
9. Do you write smut?
Haha very much so. I've written and posted before about why, but I really believe there's so much interesting character work and exploration that can be done by exploring characters' pleasures, their desires (both thwarted and realized), their fantasies, etc. Obviously smut isn't the only way to do this, but fanfic feels like one of the few venues where it's a real possibility!
10. Do you write crossovers?
Nah, not really. I've written a handful of bring characters x and y into the universe of another show fics, but that feels mostly different. Every so often I'll borrow vague character outlines for tertiary characters in other fics just to see if folks recognize them (had Grace Hanson as a grumpy background character in a Sanvers fic set at PT for instance hah)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Once or twice, but we got them taken down
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yeah, one of my SG fics was translated into Russian! I'm not sure if it's still up (tbh I can't recall which one; it's been a long time!) I've also had a couple podfics now made of my fics, one of which I still need to go listen to when I get the time!!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeah! The long-form Sanvers epistolary fic my wife and I co-wrote together, and a group of Supercat authors got together and did a delightfully chaotic round robin, each writing one sentence, then setting a timer for the next person to write the next sentence, etc., until we had Intergalactic Standard Cuddling
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Oh man, I really don't know that I have a favorite! I really appreciate what various ships can offer me at different times - there are certain themes that make sense to explore with one pairing but not at all with another, or certain AUs that work in one fandom but not really in another. Basically, if a show is giving me multiple female characters who interact in canon in ways that go beyond existing near each other, I'm intrigued, and if these characters actually get depth and complexity, I'm probably in! There are, however, some ships that I might not end up feeling fannish/creative about even though I love them as ships (I talked a lot to @trying-to-get-somewhere-real about this recently, actually!), so it's hard to name a favorite when the metrics get all wonky!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?
I don't want to say never, but I have a Cat-centric fic that'll end on Supercat that just has a lot of angst that coincided with a period of unexpected loss and grief in my own life in ways that have made it really hard to get back into even now (it just feels so...enmeshed with that moment, even though the timing was utterly coincidental)
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I do a good job with dialogue and getting characters' voices down - I'm really into the character side of things (which is also what gets me invested fannishly in shows! I want a show that cares about developing their characters first and foremost vs. a show where plot takes priority)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Certain kinds of action scenes haha - also I tire easily of writing things that feel repetitive to things I've done/written before (this was more of an issue when I took prompts)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Largely, this isn't something I've had to deal with much outside of maybe a few phrases and sentences from multilingual characters. I've talked before about how it was actually the language/translation barrier that kept me from writing for Madre Solo hay Dos. I don't speak Spanish, and getting a show entirely via the Netflix-provided translations meant 1) I was fairly certain there were some word choice/dialect peculiarities I was missing, and 2) I couldn't catch the rhythms of their speech, the cadence of their voices at least in ways that corresponded to the specific words. For me, voice matters so much, and it really felt like a barrier to not have access to the source language because I felt like I couldn't do these two women justice!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Supergirl
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Oh I've answered this elsewhere with 2-3 works, and tbh I don't think it's changed since then! I'm actually far more interested in others' favorite fics of mine because it's so interesting to think about the question of *what* sticks with a person from yours (it's often so idiosyncratic!!)
I'm getting to this pretty late, so I won't tag anyone, assuming many people already have been, but if ya see this and want to participate, feel free to give me a tag! I always love seeing people talk about their own writing :)
