okay!! so, favorite super paper roblox characters.

tess and scriptliss, lol. hands down, no competition. realistically this is just another case of me getting attached to tragic characters on sight, but look. their story is one of the most compelling parts of this entire game. is it poorly executed like everything else in this entire game? yep. is it still really, really interesting? oh yes. absolutely.

aside from my "immediate attachment" characters though, i've actually been also really liking dusekkar, lanter, and wiscara as of late.

as for least favorite characters...

i don't think i unironically dislike any of the spr characters in a "i am genuinely annoyed / uncomfortable / mad when you're on screen" kind of way. like, sure, aristris is terrible as a person and i wouldn't want anything to do with him irl, but i also think he's really funny. i just think he reasonably should've gone to jail at the end of the game.

i guess i might kind of dislike cogen. i don't hate him, but i skip most of his early chapter 8 dialogue 'cause it's just a bunch of information dumping that is hard to grasp and really doesn't make sense to be coming from him.

my thing about cogen is he's supposed to be a piece of scriptiss's soul, but he's basically just used as another aaron o'naare, and as a result of that decision he knows way more than he logically should.

if cogen is a piece of scriptliss, then he should know what scriptliss knows and nothing else imo. it's fine if he still has a different personality. he could be a facet of scriptliss's personality he doesn't show much, or an exaggerated version of it. but it does not make sense for him to be the bearer of all knowledge.

Wiscara accidentally autobally gasps, having Scriptless cover her mouth for a second as the Unfallen and Fallen Harmonian looks over and sees the two. “...Heyyy….” Wiscara tried playing it off. “How much have you heard?” Base Cleph asked. “Just the last pa-” “All of it.” Scriptess interrupted. Silence was all that was among the group before Reverend placed a hand on Base Cleph’s shoulder, “don’t fight them, Junior, I think it’s about time for others now too.” “I wasn’t.” Reverend walked up to the other two. “Well, since you two are here. You won’t need to be ‘hunted down’ to tell you that it would be best to head to The Texture Temble. Junior will have the directions.” “uh, the- what?” Wiscara asked, “You never…” Base Cleph interjected before Reverend tapped his palm his finger twice, making Base Cleph’s palm to feel a tingling sting. “?!” Like a hot pen on paper. “just follow the directions and meet some of the others there, Otempes, Boxria, and I will be there in a bit.” Before anyone could get another word in, Reverend went back into the church.

Wiscara and Scriptless walked up to Base Cleph, who was staring at his palm with a confused look. “Why did that feel familiar…” they can hear him whisper to himself, before he composes himself. As the group came to the area behind the Sforzando Spire, they found Dusekkar, Lanter, and Antagon at what looked like a small landslide collapsed on a cave opening. “Ah, you’re finally here,” Dusekkar said. “What is this??” Wiscara asked, which Lantern also turned to her. “It’s what connects us to the rest of Paper Robloxia. This cave has since been closed by the guardians of balance and Dusekkar, along with other ways to other parts of the land, after a great war to prevent it from happening again.”  Dusekkar looked back at the caved-in cave, “We should have blocked off the Banlands as well, but that would have made the dimensional balance go off”. “So you called us here to help?” Scriptliss asked. “More or less. Sense there are now at least five magic users here, while preferred to have the two actually in the GoB to be here. Wiscara, Base Cleph, you two mind lending a hand?” Lantern answered while providing a request. Wiscara and Base Cleph nods, with Wiscara getting out one of her magical scissors.

“Can we finally do this now?” Antagon asks, kinda whiningly, the tracts of his bored child steps lightly smoked at the burned gray grass. Duskkar nodded. The five magic users position themselves to where their points make a pentagram star. Their magic collects in the center as they focus their power on the cave entrance. As Duskkar moved his right hand above the open plot book and twisted his wrist counter clockwise, the broken cave got reverted back to its original form. The spell finishes with the cluster of power slamming into the cave mid reversion. “Woah.” Scriptliss, Antagon, and Wiscara said dumbfounded. “Alright, it’s open.” Dusskkar looked back towards the robloxian, harmonian, and immortal. “follow the straight path and we’ll be in Vellum. There we need to head to the knight’s guild, the third guardian is there.” “Shouldn’t we wait for the others?” Scriptliss asked. “The others have somewhere else to be at the moment, they’ll meet up with us later”. Antagon lit the way as the group went through. ______________________________________________________________

Wiscara and Scriptliss noticed Base Cleph seemed less unkempt than usual, so they went closer to him to check up on him. “Hey, Base-man, are you doing okay?” Wiscara asked. “Huh? Oh yeah. I’m just trying to figure out something. It feels like I’ve been here before, you know the closer we get to Vellum.” “hm… I get what you mean,” Scriptliss stated, “I’ve had that feeling back when we were traveling between dimensions. Especially the feeling I’ve been somewhere with… Tess…” “Yeah… that feeling too, but I can’t pin who they are.” as they talk, Wiscara notice Duskkar look back at them slightly for a moment. Not in a suspicious side eye though, more like a knowing side eye.

📝 Editorial: Text-to-Video Games and 1-Bit Models: Two Monumental Generative AI Research Milestones in One Week

Every week, there is an avalanche of research papers pioneering new techniques in generative AI, but only a tiny percentage of those papers contain contributions that are truly going to push the boundaries of the space. Last week was exceptional in terms of published papers, with two that could have a remarkable impact on the next few years of generative AI.

Text to Games with Genie

Google DeepMind continues to challenge our imagination when it comes to generative AI. Last week, the research lab unveiled Genie, a generative model that can create a playable 2D video game from a text description, a sketch, or a photo. What makes Genie remarkable is its ability to learn fine-grained controls while being trained solely on videos. This is remarkable because videos typically don’t include labels for actions being performed on them. Genie not only learns the actions from video sequences but also variations of these actions that are applicable to the same environment. Amazing!

Genie is in the super early stages, but its impact can be profound. From simulations and gaming to robotics, the ability to generate interactive environments can become one of the next frontiers for generative AI.

1-Bit LLMs

Computational and memory costs are some of the biggest roadblocks to the adoption of LLMs. Techniques such as quantization can improve inference time but often sacrifice accuracy. Recently, a team of researchers from Microsoft and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences proposed an architecture called BitNet that uses an extreme form of quantization called a 1-bit model as a way to improve cost efficiency without sacrificing performance. Last week, the team doubled down and proposed a variant of the original BitNet called BitNet b1.58, which provides additional gains in cost-effectiveness, memory, latency, and throughput. BitNet b1.58 accomplishes this by using a structure that can represent the weights and parameters of the model using only 1.58 bits instead of the typical 16-bit representation of most LLMs.

The implications of BitNet b1.58 in generative AI can be quite significant. The new architecture can open the door to scaling the training and inference of LLMs using commodity hardware, and, if nothing else, the performance increases in current architectures should be notable.

Both Genie and the 1-Bit LLM represent major research milestones in areas that were deemed impossible a few months ago. The pace of research in generative AI is breathtaking. Amazing times.

Paper Mario TTYD Remake and Super Mario RPG Remake - interested but not super interested. They're good games. But I'm more interested in other things right now, but the fact that they're coming out means a lot of people will get to play them which is great.

Detective Pikachu Returns - I forget right now if it's a sequel or a port but either way I enjoyed OG's 3DS demo so I'm invested.

F-Zero 99 - Not something I'll play because I'm stingy about subscriptions but the idea is terrifying and cool. 99 racers on one track. Time to Redline it up, baby.

Another Code - I'm gonna admit I've only tried Trace Memory via a laggy emulated rom because it wasn't something I ever saw in stores around here. I'm very very interested in it so I'm excited. Its not just the first game remade but also the sequel too.

Unicorn Overlord - Bizarre name, pretty artwork, fantastic looking RPG. I'm down for it. Kind of has a Fire Emblem / Ogre feel.

Luigi's Mansion 2 - I've not actually played the series since faintly remembered OG because I was a coward and thought it was a scary game. I want to bust these ghosts.

Princess Peach 2 - Hell yeah. Thankfully the power isn't ELEMENTAL EMOTIONS again because you would not believe the amount of "Super PMS Peach" jokes I herd around when that came out but damn her powerup outfits look nice.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - I've been interested in this for a while. I got the tech demo prequel on PC and let me say, it's a solid game. Plot's a little dumb but I had fun.

Playstation State of Play hypes:

Ghostrunner 2, although I'm more interested in it on PC.

Spider-Man 2 - Got to try the first game thanks to a friend and while I'm still debating on getting it and Miles on PC, I'm still low key terrified of picking up another open world game anytime soon.

FF7R Part 2 - I'm still waiting for FF7R: Complete Edition a-la StarCraft 2 but damn it looks good. (Also who's bright idea was it to put what looks like Costa Del Sol Cloud on a segwey? I'm still laughing at that.)

Roblox for PS5... ... okay I'm gonna admit, I laughed seeing that fact.

Lies of P - still a bizarrely cool concept but not sure if I'm overly invested in it.

Xbox... while my family never bought into the console wars, let's face it: what's on Xbox can easily be on other things so I don't really pay much attention to it.

PC:

Sonic Superstars - big maybe, but with how Frontiers is actually pretty good I might give it a shot too.

Like a Dragon - Well... so far I have 0 and 4 on PC. I don't need either Dragon right now because each one will be a significant investment.

Dungeons 4 - ... the series is still being made? Cool!

Long Gone Days - It's got a (hopefully 100% confirmed) release date! After the occasional updates to the build. Nice.

World of Horror - I thought this was dead!
