No housing, no benefits, barely enough to buy food and pay rent in a shitty little apartment.” The air around them starts to grow cold, the floor of Villains United’s hideout frosting over. “They made fun of me, mocked me for being poor and less useful than Master Cold.”

“Damn that asshole, Master Cold. Hate that guy.” Speedy mumbled off to the side.

“We accept your request to join, Flash-Freeze. Welcome to Villains United.” The Lord announced. Flash-Freeze nodded, to the villains.

“You have to ask?” Void Courier said sarcastically.

“Oh. Right, I’m going to make some changes to my costume. Let me know when I’m needed, and if it involves The Super, he’s mine.” Flash-Freeze states.

The group all murmured in agreement. Flash-Freeze walked out of the room and into their new chambers, pulling out their sewing equipment and getting to work. A few days later, Void Courier knocked on their door.

“Hey, we’re going on a heist in The Super’s city, The Lord thought you should know.”

The door opened slowly, inside the room was dark. A blast of cold, frigid air blew out, sending a chill down Void Courier’s spine. Flash-Freeze stepped out in their new costume. Their black cloak put over their shoulders, rapped around them, their former insignia on the back, slashed to ribbons. A mask covered their face, made to look like a frozen skull, and on their back sat an executioner’s sword.

As The Super approached the bank, he took notice that everyone inside the bank at the time was left unharmed. The inside of the building, however, was covered in ice and frost, and it was nearly cold enough to make him actually shiver. That wasn’t right, he was invincible to anything except dysprosium! (Real metal, look it up!) The only other thing that ever made him shiver was-

He just barely was able to move out of the way of the executioner’s sword swinging at his neck as someone in a black cloak and frozen skull mask brought it down.

“Wow, you nearly got the drop on me! Good one, nice attempt!” He said smugly, getting no response out of the figure. “Aww, c’mon, you’re clearly a villain, I’m a hero, we’re supposed to do the whole banter thing.” The air got colder as he finished his sentence, and the figure turned and ran towards the vault. The Super’s eyes went wide when he saw the back of the figure’s cloak, it was Flash-Freeze’s insignia.. the League of Heros thought they had gone on a trip to visit family, had they been ambushed and killed by this new villain? They were always the weakest members of the of the group after all. He didn’t really care if they died or not, but for his public image, he couldn’t let them get away with it without punishment.

He flew towards the vault, the air getting even colder as he punched through the ice covered vault door. In the vault stood the figure, along with The Lord and Technomancer, every box and stack of money in the vault was gone.

“You’re too late, Super! You lose!” Technomancer announced proudly.

“And now you’re outnumbered, surrender.” The lord spoke calmly. The third figure stood staring in silence, their executioner’s sword in their hand.

“Who’s your new friend, Lord? And where’s Flash-Freeze?” He asked with a false rage behind his voice.

“Why, they’re right here!” The Lord gestured towards the figure, a smug smile appearing on his face as the figure put their hood down. As they took of the mask, Super’s face turned to shock, and then instantly switched to true anger.

“No! That can’t be real! That’s a clone!”

“You would expect that, wouldn’t you?” Flash-Freeze angrily growled. “You may trick the public and the rest of the league, but you always showed your true self around me. And now, your weaknesses have been exposed to the world because you refused to show any kindness to me.”

The air in the vault grew even colder, Lord and Technomancer started to move, Super never noticed as they exited the vault. He was just staring angrily at Flash-Freeze.

“I know a weakness you have that not even you know of. One you instinctively fear.” They snapped, and the air around Super didn’t quite freeze, as much as it became a solid. Super felt as every molecule in him suddenly stopped all motion. It was a quite strange feeling, not cold as much as it felt like nothing at all. It felt as if all his senses became null as his body became encased in solid air.

“You can’t hear me, but you are now in absolute zero temperatures. Everything in you has stopped, the air around you has become a solid, as well as the air inside of you, your blood, your stomach acid, and every other bodily fluid.” Flash-Freeze spoke, Super heard nothing. He didn’t see anything, he didn’t feel anything, taste anything. He was alive and existing, but completely unable to even think.

Flash-Freeze put their cloak up and their mask back on as they picked up The Super and carried him outside. They threw him to the ground in front of the camera crew filming the heist.

“I have an announcement for the world. I am Absolute, I will talk what I want, when I want. The Super was too weak to fight me, give me an actual challenge next time.” Absolute said directly at the camera, as they took out their sword, and beheaded The Super. He never felt it as he died. He didn’t even bleed.

Episode 18 of The Flash (90s edition) involves cloning somehow. And a clone of Barry specifically. Very interested :D

Oooh, they're trying to recreate the Flash's powers, whoever these guys are. And they seem to be succeeding... until the guy goes too fast and vibrates out of existence. Whoops.

They are, of course, more upset over the failed experiment than the dead guy, as evil scientists do. Well, one of them anyway.

They're trying to create super couriers and delivery boys. So I guess at least they're not trying to make super soldiers? Anyway, they decide they can make their speedy bois work if they use the Flash's DNA as the base for their clones. I mean, sure, why not, what could possibly go wrong with this highly unethical experiment of theirs?

Barry - I'm fine. Tina - You're burning out Barry. Over stressed. Slow down or I'm gonna make you shelve even more books.

She lists out a bunch of stuff he's done and he's like 'oh, yeah, totally not overdoing it'. And he's patched into 911. Tina's gonna throttle him, if he stays still long enough. :D

And of course, because Barry is too stressed and making mistakes, he gets hurt and bleeds the viscous faux-blood of Hollywood that the evil scientists need to make a replica of the Flash. Somehow the replica starts off as a baby out of nowhere and grows super fast to Barry's current age, hitting a few milestones on camera first. Also his hair is perfectly barbered the entire time. And he's well shaved.

Tina continues to tell Barry he needs to get sleep and practice self care. Barry continues to go 'but I'm a speedy boi who must save people'.

Clone Barry has the mind of a child trapped in the body of an adult with super powers. And... oh no, evil scientist is going into soldier making territory after all. Poor clone Barry. Oooh, they name him Pollux.

Evil scientist - fast as you can stack the blocks. Pollux - *stacks blocks slowly* *the blocks keep falling* *throws temper tantrum and finally taps into his speed*

and of course they don't see the temper tantrum as a bad sign. *sigh* evil scientists, what can ya do.

Barry's stress is now affecting his work as a CSI and he's starting to admit that he's being a bit childish and snappy over things.

Meanwhile Pollux has his blue suit now and he wants to go outside to play. Whether he gets permission or not. Aww, he found a playground. but the kids there don't wanna play. So he starts play on his own, of course right as Barry comes by with Tina. Time to meet the Clone Kiddo. :D

Evil scientists are not subtle, yet no one notices them tranq gun Pollux and drag him off. In plain sight. And now one of them is freaking out because he thinks Pollux is too smart and they should kill him. The other one? "I'm gonna sell him and factory manufacture more." And now Pollux is having an existential crisis. Poor guy.

Evil scientist - I'm gonna dehumanize you because i find you annoying. This will definitely not immediately bite me and my work partner on the ass. Pollux - I'm leaving.

So one of them tries to stop him and Pollux spins the guy to death. Looks dead, anyway. Scares the hell out of the other one. Then he heads out on the town to shop lift clothes and experience the real world. Apparently enough time has passed that the guy he killed has been reported in the newspaper.

Pollux has a crush on Tina. (Just like Barry does.) Aww. He's gonna bring her flowers.

Remaining evil scientist meets Barry Allen while shredding documents, immediately looks like a deer in the headlights because he thinks he's Pollux at first. Immediately starts lying about shit when he realizes that he's actually talking to the Flash. Barry steals the shredded documents and plays his organization game to put the papers back together.

Tina meets her new admirer. gets some pretty flowers. A lot of pretty flowers. She's like 'I'm gonna call Barry now'.

Pollux isn't evil, he's just so confused and wants to know who he is. And now he thinks he can become Barry and take over Barry's life. Too bad Barry didn't lead with the angle 'we're brothers now'. He might have gotten through to the guy that way. As Tina points out a little later, Pollux is basically an abused child.

It is eerie though, seeing Pollux go through Barry's lab and home, trying to restyle himself into his idea of who and what Barry is.

Pollux decides to go fetch his blue suit. And get a little revenge on the remaining evil scientist. Evil scientist shoots at Pollux who catches the bullet and throws it back.

Pollux makes it pretty clear he doesn't care who gets hurt while he learns to control his powers. Cue a fight between the Flashes in front of a mural of people in gas masks. It's weird. Then it turns out the evil scientist isn't 100% dead yet, tries to shoot Barry who has grown slow from over tiring himself... and Pollux saves Barry. At the cost of his own life. Tragic death scene... and then Pollux's body vibrates it's self out of existence, leaving behind a garishly blue suit.

A tragedy all around. *sniff* And it finally drives home for Barry that he needs to stop stressing himself out and live his life more carefully, just like Tina's been telling him. Lesson learned.

I do feel bad for Pollux. He was basically an overgrown toddler who no one bothered to teach compassion to. It's not really clear why he saved Barry - because there was a spark of Barry's need to save people? Or because Pollux genuinely couldn't understand that he and Barry were different people and registered the threat to Barry as a threat to himself?

My gosh that suit was really blue, though. Wow.

Random Sonic Forces headcanons

Cream, Vanilla, and Gemerl are part of the Resistance, they just weren’t shown onscreen. Cream and Vanilla are medics in the army, so they stay off the frontlines. Vanilla especially forbid Cream from fighting on the battlefield. Gemerl is one of the troops, he just was fighting offscreen with Espio.

Blaze was caught up in her own dimension shenanigans along with Marine and that’s why she wasn’t in Forces. 

The Resistance didn’t track down and use the Chaos Emeralds due to how long it would take to find them as well as not having enough resources to spare in finding them. Besides that only 5 people total in the world are capable of even accessing their powers and only one of them (Silver) was physically and mentally capable of fighting and using them. (Sonic being captured/presumed dead, Knuckles currently being commander, Tails in the middle of a breakdown, Shadow appearing to be on the side of the enemy.) Plus trying to locate them might have drawn the attention of Eggman, who has more resources and manpower to track them down and they didn’t want to give Eggman another advantage besides the Phantom Ruby. 

Sonic was in charge of a team of troops named the “Swifts” or “Sonic’s Swifts” made of the fastest and agile in the army who got their name by making quick, smash and grab moves and tactics. He’s sorta a father/big brother figure to them. 

Angel Island is one of the Resistance's headquarters and best defended locations. Many refugees were taking shelter there during the war. It was a last resort location to retreat to should Eggman crush all of the other bases. 

 Sonic’s torture consisted of copious amounts of waterboarding and electrical torture, besides just being left in a cramped cell alone, for months on end.

Silver was the second in command of the Resistance. 

GUN was heavily demolished in the time skip after Sonic’s capture. They were caught off guard and did try to preemptively stop Eggman afterwards, but failed. The few remnants left work in tandem with the Resistance, with Rouge (and later Shadow) as their liaison. 

The Resistance has both humans and anthros in its ranks.

Fang the Sniper was hired by Eggman during the war to be his go-to assassin, paid handsomely to shoot down any high ranking Resistance members.

Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Polar Bear were helpers of the Resistance. Bean even became their main expert on explosives and munitions. 

The Babylon Rogues semi-worked for the Resistance as couriers/scouts, using their Extreme Gear, to dodge, evade, and briskly deliver information back to base. They didn’t like Eggman taking over the world and obviously didn’t want to become robot slaves in his empire, but they weren’t super patriotic about the Resistance and were mostly in it for themselves. 

The ships the Resistance uses were actually stolen from Eggman’s fleet and repainted. 

Infinite’s real name is Zero. 

The Battle Kukku Empire fought against Eggman for awhile before being forced to surrender. The Great Battle Kukku XV arranged a pact of surrender with the doctor and agreed to supply his soldiers and forces to fight in the Empire in exchange for not being robotomized and keeping their free will. Speedy worked secretly as a mole for the Resistance, smuggling information to them during this time, hoping his onetime rival Tails would receive it and help free his people and country.

There were other robot designs used in the war, we just didn’t see them.

Metal Sonic was actually involved in the war, the times we saw him just happened to be the illusion copies.  

All of the Deadly Six are dead. Chaos is also still “dead”, having ascended to the afterlife with Tikal at the end of SA1. 

 Honey the Cat worked with Amy in communications trying to give hope to the world’s and Resistance’s discouraged masses. Together they created “Radio Free Rose”, the voice of the Resistance for anyone to tune into for survival advice and directions to the nearest Resistance refugee camps. 

Witchcart and her minions, Bearenger, Focke, and Carrotia were in Eggman’s Empire as part of his Egg Fleet. 

Eggman and Infinite’s final plan for the destruction for the Resistance was called “Operation Sunny Side Down”. 

Eggman’s army had humans and anthros besides the illusion copies.

Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel were Resistance members, both fighting on the frontline as well as providing aid to the many camps for refugees fleeing Eggman occupation. 

Many wisps joined the Resistance freely to provide their power to the Wsipons, but some were forcibly captured and extracted of energy to give ammo to the wispons. Some Wisps were even forcibly corrupted into Void Wisps to produce the requisite energy for the Void wispon. A dark secret many higher ups in the Resistance try to ignore or hide out of shame. 

There are other Wispons besides Burst, Lightning, Cube, Void, Hover, White, Drill, and Asteroid. We just don’t see them since the other Resistance members are using them. 

There was an offscreen fight between Sonic and Infinite where Infinite pulled out his sword (called the “Forever Edge”) and attacked Sonic with it in a sword fight to the death. Sonic barely manages to survive it and escape using his sword fighting skills he gained from the Arthurian legends. . 

All of the other species in the concept art were involved in the war, including the dragons. We just didn’t play as them. 

The Avatar (or at least Buddy/Gadget) was born and raised in Sunset Heights/”the City”. 

Eggman Nega is the ruler of the world in the far future, Ivo Robotnik having made a dynasty of the Robotnik family line. This is one of the reasons why Silver travels back in time. 

Shadow is now pretty widely hated and has bad publicity in the world due to the copies of him being seen causing havoc in the world for 6 months. 

The Post-Forces section:

The war for the planet would go down in history as either the “Egg War”, or the “Phantom War” .The battle that finally took down Infinite and Eggman in the Eggman Empire Fortress outside the Imperial Tower is called “The Battle of Mortar Canyon” 

There is a manhunt for Eggman and Infinite after the war which every government in the world is a part of. Though they’re probably hiding out in a remote cave somewhere in Shamar, or at least Eggman is. 

Besides going out to see the world as per usual, Sonic also left to search out and help rebuild other settlements across the globe. Part of this is an attempt to keep his mind preoccupied and off the crushing sense of guilt for all of this happening in the first place from not being able to stop Eggman and Infinite the first time as well as serving as an escape from his mental traumas from the war/his time as a POW. 

Therapy. Lots and lots of therapy happens for those involved in the war. Sonic tries to ignore his mental trauma and hide his issues from the rest but they know better and basically drag him kicking and screaming to group talks among themselves on how to deal with everything they’ve seen and faced and how to deal with them in a healthy way to start healing. He eventually appreciates them doing this and how much they care about his physical and mental health although he never outright tells them so. 

The field of robotics takes a huge blow in reception to the public due to what Eggman did and many now choose different fields of study and research while the people in the field are now looked at with suspicion towards them and their creations.  

The top brass of the Resistance receive medals of honor after the war, along with several soldiers who went above and beyond the call of duty.

But having this business is essential to me for both financial and mental reasons. I can't help but feel selfish even thinking of all this when the whole world is dealing with the repercussions of an ongoing pandemic, but I need to do something that doesn't involve watching it all unfold and feeling alternately numb and fearful. I registered with an online courier pickup service last week in order to fulfill a recent commission so this is the service I'll be using for the immediate future. It's not ideal but not much is right now. life before hwarang: 

It was a picturesque, starry night that no one involved was able to appreciate, given the screaming newborn, cold winter temperatures and lack of a roof for the night. A young couple sat in the backseat of their beaten up Kia Spectra, heat on blast for comfort and a spread of simple, fairly tasteless rice cakes between the two adults. The tiny family didn’t seem to have much to be grateful for. The young man, whose handsome face glowed in the direction of his wife under the soft dome lights, had lost his job a good two months before the baby came. The small dingy apartment the two had been renting was no longer affordable for them, and the landlord didn’t have much patience for their misfortune. They’d been forced to relocate to their car for the time being.

When the baby was born, a daughter they’d named Hwaseol, they were in an even tighter spot. They had a brief refuge at the hospital, but once the facility caught wind of the fact that they wouldn’t be able to pay, they forced the young couple to leave with their baby. Things were getting desperate, and they didn’t know what they were going to do. But somehow, on that night, they could still look each other in the eye and know that they would make it out somehow.

That was the kind of determination Hwaseol was surrounded by over the first few years of her life. Her father worked whatever petty job he came across just to feed her and her mother, sometimes even going without, himself. She knew she had to do something to help. She did small errands at shops around Seoul for a few won here and there, whatever she could do to help her parents get by. She didn’t want like most of children. She knew never to ask for anything, whether or not it was actually discouraged by her parents, which it usually wasn’t.

She eventually charmed her way into a courier job for Flower of Youth (the shop clerk actually just felt sorry for her). It seemed like a simple tea and pastry shop, but they were really particular about their mail. But hey, Hwaseol wasn’t about to stare a gift horse in the mouth. 

how they got recruited: 

A Tae-Kwon-Do instructor who was a frequent patron of Flower of Youth soon enlisted her to do some housekeeping at his small training studio on the same street, an offer she happily accepted. She couldn’t even imagine how happy her father would be. Hwaseol coincidentally happened to be cleaning during many of the training sessions. It was mostly children and teenagers like her, but there were the occasional adults attending the class. It was truly fascinating to watch, the way their bodies zoomed into impossible positions, arms and legs almost whistling from speedy movements.

Hwaseol was hooked on observing the classes, even mimicking their movements in what she thought was solitude. The instructor noted her interest, however. He also noted her precision in reenacting the things she saw in front of her with very little training.

It was at that point that her life changed forever. The instructor revealed himself to be a senior member of an organization known as Hwarang, an intelligence outfit tasked with independently protecting the citizens of South Korea, outside the government’s control. He had established the school as a cover to find people with true potential to recruit into the agency. He’d never expected to stumble upon one of his most shining recruits that year quite this way. Hwaseol was floored by the information, but her adventurous spirit and curious mind was once again leading her. She wanted in.

To her delight, the instructor formally extended an offer to begin her training to become a full fledged agent of Hwarang. It was a hard fought, tedious process that cost her many nights of sleep. She excelled in the combat portions, but struggled with technology. At times, she wanted to just wake up anywhere else on Earth just so that she wouldn’t have to see another day of training. But finally, finally, the day came where she received her code name: Dahlia. She was sorted into the field agent track due to her skills in combat and stealth movements, which is where she happily resides today.

personality ( optional ): 

Much like the dahlia flower’s meaning, Hwaseol is adventurous, has an inner strength that could level a mountain, is very kindhearted and committed to keeping her promises. 

She’s also a bit of a technophobe, as she didn’t grow up with much in the way of electronics. She gets wigged out by super advanced devices and is always griping about how extra they are. Honestly though? She’s just a bit embarrassed of how little she knows about it and how flustered trying to use these things makes her.

She really enjoys play fighting or sparring, so if she befriends you or likes you in any way, she’ll probably invite you to do a lot of it. She also loves to practice her sneak attacks on unsuspecting co-workers so watch out for diving Hwaseols please.

Hwaseol doesn’t really enjoy talking about her childhood. As unfazed as she pretends to be, some of the ways her family suffered back then really get to her. She knows they’re taken care of now by the agency, but the memories of just how bad things got still keep her up at night.

She’d give her life for the agency, considering they saved it and her parents. Sometimes, this mindset results in her doing brave yet dumb things in the field. She’s been reprimanded a few times for running into dangerous situations alone or without proper briefing, but she’s getting a little better about actually listening.
