The sound of soft sniffling is what snapped (Y/n) out of her thoughts as she roamed the mushroom forest. Deep in the wilderness, far from civilization she was surprised to hear anyone, let alone someone so distraught. "Hello?" She called out softly, not wanting to scare the individual. Regardless she heard them hiccup in surprise, and audibly try stifling their tears. "It's alright, I'm not gonna hurt ya." She called out softly, peering around the base of a mushroom tree, finally spotting who she'd crossed paths with. "Oh my." She murmured at the sight of the one and only Bowser Jr. A pitiful frown tugging at her lips at the sight of him, as he frantically tried to stop his onslaught of tears. "My my what's wrong little one?" (Y/n) asked as she tentatively approached the young Koopa Prince, who glared at her with his beady black eyes, despite his tears. "Go away." He hissed at her, turning away when she sat beside him on a large toadstool. "You're a long ways from home little Prince." (Y/n) noted in a tender tone, keeping her hands folded in her lap.
"I said go AWAY!" He shouted, suddenly shaking as he tried to hold in his tears. "I'm not leaving." She argued in a calm voice, unwilling to leave him all alone out here. "Why!?" He hissed, still keeping his back to her, as he peered over his shoulder. "Because I would be remiss to just leave you out here all alone." She explained, smiling softly when he finally turned to face her. "Why do you care?" He murmured pitifully. "Why wouldn't I?" She wondered, not having any trifles with the young Koopa, despite knowing the mischief him, and his father get up to. The young Prince sat there quietly for a few short minutes, thinking to himself as he toiled with his fingers. "I'm lost." He finally admitted after a while, looking to the forest floor shamefully. "Oh you poor boy." (Y/n) cooed softly, offering a kind reassuring smile when he looked to her. "How about I help you get back home? I'm sure your father is worried sick." (Y/n) held out her hand, tilting her head a little to the side. "You'll help me?" Bowser Jr. asking in a small voice, looking so helpless in that moment. "Of course." (Y/n) assured, a surprised squeak escaping her when Jr. threw himself into her arms.
Effectively knocking her off the toadstool, and squashing her under his weight, despite being shorter than her. "Oof." She grunted before falling into a fit of giggles, while Jr. nuzzled his muzzle against her belly. "Thank you thank you thank you!" Jr. murmured into her dress, his words muffled slightly. "That tickles!" (Y/n) shouted through her giggles, snorting when he nuzzled against her one last time, before stilling and simply laying against her belly. (Y/n) pat his head affectionately as she calmed down from her giggling fit, her skin tingling a little bit from the tickling. "Alright alright." She brushed her hand over the top of his shell, coaxing him to get up. "We should be going, your father's castle is a long ways away." She explained as she stood to her feet, brushing off her skirt of any grass. Jr. nodded his head in excited agreement, bouncing on the balls of his feet. "Papa will be so happy!" Jr. beamed up at her, mirroring her smile. "Oh I'm sure he will be." (Y/n) agreed with the young Koopa Prince, turning in the direction of the Koopa kingdom.
---Back at the castle---
"WHERE IS HE!?!?" King Bowser yelled as he stormed out of his son's room, where he had been frantically searching for the Prince, making a small mess of the room, without actually destroying anything. "JR.!" He yelled in hopes that his boy was simply somewhere else in the castle. "Sire please." Kamek followed as best he could behind his King, who was storming through the castle so hurriedly, that the ground shook with every step. "I'm sure the Prince is around." Kamek tried to assure the King, but his words fell on deaf ears. "FIND HIM!" He yelled at his guards, who visibly jumped at the sound of his booming voice. "FIND HIM NOW!" Bowser yelled again, flames crawling up his throat, making him look nearly monstrous in that moment. The brigade of soldiers jumping to attention, and quickly marching off to do as he instructed. "They'll find him." Kamek assured, jumping a little when Bowser's attention suddenly snapped to him. "They better." Bowser growled, smoke bellowing from his flared nostrils, looking like a fierce dragon.
After several failed attempts to find Bowser Jr. the brigade nearly jumped with joy, at the sight of Bowser Jr. approaching from the distance. The captain rushed ahead of his platoon, being the first to approach the young Prince. "Prince Jr. your father has been looking everywhere for you!" He exclaimed not noticing the woman accompanying him. "I know I know!" Jr. brushed the captain off, still holding firmly onto (Y/n)'s hand, leading her to the castle. The brigade fell in line behind them, escorting them back, each of them breathing a silent breath or relief. "Papa papa!" Jr. Shouted as he entered the castle, his voice echoing through the large halls. "Jr.!" Bowser perked up at the sound of his son's voice, barreling out of the throne room and rushing down the hall. His heavy steps making the ground quake and the portraits on the walls rattle. "Oh goodness!" (Y/n) gasped softly trying to steady herself, as the large Koopa King practically sprinted towards the group. "Jr.!" Bowser shouted again at the sight of his son, his heart bursting with joy and relief. "Papa!" Jr. hollered in excitement, beyond happy to finally be reunited with his father.
The Koopa King swiftly snatched Jr. up into his arms, looking the young boy over for any potential injuries, pleased to find none. "Where have you been!?" Bowser exclaimed with worry still lacing his voice. "I got lost papa." Jr. explained, looking a bit sheepish, his fingers tugging at his bandanna. "Why did you leave the castle?" Bowser asked as he sat Jr. down, still not having noticed (Y/n), who waited patiently for them to talk before butting in. "Well I wanted... I wanted to..." Jr. looked even more sheepish. "Well I wanted to find you a present." Jr. told his father. "Why did you want to find me a present?" Bowser wondered. "Because you've been real sad since that last encounter with Mario and Princess Peach." Jr. explained, making Bowser flustered that he noticed his glum mood lately. "But I got lost, and then (Y/n) found me and brought me back home!" Jr. exclaimed excitedly, suddenly drawing Bowser's attention to the young woman standing a few feet away. "Hello." She waved to the King, before realizing her manners and bowing respectively. "King Bowser." She hummed as she bowed, her actions momentarily stunning the Koopa King.
"W-well hello there." Bowser stammered a little, immediately clearing his throat to cover up his stutter. "Papa this is (Y/n), she's real nice!" Jr. beamed as he wrapped his stubby little arms around her midsection in a hug. "Aw." (Y/n) cooed softly as she pet his head, her finger toiling in his crimson red hair for a moment. Bowser watched the interaction with a warm heart, already smitten with the young woman, as she interacted tenderly with his son. "He's a sweet boy." She mused as she looked up to Bowser, her face flushing a little at the sight of Bowser's heart shaped pupils. "Yeah." Bowser agreed in a soft tone, laying his hand against Jr.'s shell. "Papa can we keep her!?" Jr. exclaimed excitedly. "Now Jr.-" Bowser cut himself off when (Y/n) began to giggle at his son's words. "Oh Jr. you're precious." She praised as she affectionately pat his cheek. "Papa." Jr. looked to his father expectingly. "How about (Y/n) stays for dinner?" Bowser offered, not particularly wanting to mess things up with her by keeping her here against her will. As he's come to realize that never works in his favor the way he's wanted in the past. Jr. in turn quickly whipped around to peer up at (Y/n).
"Dinner sounds lovely." She agreed with a smile, feeling at ease with the Koopa Royals, despite knowing the mayhem they've caused for others. "Really?" Bowser gawked in surprise, quickly clearing his throat. "I mean... Of course it does!" He chuckled nervously, his heart melting at the sight of her smile. "Really really." (Y/n) hummed in response, giggling when Jr. hugged her tightly. "You could be my new mama!" Jr. beamed up at her, his tail wagging at the sight of her flushed expression. "Oh Jr." She giggled bashfully, peering up at Bowser shyly, not noticing how his tail was also shaking now. "You are sweet." She looked to Jr. again, surprised by how attached she already felt for the young Koopa. Jr. grabbed her hand and began tugging her towards the dining hall, Bowser following the pair with a spring in his step. "Come on come on let's eat!" The Prince hopped excitedly, making (Y/n) laugh. "Alright alright." She agreed through her laughter, looking back to find Bowser already smiling at her.
"Thank you (Y/n)." Bowser mused. "What for?" She asked as they entered the dining hall. "For bringing Jr. home." He explained as he pulled a chair out for her to sit. "Oh it was my pleasure, he really is a fine boy." She hummed with a soft thank you when he pushed her chair in for her. All the while Jr. sat with a pleased smile, his tail wagging happily as he watched them interact. "He is isn't he." Bowser agreed, feeling as if Jr. really brought home the best gift he ever could have. "But aren't you...?" Bowser suddenly frowned as he moved to his own seat. "Aren't I what?" She asked with curiosity. "Aren't you afraid of us?" Bowser finally asked, his eyes downcast to the table, reminding (Y/n) of how shy Jr. had been in the woods. "Should I be?" She wondered. "N-no!" Bowser shouted suddenly, his eyes wide and fearful, before his hand clamped over his mouth. "Well in that case." She paused, making Bowser peer at her anxiously. "No I'm not afraid." She concluded with a soft smile, her heart melting at the sight of Bowser's relief. She had a feeling this would be a lovely friendship, one she hoped might some day bloom into something romantic. Unable to deny the way she felt herself swooning around the Koopa King.

*Hope this was good. I watched the Mario movie a few days ago, and I absolutely loved it. Admittedly the only Mario game I ever played was on the DS, and that was years ago. But I've totally fallen in love with Bowser. And the clips I've watched of Bowser and Jr. are just so adorable. (∩_∩)

Commission I got from @silvireal
I just wanted a pic of the 5 Fallen from the bratty bottom Lute series. This is fairly early in the series, before reconnecting with Lute. From left to right: Lefty, Tits, Junior, Righty, and Ass. I’m thinking of having it be that any heavenborn who rejects their halo can hide their wings because they do look good without them.

I started this short bowuigi little mermaid au thing a few days ago as a little something to help me feel better cause my depression was basically being like ‘hey, wanna feel ten times worse than usual?’ It was to be a short little thing to self-indulge with, YET IT SOMEHOW IS OVER 5K WORDS, FUCKING HOW?!?!?!?!? Anyways, enjoy. (Edit, to the person who pointed out that Junior said Luigi's name before Bowser finds out, you're a real one and I just fixed it thanks xx).
In the surface land, Bowser is trying to get Princess Peach to marry him because he sees her as the ‘perfect bride’ for him to be happy but she’s not having it.
“Isn’t she lovely Kamek, her golden hair, the way she glides when she moves. Plus, she would be a perfect mother for Junior!”
“Sire, she threw a shoe at your head the last time you proposed to her.”
“…and?”
“Seriously Papa?”
Yeah, Kamek and Junior are starting to get sick of it.
Meanwhile, in the ocean, Mario and Luigi’s parents rule the seven seas. While Mario is more adventurous and outgoing, Luigi is more content to stay under the sea (you’re allowed to hate me for that terrible pun).
See, unlike Ariel, Luigi is deathly afraid of the surface land as he’s heard about all about the terrifying Bowser and what he’s willing to do to get what he wants to he wants to stay as far as possible from there.
“There’s nothing to be scared of Luigi, I’d be able to keep you safe if we were ever near the surface.”
“N-no way! W-what if B-Bowser’s there a-an-d-d gets mad a-at us f-or t-t-t-trespassing! I-I’ll be fine here with Ma and Pa.”
(Luigi also has long hair cause I’m a sucker for long-haired Luigi.)
Que King Boo, a ghostly underwater sea monster who wants to take over both the land and sea but isn’t powerful enough to do so. He knows that Luigi means a lot to his family, so he decides to pull a devious trick to distract them from their duties so he can take over the throne.
“Well, well, well, despite how much of a cowardly shrimp he is, this little prince could be of use to me.”
He uses Polterpup (a ghost sea-lion pup that is able to turn into a dog if he goes to the surface land) to distract Luigi, making him think that a dog had fallen into the sea and needs help. Luigi follows the sound of the distressed barking, hoping to help the innocent animal when suddenly, he’s captured by Boo’s minions and with the limited power that he has, he uses it to turn Luigi into a human to make him unable to return home. That way, while Luigi’s family will be looking for their son, he can try and take over the underwater kingdom and use that power to take over the surface land. Just to make sure that Luigi doesn’t tell anyone, King Boo steals Luigi’s voice and sends him to the edge of the Darklands.
“Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha! Try going home and telling your mommy and daddy about this one princey! Oh wait, you can’t!”
However, since King Boo’s powers are still weak there is a way that the spell can be reserved so he purposely neglects to tell Luigi that the spell can be broken with true love’s kiss.
Luigi is distraught and terrified, already afraid of the surface land and is now forced to live there with no way of being able to ask for help.
Feeling guilty, Polterpup decides to help Luigi get used to his human legs and brings him a rag from a ship to help make into some makeshift clothes.
Meanwhile, Bowser and Junior are minding their own business at the shore of the Darklands when suddenly, Junior sees an unfamiliar human struggling to stand on his own two feet.
“Look Dad! There’s a human, like Peach!”
He gets a bit over excited and runs from his dad to go see Luigi.
Luigi, still frightened and wary of surface creatures (and the fact that this is Bowser’s son! So, if the king sees him with Junior, he could burn him to a crisp!) he gets spooked easily by the child and fumbles his way onto a rock. Polterpup stands in front of Luigi to create some distance with the overzealous child. Eventually, Bowser makes his way over to see what all the fuss is about.
“Junior, what have I told you about running off?!”
“But look Papa, it’s another human! I’ve never seen another human before apart from Peach!”
Bowser suddenly notices Luigi, who ducks behind Polterpup, trying to hide as much of himself as he can.
Bowser is taken aback, like Junior, Peach is the only human he’s seen so he’s never had the chance to formally get to know another one. He sees that the human is a bit skittish, so he tries to be as unintimidating as possible.
“Uh, hey there, sorry about Junior, he has the tendency to get overexcited sometimes.”
“Hey!”
Luigi is still unsure; he’s only ever heard tales about how the king of the koopas was able to be rid of his enemies just with one swipe of his claw. So, seeing him up close makes him want to piss himself.
Bowser can see that the human is still nervous, though he’s a little bit offended, he can’t really blame the human for being scared.
“Did you, uh, get in a shipwreck? Cause I can see that the only thing you’re dressed in is a sail.”
Luigi finally peaks his head out and nods a little bit, wondering why the koopa hasn’t done anything to him yet. Junior is suddenly asking him a lot of questions.
“Woah, you got in a shipwreck?! That’s so cool! Was there tons of thunder and lightning?! Did your ship light on fire?! Your dog is so cool! Is he a ghost?!”
Startled again, Luigi nearly falls off the rock until Bowser catches him. Luigi suddenly starts trembling both from fear and the cold. The king notices this and tries to ask him if he’s alright to try and loosen the tension, but the human is silent.
“What’s wrong? Can’t talk or something?”
He says that sarcastically and laughs a little to try and make the human do so as well, but he takes one look in the human’s eyes and realises that he actually can’t.
“Oh, I see.”
Luigi is hugging himself at this point, wanting to run and hide but he was getting colder and colder by the minute. Bowser then decides to take the human back to the castle to get him warmed up and a little bit less scared.
“Don’t worry, Kamek and Kammy will know how to help you. You’ll be feeling better soon.”
That gets Luigi to look up at the king with curiosity as Bowser carries him back to the castle with Junior and Polterpup by his side. The great ferocious king was holding him ever so gently and promising to help him, he doesn’t know how to feel at this point.
As soon as Kamek and Kammy see Luigi shivering and drenched, they are instantly ‘grandparents mode activated. They take Luigi from Bowser and lead the human into bathroom, (Bowser totally didn’t want to carry him there) Kamek makes him tea and gives Luigi a few biscuits while Kammy is drawing a warm bubble bath for him.
“Here you are now, its not much but it will help fill and warm you up a little bit.”
Luigi has never tasted land food before; he finds it to be quite nice. He even enjoys the bath, letting the water heat him up and blowing on the bubbles. Kammy finds the site adorable.
“The poor thing, washing up from a shipwreck must’ve been so terrifying for you, especially if you heard about the reputation of the Darklands. Don’t worry, we just want to help you feel better and feel comfortable here.”
Kamek comes into the room holding a few dresses and suits, asking the human which one he’d like to wear for dinner. Although Luigi didn’t need to wear clothes as a mermaid, he does know that land creatures wear them all the time. He instantly chooses one of the dresses (because gender norms don’t exist, and Luigi is allowed to wear whatever the fuck he wants!)
Later, Kammy is helping Luigi get changed while Kamek, Junior and Bowser are in the dining room talking about Peach again.
“All I’m saying sire is that it might be due time to stop pursuing the princess. She had already disagreed to your other proposals, and I don’t see her agreeing any time soon.”
“I can’t just give up on her Kamek, Peach makes me feel things that I’ve never felt for anyone. I will marry her, one day.”
As if right on time, Kammy and Luigi are there, the former ushering in the shy man.
“Don’t be so nervous darling, you look lovely!”
Luigi then steps into the room, wearing a beautiful green dress (a green version of Ariel’s pink dress) with Polterpup by his side to keep him company.
Bowser is starstruck, he’s never seen a human look this beautiful before.
“Y-you look amazing.”
Luigi blushes, still nervous but the compliment gives him butterflies.
“Come sit next to me human!”
Junior takes his hand and leads him next to his seat, which happens to also be next to Bowser’s at the head of the table. To try and take his mind off the fact that he’s sitting next to Bowser, Luigi starts focusing on the plates and cutlery, he’s never really seen that many human artefacts before so it’s all so intriguing to him (expect when Mario brings back some from his adventures, but he doesn’t really know what they are either.)
Bowser becomes amused at Luigi’s curiosity for the simple objects he had, his appreciation for things that seem to be mundane gives him a swell of pride.
“I guess my silverware is kinda nice, isn’t it?”
Luigi immediately puts the fork don’t and hides under his hair, afraid that he might have disrespected the king, but Bowser is quick to reassure him that he doesn’t mind.
“It’s just that no one else I know is fascinated by these types of things, so its nice to see someone that it.”
Luigi peers out from his hair, a small smile forming from the king’s praise. Kamek picks up on the tension and decides to do some *matchmaking*.
“Since our guest will be staying for a while, perhaps we should help him feel more comfortable with a tour of the kingdom…Bowser?”
“Papa, are you listening?”
Bowser breaks out of his trance, not even realising he was staring at the human. He couldn’t help it; he’s not seen that many and this one was just so fascinating.
“Ah, yes, a tour sounds great! If you would like one?”
Luigi thinks for a bit and nods. If he was wrong about the king, then maybe he was wrong about the kingdom and surface land and should give it a chance.
Kamek nods at that, pleased with his work. Kammy shoots him a thumbs up for his work.
Later, while Luigi is getting ready for bed, he watches Bowser with Junior as they play in the courtyard. Bowser notices him watching and waves at him. Embarrassed that he was caught, Luigi shyly waves back and backs away from the balcony. He’s wearing a cotton nightgown that Kammy had given him, as well as a glass of water from Kamek in case he gets thirsty during the night. This is also his first time laying in a bed, he’s never felt anything so soft in his life! He falls asleep as soon as he puts his head on the pillow, feeling a bit more hopeful after today.
Back in the ocean, Mario and his family are frantically searching for his brother, terrified that something bad happened to him. He decides to go to the surface land, specifically from the Mushroom Kingdom, and ask their princess for help and if he’s washed up there. It also helps that he’s heard so much about her kindness and beauty and…wake up Mario, focus on the mission at hand.
Back on the surface lands, Bowser takes Luigi on a tour of his kingdom, Polterpup by his feet through the all thing. At first, Luigi is still a bit unsure about the koopas, but soon he becomes a bit more curious. He goes up to some of the food stand giving away free sample and decides to try a little bit of fruit, it’s a bit tangy but still pretty good. He even sees a puppet show for the first time, not knowing how the little puppets are moving, he pulls one of a koopa’s hand, fascinated with how it works. A few koopa children then come up to him and ask to do his hair, having never seen another human before with his like his. He agrees and let the children tie up his hair in a French braid along with a few faux white flowers to go with the new dress he’s wearing. Bowser is watching from afar, his jaw dropping when Luigi’s hairstyle is revealed, his heart skipping a beat when Luigi does a twirl.
“Wow, you…you look beautiful greenie.”
Luigi blushes at the compliment.
The two suddenly hear music and see a few performers starting to play on their instruments as koopas, goombas and shy guys join in. Bowser takes Luigi’s hand and asks him to dance, the man nods his head, feeling a bit more at ease with the king now.
Soon the two join the crowd, laughing and having the time of their lives as they dance away to the music, Polterpup occasionally runs through some of the koopas legs.
When it ends, Bowser guides Luigi to a hidden river, the only place with water in the Darklands (apart from the shore). They share a little boat ride together as they share some of the food they bought at the market, while Polterpup takes a nap. Bowser then remembers that despite the time they shared together, he still doesn’t even know Luigi’s name.
“I feel terrible not knowing your name, and we don’t have anything that you can write with…Oh I know, how about I go down the alphabet and you pick out the letters of your name?”
Luigi nods and though it takes a while, the king manages to spell out his name.
“Luigi huh? A beautiful name for a beautiful human.”
Its Luigi’s turn for his heart to skip a beat. All his life he’d heard about the koopa kingdom and their dreaded king, now it turns out that he’s actually a gentleman who’s been showing him nothing but respect. Ever since this man washed up at his kingdom, Bowser has been feeling things that he’s never felt for anyone. Flustered, vulnerable and a need to protect and love. He’s never even felt this for Peach. The two start to lean in when their boat suddenly tips over, the two falling out. Bowser is quick to pick up Luigi, who begins to wring out his dress while Polterpup begins to shake his non-existent coat. As Bowser carries Luigi back as Polterpup floats beside them, the two fail to see two boos that were the ones who knocked over their boat.
Back in his lair, King Boo is seething!
“That blasted little shrimp! At this rate, these two will end up snogging all over the place and my plans will be ruined!”
He decides to go to his last resort, a mind control crown that he had hoped to use on one of the rulers to conquer the sea and surface, however this crown also held many of his other spells (including Luigi’s) and he wasn’t strong enough to use it more than once to use a spell as powerful as mind control. It was always extremely fragile, though he would still have some power, if it broke then all of his previous spells from over the years would be released, so he held it off for as long as he could, and it seems that now he has no other choice.
Meanwhile, Mario has finally arrived at the Mushroom Kingdom, hoping to find help with the princess. She’s just as beautiful in the rumours he’s heard about her. The princess is shocked to find an adorable red merman in a river near her palace, but she can’t deny his plea for help when he looked just so sweet.
“My brother, he’s gone missing! Is there any chance he’s been around here lately?”
“I’m sorry, you’re the only mer-person we’ve seen here. But don’t worry, we’ll keep a look out and help you find him!”
“Really?! Thank you, princess!”
“Y-you’re welcome.”
Back at the Darklands, Bowser is thinking about his new feelings for Luigi, not knowing if he should act on them since he didn’t want to betray his love for Peach. Kamek, fed up at this point, goes up to give Bowser his thoughts on the matter.
“If I may say sire, some people spend most of their time chasing after treasure on a map that leads them in circles, that they neglect that the diamond in the rough is right in front of them. Just a thought from a silly old koopa.”
As Kamek leaves, Bowser ponders over his surrogate father’s words. For years he’s yearned for Peach so the point that he became blinded by what he thought he wanted and put her on a pedestal. Now, there’s someone that doesn’t see him as a monster and might love him back. He makes his decision and starts to go to Luigi to tell him how he feels when he suddenly feels a weight on his head, and everything goes dark.
The next morning, Luigi wakes up feeling more refreshed and happier than he has since he first turned human. He’s been thinking all night about the maybe-kiss that he and Bowser were about to share and had been contemplating his feelings on the matter. He soon found himself realising that he would mind kissing Bowser, in fact, he would really like to kiss him and spend every day with him, Junior, Kammy and Kamek. Besides, there was nothing stopping him from travelling to see his brother and family, maybe it could all work out? He fell asleep last night with a smile on his face and butterflies in his stomach.
He’s about to run down the stairs to meet Bowser when he hides behind a pillar when he sees the king speaking with Kamek, wearing a strange crown.
“Y-your highness, are you sure this is the best idea?”
“Peach castle is currently unprotected; it would be a good opportunity to strike and take her as my bride.”
“I see that, but after the last few days and our past with the Mushroom Kingdom, shouldn’t we think this through a little bit and-”
“-It has always been my intention to make Peach mine, no matter what and I won’t let anyone get in my way. Especially some scrawny human who washed up at my sure. Once the invasion is complete, the wedding will start immediately.”
“…very well sire.”
Luigi, heartbroken and betrayed, flees to his room, not knowing that King Boo was there the whole having used his ghostly-ness to remain invisible while controlling Bowser with the crown.
As Bowser takes off with his army and airship, Luigi stays behind at the port to cry as Polterpup tries to comfort him, having to face the truth that he was right in the first place, Bowser was just a heartless monster.
Junior is on the airship per his father’s orders to be at the wedding. He searches for his dad, wondering why he had the sudden change of heart about Luigi and his invasion. He creaks open the door to his father’s room when he sees King Boo in Bowser’s mirror, cackling to himself at the fact that his plans are nearly complete.
Realising his dad is being mind controlled by the strange ghost thing, he makes his way down to the clown cars and sneaks away in his own small one to get to Luigi as quickly as possible.
The Mushroom Kingdom is taken aback when Bowser suddenly arrives, not fully prepared for battle since he would usually leave some type of indication that he was coming, but here, he was just blasting through with every intention of not leaving until he gets what he wants. Mario wants to help but Peach tells him to stay hidden. Unable to just do nothing, Mario rushed as fast as he can to get back home to get his father.
As soon as Peach sees Bowser, there’s something different about his atmosphere, something way more menacing and demanding. As usual, he wants Peach to marry him, but this time he doesn’t ask.
“One way or another, you will marry me Peach and we’ll watch your kingdom turn to ash.”
“You’re not even going to bargain.”
“It’s not like you can do anything about it.”
A pit forms in Peach’s stomach, something’s wrong, very wrong.
Junior makes it back to, running to the sobbing man as fast as he can.
“Luigi! Luigi! There’s some weird ghost thing that was in my dad’s mirror! I think that’s why he’s attacking the Mushroom Kingdom so soon! What do we do?!”
Luigi’s eyes widen in horror. King Boo! He had to be behind all this. Without any second thoughts, Luigi climbs in Junior’s clown car, along with Polterpup, and the two head to the Mushroom Kingdom as fast as they can.
While Bowser/Boo is adamant about the wedding, the koopas there are a little less comfortable about it due to how strange and intimidating the king was acting. As the service starts, Peach pulls out an ice flower from her bouquet and attacks Bowser, she lands a few hits, but Bowser uses his fire to melt the ice. Peach keeps trying to fight though, at least to distract him while she thinks of a plan. The koopas also help, agreeing that their King was not himself and didn’t want anyone in the Mushroom Kingdom getting severely injured.
Luigi finally arrives with Junior, jumps out of the vehicle and lands on Bowser’s shoulders while he’s fighting Peach. Seeing a crown that wasn’t on Bowser’s head before, Luigi grabs it and smashes it to the ground, falling off Bowser’s shoulder from the impact of the throw.
Suddenly, Bowser sees himself at the Mushroom Kingdom, not knowing how he got there since the last place he remembered being was back home. Princess Peach and the koopas stop, sensing that Bowser’s atmosphere was back to normal as he looks towards Luigi.
“Luigi, are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine…wait…I can talk!”
“You can finally speak again!”
“My voice its back!”
“I don’t understand, what’s happening?”
“It’s King Boo, he-aahhh!”
Before he can get another word out, there’s a sharp pain in his legs. He fells his bones bending and breaking in the most painful way and King Boo suddenly appears, turning him back into a merman before he can get another word out. Luigi looks to Bowser, afraid of what he’ll think of the man once he realises what he really is. But Bowser is too wrapped up in shock of what its happening and worry for the man that he loves.
King Boo grabs Luigi and drags him back into the ocean, the latter screaming for Bowser as the koopa tries to grab him as Luigi is forced back into the water, Polterpup chasing after his new owner. The king turns to Princess Peach.
“Princess, I know this may be confusing, but I really need your help, please, I love him!”
“Don’t worry, I think I might know his brother and what’s going on.”
Back in the ocean, Luigi is struggling against King Boo, trying to escape his grasp but somehow, the ghost’s grip is tighter than he though. Polterpup tries to fight his old master but a few Boos that had been hiding easily grab him.
“Oh, don’t worry little shrimp, it ain’t you that I’m after.”
“KING BOO THAT IS ENOUGH!”
The pair stop when they see Luigi’s father, the King of the ocean along with Mario stop them in their path.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the red prince and the ruler of the seven seas.”
“Let my brother go!”
“No can do princey, precious little Lulu is all mine until you give me what I want.”
Luigi’s father growls at that.
“My son does not belong to you!”
He goes to use his magical trident, but a few boos grab Luigi and use some type of electricity on him, making the youngest prince scream out in pain.
“You see, the thing is your majesty, one wrong move and your precious little boy won’t be, how do I put this? Part of your world anymore.” (I am so sorry for that awful pun.)
The sea king was at a loss, he knew he would be putting everyone at risk by handing the trident and the throne to this made ghost buthe couldn’t lose his youngest son, from the corner of his eye, he could see Mario agree. He hands the trident over to King Boo, begging him not to hurt his son. With a mad gleam in his eye, he grabs the trident and lets Luigi go. To the green merman’s horror, the poltergeist points the artifact to his father and brother, watching in devastation as he turns them into dust.
With a strangled scream, he goes to attack King Boo, though surprised at Luigi’s reaction, manages to throw him to the ground. He’s about to use the trident on him when he suddenly feels something hit him. He looks up to see Bowser under the water, who had thrown a spear at him and raises the trident to him. In a moment of panic, Luigi grabs King Boo, making him point the trident at his boos instead and disintegrates them. Not wanting to witness King Boo’s anger, Luigi swims up to Bowser and guides him above the water, not witnessing the Boo’s fury with his new powers below him.
The koopa and merman reach the surface of the water, Bowser trying to reach out to Luigi.
“Bowser you have to go, now! Before King Boo gets you!”
“No, I’m not leaving you behind again!”
They feel a rumbling all around them. Suddenly, King Boo rises from the sea as a giant with the two on his head, cackling like a mad man. Bowser and Luigi jump back into the water, trying to escape until King Boo starts to form a whirlpool, separating them. Luigi falls into the whirlpool, landing at the bottom as Polterpup rushes over to him as King Boo taunts him.
Bowser is still paddling in the water, trying to get to Luigi when a ship comes up beside it. Inside was Princess Peach, some toads, koopas and Kamek. They throw a rope down to Bowser and help him up. Kamek looks to the king.
“I used my magic to help steer that boat but I’m barely holding on! I need you to guide the bowsprit and drive it into that mad boo!”
“But’s a ghost, he’s already dead!”
“I’ve managed to enchant so that I can trap him in this!”
Kamek holds up a pale purple gem, sparkling with some type of magic that the magikoopa used. Princess Peach then speaks up.
“I’m managing the sails while the toads and koopas are defending us! Bowser, are you able to guide the ship!”
“You can count on me Princess, take this as the beginning of a massive apology to you!”
Peach nods and everyone gets to work. King Boo is shooting at Luigi in the whirlpool, the merman trying to dodge as much as he can but knows that he is not strong enough to do anything. Enraged by what the Boo is doing to his love, Bowser drives the bowsprit into King Boo. The poltergeist screams with both pain and fear, knowing that if he can feel that then somehow, he has been defeated.
The seas calm down as the boo disappears into the gem. Bowser tries to look for Luigi, but the whirlpool is gone, and the merman is nowhere in sight. Kamek keeps him from jumping out as the princess guides the ship back to shore.
In the ocean, Luigi grabs the trident and rushes back over to where his father and brother were with Polterpup following him and sees the two have been returned to normal. Overjoyed, he hugs them both, all three of them crying now that Luigi is safe and home.
“I missed you so much Lu. I’m so sorry I wasn’t here when you went missing.”
“It’s okay Mario, I’m safe now, It’s okay.”
He gives the trident back to his father and the three mermen return home.
A few days later, Luigi is hiding behind a rock, Polterpup beside him as he watches Bowser from the shore of the Darklands, pining to see the merman again. Mario and his father watch from afar.
“You know, a while ago, Luigi would have fainted at the thought of going to the Darklands. Now, seeing how he looks at that koopa king, he’s gotten more braver than I ever imagined.”
“Peach told me that he jumped on Bowser’s shoulder’s just to get the crown off him.”
“Oh yes, how are you and that princess getting along?”
“Ah-I-wha-Dad!”
“I’m just teasing. Though, he hasn’t been truly himself since he came home.”
“I guess he left a part of himself since leaving the Darklands. After all, when you love someone, you give a piece of yourself to them, and in return, they grant you something even more freeing.”
“Then I guess there’s only one problem left.”
“And what’s that Dad?”
“…How much I’m going to miss him.” Mario raises an eyebrow in confusion for a moment before his father points his trident at Luigi.
Luigi feels a tingling sensation on his fins, looking down to see that there are no fins at all, his legs had returned! He turns to his father and brother, his smile beaming as the two nod to him.
Bowser is staring off into the distance, thinking about Luigi when he sees brown hair peeking out of the water. His heart stops when he sees Luigi emerging from the water in a sparkling green dress and his hair flowing in the wind. Bowser runs to him, picking him up and spinning him around in his arms and holds him as the two finally share a kiss.
A year later, the two are finally married on a giant ship, Luigi wearing a poofy wedding dress while Bowser is dressed in his finest suit. Luigi’s family and kingdom are watching from the ocean while toads and koopa finally come together as one. Princess Peach hugs Luigi, glad to have another human companion and blows a kiss to Mario in the ocean, who blushes at the gesture and waves back. Junior is also glad Luigi is back and is going to be his stepdad. He and Polterpup have also become close friends, the two playing together when they can. Kamek and Kammy are finally happy that Bowser has found love after all this time.
Mario asks his father to use to powers to lift him with the water to see his brother one more time. Luigi smiles softly and gives his brother a hug.
“Don’t cry big bro, I’ll see you after the honeymoon, you’re acting as if I’ll never see you again.”
“I’m sorry, its just, I’m so happy for you.”
“I love you, Mario.”
“I love you too Lu.”
He gives Bowser a menacing glare along the lines of ‘hurt my bro and I’ll end you’ before Peach comes over and kisses him on the cheek, making the red merman faint into the ocean. Luigi laughs at his brother’s antics as he waves goodbye to all the other mer-folk as the ship sails away to its next destination.
Bowser and Luigi give one another a soft look and share one more kiss.
The end.
You're allowed to yell at me for the shitty puns.
(Edit: also I love that you guys enjoyed it and you’re free to write something for this as it was only meant to be a drabble after having a bad day. As long as you credit and tag me, y’all can use this idea and write your own Bowuigi little mermaid fic ☺️)

“You’re sure Junior’s gonna try and jump?” you sighed, rubbing your face as you followed behind Bowser to the garage door.
“No offense, little lady, but I think I’d know how my son would react a little better than you,” he snorted back at you.
He did have a point… but surely Junior would remember how you told them earlier that you were sore, or something? Whatever your excuse had been. But then, being a little boy, perhaps the adrenaline of the race had made him forget that you might not be able to catch him - assuming Bowser was correct about Junior’s reaction to winning, of course. He probably was.
You nearly ran into Bowser’s spiked shell when he stopped abruptly.
“Hey?”
He glanced back at you, a serious look on his face. You frowned in concern, but your concern quickly vanished when he suddenly smirked and yanked you into his arms for a kiss before you could even blink. And then, before you could fully process, he was walking through the door.
“Papa!” Junior screeched excitedly, “Did you see me win?!” Bowser hesitated a moment, then lifted his head to smirk smugly at you over the top of his head.
Junior had jumped into his arms.
You rolled your eyes, but smiled warmly as you stepped around the giant koopa to see the boys. “That was a lot of fun!”
Morton was pouting with his arms crossed over his chest; he huffed softly at your words. Ludwig lightly nudged him. “Don’t be rude, Mort,” the eldest sibling muttered, before turning to you with a nod. “Thanks, handmaid. That was a weird race, but it was fun.”
“Nuh-uh!” Morton huffed, “I fell off! That wasn’t fun at all!”
“You’re just jealous that I won,” Junior stated, sticking his tongue out at his brother.
“Junior,” Bowser scolded; the little koopa winced a bit.
You just chuckled softly and went over to Morton as normally as you could, holding your arms out in invitation for a hug. Morton glanced at you, hesitated, then gave you a tight hug, not about to let go too soon.
“It was scary seeing you drive off the edge, y’know,” you murmured. “I’m glad you’re okay. It might not’ve been fun for that to happen, but it did make for an exciting race, and I think showmanship is almost as important. I was impressed that you didn’t give up even when that happened.”
You were keenly aware of how all the chatter behind you stopped, but for once you didn’t let yourself overthink it. Morton slowly pulled back from you, looking at you like he didn’t quite believe you’d been worried.
“You… promise? That you worried? About me?” he asked haltingly, his eyes flicking over to his family.
A little smile tugged at your lips, and you brought your hands up to cup his cheeks. “Of course. I thought you were plummeting to your certain death in that lava.” When he just stared at you in stunned silence, you leaned in and kissed his nose lightly, then dropped your hands.
When you turned back around, you were admittedly a little surprised to see all the koopas staring at you. Well, Bowser was grinning, but the boys were staring at you like you were the most wonderful thing they’d ever seen in their lives.
“I want one,” Ludwig blurted.
Well, who were you to argue? You could tell by the way Junior was leaning away from his father that he’d also want one, so you got right to it and placed a kiss on Ludwig’s nose. The eldest brought his hand up to touch where you kissed, going cross eyed like he’d be able to see it. You smiled, then turned to Junior - who was actively reaching for you.
You couldn’t deny that you forgot just how young he was. He was so smart and relatively independent that it was a bit of a shock to see him acting like the young child he really was.
You gathered the youngest koopa into your arms, giving him a kiss on the nose as you did, and held him close; even Bowser looked a little stunned as Junior snuggled into you. Since you were holding Junior, you missed the look that passed between him and the two older boys, but you saw them glance at each other before looking straight at you again.
“Mama,” the three boys chimed in unison.
Your cheeks grew red awfully quickly - they said it in a serious tone, no stuttering or snickering or smirking. These boys really just dubbed you Mama…
“Boys, you can’t just–”
“It’s okay,” you said softly. Your face was still quite hot and no doubt red from the unexpected new title, but you were just as surprised as everyone else that you just said that. “I don’t think I mind, honestly…”
Bowser placed his hand on your back, but retained a steely, blank face as he looked you up and down. “You sure? Not easy suddenly takin’ on teenagers when you barely old enough to be a young mom.”
Junior pressed his face into your neck, practically a perfect fit because of how small he still was. You gently rubbed the boy’s shell between his nubby little spikes. All you could do was give Bowser a look, and the man chuckled and shook his head.
“Alright. But, boys, I don’t want y’all overwhelmin’ her, okay? A lot’s happened this week, so let’s be wary of that,” he sighed.
The boys all made noises of agreement. Morton had already displayed a surprisingly high level of emotional intelligence from earlier, so you wouldn’t be surprised if Bowser was raising his kids to be aware of that. Either way, though, the next thing you knew was that the two older boys had very insistently thrown their arms around you for a group hug, their eyes perhaps a little wet from the fact that you weren’t rejecting them.
Apparently not one to be left out of a family group hug, Bowser sighed, then threw his arms around all of you and held you all close to him - despite the amount of bodies and shells, the koopa still managed to squeeze you all right to him, and there you all stayed for a few solid moments.
Alas, unfortunately all good things come to an end, so eventually Bowser pulled away, bringing his two older sons with him. “Alright, boys. Me ‘n Mama gotta talk about stuff, so y’all go bother Sister or something. I’ll talk to y’all at dinner about an errand I need for one or all of y’all to run tomorrow.” Ludwig opened his mouth to say something, but Bowser held up a clawed hand to stop him, even shaking his head. “Sorry, kiddo, but it’s important stuff.”
The boys exchanged a glance. Apparently, Ludwig hadn’t been about to ask whatever his father had anticipated, but since he’d been silenced already…
You didn’t even have time to set Junior down before he leaned back a little and placed both of his little hands on your face, staring deeply into your eyes. You were so taken off guard by it that all you could do was blink a few times as you waited for him to say something.
“Are you two getting married?” Junior finally asked.
Immediately, Bowser swiped the littlest koopa from you, laughing too loudly as he gestured for you to follow him to the door, Junior tucked into the crook of his other arm. “Haha! Y’all are real funny sometimes, Junior! Poor lady hasn’t even been here a full week, so y’all let her get settled in before askin’ questions like that!”
On the way to the door, he set Junior down and instead placed his hand on the small of your back. The door was just barely cracked open when Morton piped up one more time: “That wasn’t a ‘no,’ though! It should’ve just been a yes or no question, but you didn’t answer yes or no, which means that there’s a possi-”
Bowser shoved you through the open doorway and practically slammed it shut behind him, cutting off whatever else Morton was about to say.
You honestly couldn’t blame the big guy; it was definitely too soon to know if marriage was on the table! But you couldn’t deny that at least for now, the flame between you and the king had the potential to become something significantly more intense, in a good way.
However, it also absolutely opened you up to teasing him.
“So when’s the wedd–”
“Tell me, li’l lady,” Bowser interrupted as he swept you up into his strong arms once again, “how I can marry someone without knowin’ her name? Won’t you show mercy to this poor koopa and finally tell me? Put me outta my misery?”
So, this was it. You had promised him a discussion about your name, and it had finally come time for that. Unfortunately, that would also mean going into a little more detail about your life after leaving home. More fortunately, Bowser would be there for snuggles, and you couldn’t deny that after your morning romp and subsequent aftercare, you were more than willing to put your faith in him as a safe being to start potentially, slightly relying on.
You could only hope this wouldn’t come back to bite you, but you were willing to take the risk. It felt like your recovery depended on it.
“Unfortunately, it’s not exactly a straightforward answer,” you said softly, your head resting against his chest as he carried you.
He hummed quietly in confusion. After a moment, he stated, “Okay, gimme the shortest answer you can.”
The shortest answer? Well… sure, you could do that. No doubt it’ll just confuse him more and he’ll end up demanding the longer version, but alright.
“I’ve forgotten it.”
Bowser hummed again, then chuffed, then tilted his head. “...Huh?”
Yeah, that sounded about right honestly.
“I said I don’t remember it.”
He hummed yet again, although this time it was more in acknowledgement that he heard you. When you tried to open your mouth to start the little story, he cut you off with a short “Ah!” sound, like you were a pet about to do something bad and he was warning you not to.
The fuck? You blinked in surprise, stunned into silence as he brought you back inside and started ascending the stairs to his room.
“But–”
“Nah.”
Your eyes narrowed a little. Perhaps understandably, you were struggling to figure out what was going through his head, but it was pretty clear he didn’t want you to talk. Did he think you were stupid? Did telling him you forgot your own name make him think differently of you somehow? That… really couldn’t be right, but you also knew from experience that sometimes small details like that made all the difference for people. Surely King Bowser Koopa wasn’t one of those people… right…?
“No wonder you respond to everything,” Bowser stated suddenly, finally summiting the stairs and making a beeline for his door.
“I–”
“Hush, sweetheart, I’m thinkin’.”
Ah, so that was it. As irritating as those little noises were, you reminded yourself that you were still learning about him. You could work with it next time… which in and of itself was a weird thought to have so confidently.
Bowser didn’t say anything else until he had the bedroom door locked, you sitting on the edge of the bed, and himself sitting on the floor in front of you with your hands held in his. To his credit, this was probably as close to eye level as you two could get, vertically speaking, without you standing. Once all of that was achieved, he heaved a surprisingly cool sigh into your face, seemingly emptying his lungs entirely of air before stopping.
The way he gazed at you as he did that made a blush creep into your cheeks; it was a fond look, still, but there was something more to it, like if he looked at you long enough he’d suddenly understand everything. Hell, you could even see the moment he decided to finally speak again.
“Rodney?” His voice was so soft and careful that it nearly made you crumble into tears right then and there.
However, you kept your composure, and answered evenly, “No, actually. He didn’t help, but even before him I forgot my name.”
“Baby, that’s… a little sad. That’s really sad. How come you don’t seem too upset?” he practically crooned, squeezing both of your hands. You were a little surprised, honestly; you hadn’t thought just how bad it might sound to someone else that you forgot your own name. “Identity is often rooted in a name; names hold power for their owners… Ain’t names important where you from?”
You could feel your eyes glaze over as the question slammed into your brain like a massive Bullet Bill. Were names important where you were from? Surely they must be, right? You didn’t remember living in a huge community or anything, but surely everyone had names? Like… like, um…
“I-I don’t know,” you blurted.
Suddenly, you were faced with the fact that you had potentially been going through your life without your own name entirely, a true name that you could reliably fall back to, which no doubt stole any form of self identity from you. After all, how could you form an identity without even a name to your existence? Going from place to place with a different name every time, never really a permanent residence long or safe enough to feel like a true home - and no family name to try to go back to.
The most confusing part about it all was that up until you met Rodney, your life had been pretty nice. No real identity, but you got along contentedly until you went to the next place, so it wasn’t like you had trauma around forgetting or never knowing your name! It just never really struck you that you could have just picked something out and kept it… which means it must’ve been a learned behavior.
Bowser’s claws raking gently over your scalp had you blinking clarity back into your eyes, and you focused on the man in front of you. He looked worried, but not overly so, so it seemed you just got lost in thought and didn’t accidentally panic.
Nice.
“I never really thought about keeping one for myself,” you admitted to him. You shook your head a bit, leaned over and kissed his nose, then sat up again. “I mean, I can’t remember why I had to change names so often, because my life was honestly pretty decent up until I met Rodney, but I remember that I did have to. It was just a part of my life that I never thought twice about.”
You brought your free hand up to your man’s snout, gently running your hand along those soft, smooth scales. He rumbled quietly, clearly relaxing a little - although you weren’t sure if it was from your words or your hand.
“Promise you’re not hidin’ anything?” he asked, his eyes closing, a rough purr starting up.
“I promise,” you chuckled softly.
“Right… I mean, it’s still sort of a big deal that ya don’t have a name, though. Like I said, names got power, especially here. Names is important - I guess you been goin’ by Jeanne right now, but you better find ya a name you really like. One that feels… hm, I guess like home?”
Well… you didn’t really have a solid sense of home, either, but you knew what he was trying to say. Maybe it would be worth it to finally pick one out that you’d use for the rest of your life? Or… maybe you chose another temporary one, just in case things ever went sour here. That seemed like a better idea, frankly.
But then, if you went that route, then you were potentially setting yourself up to fail. It didn’t hurt to have a backup plan, an escape plan if you will, but sometimes anticipating something to fail would ensure that it did… fuck, this was starting to get confusing.
“Darlin’.”
“Huh?”
You blinked a few times. Whoops, you got a little wrapped up in your head!
“Do you like the name Jeanne?” he repeated.
“I… I’ll figure it out,” you sighed, rubbing your face.
“Listen.” Bowser sat up a little and brought both of his hands to your face. “This ain’t a time to be flippant. Find a name that you really, genuinely like, sweetheart. Names have serious power here. I mean it.”
You brought your hands up to rest over his, gazing at him. You really hadn’t thought having a name would be such a big deal, but…
“I’ll think on it,” you said softly. “I’ll get some suggestions from the kids, though… and you. Since I’ve never really thought about it too hard before, I’ll need a starting point…”
Bowser nodded and ran his thumbs over your cheeks. Good, that was an acceptable answer!
For a moment, there was silence between the two of you as you just gazed at each other; there was nothing more to say about this topic, at least for now, and you bought yourself a little time to do some research about this whole name business. Both for finding names, and finding out what he means by ‘names have power.’
Eventually, you leaned forward and kissed his nose, and then he tilted his head just enough to steal a sweet kiss off of your lips. You didn’t bother to hide the smile that appeared after.
“So that’s one issue out the way,” the koopa murmured. “But I guess while I got you here, there’s somethin’ else we should probably talk about.”
You blinked, surprised, but nodded a little.
“What else do we have to talk about?” you couldn’t help but ask. As far as you knew, there were no other secrets between you two… right? At least you hoped not!
He dropped one of his hands from your face to your thigh and gave it a gentle rub. “Rodney’s death.”
Immediately, you shifted uncomfortably, avoiding his gaze. Yeah… just because he was dead, didn’t mean he’d stop causing you problems, apparently. You nodded for Bowser to keep going.
“Peasley is gonna realize at some point that he don’t have one of his guards. He smarter than you think, so I imagine the question will come up as soon as tomorrow.”
At least it wasn’t today… right?
“O-okay?” you mumbled, lightly leaning your face into his scaly hand.
“So I ain’t gonna lie to him. But this means you might need to explain your story to him directly, and I’ll have Peach corroborate it.” He brought his hand up from your face to push your hair back from your eyes, which were starting to well with unshed tears.
You hated still being so goddamn emotional over that evil man, not even giving yourself the reminder that he literally just died and that it was okay to be feeling all over the place emotionally. It was probably expected, even, but you’d be damned if you didn’t berate yourself back into quiet silence!
“Easy, baby girl,” he cooed softly, wiping your eyes, “I’m gonna be with you, okay?”
You squeezed your eyes shut as the tears spilled, struggling to keep your breathing even, focusing on the feeling of Bowser’s hand oh so gently wiping your face free of tears. It… didn’t ground you as much as you wanted, frankly.
“Won’t that potentially start a war? Political issues, and stuff?” you managed to croak out.
Bowser rumbled and pulled you into a tight hug. “Already thinkin’ like a queen. You let me worry about that part, okay? Me and Peach. I’m the king, after all, so it’s my job to handle this sort of thing.”
Hopefully Bowser and Peasley had a cordial enough relationship that the foreign prince wouldn’t decide that killing Rodney was an act of war against the BeanBean Kingdom. Plus, if Peach and Rodney had been related, surely Peach and Peasley were on friendly terms that he’d believe her even if he didn’t necessarily believe Bowser. You’d spill your guts if you had to, but this reaction to simply mentioning him had you wondering if you’d even be able to get through the story? Hell, you already felt like Rodney was still out there and about to burst into the room any moment, yelling at the top of his lungs about how you’re emotional over something that isn’t even directly your concern…
You clung to Bowser as you struggled not to let yourself spiral. Even so, a few panicked sobs escaped you. Slowly, gently, he pulled you off the edge of the bed and into his lap to properly hug you; even the stretch of your legs around his waist wasn’t enough to set you straight again.
As you sat there blubbering with your face in his neck and your arms wrapped partially around his torso, he began to rock a little from side to side. Although you didn’t outright question it, it struck you as a little odd that just this small little reaction had him acting this way. It was very pleasant, you weren’t complaining or anything! Just confus–
Oh… wait… what's that little discomfort starting to settle in your lower abdomen? Surely your body wouldn't add insult to injury, right? You weren't expecting anything to happen for another week anyway…
Bowser rumbled softly as he shifted his head just enough to get his nose against you, warm air hitting you as he sniffed deeply.
"D-don't tell me," you sniffed.
"Sorry, sweetheart."
“No… please, body, not now…”
“I’ll have Kamek get you some, uh… well, y’know.” He rubbed your back gently, still rocking you.
You heaved a sigh despite the tears still falling, and rested your chin on his bulky shoulder. “You can just say pads or tampons. It’s not a taboo subject or anything.” Especially since they’re in private… Hopefully this wasn’t an indication of Bowser’s potential immaturity around certain things.
“You might gotta forgive me, lovely. I ain’t exactly versed in human reproduction, but I got a rough idea how it goes… so I know what I’m smellin’ from you and that it means you’re not pregnant, but…” He sniffed you again. Whether for dramatic effect or because he liked the smell was up in the air.
At the very least it was giving you more to think about besides that near-spiral. It was hard, you wouldn’t deny that - it was taking a lot of effort on your part not to give in! Conscious effort. At least in this moment, you would keep yourself from totally falling apart.
“So, what, did you phrase it that way because you didn’t know the name of the products I’m gonna need?” you asked, not sure if you totally believed that.
“...Yes,” he mumbled with a gentle nuzzle to your temple.
Finally, the corners of your mouth twitched as a small smile threatened to make an appearance. “Really? There’s a lot of types, so I can write down the stuff I specifically use… you know what the products are for, right?”
“Uh…”
Oh, dear. Poor man didn’t even know that much… well, this probably meant that Wendy wouldn’t have to experience the misery that is the period, at least. After all, reptiles weren’t exactly known for periods.
“It’s to absorb the blood I’ll be bleeding for the next five or so days.”
Bowser’s eyes went wide and for a moment, all he could do was stare silently at you. You watched him, allowing the information to sink into that thick skull of his. Finally, his mouth opened and closed a few times, and then he let out the most alarmed, panicked, “HUH?!” you ever heard in your life.
It was like you had just told Bowser that you were going to sacrifice Junior or something, honestly, because the next thing you knew, Bowser's hands were gripping your arms and his nose was pressed against yours. "YOU'RE GONNA BE BLEEDIN' FOR A FUCKIN’ WEEK?!" he practically bellowed, right into your face.
It made sense Princess Peach would hide that little time of the month from her many-year stalker, but you had to wonder how exactly she managed that. Still, this was the proper reaction (in your opinion) that every non-female person needed when being told the truth.
You gently ran your hands over Bowser’s snout in a soothing manner. “What did you know about the human reproductive cycle?” you asked gently.
At least it wasn’t a discussion about Rodney anymore.
“Um…” Bowser blinked, apparently taken aback by your calm nature about your period. “I… I know the hormones tend to fuck with emotions, so you might get pissy or angry or sad and it ain’t exactly your fault. And that you’ll need chocolate.”
Well… okay. Could be worse, you supposed. Still, the poor guy had no idea what he was in for - not that you were a demon or something from your PMS! But he couldn’t known literally nothing at all, which would’ve been a much harder conversation to explain, especially how hormones absolutely cause most of the PMS symptoms that people usually think of.
The chocolate bit went unrefuted by you because it was true. You’d need chocolate.
You sighed softly as finally, a weariness began to settle into your bones; after this morning’s romp and the brief episode you nearly had, you were already exhausted from the day, and sort of ready for things to start winding down for the day.
“So - so tell me what all you gonna need, so I can tell Kamek. Please.”
“Can I see your phone? I’m gonna write it all out, since there’s specific brands and stuff I tend to like.”
Finally, he let go of you, allowing you to slump against him as he pulled his phone out from… somewhere. He unlocked it, then brought up the little notes app before giving it to you. You resettled in his lap to better type, and soon was handing the phone back to him. You watched as his eyes scanned the things you typed.
“...Shit, little lady. How often does this happen, to know exactly what you want?” he mumbled.
You bit your lip, unsure how he’d take the news, but you wouldn’t deny him the information that’s honestly just generally good for him to know: “Once a month, every month.”
“What?!” It was a lesser reaction, at least, but he was still obviously not happy about learning all of these new facts. Honestly, you didn’t blame Princess Peach for not telling him the ins and outs of being a female human. “Forever?!”
You smiled a little, gently petting his chest. “Nah… not forever.”
He relaxed as he hugged you. “Oh… good. How long, then?”
“Until I’m roughly fifty, so I got a good few decades left of this bullshit,” you sighed, rubbing his forearm. “Symptoms aren’t always the same, either, but depending on how long I end up staying, you might start recognizing signs…”
“Can’t believe Peach never told me anythin’ about this,” he muttered, his nose tucking against you.
It was all you could do to gently rub his forearm again; at least you could explain that to him.
“Well,” you sighed, “typically human women are taught to keep it to ourselves that we’re on our period… I dunno why, it’s just supposed to be a very personal thing. So it’s not surprising Princess Peach never told you; it seems she was also raised to largely have it be a private matter. Even female friends won’t tell their male friends unless they’re just that close, y’know?”
Bowser hummed quietly in thought as he held you close like kids hold large stuffed animals. Knowing he was thinking, you waited for him to speak up instead of offering more words.
“That… makes some sense,” he said slowly. When he didn’t immediately expand, you reached a hand up to lightly stroke his bushy eyebrows, which prompted him to continue, “I only ever successfully kidnapped her right as the smell of those hormones was fading. I mean, over the years I put it together, but…”
You blinked a few times, then frowned, but kept your thoughts to yourself. The way that Bowser just worded that, it sounded like what had actually been happening was that Peach allowed herself to be kidnapped when she knew Bowser wouldn’t be able to really ask questions… or else how could he have literally never stolen her during her period? Over so many years it was statistically impossible unless she was pulling some sort of strings behind the scenes.
Well… whatever. That was neither here nor there for now.
“Yeah, she just didn’t want you to know or ask embarrassing questions,” you reassured him softly.
He rumbled softly, nuzzling you against your temple as he asked, “But you’d answer my questions, right? If any come up?”
You smiled a little and nodded your head yes. “Of course!” you stated, “since you’re gonna have to deal with me anyway. It’s the least I can do.”
“Oh, it ain’t ‘cause you nice.”
…Huh? Why was he so confident about that when you literally just said you might as well?
“Oh?” you inquired, wanting to hear his explanation.
“Nah,” he scoffed. He grinned against your temple - you only had a split second to mentally prepare yourself for his next words, rumbled quietly right into your ear: “It’s ‘cause you my good girl.”
Deity above, you wanted to hate those words and hiss and shrivel away from him like he’d just poisoned your yoshi or something… but instead, goosebumps erupted over your skin, your shoulders in danger of giving away just what you thought about that little phrase.
“Oh, shut up and get Kamek to get that list,” you muttered. “I’m on limited time before I start bleeding through my clothes.”
“Fuck–!” Bowser nearly fumbled his phone as he rushed to send the list to Kamek, definitely alarmed by your casual threat. It did give you a small sense of satisfaction that you could still give him a little whiplash just like he did to you with that little ‘good girl’ comment…
…He was going to get you into trouble. But, for once, you wouldn’t mind…

Once I Called You Lover
Luigi franticly palmed his way through the unusually darkened Koopa Kingdom and toward Koopa Castle, determined to see the king, plague of darkness be damned. Potholes the size of washtubs pitted the ground around him, nearly causing him to trip over as he grew ever closer to his destination.
Bowser was going to listen to him this time, he will make sure of it!
He just had to.
There was too much at stake if he refused now.
For him and Luigi both.
He sighed as he felt his way towards the main gate. The Koopa guards had long abandoned their posts when the fourth plague came in the form of a swarm of flopters, so there was no fear of being stopped for trespassing. Luigi knelt down and felt around the ground before finding an abandoned torch before venturing closer to the lava moat and dipping one end, lighting it. Though the darkness still obscured his view, the glow of the lava moat and his new torch allowed him to make out the extensive damage the castle took from the bob-omb sized balls of fiery hailstones from two plagues back. Chunks of obsidian stone were missing from the castle's battlements, dashed to pieces by the fiery balls of ice. Stone statues of the gargantuan Koopa we're missing limbs if not completely smashed all together. As he turned his gaze from the building, he felt his heart constrict with sympathy. Whatever damage Bowser's castle had sustained was nothing compared to the absolute devastation that his citizens' homes endured. The few he was able to see had irreparable damage, ranging from nearly being burnt to the ground to being almost crushed by an giant hailstone, or both. Many of the citizens who lost their homes had to take shelter in one of their gaming arenas, leaving the streets completely empty.
So much destruction. And for what?
He placed a hand over his face before taking a shuddering breath.
How did it come to this? He thought to himself.
What was supposed to be a simple plumbing job with Mario to "save Brooklyn" had turned into a few months of a dream turned waking nightmare. And all because of a certain king whose selfishness was going to get others even more hurt.
Including himself.
Suddenly, the castle gates were opened, causing the timid man to jump. He looked down as Kamek, the royal Magickoopa and one of Bowser's closest advisors, glared at him through his thick coke-bottle glasses.
"What do you want?" He sneered, his beak turned up in a snarl.
"I... I need to speak with Bowser," Luigi stammered, holding the light closer to himself.
Kamek scoffed, "Oh, do you now? What else could you possibly have to say, hmm? What? Was turning our only water supply into lava not enough? What about the frogs? Or our moo-moos dying? Hmm, maybe when you gave everyone shellpox?"
"Kamek-"
"Oh wait, maybe it was last time when the swaphoppers destroyed the rest of our crops after the flying balls of fiery hail burnt most of it to a crisp?"
" C'mon-"
"Let's not forget about the skeeters and flopters! Although, I might be speaking to someone else entirely, considering it's so dark here lately, I haven't been able to see my own beak in front of my face!"
Luigi went silent for a moment. He couldn't blame the elderly mage in the slightest for his anger. But the more time he spent with Kamek, the more time was running out.
"Please, Kamek," Luigi begged, "He needs to hear this. If he doesn't, this next plague will destroy us!"
Kamek paused.
He very well knew what Luigi meant by "us".
He growled.
"I swear, if any harm comes to my grandson-"
"That is what I'm trying to prevent!"
Kamek stared at the young human. When he first arrived in the Darklands, his son had just finished conquering almost all of the known kingdoms after Princess Peach rejected his marriage proposal for the last time and fled to Sarasaland, which was currently under siege. He remembered the way that Bowser's obsession of the Princess seemed to melt away in an instant after locking eyes with this green plumber. The two of them connected in a way that he had never seen before, and he could see just how much his very presence brought out the best in him. He was able to make him laugh (and a real laugh, not the hollow-sounding cackle that he adopted during his conquest), he would stay in the library and learn everything that he could about Koopa culture in order to better understand the things that Bowser held near and dear to him.
But what had really won him over was the way Luigi bonded with the Crown Prince.
If Bowser was in love with Luigi, then Junior seemed to worship the ground he walked on. Every waking moment of the day, Junior wanted to spend it with the green clad man, no matter how boring the task. And who could blame him? In the few times that Bowser kidnapped the princess, Peach would sulk in her room and refuse to let anyone inside, even to give her meals. And though she was never cruel to the poor boy (at least not intentionally) the few interactions she did allow were filled with an apathy so palpable that after a while, Junior stopped asking for her altogether.
But then Luigi arrived.
Soon, the halls were filled with the little prince's laughter as the two of them drew together, played video games, went karting around the castle courtyard, and baked delicious treats together. And with the happiness of the prince, the king's happiness was doubled.
Happiness that the scrawny human brought.
It wasn't very long until Bowser was writing love poems and ballads dedicated to literally sing his praises and three months in, he had commissioned an engagement ring for him.
What a shame that it didn't last.
Without another word, he opened the door wider for his supposed-to-be son-in-law to let him in.
"Thank you." Luigi whispered. The elder nodded his head as he passed, but not before calling his name.
"Luigi."
The green plumber turned around to face the elderly Koopa once more. The weariness from the plagues caused him to slouch and lean against the heavy door.
"Convince him. I don't know how much more of this we can take."
With a nod, Luigi ventured further into the castle, the atrium growing darker as he carried the torch inside.
Luigi breathed in the familiar scent of smoke and brimstone that permeated the castle, his heart aching. This was his home. All he had ever wanted was right here. The man of his dreams, a child to call his own. Everything that his heart desired was right inside this castle.
But the ends can't justify the means.
In the absence of the normal hustle and bustle that used to echo in these halls, the sound of a mournful piano concerto filled the air.
Bowser.
Following the sound, he walked the empty halls as memory after memory played like a broken record in his mind.
The awkward first meeting, when the Koopa spun him around in an attempt to interrogate him.
The room he was given after staying in the dungeon for all of 30 minutes before the little prince came and broke him out in order to play with him.
Their talks in the library.
The first dinner date where they talked long into the night and into the next morning.
Bonding with Junior.
Their first kiss.
The proposal.
The night they shared after.
He stopped outside the music room door, the piece nearing its end as he tried to quietly open the door to not disturb him right away. Bowser poured his heart out over the music willing the plumber to both stay rooted to his spot on the floor and to run into his arms as the crescendo rang out of the instrument and slowly began to fade, much to his dismay.
"Bravo, mio Re. Bravissimo." Luigi whispered.
The Koopa king was startled, his claws causing the piano to create a cacophony of mixed up notes. Luigi had ended up right at the base of the floating stage. He growled as he caught sight of his former lover.
"Oh, let me guess. Greenie wants me to 'let the kingdoms go'?" Bowser spoke, sarcasm lacing his words.
In the poor light, Luigi was still able to make out the king's hulking frame as he hunched over the piano keys. A golden goblet sat right on top of the piano as he paused to take a gulp from it.
"I... I was hoping to find you here."
"Get out!" He barked, chucking the half-full goblet at the voice.
Luigi quickly dodged as the cup shattered on the floor next to him, the sheer force behind that throw causing a dent in the obsidian stone floor.
"Bowser, we need to talk."
He slowly inched his way closer to the piano before Bowser let out another snarl.
"Oh really? What else do we need to talk about that we didn't discuss the last nine times you were here?"
With a heave, he got up from the piano bench and stomped past him, nearly toppling Luigi over with his spiked tail.
"Now leave. And don't let the door hit you on the way out."
Luigi breathed out a sigh as he tried to keep up with the fleeing Koopa, his gigantic strides causing him to jog to the throne room after him, torch in hand like he was in the opening ceremony for the Olympic games.
If it weren't for the situation, Luigi would have chuckled at himself.
Bowser, meanwhile, was getting agitated. The green man was the one person he most definitely didn't want to see right now. Or ever again, for that matter.
Liar. His heart seemed to reply.
He finally got to the throne room doors and tried to quickly open and close it before Luigi could follow him in. He didn't care if the room would be pitch dark. In fact, he would actually prefer it at the moment. But the presence of a tiny glow of firelight that lit up the dark room made him aware that his efforts of keeping him away were in vain. Luigi had already found a fire pit nearby and threw his torch into it, lighting the pit into flames for the both of them to see each other better.
With a defeated sigh, he stumbled his way towards the throne, slouching and folding his arms with a pout. It took all of Luigi's willpower to not just go up there and kiss that pout away, just like they used to, but there was too much at stake now.
"Well? Get on with it! Tell me how awful I am and how I am such a monster." Bowser interrupted his thoughts.
The human glanced at the Koopa, a hurt expression on his face.
"You're not a monster."
Bowser scoffed.
"Oh really? Then why did you leave, huh? I get the fact that you would have been startled by my plans for world domination, but to up and leave like that?"
Startled? Luigi thought, That was an understatement.
"Did you know that I had to try and explain to Junior why his Mama was missing? Why every time I looked for you, I could never find you? He was crying every night for two weeks straight!"
Luigi was stricken dumb as his heart sank. He never intended to hurt the little prince. Junior might as well be his own heart, he loved that little boy as if he was his own.
And that's why I got to convince him!
"I-"
"And then, you just decide to show up after abandoning us!"
"I didn't -"
"And then-
"WILL YOU JUST LET ME TALK?!"
Bowser jumped in shock, shutting up immediately. No matter how angry he was, Luigi had never yelled at him like that.
He didn't know whether to be scared, pissed, or aroused.
And he didn't know which one he wanted to feel more.
"Bowser, we both know there is no other option. Your people are suffering; the plagues are not going to stop unless you do what's right and let the other kingdoms go."
And... The feeling's gone.
Bowser huffed at that.
"If that is all you have to say, then you might as well see yourself out. I'll take my chances with the plagues."
Luigi growled in frustration. If he had the power to yank this Koopa around and shake him until he had some common sense, he most absolutely would.
"Stars! Why must you act like such a-"
"Like a what?! Go on, say it!"
After a moment of silence, Bowser huffed again, deciding to be petty.
"Well, at least I am not someone's pawn!"
Luigi felt his blood boil at that.
"You take that back!"
"Why?" Bowser sneered, " Does the truth hurt?"
"At least I actually care about what happens to your citizens! You're so willing to let your people get hurt 'cause of what?! Some... stupid sense of pride?!"
"Do you think I like this?! That I like to see the people I love so much suffering?!"
"Then why don't you just let the other kingdoms go, tu... tu esasperante tartaruga?!"
"Because I will not allow myself to be weak again!"
Luigi was stunned into silence. Bowser slumped back onto his throne, emotionally exhausted. It was no secret that Bowser was a very passionate king. It was regarded as his best (and worst) quality, as Princess Peach had attested when he ran to Sarasaland. His love was just as deep and consuming as his rage and both resulted in something breaking.
Or someone.
Luigi sighed. This was getting nowhere, like the other nine times. Suddenly, he had an idea.
"Why don't we just...talk?"
Bowser did not reply, avoiding eye contact with him.
"No arguments, no fighting, just a regular conversation."
Silence. Bowser was not going to budge, not one bit.
Nope.
Not by a long shot.
Let him stew in his-
"I'm sorry for not saying goodbye."
Bowser looked up at that. The plumber stood still, green cap in his hands, his eyes casted towards the floor as he spoke.
"I'm sorry for hurting you like that. For hurting Junior like that. No matter what I saw, what I heard, I should have at least left you a note. But I... I knew that if I didn't go then and there, I would never leave."
Bowser still didn't reply.
Luigi sat down at the foot of his throne, his back turned to the Koopa before he heard him grumble.
"I didn't know where you were. I thought something bad had happened to you and that you were gone forever. And when you came back, I was so relieved. But then..."
He stopped talking, unwilling to speak on that moment.
The day his world seemed to crash and burn.
He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he himself had spent many a restless night sobbing his eyes out. He never had romantic feelings about anyone in his life. Even with Peaches from before his takeover, which he had now understood as an obsessive infatuation. But Luigi was different, even now.
Luigi was the first and only person he had ever truly loved that wasn't his adopted father or his son.
And the first and only one who truly loved him back.
I highly doubt he loves me now, the Koopa King thought.
Luigi felt his eyes well up with tears of shame. He truly didn't take into account just how much his disappearance affected them. Sure, he knew that Bowser would be upset, maybe even feel betrayed, but he didn't mean for him to worry.
"I meant what I said, y'know. When you first came back."
Luigi looked up and met the king's amber eyes as he stared directly at him, watching his every move before he continued.
"You were my everything. The best thing to ever happen to me. And, to be honest, you still are. Even if you don't love me anymore, I still love you. And whatever I did to loose that love, I'm sorry."
The silence was deafening as Bowser laid his heart bare for the plumber. Luigi's own heart seemed to mend and break as his feet seemed to take a mind of their own. He sprinted up the throne steps, climbed atop the throne armrest and hugged him as best as he could before speaking.
"But that's the thing, amore. I never stopped loving you."
It was then that Bowser felt it.
The fluttering of his heart that he tried to ignore as he took Luigi and held him closer.
"Just as beautiful as the day I lost you," Bowser whispered as he cupped Luigi's face with his paw.
He closed the space between them in a kiss. Time seemed to melt away at that moment and it was just the two of them and eternity. The weeks of pain that they went through was inconsequential, it was just them, that moment, forever.
The kiss broke all too soon as they touched foreheads, their eyes closed.
"I love you, mio Re. Tu avrai il mio cuore per sempre." Luigi whispered.
He felt Bowser set him down on the floor him as he opened his eyes, gasping at the sight before him.
"Then stay. Please."
Bowser was on one knee, a heartbreakingly hopeful expression on his face, and in his claws was a golden ring set with emeralds and a large ruby in the middle.
His engagement ring.
The same engagement ring that Bowser proposed with all those months ago in the castle courtyard.
The same engagement ring that he wore when he ran to Sarasaland to meet up with his brother and Princess Peach.
The same engagement ring he wore when Rosalina, Princess of the Lumas, commanded him to go to Bowser and demand for the freedom of all of his conquests.
The same engagement ring he gave back when he returned the first time.
"I-"
"Mama?" A small voice interrupted.
The couple turned around to see a little Koopaling carrying a flashlight in one claw and a teddy bear in the other.
Junior.
Junior couldn't believe his eyes. His Mama was back home where he belonged. Dropping the stuffed animal at the door, he took a running start at the plumber before taking a flying leap into his arms. Luigi caught him and twirled him into a bear hug.
"I missed-ed you!" The little boy sobbed, dampening the front of his denim overalls.
"I missed you too, il mio Principe." He nuzzled the Koopa prince's fiery locks as he held him closer to him.
Bowser looked on as his two greatest joys reunited, his heart ready to burst. Junior had most definitely taken Luigi's disappearance the hardest. His crying and tantrums were loud enough to tear the paint off of the walls, and he even resulted to that when he learned that his Mama came back, demanding his father to let him see him.
And now his wish has come true.
Settling himself into Luigi's arms, Junior nuzzled his face into his shoulder, taking in his smell.
"You're home! I missed-ed you so much and I don't want you to go again! We can go see the new artwork I made for you and Papa and go round on my clown car and...and..."
Bowser laughed, ruffling his boy's head.
"One thing at a time, Junior. Mama just got back, but you have plenty of time to show him everything once he's all rested. Right, Luigi?"
Luigi's smile slowly began to fade, regret shining in his sapphire eyes. Junior, sensed his Mama's hesitation.
"You are staying this time, right Mama?"
With a shuddering breath, he hugged him closer.
"I'm sorry, tesoro. But I can't stay... Not this time."
Bowser felt his mind do a record scratch halt.
After all of that, after he had handed the plumber his battered and bruised heart once again, even after their declarations of love, Luigi had crushed it in his hands, like it was nothing. And now he has broken their son's heart in return.
"B-but, why?" Junior cried, tears forming in his crimson eyes.
Luigi was silent as Bowser gave a mirthless chuckle.
"Y'know, Luigi? You really had me there for a second."
"Bowser, I-"
"All those declarations of love you just spewed out, just gotta hit 'em where it hurts, right? So go ahead Luigi," Bowser baited, "Tell us. Why?"
"Because... because what you're doing isn't right and you know it, Bowser."
"Right? And what is right? Before I took over, those kingdoms were rife with war and famine, both with us and with each other! The citizens of those other kingdoms were treated unfairly, their leaders did nothing to help the poor and marginalized, so I instilled order by dethroning their corrupt leaders. And I don't know what "Princess" Peach or your nuisance of a brother tried to sell you about what the Mushroom Kingdom was like before, but it was not some happy-go-lucky utopia. In fact, her forefathers had once enslaved my entire kingdom for centuries. Enslaved, Luigi! Treated us like the scum of the earth! Made us fight to the death for their own wars and amusement!"
"And how is that any different, Bowser? How is taking over kingdoms by force any different from what the Mushroom Kingdom did to yours?"
"Because at least I can protect them just like I protect my own kingdom! Or at least I did, until you came along and brought these plagues down upon us!"
Here we go again! Luigi mourned.
"I'm not, Bowser. You are. The more you resist, the worse the plagues will be. If you would just please listen-"
Luigi reaches out his hand to touch his golden scales, but the king flinched away, his temper growing less and less restrained.
"I will not be dictated to. I will not be threatened. I am the morning and evening star. I am Bowser! King of the Koopas!"
"Something else is coming, something much worse than anything before. Please, let go of your contempt for life before it destroys everything we hold dear. Think of our son!"
Bowser looked down as Junior clung onto Luigi's overalls, terrified but unwilling to let go of his Mama as he placed a gloved hand on his tuft of red hair. A moment ago, Luigi's claim to his little boy would have softened his heart, but now all he felt was rage. With a roar of betrayal, he punched his throne, hearing the distinct sound of metal being snapped in half and gems crushing under his palm.
"I do." He growled at last, "And fuck me for not doing this before."
Luigi felt his breath hitch in fear.
"Bowser? Bowser, what are you-?"
"Kamek! Get in here, now!"
With a pop, Kamek appeared on his broomstick, a worried look etched into his face.
"Yes, Your Wrathfulness?"
"Call the troopas! Tomorrow, we attack Sarasaland and destroy all who stand in my way, once and for all! Starting with Mario!"
He turned to the love of his life, a hateful sneer gracing his maw.
"And there will be a great cry throughout all the kingdoms, such as there never has been or ever will be again!"
Luigi's blood froze in his veins as he felt his knees sink to the floor, his grip on Junior growing tighter.
Bowser briefly stole one last glance at his family before glancing down at the crushed ring in his hands, a flash of regret and pain shining in his eyes before stomping past them as he and Kamek made preparations for a full-on ambush. .
The elder mage and the young man gave each other a horrified, knowing glance before the plumber broke down into sobs as king and advisor left.
He was right about one thing: tomorrow, there will be a great cry throughout the kingdoms.
But both his and Bowser's sobs will echo the loudest of all.
You failed. The words buzzed around his mind like an angry swarm of hornets.
"Bowser," He whispered sorrowfully, hugging their scared son for what would be the last time, "You have doomed us all."

☝️ this is me, mourning the golden age of Tumblr and times when people talked about SuJu more
hi, I'm annie, '91 line, from the UK. minors dni, with love. it makes me feel icky talking to young people now I'm over 30.
I miss having friends to talk about SuJu and their antics with, so if anyone wants to chat/fangirl/flail about Super Junior, my asks are always open
if anybody out there still wants to read Super Junior fics, I'm happy to write requests. my masterlist includes titles of fics that are half written and rotting in my google docs, but if anyone has any specific scenes they'd like to read... I will write pretty much anything, as long as it's about Super Junior, and as long as it's consensual and legal
all fics are now cross-posted on ao3
and this is also me, looking into the wilderness hoping to make some SuJu friends👇

TYPE: One-shot (bite sized!)
JURISDICTION: It’s feelings realization, your honor.
PAIRING: Jin Ling/Lan Sizhui
SIDE CHARACTERS: Lan Jingyi, unnamed town girls
ELEMENTS: Town setting, canon universe, first kiss, Jin Ling POV, internal monologue, awkward juniors being awkward because feelings are confusing~
He doesn’t ask what’s wrong with himself because it’s obvious now—why he doesn’t know how to talk to girls, why it bothers him to see Lan Sizhui so natural at it, why it hurts so much to walk away from him.
Stupidly perfect, charming Lan Sizhui.
In which Jin Ling is bad at feelings, Lan Sizhui’s ‘people-pleasing’ is mistaken as flirting and both discover the magic of (young and awkward) communication.
{ AO3 }
🍁
Jin Ling doesn’t know how to talk to girls.
In fact, he’s better at scaring them away more than anything. Lan Jingyi doesn’t know how to talk to girls either, which makes Jin Ling feel better knowing there’s someone equally as hopeless as him—and let’s face it, it would be devastatingly embarrassing if Lan Jingyi out of all people were better at courting than him.
The thing is, no matter how much Lan Jingyi sucks at talking to girls, he still seems to enjoy it.
Jin Ling doesn’t.
And because of this, he feels like there’s something wrong with him beyond terrible social skills. That’s why, when he sees Lan Sizhui easily talking to girls as though it’s second nature, he experiences a crushing mix of jealousy and despair.
Jealousy because he’s better than Jin Ling at something? Maybe. Despair for the same reason? Possibly. But Jin Ling doesn’t even like talking to girls, or other people in general, so this reasoning doesn’t quite make sense.
They’re at the docks of a new town, going through the same routine as usual: a flock of girls their age oohs and ahhs at the young cultivators of the esteemed Lan clan, then swarms Lan Sizhui in particular—all batting eyelashes and playful smiles as they bombard him with questions.
And Lan Sizhui, a gentleman to a fault, humors them, laughs with them, matches their smiles in all the right ways at all the right times, making the group of pretty young girls swoon.
But it isn’t fair because Lan Sizhui’s smile could make anyone swoon, including Jin Ling—Wait, he thinks, What?!
Jin Ling glances at Lan Jingyi who definitely isn’t swooning and, instead, is dreamily staring at (and salivating over) the contents of a nearby food stall.
The fishermen are tending to their catches, the shopkeepers are peddling their wares, the children are chasing each other around the docks. No one is swooning over Lan Sizhui’s handsome smile except the girls… and Jin Ling.
He digs his nails into his hand to bring himself back to his senses. What the hell is wrong with me?
One of the girls makes Lan Sizhui laugh—a beautiful, carefree, genuine laugh—and Jin Ling’s heart drops.
Stupidly perfect, charming Lan Sizhui.
The three young cultivators stop at a tea house, still accompanied by the giggling group of girls who insist on showing them around.
They take their seats inside and Jin Ling scrunches his nose at the way the girls strategically position themselves on both sides of Lan Sizhui. Not even Lan Jingyi is given the chance to claim a seat next to his best friend.
Lan Sizhui graciously pours everyone tea while the girls argue about who gets to pour his. Lan Jingyi clings onto the conversation by telling unprompted jokes and Jin Ling tries to drown out the noise by lazily resting his cheek on his fist and staring at the wall.
Half an hour goes by in what seems like seconds and Jin Ling hasn’t spoken a word. No one seems to notice his silence or the very clear boredom and annoyance plastered on his face.
He suddenly stands up and smooths his hands over his robes. “I’m going for a walk.”
“Wait,” Lan Sizhui calls, his face swimming with something Jin Ling can’t quite place. Worry? Anxiety?
“I’ll go with you,” he says, trying to stand up but the girls suddenly whine and paw at his robes, tugging him back down to his seat.
Jin Ling rolls his eyes at the pathetic sight. “Don’t bother. I won’t be gone long anyway.”
Lan Sizhui frowns and Jin Ling doesn’t understand why. Surely, if Wei Wuxian were here, he’d be egging the Lan boy on, telling him how proud he is, how Lan Sizhui is such a heartbreaker (because my god, is he ever).
Without another word, Jin Ling reluctantly tears his gaze from Lan Sizhui, walks out of the tea house and into the street. His head pounds, his heart aches, the world drains of color.
He doesn’t ask what’s wrong with himself because it’s obvious now—why he doesn’t know how to talk to girls, why it bothers him to see Lan Sizhui so natural at it, why it hurts so much to walk away from him.
Stupidly perfect, charming Lan Sizhui.
Jin Ling sits on a crescent moon bridge in a spacious garden, idly dipping a cattail stalk into the pond below and watching as a colorful spectrum of koi fish nip at what they think is food.
The town’s bustle and noise is muffled enough that he can finally hear himself think. No one else is in the garden but him and he hopes it stays that way.
The problem is, he doesn’t know what to think about. He doesn’t know if thinking is even worth it.
All he knows is that he wants to be alone. He hates to be alone. He hates him. He wants him. He wants, he hates, he—
“Young Master Jin?”
The cattail falls into the pond and Jin Ling’s chest fills with light. He looks up at Lan Sizhui, at his starlight skin shaming the sun, at his soft, downturned lips parted with visible worry, at his raven hair dusting the top of his gentle amethyst eyes.
He hates him.
“May I sit?” Lan Sizhui asks, a sheepish smile on his face.
No, Jin Ling thinks as he looks back down at the pond and scoots over. Lan Sizhui sits next to him and curiously stares down at the koi fish.
“Where’s your entourage?” Jin Ling asks, trying to sound as disinterested as possible.
“Oh,” Lan Sizhui smiles, “I left them with Jingyi at the tea house.”
Jin Ling huffs, his bangs fluttering forward like a curtain. “I can’t tell if that’s a blessing or a curse.”
A soft chuckle escapes Lan Sizhui’s lips, low and sweet like chimes in the wind. Jin Ling draws his knees up to his chest and plants his chin between them, hugging his shins.
He wants him.
“They didn’t seem to mind,” Lan Sizhui assures, “And I was worried about you. I wanted to find you and apologize—“
Jin Ling snaps his head up and stares at him. “Huh? For what?”
“For neglecting you at the tea house,” Lan Sizhui frowns, regret flooding his voice. “I was trying to be polite to the girls, but…” He thinks for a moment then shakes his head. “That’s not an excuse to ignore my friends. I’m sorry.”
Jin Ling wants to keep being angry but his heart betrays him. Because Lan Sizhui is looking directly into his eyes, because his apology is earnest and true, because he’s genuinely afraid he hurt Jin Ling’s feelings.
And he did. He did.
So why can’t Jin Ling stay mad at him? He’s horrified by the words that seem to subconsciously spill out of his mouth. “It’s okay.”
But it’s not okay and they both know it. Lan Sizhui knows it by looking at Jin Ling, and Jin Ling knows it by the way Lan Sizhui makes him feel like his heart’s been thrown into a furnace full of fireworks.
He hates him.
“You talk to a lot of girls,” Jin Ling quietly mumbles, almost hoping Lan Sizhui won’t hear him. “Don’t you like any of them?”
Lan Sizhui’s a bit taken aback by the question but ponders it for a moment before replying, “It’s important to show others courtesy and respect. When someone talks to me, I acknowledge them because it’s the polite thing to do.”
“Lan sect rules?” Jin Ling teases.
Lan Sizhui laughs. “Human rules.”
Jin Ling suddenly wonders if maybe he’s not bad at talking to people. Maybe he’s just bad at being human.
“If you really want to know,” Lan Sizhui starts, “I can’t like someone in… that way if I’ve only just met them. I have to be friends with them first.”
Heat invades Jin Ling’s cheeks and he hugs his knees tighter while recalling Lan Sizhui’s words from earlier: ‘That’s not an excuse to ignore my friends.’
Could he mean…? Maybe…?
Jin Ling mentally curses at himself. Don’t be stupid. “Then… do you like any of your friends?”
You absolute idiot.
Lan Sizhui blushes and Jin Ling can’t look at him because if he looks at him, he’ll crack and say too much and ruin everything and—
“Yes,” Lan Sizhui answers.
He wants him.
“And… and I hope he likes me too.”
He.
The silence between them is deafening, terrifying, revealing. The type of silence words can’t fill but actions can.
It’s too much and Jin Ling caves. He’s looking at him now. Amber eyes burn in the violet reflection of Lan Sizhui’s intense, hopeful stare.
Stupidly…
Their fingers touch and a fire ignites.
Perfect…
Warm breath against skin, time slows down.
Charming…
Their lips meet and the world stops.
Lan Sizhui.
He loves him.

There were a lot of gossips about your superior, Doctor Jung’s secret works, where he invited surgeon residents to his private clinic to help him out. Afterwards, no one talked a word about it. Then, your time came. He took you there too, and you did your best to do exactly what your job was in the hospital: saving people’s lives. You just didn’t know who’s life it was this time.
Previous | Next
You don’t exactly remember when you fell asleep. All you could focus on was the feather-light touches on and around your nipple. You felt something soft and wet trail a slow path up to your left one from your rib cage. Cool air licked your skin, making your nipple harden even more.
The fog cleared from your head as you woke up, memories flooding you. Ah, you fell asleep in the shower, barely remembering Eunhyuk carrying you to bed. It was almost morning, when the night finally ended for you two.
You let out a breathy moan as the man sucked your nipple into his mouth. His tongue slowly circled around it, then gave it a rather harsh bite.
“Did no one ever told you how rude it is pretending to be asleep?” His voice was raspy, but playful.
You rubbed your thighs together, feeling your own wetness making your skin slick before answering Eunhyuk’s question.
“Not pretending. Just enjoying certain pleasures.”
He hummed thoughtfully at that.
“Ah, yes. Certain pleasures… and pains.”
Upon his last word, his mouth was back on you, biting so hard this time, you knew it will leave a bruise. And you didn’t mind. A little reminder for you.
Just as you thought back the multiple orgasms and positions you enjoyed with him, Eunhyuk slipped his hand between your thighs, stopping for a moment when he felt the slickness on your skin.
“And here I was thinking that I perfectly satisfied your hunger. Yet, you are just as wet when I first tasted this sweet pussy of yours.”
His hand wandered further up, until he finally reached your core, instantly slipping a slender finger inside. You opened your eyes at the sensation. His dark ones mirrored the hunger you felt.
He shimmied closer on the cheap, white sheet of your bed, pushing his hard dick into your side. Your mouth filled with saliva as you remembered how it felt on your tongue last night; the face he made when he came into your mouth was divine.
You let your thoughts run free. You pushed Eunhyuk on his back and lowered yourself on him without hesitation. He was harder than ever. Your moans echoed back from the empty walls.
‘The only thing we haven’t tried from his little list,’ you thought, and started to slowly move on him. Up and down, sometimes rubbing yourself back and forth for your own pleasure.
He had you on almost every surface your apartment could offer, yet you never got to riding him. What was it that he said? Watching your breasts move as you ride him? Then that’s what he’s gonna get.
You kept switching your rhythm and directions. Eunhyuk’s gaze flickered between your breasts and eyes. He looked at you like he figured your little game out. How you wanted to make him loose his mind before your only night together ends.
And he seemed to remember your words, too, since he never made a move to touch you since you sat on his dick. Furrowing your eyebrows, you realized how wrong you were. You grabbed his hands, placing one on your hip, making the other grab your breast. His dark tattoos made a nice contrast with your ink-virgin skin.
“I thought you wanted full control while riding me,” he said; dark eyes glinting with mischief.
“I changed my mind.”
You lowered yourself, stealing a quick kiss. Eunhyuk had other things on his mind. His hand left your nipple and grabbed the back of your head, not letting your lips get too far from his.
“I changed it, too. Touch yourself while riding me.”
Your hand immediately followed his instruction, sensually rubbing your clit, but not before dipping your fingers into his mouth to make them wet. You were eagerly waiting where this was going.
“Good girl,” Eunhyuk breathed into your mouth. Now both his hands were on your thighs, only helping you move, but not taking your control away. “Do it as you would when alone. I want you to make yourself come on my dick. I want you to fuck yourself with it.”
Momentarily, he closed his eyes and took a sharp breath as you sank particularly fast and deep on him after a few shallow moves. Only then did he continue.
“Use me for your pleasure. I want your tight little pussy flutter around me. Want to feel it trying to strangle my dick as it pulses during your high.”
His words made things to your body. Or maybe it was the combination of your fingers on your clit and his dick constantly hitting just the right spot in you. Whatever it was, you came with a strangled scream just as his last words left his mouth. Eunhyuk seemed to follow you to your high – his hands gripped your skin, locking you in place. You felt his dick pulsate in you.
After a few seconds only your labored breathing could be heard, and you giddily chuckled to yourself. You were laying on his chest, not caring for a thing in the world, only listening to his rapid heartbeat and enjoying the afterglow of your orgasm.
“Did this night help you with your problem with me distracting you?”
Your voice was quite, not wanting to move just yet. But you had to. Your alarm went off, and Eunhyuk was faster on his feet than you could shut the damn thing off.
“I’ll tell you soon.”
He threw the words at you over his shoulder. After finding and putting his clothes back on, you could only hear the door closing behind him.
After getting ready for work, you met Shindong across the street of your apartment. He was thoughtful enough to not say anything about his boss not leaving until half an hour earlier or your tired appearance. And you never asked if he had to sleep in his car because of it.
Watching houses and shops pass by through the window, you unfocused your eyes, not really seeing the outside world. Sometimes a person here and there managed to catch your attention: like a little girl almost running into the street. His mother caught her wrist in time, luckily. Or the old man walking on the pavement with a cane and a few heavy looking shopping bags. A teenager approached him, taking over some of his load. Moment like these restored your faith in humanity. It made you think of your job, that it was worth spending all those long hours at the hospital. You could never knew how many people you saved from mourning their loved ones.
A man also caught your eyes. You only saw his back, but you were almost certain it was him. Not knowing his name, just his face. It was burned deep into your memories, haunted you in your nightmares. Not that you would ever admit it to anyone.
Taking a quick look back as you passed by, you watched the man disappear through the door of the police station.
With furrowed eyebrows, you turned to Shindong. A glance at you, and he knew something was troubling you.
“Just spit it out.”
“I think… No, I know I just saw my attacker walk into the police station.”
Shindong didn’t reply immediately. Didn’t even look at you. Focusing on the road ahead, he maneuvered the car in the traffic almost elegantly.
At a red light, he asked:
“The one who visited you at the hospital?”
“Yes. Why would he go to the police?”
“Maybe he decided to give himself up for breaking into your place and beating you.”
You snorted at that.
“I never even made a report about it.”
“And you never will. We handle these things in our own circle, not by dragging the police into it.”
Another long pause.
You only spoke up again when Shindong stopped the car at the hospital.
“Then why would he go there?”
“I have no fucking idea.”
Lately, wherever Jung was at work, you were there, too. It was unsaid, but he took you under his wings. Not one soul dared to say he became your mentor, but the fact was apparent to anyone. Even the whispers about his secret work halted.
Nurses were the first to notice Shindong’s presence around the hospital: him coincidentally appearing wherever you and Jung were. Some of them were smart, coming to a conclusion that he was guarding someone. But they couldn’t figure out who; you or Jung. And when nurses knew something, soon after the whole hospital would know of it.
Maybe that was the reason why Ryeowook rarely looked for your company as of late.
Jung was on ER duty, you tagged along. He didn’t tell you to, you seemed to follow him a lot.
He was a smart man. Smart and had the talented hands of a surgeon. You wanted to be like him one day: cold and cynical in the operating room, only focusing on the task at hand: saving the person’s life who laid on his table.
Being in the ER with Jung meant two things for you: learning from him and taking over a nurse’s tasks. You enjoyed it, because Shindong never followed you here.
The day was slow. Nothing big happening, surprisingly. A woman who cut her finger off while making dinner, a kid who fell and hit his head (their parents were fretting over him a little too much, which seemed to annoy Jung, you noted), a lady with migraine.
Jung was sipping on some coffee in the break room, while you were waiting on some lab results regarding a patient with heavy abdominal and lower back pain. Most likely kidney stones, according to Jung.
The doctor himself seemed to be really immersed in his drink, so you didn’t expect his next words:
“You were late today.”
You only cocked an eyebrow at him, not knowing where this was going. He sighed, when he finally looked at you.
“You have not once been late from work since you started here.” Taking a sip of your coffee, you stole a glance at the closed door of the room. Your silence encouraged him to speak more freely.
“I drove by your place last night.”
You decided to play safe by being nonchalant about his words.
“And?”
“I saw Eunhyuk’s car outside your place. You can imagine my surprise, when I found Shindong sitting in your car and he informed me what you were possibly doing up there.”
You heaved a sigh. You couldn’t place the accusing tone in the doctor’s voice.
“What does it have to do with anything?”
“Eunhyuk may saved my life more than once, Y/N, but I have to warn you! Don’t mix business and pleasure. He is good to his people, but being emotionally entangled with him… It won’t end well, trust me.”
“Who said anything about emotions?” Your voice was cool despite the topic. Your face heated up when Jung placed a warm hand on yours. His eyes were almost begging.
“I have known Eunhyuk for years. Never, not even once have I seen him so obviously show interest in a woman. Even if it as you say, with no emotions involved, you are putting a target on your back. A much bigger one than you already have on you. I don’t want to see you get hurt again… or end up heartbroken.”
It looked like Jung was finished with the conversation. He drank the last of his coffee, put his mug in the sink and left you alone with your thoughts.
And oh boy, they were a swirling mess.
You wanted to ask Jung what he was doing last night at your place. Wanted to know what he meant by him never seeing Eunhyuk showing interest in women. But mostly, you wanted to know why the doctor was trying to protect you so much.
Deep down, you knew he was right. You were only going to get hurt in the end. Emotionally or physically, you didn’t know yet.
Jung kept his mouth shut about Eunhyuk for the rest of your shift. He talked about common things, politics, even asked about your mother and your plans for visiting her. You dismissed the latter topic with a roll of your eyes.
You loved your mother, but on many occasions her love and worry for you could be overwhelming. Phone calls here and there, rare visits was your way of communicating with her. Especially now. You wouldn’t want Eunhyuk’s enemies get to her. They couldn’t get you to talk, they might try to make you by hurting your loved ones.
After a quick shower and changing back into your clothes, you were informed by Jung that Eunhyuk had requested both of your presence at his place. His words, not yours. The pompous ass, you thought.
So you all got into your car, Shindong driving without really telling you where you all were going. You tried to pay attention to your surroundings, but it was late and you were tired. The less you knew about the mafia boss, the better.
The area where you finally stopped was one where even you wouldn’t dare to live. The street was empty, the houses looked abandoned, but in some windows you saw lights flickering. A place for homeless people? Or for men with illegal businesses.
It looked like Jung knew his way around here, as he lead you to a ragged door, Shindong following closely. The doctor’s three knocks were almost inaudible in the night, but someone on the other side was expecting you, because it opened immediately.
You recognized the young man you patched up a few weeks earlier. He greeted you with a smile that didn’t match with the place or the work he was doing. It was honest and warm, but again, he was young.
“Good to see you again, Doc!”
You struggled to remember his name, so you just nodded at him with a tentative smile.
The boy remained at the door, and Shindong went forward, leading you where you were supposed to be. You seemingly went down to the basement. The place was large and quite disgusting. It was mostly empty, save for the chair in the middle that Eunhyuk was currently occupying. Donghae stood close to his right.
You looked at him. Your skin warmed and something in your stomach churned when your eyes met. He spoke up, his gaze falling to a man you haven’t noticed yet. But when you did, all air left your lungs. Even heavily beaten and painted with bruises, you recognized the man who broke into your home. The one, who hit you into a concussion.
“Is it the one who beat you up?” There was something dangerous in Eunhyuk’s voice. You wouldn’t call it anger. It was much more sinister.
“Yes.” Your own voice was quite. You couldn’t rip your eyes away from the man kneeling in front of the mafia boss.
“Is it the one who you saw this morning?”
Of course Shindong informed him about who you saw on your way to work. You also noticed how Eunhyuk never mentioned where the man was going. You couldn’t decide whether it was intentional or not, so you kept your words to the minimum. It wouldn’t be that your bodyguard haven’t told him every detail.
“No.”
Eunhyuk hummed, his next words came out yonderly:
“I was never fond of moles. And by the looks of it, you have one attached to you. What a shame you won’t be there to alert your little boss.”
Then, he lazily lifted a hand, signaling something to Donghae.
It’s as if you watched it in slow motion. By the time Eunhyuk let his hand back down, his most trusted man had a gun in his hand, pointing it at the man on the ground.
The sound of the shot was loud, your ears rang as it echoed back from the walls. Your body seemed to freeze in place. Blood splattered on the dirty ground and the man tumbled forward lifelessly. Shindong moved a little closer to you, you felt his presence on your side, which weirdly made you feel safe.
Locking eyes with Eunhyuk, the world seemed to fill with life again. You heard Donghae bark into his phone for someone to get there and clean up the mess.
Jung cleared his throat as your bodyguard said:
“It was too merciful of a death for the bastard.”
The mafia boss emerged from his seat, maneuvering around the dead body, all while keeping his eyes on you. At the flick of his hand, you heard Jung and Shindong leaving from behind you.
When he was finally standing in front of you, you let out a ragged breath, you didn’t know you were holding back.
“It wasn’t enough. I am not finished with you yet.” The seductive undertone in his voice did things to you, but Eunhyuk just waved at you to leave. So you did. But anticipation made your head fuzzy for the drive home, and only in the car did you realize that Eunhyuk caressed your hand before you left.
Jung’s warning from earlier kept repeating in your head while you tried to fall asleep that night.
