It's interesting that Oda chose to have Mihawk be the one to point out Luffy's most powerful ability here - the ability to recruit powerful allies to his side. Because Mihawk notably is a pirate crew of only one. He sails the seas alone with no one but his trusted blade Yoru by his side.

It really makes me wonder about Mihawk's past, if he somehow was betrayed by someone causing him to keep others at a distance. Regardless, he can certainly still recognize the importance of having allies, and we all know Luffy would've been dead countless times over if not for his friends.
