This is something that’s been running rampant on my mind for a couple years now so ima share it with yall here since it’s about one of my favorite hyperfixations. So let’s talk about
Pokémon Legends Arceus — misinterpreting art direction
By Bri/gobbo
Pokémon legends arceus or PLA for short, came out two years ago (almost now) of January 2022 to much anticipation of long time fans. Many of which being artists (like me) with a compelling premise and enticing story and worldbuilding the game was a hit if you ignore complaints of non fans and snobs.
So… what’s the deal?
Unfortunately as demand and quota rises the need to produce and release content gets worse and worse for the industry as with harsh deadlines, the long time need for quality is cut off by the need for deadlines. Which is why I am at ease to know that we were given the announcement from gamefreak and the Pokémon company that the next game would take two years instead of the short one year delay for the next installment to the main game or side game lines. But I’m not just saying this to fill this with words, my point is to stress the toxic work environment that many people in the industry go through but given this news is an opportunity to look forward to the wellbeing of both the people behind this franchise and game as well as the attention to detail that goes into each release.
Pt II — graphics
My second and main gripe I’ve held is to the complaints of how the game looks. Which I don’t get, it might be because I had only recently taken art history while in college (which I would highly recommend taking because it will change the way you see the world!) or could be wearing “toxic nostalgic lenses” that cloud judgement. This won’t change the fact that I don’t see any story or visual issues with the *look* of the game.
Backgrounds:
From close observation into the textures of the plants and trees in PLA I could tell off the bat that it was meant to resemble or what I theorize to be based on traditional ink painting or Sumi-e. The distinct weight of the leaves and bark may just be standard textures but through a stringent lense you can see the dilution and bleed of line. A lot of landscapes are often a meditation through each stroke of the brush the piece reveals a serene whimsy view.
The Pokémon
“Oh the pokedex should’ve had more style and traditional pieces!” —a exaggeration and summary of what I’ve heard on YouTube who’ve discussed the visuals of PLA
I think in terms of one of the main missions and plot line of PLA is to create the first pokedex! and for something so important to the safety of humans who are coming to settle in Hisui/Sinnoh they need to have access to a book with images as soon as possible with enough for everyone. It makes sense for the Pokémon to look “flat” as there’s one traditional art form that has made the spread of Japanese art possible; woodblock prints or as it’s called:
“Ukiyo-e”
But outside of the pokedex the models of the pokemon are just as good with the same inky look that the backgrounds and game has already!
Also shiny hunting… but I’m getting ahead of myself!
My point for this is simply to not judge and criticize a work without getting a proper understanding of the culture and art history that might’ve gone into the piece!
And it’s also why I’ve been going absolutely feral for PLZA because WERE GETTING KALOS DURING MY FAVORITE PERIOD OF ART AND WRITING HISTORY!!!!
Romantic period and realism!
Which means…
THE OUTFITS ARE GONNA BE GOOOOOD!!!!!
Also hisuian lilligant is based on a figure skater…

The Kazama & Mishima’s naming traditions and the Next Gens of Kazama’s children!
Alright so I've been cooking this for a while since they dropped Jun's parents name on T8. Bear in mind, I'm in no way fluent in Japanese nor I'm a native, but I have google on my side to educate me better about Japanese naming systems and the kanji they used for naming the child (jinmeiyo and joyo).
I just want to named XiaoJin’s future babies so bad, kay?! Lol. Even though I know Jin is opposed to any plan of continuing the lineage (which is heartbreaking 😭💔) but the XiaoJin's shipper in me cannot be extinguished!! 🔥🔥🔥 I still want to named them! Lol.
Anyway! Feel free to correct me with your information! I'm open to any kind of knowledge 💖
Psst! If you don't want to read these longass founds and explanation, you can jump right away to the bottom of this post, there’s a pic that summarise these texts, lol.
Alrightt! Without further ado, let's deep dive into Kazama/Mishima lore!!
================================================
.
.
.
So...
Tekken 8 has finally dropped some lore about Kazama family, and it's about Jun to be exact. There, we can get a glimpse of Jun's parent name:
Soon after, a Japanese KazuJun's fan dropped this tweet :
Assuming a native Japanese able to decipher those characters correctly, now we finally have Jun's parents name kanji:
純一 the father, and 恵 the mother.
As we all know, kanji has several way of reading. Cited from pon-navi, there are two typical ways of reading kanji, kun-yomi and on-yomi. In addition, there is a reading system called "jinmei kun" which is used only for names.
"Soo?? What's their name?! How do we know the correct reading?!"
Here's the thing!!
Tekken has giving us hints that Mishima family has a tradition to give their children with their kanji name, following a common practice in Japan. Let's take a look at their kanji.
仁八, Jinpachi
平八, Heihachi & 一美, Kazumi
一八, Kazuya
Notice the similarities? You’re right! The Mishima child inherited their parents' kanji! The sons inherit '八' kanji, with Heihachi inherited '八' from Jinpachi and Kazuya inherited both kanji from Heihachi (八) and Kazumi (一).
As it is a common practice, the same can be said with the Kazama family! Although in their case, they might not be inheriting the kanji but instead with the reading of the said character. Or maybe phonetically similar would be correct here.
For example, this is Jun's kanji: 準
This character '準' can be read several ways, some of them are : Jun, shun, setsu, taira, toshi, narau, nori, hitoshi.
And one of her father kanji is: 純
'純' can be read as : kito, Jun, atsu, atsushi, aya, itaru, ito, kiyoshi, sunao, sumi, tsuna, to, makoto, yoshi.
Have you noticed it? That's right! '純' and '準' can be both read as Jun! It means that Jun's kanji has the same reading as her father's kanji, although they have different kanji characters.
From here, we can assume that Jun's father can be called Jun____ as well.
As for the other kanji, '一' can be read as: hito, hitotsu, hajime, ichi, itsu, i, osamu, kuni, susumu, tada, chi, nobu, hajimu, hajime, hi, hiji, hide, hitoshi, makoto, masashi, moto, ka, kazu, kata, atsu.
Looking from the lists, together his name could be read most plausibly as : Junichi, Junitsu, or Juni. Imo, Junichi sounds the best, so yeah, I completely agree with the KazuJun's fan.
Now we all know that Kazama has similar sounding name with different kanji.
On the other hand, the mother has '恵' that can be read as: megumu, megumi, kei, e, aya, sato, satoshi, shige, toshi, yasu, yoshi.
While it could be anything, I think it's either Megumi or Megumu. Why? Because I found out that '恵' has the same reading as one of Jin's kanji reading! lol. Let's take a look at Jin's kanji!
This is Jin's kanji: 仁
It can be read as: Jin, ni, nin, kimi, kimu, sato, sane, shinobu, tadashi, to, toyo, nobu, nori, hisashi, hito, hitoshi, hiroshi, masa, masashi, mi, megumi, megumu, yasushi, yoshi.
Do you find it? Both '恵' and '仁' can be read as Megumi/Megumu! lol.
One of the speculation is that Jun named her son Jin as a sign of respect to her father in law, Jinpachi (仁八). Even though Jin is a Mishima by blood, he doesn't inherit the '八' character as he was raised in Kazama family. So he inherited just the '仁' character. Besides, it also sounds almost the same. Jun.. Jin.. It's phonetically similar, right? And if Jin were born a girl, I bet he would be called Megumi/Megumu instead just like his grandmother, lol.
Thus, we can safely conclude that the Mishima has the habit to inherit their kanji characters while the Kazama inherit the reading of their kanji's name.
================================================
AND NOW! HERE COMES THE MAIN DISH!!!! 💖💖💖
What about the future Kazama kids?! Let’s move on to that and do the real cooking here for the XiaoJin's babies name! :D
We have seen Jin's kanji, but what about Xiayou?? Xiaoyu is Chinese by birth, and her hanzi (Chinese characters) are 凌曉雨 and リン・シャオユウ is how it's written in Japanese katakana.
凌, Líng: surpass / リン (Rin)
曉, Xiao: dawn / シャオ (Shao)
雨, Yu: rain / ユウ (Yu)
Now, I'd like to think that they would combine or use either their character or its reading for their baby! Also! They might use some of Jin's family name's characters :D
Here are some of my ideas for the babies name :
For boy:
晨一, Shinichi, a portmanteau of Jin and Xiaoyu's nickname and kanji inherited from Junichi/Kazuya.
Explanation: the first kanji '晨' means Dawn, which has the same meaning as Xiaoyu hanzi '曉'. The kanji reading is also the combination of Xiaoyu's nickname and Jin. Shao+Jin=Shin. It also sounds similar. Jin, Shin, it's rhyming, right? Just like Jun and Jin!
For the second kanji '一' I'd like to think the story behind it was that Xiaoyu wanted to preserve Kazama/Mishima naming practice but Jin was reluctant to do it. In the end, they decided to take the kanji '一' which was present in both Kazama and Mishima, that's in Junichi (純一) and Kazuya (一八).
For girl :
凌, Shino, a portmanteau of Xiaoyu's nickname and Jin, same character as Xiao’s hanzi that could also be the feminine ver. of Shin.
Explanation: it’s rather simple, I use the same character in Xiaoyu’s hanzi that has different reading while also the combination of Jin and Xiaoyu’s name. In Chinese ‘凌’ read as Ling but in Japanese, ‘凌’ has several reading. One of them is Shino. Shino could be the sister or the twin sister of Shinichi, in case XiaoJin have two child or twins in the future :)
琳, Rin, a kanji that has the same reading as Xiaoyu’s name and phonetically similar with Jin.
Explanation: I think this one is easy to understand! Rin and Jin, phonetically similar like what Kazama would've named their children. It’s also Xiaoyu’s surname in Japanese. The kanji ‘琳’ itself means ‘beautiful jewel’ and in Chinese the hanzi means 'beautiful jade’, and it reminds them of the greens in Yakushima forest, Jin's home.
.
.
.
================================================
Alright, now that I’ve spilled out all of the stuff inside my chest and calmed down, I’ll give you a simple name chart for those who don’t want to read wall of texts, lol. Hope this helps!
I guess that’s all for now, lol. I’ll add my thoughts if I had any later on. Thank you for coming to my TED talk! 😂🙏

I find it amazing how Nishimori never seems to run out of music or lyrics for William's inner struggles. We've seen it a bit of it in Op. 3 and and it was oh so very painful in Op. 4, yet now that his death (or at least, what William thinks to be his death) is approaching, it feels even more painful. It's the heavy kind of pain that really sucks your soul.

More About E-Nishka I
These just don't really fit in a timeline format. Plus more beyond the timeline I've already written.
The Ingrimm was a gift from E-Sumi when he joined the Seedseer Council.
It looked like the vanilla Ingrimm (Bozjan relic) prior to Oha-Sok inhabiting it, after which it grew many more flowers.
Oha-Sok herself is mostly dormant, especially when out of the Twelveswood. She still doesn't like war and violence, so she doesn't like to really be present for a lot of things.
When he is on the First, Oha-Sok's presence completely disappears, which is what shocks him the most. Upon returning to the Source, however, it's like she never left.
The events of both the CNJ and WHM quests of ARR+ occur but I have to think about where on the timeline they occur exactly.
Pokcha Pokk is forbidden from showing herself outside of the Shroud, even though most people can't see her anyway. This is because she says the most insane things at the most insane times.
She almost fought all the moogles of Moghome. Like it was ON SIGHT. She sadly would not have won.
Yda and Papalymo don't actually invite E-Nishka to the Scions because they're not necessarily aware he has the Echo. Instead, it's Thancred who invites him when he's in Thanalan as the envoy (and the majority of the Ul'dah starting quests occur).
Though he hasn't been mentioned often, Adel becomes a Crystal Brave and then eventually a part of the Scions proper when that dissolves.
E-Nishka won Adel over with food. The way to a man's loyalty is through his stomach, of course. Especially when you've been getting by on scraps since Garlemald invaded your home.
Whenever E-Nishka ventures into a new place, he makes sure to try the local cuisine. It's by far his favorite aspect of traveling. He also collects recipes from the locals as well.
Adel was called to the First at about the same time Thancred was (a little after). While he's on the First, he swaps out his knives to become a job that is mechanically similar to Sage and Machinist combined.
Adel gets a Phat Crush on Lyna, of which E-Nishka is immediately made aware of. Because he is kind of obvious about it.
E-Nishka becomes a Dark Knight during ShB, of course, but that will be its own post.
Before traveling back to Elpis, E-Nishka manages to convince Elidibus to travel with him too, which will also be its own post.
To keep it short though, E-Nishka, by DT, is technically plural in the sense he has three different souls also mingling with his own, inside his body. These are Fray Myste (actual Fray, not darkside), Ardbert, and Elidibus (primal).
Myste, though E-Nishka does go through these quests, is actually just a part of E-Nishka and doesn't technically count as Myste is not just hanging out.
Elidibus freaked the fuck out during Pandaemonium raids. Positively or negatively? Yeah!
There's more that I've developed for him so far but I'm snnzzz ...

23 for that playlist ask?
Thank you for the number, friend! Roll has determined Nox is our target this time, this should be interesting. :3c
Gonna try a thing with the screens I took mid-story.
Fallout by UNSECRET & Neoni TW: Nox may be a lil bit suicidal
Finding himself in Garlemald yet again, a place he so loathed to see now bathed in fire raining from the blood-red skies, U'nhea looked through the destruction lining the streets. There had been reports of the old Warrior of Light's presence in the now-empty city. In fact, there had been numerous reports since the Final Days had begun...
"Tsk tsk" the Seeker heard a gentle tutting from atop a nearby building.
"Who's there?"
"Who do you think, dear Warrior? Why, one of your own", wings of arcane flame shone over the edge first, denoting the presence of his quarry. Nox strode towards the edge, phoenix in tow and somehow much larger than his previous encounters.
"You're enjoying this, aren't you?" U'nhea called out, "Flame everywhere you turn. Is this what you wanted?"
Nox cackled madly, "OH BOY, IS IT"
U'nhea gritted his teeth, surely he couldn't be this far gone... To think that E-Sumi-Yan once placed his trust in this... monster.
He snapped from his thoughts, scowling up at the viera.
"No words? A shame" Nox cackled, "Poor Hydaelyn, placing her faith in you, only for you to bring back all she attempted to forestall. What would she think, poor dear" He spoke then to U'nhea as if he were a kit, making the Seeker's tail flick in annoyance.
"YOU KNOW NOTHING OF WHAT SHE THINKS OF ME!" he shouted, emotion overcoming him, "DO NOT SPEAK OF ME AS IF I WERE A MONSTER LIKE YOU!" He clutched at his chest, emotion threatening to tear him apart. He knew then what Nox was after.
"Aww, getting caught up in the mess, are we?" Nox cooed, "Good"
"If you take me away from this world-"
"I'll get the glorious end I so crave..." there was a darkness in his crazed eyes, "So know there is nowhere safe to hide from me. I will get my blaze of glory" He narrowed his eyes at the miqo'te, "And I will take you with me"
He turned to walk away, the phoenix following in his wake. And in U'nhea's mind he heard one last message.
'We did promise, after all. To take this journey together... to the bitter end'
Ah yes, hello again my horrible son.
Some little things to know about Nox's canon that I don't think I shared yet:
He started off his journey as a Conjuror/White Mage by the name of Vitae. In his tutelage, he met and befriended U'nhea, and the two traveled together, inseparable.
They both possess the echo, and as such were both inducted as Warriors of Light to the Scions.
When Nox's canon diverged after the Crystal Tower, Nhea took up the mantle as the sole WoL in their timeline.
However, Nox still traveled with him, though at a distance. Making his life harder, as one possessed of a voidsent and a love for arson & chaos does.
This means he also got spirited away to the First. Nhea could have left him there, but he was too attached to his old memories of their friendship, and saved him.
Yes, he very much does regret this later.
After the Final Days rolls around, Nox does everything in his power to make him succumb to the dynamis and turn to a blasphemy. With him off the table, things would never revert, and the Final Days would consume the world. And Nox would have the glorious end he'd been searching for.
Why can't he just take himself out, you might wonder? His voidsent is a phoenix. He would just resurrect him. Again. And again. And again...
He's tried, trust me.
This bitch is essentially Fandaniel 2.0. I feel bad for U'nhea having to deal with both of them.

Round 1 is over, Round 2 is starting Up
Results Here:
Since people asked, I'd like to remind everyone that also Hatsune Miku isn't owned by Sega, her rhythm games are. And that includes a mobile game that created some brand new characters.
I admit it's a bit iffy, but I took it to a vote, and people wanted Miku in the tournament. So that opens up Project Diva/Project Sekai characters.
My thoughts on the winners and losers:
Makoto Yuki beat Fuuka Yamagishi. I admit I didn't expect that
Maya Amano beat every Angry Bird. Very impressive considering the difference in fame between Angry Birds and pre-3 Persona
Kazuma Kiryu beat Ken Amada. I'm sure he's the sort of person to set Ken on the right path
Gum beats Junpei
AiAi beat Amigo, proving to be the more popular Sega monkey. He might be the most popular Sega monkey
Bean the Dynamite beats Zobio and Zobiko in this match up of deep cuts
Aigis beat Gilius Thunderhead
Whisper the Wolf beat Billy Hatcher
Shinjiro beat Robo
Tohru Adachi beats the Chuni Penguin...I'm sure he's fine
Tillis beats Joe Musashi
The Flickies beat BD Joe. I wasn't sure what to expect
Teddie beats Axel Stone
Eggman beats Ex
E-102 Gamma beats Jean
Koromaru beats Sakura Shinguji
Schezo Wegey beats Aoyagi Toya
Tatsuya Suou beats Lemres

Prompt #29: Contravention
It was an understatement to say she was shocked when she realized the truth. The thing that comforted her most, in all her days, was her greatest fear. Should’ve seen it coming.
Her father gripped her by the shoulders. His smile was forced. It was the first time she’d ever seen him like that- Even when she’d thrown a fit and her magic had sent a stone careening into his shin he hadn’t looked like this. That ever present warm, sunny light in his eyes was replaced with something hard. Something sharp. Something that was two sizes too small, secondhand. She turned to see her mother. She was turned away. She couldn’t remember what he said to her at that moment. Something about leaving. Something about love. How he was going to miss her. Miss them. She had no words at the time. She had nothing at all- Except an opalescent stone set into an old, corroding ring that was pushed into her hands. He closed them around it. It was warm. It was smooth. It was him. It was hers.
She couldn’t remember the first time it was obvious. It could’ve been that moment. It could’ve been turns later. It could’ve been the day she first returned to the Shroud- To Gridania. A bloodied and beaten teenager who could only think of one place to go at the end of her rope. Was it then? Or was it when E-Sumi-Yan saw her? Was it the night of the Calamity? Or was it the day after? Or was it something it had been giving her every bell of every day since the moment it left her father’s hands- and it was only now that she had come to the realization? The thought stabbed her deep in the chest and twisted. Was it when she was staring down into a grave of an unfamiliar woman? Or into the eyes of one that had become so familiar that it hurt? Was it when she tasted summer on her lips? Or when her heart solidified into winter? When? When did it happen? Why was it her? Why did it have to be him?
The opalescent ring shone in the moonlight. As if to epitomize her. As if to emulate her. As if to say it to her in the way that only someone like her could understand- I am you, you are me. Since I met you, since you met me. It was warm, it was smooth. It was him, it was hers. It was her. It is her. It did not conjure memories, she knew, no matter how much she had made herself believe. It did not remind her of the day, every day, because it so brilliantly seared itself into her mind like a brand. It did not show her every sunbeam of that dire moment because its corroded touch called it to her mind.
Her magicks did not wax because it was his. Her breath caught in her chest every time those too-familiar eyes stared at it in question.
It was hers. It was hers. It was hers. And she would die if it was ever any less.
#/The Winter’s Heart/Recollections#FFXivWrite2023#man rakaso you're really broken up over a ring huh#chill out leave it in a drawer somewhere

L’Aventure de Canmom à Annecy - Jeudi 2: Kensuke’s Kingdom
So this is a British traditionally animated film, which is nuts. I didn’t think we made those anymore since the 80s - this has been something of a stop motion and CG only country for a while. And this is a lavish production: full animation rather than limited, with a style reminiscent of something like The Iron Giant.
‘Course, it’s not just British - it involved studios in Luxembourg and France, and actually I suspect they did the bulk of the animation. But it’s based on a Michael Morpurgo childrens’ novel from 1998, one that was in school libraries when I was a kid, though I don’t remember reading it; the characters have British accents and it definitely feels like a British film lol. I understand this project has been in the works for a long time - I believe the producer, who came up onstage before the film, said that it took something like six years to fund and three years to make after that.
The story follows a young British boy called Michael, whose family is sailing around the world on a small boat called the Peggy Sue after losing their jobs (bit of an odd detail lmao, what unemployed person has the money to sail around the world??). Michael, resenting this plan, smuggles his dog Stella aboard ship, and displays an extremely reckless disregard for safety measures. This all comes back to bite him when, during a storm, he wriggles out of his lifejacket in his mum’s grasp to attempt to go out across the boat to bring Stella into the cabin. Inevitably both he and Stella are washed overboard, somewhere in the Pacific.
Michael and Stella wash up on a deserted island full of lush rainforest. Stuck on the beach at the base of steep cliffs, he struggles to find drinkable water, but a mysterious person leaves out water and raw cut fish overnight. This person turns out to be Kensuke, who was a Japanese sailor during WWII, and ended up living alone on the island after surviving his ship being sunk. Kensuke (played by Ken Watanabe) is honestly doing rather well for himself in this idyllic setting, having constructed an elaborate treehouse, spending his days painting sumi-e paintings of animals with home-made ink, as well as singing and serving fruit to a local population of orangutans.
Our boy Michael blunders around making a mess of things, but gradually learns how Kensuke does things and forms a bond with the old man, who becomes a kind of father figure. In the film’s most affecting sequence, we learn what became of Kensuke’s family as the film briefly takes on a sumi-e style to a choral rendition of Sakura, Sakura (an obvious choice, but it’s effective) - in short, they were in Nagasaki, and Kensuke himself learned of their fate just moments before his ship was sunk. So for Kensuke, Michael is a chance to build a connection again, even if it’s to an annoyingly nosy white British kid who never tries to learn a word of Japanese. And Michael to his credit does learn: there’s some very cute sequences of him painting with Kensuke, and Kensuke’s paintings of his memories with Michael are a really effective way to show his feelings.
I assumed going in the story was inspired by the real Japanese holdouts who remained at war for decades after Japan surrendered, but Kensuke, though at first standoffishly trying to keep distance, is never particularly hostile to Michael; as we get to know him it turns out he’s downright saintly, caring for the orangutans and other animals like baby turtles (except fish, because fuck fish I guess lmao).
Peril inevitably comes when a group of animal poachers arrive on the island and start blasting away; Kensuke moves the orangutans to safety, but one orangutan, named Tomodachi (literally just ‘friend’ lol) does not follow him, trying to find their child (I forgot the name of the child orangutan rip). Michael runs about in the forest trying to help the orangutan, and eventually is able to save the child, but not the parent, who is gunned down by the poachers. This encounter reveals to Michael why Kensuke cannot reveal himself.
At last, another boat appears on the horizon, the Peggy Sue with Michael’s family aboard. Kensuke creates a fire to draw their attention, but refuses to come out to meet them and says goodbye to Michael; the film ends with Michael running to join his family.
I read a plot summary of the Morpurgo novel, and it’s interesting that the film actually adds quite a bit more death and grief. At the end of the novel, it turns out that Kensuke’s family survived the bombing in Nagasaki, and during his stay, Michael goes to a lot more effort to persuade Kensuke to leave the island - in the film, neither of them ever learns the other’s language. Kensuke’s Japanese is a nice bilingual bonus though lol. The whole sequence with Michael trying to save the baby orangutan does not take place at all, and in fact all the orangutans survive. In general it seems like the screenplay tightened up and simplified the novel a bit, and added a bit more drama at certain points, while keeping all the main events.
Overall, I enjoyed this film. It was definitely a bit sentimental, with the good man Kensuke living perfectly in tune with nature in his idyllic setting - his motivation for going to war, or feelings about Japan’s defeat, is never really explored. But that worked for the kind of story it was telling - it’s not just visually that I compare it to The Iron Giant. The animation was generally excellent, the rainforest and animals and stormy sea gorgeously depicted, and the character animation strong throughout; I’m not entirely sold on Michael’s family who have some kinda awkward expressions, but Michael and Kensuke’s interactions are depicted very well. And I had Sakura, Sakura stuck in my head all day afterwards lol.
Ultimately any problem I have with the film is a problem with the original story. It’s unquestionably a fantastic adaptation, and it was very cool to catch the premiere in Annecy of all places. I really hope it does well when it gets a full release because I’d love to see traditional animation start to be a thing again over here.

4. Is your character a royalist or monetarist? (Do they side with the crown or the syndicate?)
14. Is your character secretive?
🤗 thank you!
4: so ophelia sides with the crown in ul'dah. especially after the whole "Being framed for regicide" thing. she doesn't trust any of the syndicate but haellen is what we call a "Radical" and "Free-thinker" who thinks there could be a better system than both sides, similar to what ala mhigo and ishgard have. a grouping of representatives from the people of ul'dah and the important higher ups to ensure decisions are made for the betterment of both parties
14: ophelia is secretive in a bad way. she's very open about a lot of things but her darker side is something she is incredibly secretive about. she's barely even told ysayle (the one person she trusts more than herself) of some of the things she's done or holds deep in her heart
haellen? not as much, she's pretty open about everything, even her personal feelings towards people (like the time she told e-sumi to "Never talk to me again unless you want to find himself flying head first into the lake" shortly before leaving to limsa) as far as i can think without delving into like personal notes and writing. the only thing she's secretive about is her feelings about being the WoL and how much she loathes it, and wants to quit it all and run away (she can't obviously. she's the WoL who the hell's gonna replace her?)
#text#ffxiv#final fantasy xiv#oc questions#oc asks#haellen#ophelia de fortemps#thank you for the ask!#i really should write some more about ophelia's darkness#there's a lot to do there and a lot that can be unpacked#as well as fun angsty writing#and also tender romance

Fine, since I’m feeling so ecstatic right now. It’s so easy even an infant would understand. It’s because the body over there was no longer my main body. In other words, the more than 200 passengers on this train… are the food that will strengthen my body even more… as well as my hostages.”
魘夢「ねぇ、守りきれる?君は一人で、この汽車の端から端まで、うじゃうじゃとしている人間たち全てを、俺に“おあずけ”させられるかな?」
Enmu “Nee, mamori-kireru? Kimiwa hitoride, kono kishano hashi-kara hashi-made, uja-ujato shite-iru ningen-tachi subete’o, oreni ‘oazuke’sase-rareru-kana?”
Enmu “So, do you think you can protect them by yourself? All these people packing this train from one end to the other… Can you alone keep me from devouring them?”
炭治郎「くうっ」
Tanjiro “Kuu.”
魘夢「ふふふっ」
Enmu “Fufufu.”

伊之助「当たり前だ。俺は親分だからな」
Inosuke “Atari-maeda. Orewa oyabun dakarana.”
Inosuke “Of course I came! I’m the boss, you know!”
炭治郎「ここで大正コソコソ噂話。伊之助の鎹鴉の名前はどんぐり丸。いつも伊之助の近くにいるのですが、伊之助に食べられそうになったので、今は上手に気配を消しているらしいですよ」
Tanjiro “Kodode Taisho koso-koso uwasa-banashi. Inosukeno Kasugai-Garasuno namaewa Donguri-maru. Itsumo Inosukeno chikakuni iruno-desuga, Inosukeni taberare-soni natta-node, imawa jozuni kehai’o keshite-iru-rashii-desuyo.”

炭治郎「伊之助、頼りにしてるぞ」
Tanjiro “Inosuke, tayorini shiteruzo.”
Tanjiro “Inosuke, I’m really counting on you!”
伊之助「子分が偉そうに言うんじゃねえ!」
Inosuke “Kobunga era-soni iunja nee!”
Inosuke “Don’t be so bossy! You’re just an underling!”
炭治郎「やっぱり伊之助がいてくれると心強いな」
Tanjiro “Yappari Inosukega ite-kureruto kokoro-zuyoina.”
Tanjiro “You make me feel so secure when you’re around, Inosuke!”
伊之助「ホワホワ…」
Inosuke “Howa-howa…”
伊之助「俺をホワホワさせんじゃねえ!行くぞ紋次郎!」
Inosuke “Ore’o howa-howa sasenja nee! Ikuzo Monjiro!”
Inosuke “Don’t make me feel so warm and fuzzy! Let’s go, Monjiro!”
炭治郎「ああ!次回、第五話『前へ』」
Tanjiro “Aa! Jikai, dai-gowa, ‘Mae’e’.

#17: (you pick!) [Understanding]
[i realized i had some thoughts about the start of gridania so uh…… have a fragment from the very beginning of fic. i still don't have a time travel mechanism though. things don't EXACTLY match the intro this time because alphi wasn't really travelling anyway. also i forgot how STUPID and mood whiplash this intro is;;]
Alphinaud sat up and shook his head to clear the cobwebs from his mind. He didn't remember doing anything particularly untoward, but since he couldn't recall how he got to the middle of the Black Shroud, he was clearly forgetting something.
A noise from overhead caught his attention.
As he looked up, two people vaulted themselves from an airship on fire careening through the canopy. Alphinaud pushed himself upright, and dashed over to lend some aid, only to pause when he saw who they were.
Why were Papalymo and Lyse doing here?
He shook off his unease and approached just as Lyse sat up and groaned. There was something… off about her.
Then Papalymo sat up and made the most inane observation Alphinaud had ever heard him make, and Alphinaud was forced to assume they were disoriented from the fall.
And then Lyse spoke and Alphinaud realized he'd made an incorrect assumption. That was not Lyse. Her voice was different, and even at the height of Lyse's imitation of Yda, she'd never sounded so…
Wait.
Papalymo. And someone who was probably Yda.
How had he managed to time travel? Qahs'a was the one who'd had experience in this!
At that point, the noise that Alphinaud made walking up finally attracted the two Archons' attention, and Alphinaud watched Papalymo's expression change as he came to his own conclusion.
Before Papalymo and Yda could continue their… argument, Alphinaud decided to butt in. "Perhaps we should move along to a slightly less disturbed part of the Shroud," he suggested.
"See?" Yda proclaimed. "He is a psychopomp!"
Before Papalymo could respond to that particular inane comment, a growl from behind stole Alphinaud's attention. He spun on his heel, flipped his nouliths into position, and flung a shield in front of the approaching jackals.
One whined as it bounced off. Papalymo inhaled and said, "Well, you've got better reflexes with those than your father ever did."
"I… wouldn't know?" Alphinaud said weakly. "Can we perhaps discuss this after we've managed to get away from the pack? I'm worried about what other attention we might have attracted."
Papalymo sighed. Yda made some scuffling noises as she stood, and said, "Wait, who's his father? Do I know him?"
"We have other concerns," Papalymo gritted out as the two of them edged towards the passage away from the clearing. Alphinaud held the shield as long as he could, waiting until the jackals made another failed charge before dropping it and bolting after them.
"Why are we running?" he heard from Yda, up ahead.
"Do you really want to enrage the elementals by insisting on fighting an entire pack of jackals?" Alphinaud called back before whirling and placing a shield just long enough to stun the jackals again.
He heard a groan from her, but no other complaints.
[and they don't fight the jackals and that doesn't wake the treant but the moogles have to calm the jackals instead and the wood wailers appreciate that these weirdo outsiders are Trying not to bring the greenwrath down on themselves, and e-sumi-yan is just ok this was not what was originally communicated to me but this works. hey foretold outsiders how's it going. and alphinaud and papalymo never get around to TALKING about who alphi clearly is. alphi gets to keep his nouliths because fourche must have been a sage before this period of time and also i don't think he's got his book anymore]

FFXIV Write 2023 Prompt #5 - Barbarous
OK, so, not many people know this, but I have a lot of alts. A lot. I'm almost at max capacity on my main server (Brynhildr). Ahem, anyway, this one is my non-WoL OC Garaile Folant.
Bare bones basic backstory: as a child he was a student of the Conjurer's Guild, but he joined his soul with a voidsent after a violent bandit attack so that he could both live and avenge his family. Upon learning what he'd done and what he'd become, Brother E-Sumi-Yan banished him from the guild and The Shroud. Garaile ends up in Ul'dah and uses his new powers to basically become a small crime boss (over years). Essentially he is both a White Mage and a Reaper (with a bit of nuance to the idea of what a Reaper is). There's more to it, but that's the gist.
Anyway, here's a scene where Garaile comes back to The Shroud for an important reason that requires he speaks to E-Sumi-Yan. Emotional conversation ensues. Word Count: 1790
---
Garaile waited under the Guardian Tree for E-Sumi-Yan. He'd sent no invitation nor had he told a soul where to find him, but he knew as soon as his feet crossed the threshold into The Shroud the forest itself would alert the Hearers.
“It's not enough you ignore my edict to stay away from Gridania, now you profane our most sacred tree with your presence?” E-Sumi-Yan's small figure appeared at the edge of the shadows cast by the tree's boughs.
“What choice did I have after you so rudely ignored my many requests for an audience?” Though he carried a staff on his back, Garaile held up his hands in a gesture of peace. He doubted E-Sumi-Yan would resort to violence, but he knew well enough that the conjurer was held in high esteem by the Shroud's elementals. If they thought he might threaten the eldest Padjal, Garaile could easily find himself dead. Of course, he also knew The Shroud still favored him, too. Not that he'd ever get the conjurers or E-Sumi-Yan to admit it.
E-Sumi-Yan tucked his hands behind his back and took a brazen step closer to Garaile. “You have my attention, but I suggest you choose your words with care. The Guardian Tree does not tolerate fools.”
Garaile glanced over his shoulder at the massive trunk of the ancient tree. When he turned his attention back to E-Sumi-Yan, he wore a mocking grin. “Careful what you speak, Brother. As old as you are, you're not immune to mistakes.” His grin widened when he noted the way the smaller man's jaw clenched. It was nice to know he could still get under the guildmaster's skin. Despite this, he couldn't revel in his joy for too long. He did have a legitimate reason to trouble E-Sumi-Yan and it would be better not to test his patience.
Clearing his throat he dropped his hands. “There's a child that's come into my care in Ul'dah.”
E-Sumi-Yan barely contained his derisive snort. “What, was it too sickly for your demon to consume?”
Now the muscles in Garaile's jaw twitched. He bit back a retort and continued with his story. “She's orphaned.”
“A common theme in Ul'dah or so I hear. Why tell me about her?”
“She's gifted. Like I was.” For the first time since the conversation started, Garaile couldn't bring himself to meet E-Sumi-Yan's eyes. “She heard the elementals calling her.”
E-Sumi-Yan went still. A breeze pushed through the two of them. It could have been coincidence, but Garaile didn't think so. The Padjal cocked his head slightly as if to hear better. “You mean when you brought her to The Shroud she heard them?”
Garaile shook his head. “No. She heard them from Ul'dah. It was only for a moment, but I believe if you allow her here, she will be welcomed.”
The guildmaster considered him for a moment, turned to his side and began to walk a slow circle around Garaile. “And how do you know she heard them?”
He wanted to say, “Because I heard them too,” but the words died on his lips before he could voice them. No matter what evidence he could give, the elder would never believe him. Garaile was too tainted, too infused with darkness. Instead he opted for a different tactic. “I know what it's like when a conjurer hears them. You can see it in their eyes.”
E-Sumi-Yan nodded as though he bought the lie. “And what were you doing when it happened?”
Garaile hesitated. Here was the tricky part. If he admitted he had healed her with his magic, E-Sumi-Yan might deny little Kaia admittance to the guild by claiming she was tainted. Getting her into Gridania was paramount, he knew that deep down in his bones. Not to mention that Briar and the others would never forgive him if he screwed the girl's chance at a far better life. “We were talking about her parents and about her dreams. Since she lost them, she's felt a pull, but she didn't understand it.”
It was the truth, though not the entire truth. He'd felt the elementals connect to her through his magic. While he might be a pariah to guild, he could still feel his connection to The Shroud itself. In his heart, it was still his home.
E-Sumi-Yan stared at him for what seemed like ages. It became so quiet Garaile could hear the leaves rustling overhead and the gentle babble of a nearby brook. “Bring her to Nophica's Altar,” he said at long last. Reaching into his robes he produced a small square of parchment and offered it to Garaile.
Upon reading the neatly lettered script, annoyance rose within. It was a permission slip to show the guards so he could enter into Nophica's Altar. Everything was filled out with his name and dates. He spun round to the guildmaster. “You already knew?”
With a smirk, E-Sumi-Yan pointed upward at the canopy. “Maybe you aren't as deaf as I thought, but I've been listening for centuries. I've known you were skirting the edges of The Shroud for a week now.”
“Then why didn't you grant me an audience?”
The Padjal shrugged. “I wanted to see what you'd do to get my attention. I also wanted to see how the elementals would react to your presence.”
“And?”
“I'm...intrigued,” he admitted. “You're not perceived as a threat and yet I can still feel the darkness inside you. I see the void behind your eyes and see it in your soul.” He shook his head. “Bring the girl, but soon as I test her, you'll have to leave her behind.” With that he began to walk back towards Gridania.
For a moment Garaile remained quiet, but he couldn't completely keep decades worth of anger at bay. “I was a child!”
E-Sumi-Yan stopped and turned his head to the side. “I know.”
“What was I supposed to do?” Emotion swelled inside his chest and his hands clenched into fists. “I was scared and alone!” The Padjal's head dropped. He didn't move when Garaile stepped towards him. “No one came to my aide. The elementals...they didn't respond to me. I was dying.”
“I know,” E-Sumi-Yan repeated in a much quieter voice. “Death is part of life. To them, it was part of the natural order.”
“Natural order? My parents were slaughtered and I was nearly disemboweled. What is natural about that?”
“You could have said no.”
“And I would have died!”
At last E-Sumi-Yan turned to face him, his eyes burning with righteous anger. “So? Better dead than becoming the abomination you are.” He pointed his finger at Garaile's chest. “You had so much promise. This forest loved you as its own son and would have mourned your death. You speak of slaughter and wonder why you were given no mercy? Yet what did you do to the men who killed your parents? What do you call that barbarous act? What of the countless souls you've let that monster devour since?” He rose to the balls of his feet to make himself taller in order to get closer to Garaile's face.
“The truth is perhaps the elementals left you to die because they knew you'd answer that voidsent's call. They knew that no matter your promise or your power, you were too selfish to accept their judgment.” He paused and appeared to collect himself. Taking a step back and a breath, he said, “I mourn the loss of the child I knew. I've watched so many innocents die far too soon without rhyme or reason. It's impossible for mortals like us to truly understand why. As conjurers and hearers, we shouldn't question the designs of the elementals. It's by their grace we are allowed to live and thrive under their boughs. If we start to deny them, we will perish. You are not any more important than any other who suffered at the hands of others. I had no choice but to send you away.”
Garaile's eyes burned with unshed tears. The rage had given way to grief, both for E-Sumi-Yan's words and for the life he'd once had. “I won't argue that what I did was right. I was so young and death too frightening to comprehend. When help was offered, I didn't question it. Despite what you believe, I do understand why you rebuked me.” His voice caught as he gazed skyward. “As much as I wish it weren't so, I can't stay here. The elementals may still respond to me, but I'm not foolish enough to believe that means they accept me as they once did.” He barked a mirthless laugh.
“I know you want to hear me say I regret my choice, and I'm sorry that I can't say I do. You've had spies watch me and you've heard the stories about me from Ul'dah. I won't lie and tell you that I'm not every bit the monster you fear I am.”
“No,” E-Sumi-Yan interrupted. “You're not. The fact you can stand under this tree is proof of that, never mind that you risked mine and the Shroud's wrath to come her for the sake of another.”
Garaile blinked, a little surprised to hear his former teacher condone him rather than condemn. “She deserves a chance.”
“So did you,” the Padjal said. “I'm sorry I couldn't give it to you. You had a choice, yes, but it was a choice you shouldn't have had to make.”
For several heartbeats, Garaile wasn't sure how to respond. Over the course of several decades the two of them had shared an antagonistic relationship and now it felt awkward that both of them had admitted their mistakes. He cleared his throat. “I, uh, thank you for that.”
“I won't ever say it again,” he replied with a wry smile. “Make sure to tell Madelle the girl's measurements so we can find her a proper robe.” He turned to leave again only to stop. “And before you arrive, take her to find her first cane. I'm sure you'll be able to guide her.”
Once again rendered speechless, Garaile could only stare as E-Sumi-Yan disappeared into The Shroud. A strong breeze pushed through the trees carrying with it a faint whisper.
We remember you, child.
It was so brief he wondered if he'd truly heard it. Ultimately he decided he was better off not questioning it. He had to get back to Kaia and take her to find her first cane, the one she'd use after being accepted into the guild just as he had done many years prior.
“May she never have to make the choice I did,” Garaile said to the empty air. He hoped the elementals heard his plea this time.

oh btw i have reasons for every single one of these:
Cowboys/Dojima: Incapable of accepting that what they once loved will never return to them, forever indulging in escapism and unwilling to face what's in front of them
Giants/Mitsuru: Stodgy, from old money, completely unaware of how the world around them actually works in this day and age
Eagles/Haru: fuck da police
Commanders/Sumi: "You know, Senpai, the old name was actually a tribute to Native Americans, they never should've changed it, I'm gonna keep calling them the Re-"
Bears/Akechi: S U F F E R I N G (also this work by gimmie20dollas that has become my entire personality)
Lions/Kanji: Hard nosed, smash mouth football, duh (actually he thought the Hawaiian Blue color was super cute but he'd never tell you that)
Packers/Morgana: Zero innate understanding of how anything works outside of their own milieu, arrogance hiding insurmountable insecurities, I hope they both die
Vikings/Ann: It's a common headcanon that she's part Scandinavian, so this was an easy one. Just don't tell her about 1998
Falcons/Makoto: No matter the accolades, no matter the talent, no matter the devoted fanbase, both will always and forever be mid (I'm so sorry Makoto I love you)
Panthers/Yusuke: Prone to rash, irresponsible decisions that will leave them impoverished for ages to come; in desperate need of leadership
Saints/Sojiro: What is gumbo but Cajun curry?
Bucs/Ryuji: Pirates. I didn't think any further than that and neither did he
Cardinals/Futaba: Kyler Murray is a gamer and Futaba thinks that's swell
Rams/Rise: Glitz, glamor, and mortgaging your future for short term glory. It's the idol way
Niners/Naoto: Naoto saw that little man Brock Purdy rise to greatness and got gender envy. And what better place for that than San Francisco
Seahawks/Chie: Found out about the Legion of Boom a dozen years ago and thought it was the coolest shit ever
Bills/Yu: Exudes DGAF energy but barely beneath the surface is nothing but passion and loyalty. Also Bills fans all have sister complexes
Dolphins/Fuuka: As we all know, Fuuka has a deep compassion for her team and profound technical knowledge, but can't cook for shit. Just like having Mike McDaniel for a coach
Patriots/Akihiko: Much like the Brady/Belichick years Akihiko is defined by a borderline-psychotic infatuation with always improving, always staying on top, and always finding a made-up mental hurdle to climb. Also he just gives me New Englander vibes. He'd probably call you a slur
Jets/Yosuke: Much-deserved suffering.
Ravens/Ren: Much like the city of Baltimore, Ren gives off a goofy, theatrical vibe that can sometimes overshadow his innate toughness and loyalty. Unlike Ray Lewis, though, he doesn't deserve to have a criminal record
Bengals/Shinjiro: Hardscrabble, rough history, both barely surviving on meager funds
Browns/Teddie: He found out about Deshaun Watson and liked the cut of his jib
Steelers/Yukari: Always serviceable and more than a little mean, though clinging desperately to the past to avoid the pain of the present
Texans/Kawakami: A life of exhaustion, malaise, and zero forward momentum while drowning in debt is almost as depressing as having to be in Houston. Also I just really wanted to photoshop her with a Lone Star
Colts/Door-kun: Makoto doesn't care, and what better team to not care about than the Colts? Folks,
Jaguars/Junpei: Junpei is basically Jason Mendoza
Titans/Aigis: Technically sound, maybe, but wildly incompetent in most other regards. Titan Up, as they say
Broncos/Adachi: Years of abject mediocrity after trying to make something of yourself, desperately clawing to any shred of normalcy or relevance, would drive anyone to madness and sociopathy. Also Adachi is there
Chiefs/Yukiko: Red offensive powerhouses stick together, I guess. Definitely killed a guy
Raiders/Kotone: A yawning, bleak emptiness just beneath the surface. May have fans still, sure, but long forgotten by just about everyone else
Chargers/Zenkichi: Became a fan when they were in San Diego and has foregone all dignity to continue supporting them. Once again, a loved one escapes his life and he finds himself looking backward, chasing after a past that will never return to him.
Persona characters as football fans
this is my magnum opus

Aethersup, part 8 (Epilogue)
Previously: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7
Gridania. How strange it feels, after so long alone, to once more be surrounded by people - people who watch Sanson out of the corners of their eyes, curious, but too polite to interrogate him. For now. The truth is a tightly-held secret, kept by the Seedseers and the handful of trusted men Jehantel had led into the heart of Amdapor - he swears they’ll not breathe a word of it, and Guydelot trusts his mentor. And Sanson trusts Guydelot, as he must.
As far as the people of Gridania know, Sanson Smyth has been held captive in Amdapor all these years, as much a victim as any of the others taken there against their will. A powerful voidsent held them there, the story goes, and it has been defeated - and now Gridania and the Twelveswood are safe, and need never fear abduction again.
It makes a pleasant story.
“I wish…” Sanson says, as Guydelot’s song winds to a close, the last note left to ring in the air. “I wish I could speak to them; to those I stole away before. If I could make amends…”
“That’d put the lie to our tale, wouldn’t it?” Setting the harp aside, Guydelot tugs Sanson close, watching the stars come out over the city. “They don’t remember a thing, Sanson. You know I went looking for ‘em? Those still here in Gridania, anyhow - at best, they remember bits and pieces of that room in Amdapor, but for most of ‘em, it just feels like a bad dream.”
Sanson shakes his head. “You remembered all when you saw me again. Perhaps if they…”
Guydelot nuzzles his ear, pitching his voice low and soft, turning Sanson’s knees to water. “I figure that’s the power of true love.”
Briefly dizzy, Sanson very much wants to believe it.
But he laughs, a little breathless. “‘Twas likely Brother E-Sumi-Yan’s efforts at dispelling the barrier that weakened it.”
“Spoilsport.” But the bard grins, standing and offering his hand. “Right. I swore I’d have you back before it got too late, and I won’t have it said I ran off with the Seedseers’ patient, eh?”
It’s an odd sort of arrangement, Sanson thinks, as they begin the walk back to the conjurers’ guild. He is not a prisoner, as such, but he cannot rightly be called free - not while he remains a voidsent; not while he must still draw aether from others to live. The Seedseers seem convinced they may somehow separate the voidsent within him from the mortal body it inhabits, and he finds he must cling to the hope they’re correct. Though what will become of him - or rather, what he will become - he doesn’t dare think about for long; will he even recognize himself?
Will Guydelot?
He has been reintroduced to his family, a reunion as overwhelming for them as it was for him - he recalls them now, ever-so-slightly, aided by the memories unburied by Guydelot’s songs. It is those memories which give the Seedseers hope, they claim; that the memories remain to be dredged up from the depths of his mind at all suggest the soul of Sanson Smyth remains as well, there to be unearthed and restored. For now, they recommend spending time in familiar places, reacquainting himself with his family (who have been given an abbreviated version of the truth; they know only that there is an ailment involving his aether, and for now, he must remain in the Seedseers’ care). And, of course, spending time with Guydelot, whose songs seem to stir the dormant soul within.
“What do you suppose they’ll do if they cannot cure me?” He asks, walking arm-in-arm with Guydelot - quietly enough to not be overheard.
The bard shrugs, seemingly unconcerned. “Keep trying, I reckon. They’ve a cure for tempering now - why not a cure for what ails you, too?”
“Your optimism is truly boundless.”
“Not usually,” Guydelot admits, grinning down at him. “But hells, we’ve come this far - might as well see it though ‘til the end.”
They walk on in companionable silence, while Sanson wills himself to hope. After all, is he not even now standing in the heart of Gridania once more, when once he expected he would spend his entire life trapped within Amdapor? Even the few trappings of his life there have been brought back out into the light once more: a home is being prepared for him, he’s been assured, where his garden may thrive beneath a sporeless sky - the work has been entrusted to a skilled botanist while he ‘convalesces.’ A strange reward for his predations, but Sanson finds himself moved by the gesture nevertheless. And the thought of a home, waiting for him when he is at last ready to begin his life anew… and the man here beside him, waiting to begin that life with him.
Yes, he wants to hope, in spite of everything.
They return to his room in the guild, a room set aside for patients requiring intensive care from the conjurers - for what is he, if not a special patient? The room is not meant for two, but given the Seedseers’ advice, the conjurers have not seen fit to usher Guydelot away at night… and the bard is in no great hurry to leave. It’s a peculiar sort of domesticity, too sterile to be intimate, but Sanson takes heart from Guydelot’s presence all the same - in a very strange way, this little infirmary room feels more like home than the sprawling ancient archive ever had, and that sense of home is all bound up in Guydelot Thildonnet.
He watches the bard undress for the night; the casual grace in it.
I believed I would lose this, he reminds himself. Yet here he is, despite everything…
“Guydelot,” he says, quietly. “Guydelot, what will you do if curing me… changes me?”
The bard pauses, midway through tugging his shirt over his head. He peers at Sanson above the tangled fabric, blinking quizically. “Eh?”
“What if I am the voidsent, after all,” he continues. “What if the part of me you know, the part of me you love, is gone after the Seedseers’ work is complete? What if I don’t remember you when it’s over? What if-”
“Shh.” Guydelot tosses his shirt aside, hurrying over to place a finger over Sanson’s lips, silencing him. “The way I reckon it, you’re you, and whatever comes out of this is gonna be at least a little bit you, Sanson. If you don’t remember me, or if you’re a little bit different, that’s fine.” He leans in, brushing their lips together in the briefest of kisses. “I don’t mind having to fall in love with you again.”
It helps.
Sanson smiles, resting his forehead against Guydelot’s, content for the moment simply to have him close.
“We should rest,” he says, quiet. “They mean to… interview me tomorrow, regarding the events that led to my creation.” And for that, he will require as much energy as he can muster; he does not look forward to it, but any clues that may lead to the unravelling of the rituals that made him thus…
“Aye.” Guydelot trails gentle fingers over Sanson’s cheek. “Do you need aether?”
This part of the arrangement cannot be avoided; Sanson still requires aether - and though the guild has its own ways of replenishing the vampire’s aether, staving off the worst of the hunger pangs, still nothing fills the need quite the same way a living mortal’s aether does. To that end, Guydelot remains a willing volunteer, quick to offer, without the vampire ever needing to ask. He does not need to draw so deeply anymore, not with starvation kept well away, but…
“Perhaps a bit,” he admits, regretting the need. But he will require as much energy as possible for tomorrow’s ordeal, and today’s walk through the whole of Gridania, with the eyes of every stranger they passed upon him, has taken its toll. Being out in public is a heavy drain in itself… but he’d not trade away a second of his time with Guydelot, no matter the cost.
At least the feeding is more comfortable now.
They settle into bed together, Sanson nestled into the curve of Guydelot’s side, where he fits. He winds an arm across Guydelot’s chest - skin on skin; all he needs. “I begin to suspect you enjoy this,” he teases, letting his fingers trace the bard’s collarbones.
Guydelot snorts, running his own hand down Sanson’s side, coming to rest at his hip. “Don’t know what you mean. I’m the soul of generosity.”
“Or perhaps you just like that it puts you to sleep so swiftly.”
“Or maybe I just like you better when you’re all warm and soft,” Guydelot says, reaching further down and pulling Sanson’s leg over his own, squeezing his thigh for emphasis. “I like my vampire sweet, fat, and happy, that’s all.”
It makes Sanson laugh, and he presses a quick kiss to the bard’s shoulder to quell that laughter; may the fool never stop being half so ridiculous.
“I do love you,” he says, as he begins drawing aether, slowly. Gently. “Whatever our future holds, and whether or not I remain a part of it… I do love you, Guydelot. Remember that, come what may.”
“Aye,” Guydelot replies, nestling his cheek against Sanson’s hair. “And I love you. Don’t you forget it… come what may.”

While doing the Hatching Tide 2022 quests, I remembered we had very recently seen a Happy Traveler Bunny in 6.0...
In Elpis there is a side quest called "Very Familiar Carrots" where a researcher is concerned for a friend and has WoL search. After stumbling across the long-haired researcher defending an odd bunny familiar from a melanion, the bunny departs, leaving behind an amazing looking carrot that imbues joy to whoever eats it. The researcher who initially sent you looking mentions that Venat was said to be researching this particular bunny familiar, but no one was quite sure.
Meanwhile, in the modern era, if you deliver holiday eggs to the Markets, E-Sumi-Yan is there with some of the local children, and mentions the "Happy Bunny" is also called a Traveler Rabbit, a rare creature that ushers in joy when they unexpectedly appear, though he hasn't seen one since he was a boy...and considering E-Sumi's age, that's a couple centuries ago.
I'm fairly certain we've seen this model other places in game as well, but given the importance of small rabbits and their carrots with connections to Venat this expac, I thought it was quite interesting what this egg-filled holiday focused on this year.
Full "Very Familiar Carrots" Quest Text and the Market Holiday Convo under the cut.
Very Familiar Carrots Rhodopis: Oh dear, I'm starting to worry some. It's my colleague, you see. We heard this horrid screech from a melanion, and he went rushing off to check what all the fuss was about. I was thinking of following after him, but... Well, just look at me. Rhodopis: You, however, appear well versed in combat and all such sanguinary escapades. Perhaps you might see if aught is amiss and ensure my coworker hasn't come to any harm? Rhodopis: That's very kind of you to agree to such a request. The last I saw of him, he was racing for the southern end of Kallimelios Zephyros. Do promise to hurry. I'm half-afraid he has wound up on the wrong side of some nasty fiends' fangs.
(WoL comes across the wounded researcher trying to defend a strange bunny-like creature from a melanion) Rabbit Familiar: <squeak> <squeak> Long-haired Observer: <sigh> ...That was much too close for my liking. Your timing was truly immaculate. I was quite trapped and would have been gobbled up if not for your timely interference! Long-haired Observer: It was the agitated cries of the melanion which brought me here. When I arrived to see what inspired such howling, I discovered this fellow being set upon by that raging creature. I didn't hesitate to insert myself into the fray, of course. Long-haired Observer: I should be fine, but it's the familiar for whom I'm most concerned. Could you make sure it's unharmed? Long-haired Observer: Your intervention was a most welcome one, I assure you. I would be halfway digested by now if not for your help! Though I hate to ask, perhaps you might examine that familiar? I worry it's injured. The familiar appears free of any injuries, scrapes, or bruises, and has left behind a dazzling carrot, as if to say thank you. Deliver the carrot to the long-haired observer. Rabbit Familiar: <sniff> <squeak>♪ (Rabbit Familiar runs off) Long-haired Observer: A relief to know they are not too severely injured. Oh my─ What is that? Long-haired Observer: You say the creature left it behind? Long-haired Observer: A striking color for a carrot, wouldn't you say? Perhaps this was its way of showing its gratitude. What a thoughtful creature... Long-haired Observer: ...And one I've never seen before. Whose familiar could it be, I wonder? I will perform an investigation upon my return. Long-haired Observer: Now then, shall we head back to Poieten Oikos? I'm in a rather sorry state and would like to get cleaned up as soon as possible.
Rhodopis: How very good it is to see you again. My friend─the one whom you plucked from the jaws of death itself─is seeking treatment for his wounds as we speak. Rhodopis: I heard the entire tale─how a rabbit familiar was on the scene. Mistress Venat was said to be researching one such familiar, or that's the story, anyway. Perhaps the one you came across is related to that business? Rhodopis: Well, regardless of its origins, it sounded like a rather polite creature, as I was told it left behind a sort of gift. Rhodopis: Yet I shan't be outdone by a bunny, charming though it surely is. Here you are: a present. It's nothing special, but I hope it proves as scrumptious as the carrot our mysterious familiar bestowed upon you and my colleague.
Hatching Tide - Hippity, Hoppity, Happily - Market Egg Delivery E-Sumi-Yan: Your efforts are sincerely appreciated. These seasonal celebrations bring so much joy to the children─and myself, I confess. E-Sumi-Yan: Still, I must say...it's been years since I've seen a traveler rabbit in the flesh. I never would have expected to encounter one here. E-Sumi-Yan: What's that? That nomenclature is unfamiliar to you? Ah, in the North they are known more...colloquially...as “happy bunnies,” are they not? They're said to usher in smiles and good fortune... E-Sumi-Yan: Before that─yes, since much older times─they were known as “traveler rabbits.” They have a habit of showing up at your side unannounced, then vanishing off somewhere before you know it. I recall seeing one in the Twelveswood when I was but a child. E-Sumi-Yan: Ah, but forgive me... You have other places you must be. We can talk another time─pray relax and enjoy the festivities when your work is done.
