Thank you for the loveliest evening I've ever had...' [normal] '...east of the Mississippi.' [instant intrigue!]
Geographic Qualifiers [Explained]
Transcript
[The scene in this comic is shown from afar and drawn in black silhouette on a white background. It depicts a huge statue of a squirrel standing on a skateboard, which is on a pedestal. Below and in front of the statue there are two Cueball-like guys. The Cueball on the left is pointing at the statue and speaking to his friend on the right who has a thought bubble above him.]
Cueball: At over 40 feet, it's the tallest statue of a skateboarding squirrel in the Northern Hemisphere.
Friend [thinking]: ...Wait, who in the heck...Brazil? South Africa? Australia? Squirrels aren't even native there...
[Caption below the panel:] I love the instant mystery created by qualifiers like "east of the Mississippi" or "in the Northern Hemisphere."
you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.
haghpat monastery in haghpat, armenia. the initial building was completed in 991 by medieval armenian king smbat II, and other structures were added later until the 13th century. its location was deliberately chosen to both be inconspicuous and overlook the nearby debed river.
this monastery was one of the locations featured in the 1969 film the color of pomegranates. the film follows the life of 18th century armenian poet sayat-nova, who at one point served in haghpat as a monk. he was also murdered there in 1795.

obsessed w all the Mike Walters (species) who have place names like its SO interesting that in a world with instant travel geographic places are still important to certain characters' personal/ascribed identity, even when the Mike's stay in their respective location was temporary
i kinda love how feng xin and mu qing are referred to as fengqing even outside of any romantic context
like atp “feng xin & mu qing” has become interchangeable w “fengqing” and i enjoy it greatly bc they’re literally just a matched set. doesn’t matter if you ship them or not they come as a unit regardless. bonded do not separate. this might be product bundling
Malachi: Most pokemon here have southeastern accents, because, well... they were raised in the southeast! So I guess it'd really just depend on where she was raised.
Rune: Pip pip, cheerio, it's chewed-day or whatever. Do I sound convincingly from around here yet?
