I am once again thinking about the reluctant ruler whose arc justly and correctly includes assuming the throne and taking responsibility for the people set before them

Say what you will about the Cyrano movie (and one day I'll be able to in a halfway articulate manner), but I am still mildly obsessed with "Every Letter", and I think about this ending couplet all the time...
Your letters are drawings on me from above I know who you are and I know you are loved
Just... the idea of Cyrano and Christian receiving a letter in return from Roxanne and feeling their breath catch both with ecstasy and with bitter regret.
I know who you are...
But she can't. But she mustn't. But it would break her heart--she would never trust them again. But it wouldn't be fair to Christian. But Cyrano could never show his face again. But they already feel themselves burn under her gaze, and to meet it honestly without the armor of a soldier, of these letters, would scorch them until nothing remains. But the only true honor is to hide, even if they know it's really the coward's way out. But the only safety (if they were being brutally honest with themselves) is to hide.
... and I know you are loved.
But God, they wish they didn't have to.
#It's four thirty in the morning and I have been slam-dunked back into Cyrano Hell...#Listen okay ever since the movie introduced the idea of *Roxanne actually writing back* I have been even less normal about these idiots.#The imagery is so fucking delicious either way because you get to imagine either the two of them sitting close enough together#that they can both read either together or over the other's shoulder and just... occupying that space together the two nearly becoming one#and I get to lose my mind over the proximity and the warmth between them forged in the fire of their love for Roxanne.#OR *or or*... the two of them taking turns reading and just *watching* the other's face as they read trying to glean from their expressions#what she might have said and the intensity of that study becoming its own terrible intimacy that right now they can only show through proxy#and I *also* get to lose my mind over Cyrano watching Christian and musing that even if his partner might look like a marble statue#he's never seen a marble statue make that face before but he's *definitely* seen it from Roxanne and it's just as coronary-inducing on both#and Christian watching Cyrano and musing that this might be the closest he'll ever come to seeing the pride of the cadets#and the mythic figure he's built around himself completely *shatter* if only for a moment... he's *human* and he's *exquisite.*#CANNOT be normal about it... it's 'So--here's my heart under your velvet now'--#it's 'I've loved but one (man) in my life and now I must lose him twice'--#it's the darkness of the balcony and the endless sunshine metaphors regarding Roxanne herself--#it's the goddamn Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known and how much Roxanne *craves* it from two men terrified to submit to it...#God these three make me sick I love them so much.#cyrano de bergerac

pastor daniels is Hated by the entire town he is a resident of, they all think he’s a weirdo freak and avoids him and literally nothing he does helps this image. you can openly mock him and he’ll just TAKE IT. every conversation is an opportunity to bully the shit out of him and you only get to speak to him basically twice so far. The man is also being bullied by rats in his church. Rats.

If only comic artists understood how little effort they have to put into their work for their fans to continue to fall in love with them.
#I'm not saying that would be particularly good#we only get better if you practice and the constant hating of one's own artwork is what gives many artists the motivation to keep practicing#I'm just saying#how many times I've fallen in love with a newly submitted comic thinking it is perfection#and the artist grumbling because they had to forgo a normal finishing touch and 'sorry it's not as polished'#wouldn't have noticed‚ and if I did notice I would have seen it is as an intentional choice and better than past work#and what's crazy is that artists fundamentally know how what we see in our heads is not going to match up to reality#especially commissioning artists who have to deal with the customers who are never happy with the result‚ not fully#and that's because we take images and morph them in our head#the people who notice tiny differences in an artist's work enough to criticize them‚ that is a specialized hobby of theirs#everyone else takes your image and let's their imagination take over and entertain themselves#keep working hard and bettering your craft but man if only you guys knew how much less you had to do to impress your fans

I think it should take longer to make tv shows and movies. I think shooting days should be shorter. I think AD's lives should be longer. I think we shouldn't have to be in a goddamn rush all the time. I think we should have the time it takes to make good art. I think fans should wait even longer than they do and be happy that everyone who made the art is getting full nights of sleep.
#yall have NO IDEA how much i abused my body just to write my own fic. i would sleep at 2 in the morning#and get up early for work the next day even if i was sleep deprived as all fuck#like i was constantly tired and sleepy and irritable#all to submit a chapter within a few months#life was bleak and the only fucking thing i looked forward to was writing#i neglected my fucking family just to write a wholeass goddamn chapter#now i know better#i know not to write while working on the clock bcs its a recipe for disaster#since the quality of my work plummets to the gutter and I NEED THIS JOB#so no it is NOT worth it to sacrifice ur health just to submit that goddamn chapter#allow yourself to take months#allow yourself to take YEARS to submit just one chapter#but i am begging you#please live your life#do not let your life revolve around your writing#bcs life is still moving forwards for your loved ones#do not neglect them bcs every moment is precious#in fifty fucking years u will think “god i wish i spent more time w them” bcs u spent all that time writing on a fic#all im saying is#pls dont neglect ur health and ur loved ones just to do ur hobbies#the backlash is motherfucking MASSIVE#author's log#the mortifying ordeal of being known log
