A submission is basically you handing someone else a post and asking them to just put in on their blog. It could be text, images, or other content and happens via a submission box. Most likely something that fits the blog's theme. The blog's owner can decide if they want to publish it or not.

An ask is sending someone a question (via the Ask feature). The blog's owner can reply publicly (which then shows on their blog and you get a notification) or privately, sending it to your inbox.

So if you want to be a part of a blog and send in your own content, do it as a submission. If you want to get a question answered or you want to request something, do it with an ask. If one of these options is not available on a blog, it means that the owner has disabled it and is not interested in a submission or an ask at that time.

In short:

Submission = sending in a post to another blog to be published

Ask = sending in a question, request or message

saying this as respectfully as possible but. Do not put fandom content creators on a pedestal. We are also just fans contributing to a community just as you are. We have boundary on our own work and that’s it. What I say is not and should not be considered sth the whole fandom should listen to. I’m just a normal ass person ranting about things on my blog. If it does not have a fandom tag for others to engage in, do not make it out to be me trying to start fights or addressing the whole community. Because it’s not.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, my art, my lore talk, is biased. I’ve never tried to hide that I view Marika a certain way and will always develop my theory following that base assumption.

Aside from translation stuffs and pointing out in-game items, everything else I say you can look at it, agree or disagree, and move on to form your own opinions. Just because I draw stuffs doesn’t mean you get to saddle me with responsibilities about managing fandom expectations. What the hell? First, get yourself an avatar and a bio/description to set yourself apart from the dreadful bots. You don't have to go personal or deep with your bio/description, you only need to show you're human so people won't block and/or report you. (If you want to follow 18+ blogs, an indication of your age in your bio might be useful but not a must!)

Reblogging is preferred over Liking posts and is also highly encouraged here on Tumblr. There is no algorithm here so reblogs make the world go round. That said, if you only Like stuff and hardly reblog, then that's fine too so don't feel forced.

You reblog whatever you want to and how often you like. It's your blog, you cater to yourself and your interests. You aren't responsible for anyone else's eyes, morals, or whatever else. Be free!

You're allowed to reblog super old posts. It's not weird or intrusive, dig up those fossils and show them off!

You don't have to post any original posts if you don't want to. Being a reblog blog is just as valid of a use of Tumblr. Just avoid being seen as a bot and you can reblog to your heart's content.

Horse Info for Fanfic Writers Part 1

I love that most people writing Rohirrim centric fics have a great appreciation for horses.

Now that I am technically an equine professional (that still seems odd to me that I get paid to ride) I thought it might be fun to post some bite sized bits of horse info that might be useful to people writing stories with horses in them.

Today’s subject: Hooves

There’s an old saying that goes “no hoof, no horse” and it’s so true. Horses evolved to be standing and moving constantly and their hooves are basically a big keratin shoe with a blood pump in the sole. If the hoof is compromised you’re in big trouble.

On a healthy horse most farriers advise trimming the hoof every six weeks. This same rate applies for replacing metal horse shoes. Many horses can happily do without horse shoes, like Wíd here who has very hard feet and a thick sole and hoof walls. This allows him to comfortably travel on almost all surfaces without metal shoes. If I know he’s going to be walking on asphalt or rocks for most of a ride, he has plastic soled hoof boots that go over his hooves. Because I (and in Tenth Queen so does Halloth) do my own farrier work I trim Wíd’s feet every 2-3 weeks using a metal rasp. All I do is buff the edges and even out any spots that aren’t wearing down at the same rate. This helps keep his hoof wall from growing out and helps prevent cracks.

If your character has a horse that’s going barefoot then they don’t have to worry about their horse loosing a shoe, which is really helpful. It also allows the hoof to expand and contract the way it’s supposed to in order to pump blood which is really beneficial. The downside is that if they are riding intensely and on hard surfaces for a long time, they are risking bruising to the hoof.

Usually smaller horses and those bred to favor hardiness over performance tend to have better feet and are more likely to be comfortable barefoot. This spring I didn’t have a car and used Wíd as my main source of transportation for four months, hunted on him and used him to get around the farm for chores, all without shoes!

Now, if your character has a big warhorse or something heavier that’s being ridden a lot, they probably need shoes. Shoes are made from metal, usually steel and secured with nails that are driven through the hoof wall and then clipped short and bent on the outside. This is a lengthy process as the hoof wall has to be trimmed down, the shoe hammered on an anvil to match the shape of the hoof, then secured in place with nails. Usually my farrier who shoes the horses at work takes 45 minutes to an hour per horse. This is an expensive process too. Right now most farriers will charge $150-$200 USD for all four shoes. Thank goodness Wíd goes barefoot because…..ouch. Anyways, considering the materials and labor, this would likely be a considerable expense unless your character is pretty wealthy. A horse being ridden really intensely might need new shoes even more often.

When a metal shoe comes off the rider usually hears a clicking noise as the shoe is rattled against the nail heads when loose. Sometimes the horse will step on the edge of the shoe and rip it off, sometimes taking part of the hoof wall with it. This can cause problems in a severe case.

Both shod and barefoot horses can be prone to infections like thrush or white line disease which are fungal infections which eat away at the soft part of the hoof called the frog (that triangle in the middle you can see on the bottom). This happens if the horse is left standing in mud and manure and can’t get its feet clean and dry. Even a damp climate can cause this sort of infection, but a good way to prevent it is to apply vinegar to the frog when grooming the horse.

The channels on either side of the frog need to be kept clean and can sometimes get stones wedged in them which need to be removed, as they press into the frog and cause discomfort.

Horses can also get abscesses when a puncture or crack in the hoof turns into a bacterial infection. When this happens the hoof needs to be wrapped. I like to use a salt paste poultice to help draw out the abscess and drain it. Things like pine resin are used to help harden the hoof.
