I got two prompts for OPLA. One, Nami and Zoro admitting that they are whipped when it comes to Luffy. 2) the first meal each of the strawhats officially eats together as a crew.
"You really didn't have to come."
"No no! I wanted to! This is fun!"
Nami sticks her head out of the changing room and raises an eyebrow. "That would be a lot more believable if you weren't dying of boredom over there."
Luffy, who has been playing with the buttons of a shirt on display for the past ten minutes because he is dying of boredom, immediately drops his hands. "I am not!"
**********
I have answered the first of the two prompts. Hope you enjoy anon!

I vaguely remember that one of the unused ideas was for Strom to accidentally kill Fade. I wonder if that idea would have happened within the next few pages if it had been kept. The situation seems perfect for that. Of course, we know that Fade won't die (or at least it won't be Strom who kills him), but I hope that she will at least startle him a bit to run to save her girlfriend and her sister >;3c
Storm has ways haha but yeah this chapter was originally when Fade was gonna get merc'd. - Cat

You said you saw Deadpool & Wolverine - how did you like it?
Oohh, thanks Nonny! I had been planning on writing my thoughts! :)
I liked it!
I thought it was a very apt bridge between the old Fox films and Deadpool coming into the MCU.
I'm not a huge fan of uber violent things but something I appreciate about the Deadpool films (and Ryan Reynolds' brand of 12yo humor) is that behind it all is a lot of heart. And this film retained that, through all the crudeness, the point is that ultimately, Deadpool/Wade is a really good guy. And I can respect that.
Getting into specifics... which are very spoiler-y
I thought the plot itself was very thin, and this whole thing probably works better as a bunch of sketches, but it's fine. I was never asking for a lot from this film, and it did the only thing I was really asking of it, which was provide entertainment and get Deadpool into the MCU.
I appreciate that they really didn't shit on Logan's legacy while bringing Hugh Jackman back. Jackman seemed to be having a good time of it, which I'm glad to see.
Btw, loved all the musical jokes we got in this! Loved it.
I LOVED the montage of various Wolverines -- I understood most of the references! Yay me for reading X-Men comics for so long!!
The Henry Cavill cameo? Perfect.
I'm not surprised we didn't see a lot of Wade's family and friends, but it is sad they got such a small amount of screen time.
Ooff, Vanessa continues to be the one really weak piece of this whole thing. Does the actress not want to be there? Does she have limited time? Why is her character always being reduced to love interest whom Wade does everything for but there's no development of her character? Idk.
The TVA stuff is fine. I feel like it's so convoluted now that it doesn't really matter that it ultimately doesn't make much sense. I do think the MCU needs to start moving away from the multiverse stuff. It's just getting too mucky and it's lost focus.
Oh, why is Thor holding Deadpool, I'm sure it was just a gag, but oh god would it be hilarious if they brought it back at some point.
The Happy stuff. It's always great to see him, but how did Deadpool end up in the main universe? Why am I even questioning this?
Cracked me up that they hid Peter's face in that picture. Can't give Sony any more money than necessary.
Oh, in general, I love LOVED all the fourth wall breaks. This is why I watch Deadpool movies.
Cassandra Nova was fine as a villain. The actress was great! She just feels... a little too seriously evil to be in this comedy movie. Idk.
All the returning c-list villains were fun!
Having Chris Evans return as Johnny Strom was a brilliant move and I loved it. Having him just be the opposite of Steve Rogers on top of it was hilarious. Perfect use of a cameo, film.
Wesley Snipes returning as Blade. Goddamn. I'm kinda surprised he agreed to do it!
Great to see Jennifer Garner return as Elektra. I'm kinda glad I made myself watch all those marvel movies (which I still need to finish...) I appreciate this cameo more (and the dig at Daredevil).
Yay Laura returning! Could have always used more of her, but she did what she needed to.
Okay. Okay, let's talk about it. Let's talk about Channing Tatum as Gambit...
The Pros : The accent was fun, the way they used his powers was fantastic and original, they didn't make him the butt of jokes or treat him like a joke, there was a general respect for the character overall and I really, really, appreciate that being a Gambit fan
The Cons : Look, I have nothing against Tatum personally. He just doesn't look right. He's too think in body shape (not meant in a derogatory way), and his face just doesn't work in the headsock. Not to mention the costume looked plastic and cheap.
I really hope Gambit is back, but can we have Tatum as Gambit here like we had JKras as Mr. Fantastic in Dr. Strange? Just a one time fun gag? Please??
Remy is having a really good year despite dying everywhere.
The Deadpool squad (or whatever) I'm afraid I haven't read enough Deadpool to really get it, but it was fun. The side scrolling action sequence reminded me of a video game. And honestly, Wolverine with his cowl on, just kind of loosely moving reminded me of a video game as well.
I'm super curious to see how Deadpool plays within the MCU now. Let's go for it.
The credits were a nice touch. I'm glad they could honor those films for what they did, and I'm glad we can now move on from them.
Tl:dr it was fun and I liked it! :)

Celebrating The One Year Anniversary of My Roommate Is Hades! PART 2!!
Episode 2: The Teacher’s Pet is HEPHAESTUS!
Tumblr media
All the fun details!
Honestly though, Hades and Homer arguing about dishes is such a married couple fight, I can confirm one person will always have a problem with the way the other does dishes 😂😂😂😂
(Also re: peplos: a dress worn in ancient Greece lol)
Tumblr media
Hades saying ‘you’re a person’ while walking and the sun hitting his eye in a way that really does make him look like a god, it’s kinda perfect 😎🖤
Tumblr media
Hermes saying this like tomato, tomahto is great because I don’t think they had tomatoes in Ancient Greece at all, I think they thought they were poisonous— (which if you hate tomatoes like I do, they are 😝)
Tumblr media
On the subject of etymology of names— Dr. Strom! Strom is German for electricity⚡️ ! So an electric automaton, its hidden in plain sight in his name lol
Tumblr media
Another thing I realized about names— Homer’s last name is Lehrer which is German for instructor. I’m sure this is applying to the fact that he’s ‘teaching’ Hades about the joys of being human to win—
Tumblr media
New reaction image 😂
Tumblr media
My absolute favourite thing is Hades’ not-so-subtle jealousy when Homer said he wanted to move in with Hephaestus. Homer tried to downplay by saying ‘you don’t want to live with a nerd’, but Hades then insisted that Homer should try harder with his bet and OMG HE’S SO JEALOUS 😂
Tumblr media
What in the perfect lookalike????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JG Nikola Tesla
Lastly, Thomas put the song ‘Weird Science’ by Oingo Boingo on the promo post for this episode which is hilarious because it was about 2 geeks brings a girl to life with computers… exactly what Hephaestus did with Dr Strom—
And the fact that Hephaestus’ style is very 80s makes soooo much more sense because of that haha
What did you think of this episode?
Continued in Part 3!

Had a bizarre conversation with a few friends who were raised multilingual a while back where they said german is an ugly language with all its sch/st/ch Sounds. Fascinating to me because I love those exact sounds.
Strauch is a perfect word to me, you can feel the branches as you begin saying is and the wind in the leaves as it ends. Eichhörnchen curls up around its acorn in your mouth, you feel its fur and its little claws. Schleier has that water-like ripple that comes with silk-shimmering, translucent fabric, it shimmers and obscures itself. Hauch dissolves as you say it, it’s entirely constructed of non-sounds. Plätschern can’t and doesn’t need to be explained because the two syllables do exactly that, they’re water in the brook of your throat. When you say Streicheln you first sink your fingers into fur, then run them through — that word gets quieter as you say it and ends with your tongue gently tucked behind your teeth and a smile. The intimacy of that word can’t be put into “petting”, it’s not comparable at all. Stachelig uses similar sounds, both the ST and the CH, but here theres no sinking and gentle massage, instead you can barely touch the word, you dance it around in your mouth trying not to get pricked on its syllables. Strom and Sog pull at you and suck you in, Stock clatters from your mouth, Märchen is an embroidered smile. On that note: Stickerei and embroidery both feel exactly like they should in your mouth, one is a row of delicate stitches, one is the coarse feeling of stitches under your fingertips. I’m getting off topic though, let me just say that Schaum fills your mouth, you speak around it and then feel it melt on your tongue — foam does the same, but with Schaum you also hear the waves, the sea, you taste the salt. Which, of course, you also do in Gischt, where water hits the shore and flows back over the sand.
But my point was — I was so shocked to hear this consensus that it’s those sounds that make German an ugly language. They’re so expressive to me, I need them to taste and feel what I’m saying.

the Orkney trip
part 12
day 10 (continued)
The orkney blues festival! I started sitting in the royal hotel, first featuring a texan and spider who was on harmonica. The texan performed with Jerry Jeff Walker and got a request to do Mister Bojangles, I was extremely delighted as the song is special to me too. I don't remember was it them or were the italiens who came after who also played a whiter shade of pale which is again special to me due to being a withnail and i soundtrack. Later on in the evening, there was this guy called Ian Siegal who had a Kris Kristofferson story to tell (in which Kristofferson mistook him for someone else during a concert) with a song written in Kristofferson's style.
Malcolm from the ferry was sitting just next to me and gave me some old time banjo recommendations. Of them I'm really enjoying Bruce Molsky right now, his version of the wreck of the dandenong accompanied me from Thurso to Inverness where I am at the moment waiting for the connecting train to take me to Edinburgh. He also recommended me Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer who collaborated with a chinese musician and produced an album called "from china to appalachia" wherein they play both classic chinese and appalachian tunes with banjos and chinese classical hammered dulcimar (i used to play chinese dulcimar too) and it sounded beautiful. I cannot believe the existence of this album. The true "folk music from around the world unite" moment.
Tumblr media
local tribute band at the legion.
Tumblr media
the italiens, tom attah, and two californian harmonica players who just happened to be around for the festival. they played with the band in the legion too. At one time they had three harmonica players in the house. It was so much fun because it was an instrument I truely adore, those two californians are all good players and Spider from aberdeen is simply phenomenal.
Tumblr media
the finale performance in the town hall.
Tumblr media
They all jam very well together. it was a bit of a tribute concert for the singer Kyla Brox's (she has a powerful and beautiful voice perfect for the blues) late father too, she invited Ian Siegal to do a song she used to do with her dad and required two voices, which was a really heartfelt performance in my opinion. Everyone was having fun.
Tumblr media
musicians being musicians
Tumblr media
But if I have to pick a favourite, it's the Aberdeen Harmonica player for sure! I recorded everything and they sound reasonably good, here's a link if anyone's interested. I don't usually listen to this kind of blues but just the energy and virtuosity makes it all worthwhile.
Advertisement time, Brown's hostel in Stromness, 25£ could get you a superb bed if shared with others (there were three beds in my room but no one else was there that night). It's over fifty years old now and accordingly was the first hostel in Stromness. They had sleeping bags on bunk beds at first, but gradually people started to expect better rooms and facilities and she gradually upgraded everything.
When I phoned her, I said I just needed one bed. She didn't have any single room anymore, so asked "do you mind sharing?" I said "oh no of course not definitely". Then I thought where have I heard this dialogue before: fortunately this ain't nantucket, the whaling industry has died out, and there was no harpooner coming back from peddling his head. It was a Sunday too.

day 11
Catching the 6:30 ferry from Stromness to Scrabster. Final farewell to The Old Man and to the island of Hoy. Put on Farewell to Stromness as well, be cheesy.
Tumblr media
The seastack is clearly visible.
Tumblr media
Waiting for the train in Thurso, killing time in a second hand bookshop with a sizable collection of books about seafaring and ships. The owner said he always buy books about ships and has got five times as much back home. Noted down a few names that I might go home and look up online.
Tumblr media
Finally, the sign of the national cycles network route 1 in front of thurso station. It's where I started, it's my "to and back again". Met quite a few cyclists who did the route from land's end to John O'Groats.

Texas Rangers: 2023 World Series Champions
Tumblr media
PHOENIX -- The Texas Rangers are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history after surviving Arizona ace Zac Gallen’s no-hit bid, getting a gutsy effort from starter Nathan Eovaldi and bringing their ample bats to the late innings in a thrilling 5-0 victory in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Chase Field.
In ending MLB’s longest title drought among title-less teams, the Rangers, who joined the American League as the expansion Washington Senators in 1961 before moving to Arlington and rebranding in '72, showed their mettle in what was, for eight innings, an ultra-tight tilt.
One night after erupting for 11 runs -- including 10 in the second and third innings -- Texas was held scoreless until Mitch Garver’s seventh-inning single brought newly minted two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager home to break a scoreless tie. The Rangers then took advantage of an untimely Alek Thomas fielding error in a four-run ninth highlighted by Marcus Semien’s two-run homer.
Eovaldi, on the other hand, had to sweat his way to success. He had baserunners abound, allowing four hits and five walks in six innings. But the D-backs went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position against him to strand all nine of those runners. They had two aboard with none out in the third, when No. 3 hitter Gabriel Moreno questionably put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, and nothing came of it.
In short, the Snakes let Eovaldi off the hook and, in the process, left themselves vulnerable to anything short of perfection by their ace.
"I kind of joked around that I didn’t know how many rabbits I had left in my hat," Eovaldi said. "I didn’t really help myself out in some of those situations. Other times, they put together quality at-bats and were able to find the whole. A lot of the credit goes to Jonah back there behind the plate. He called a great game. We were on the same page for the most part. We were able to come out on top. That was the main thing."
Gallen finally bent in the seventh, and it began in an ironic way. Seager broke up the no-no, but he didn’t do it in the style that suited him all series. Rather, it was a softly hit grounder to the opposite side -- a ball that would have been harmless if third baseman Evan Longoria hadn’t been shifted toward shortstop. The ball reached the outfield grass, and the Rangers had life.
Reflecting a theme of this series, the Rangers seized the moment in a way the D-backs did not. Evan Carter ripped a double to put two runners in scoring position. And after a consultation on the mound with pitching coach Brent Strom, Gallen gave up a ground-ball single up the middle to Garver to bring Seager home with the game’s first run.
"Gallen was unbelievable tonight, but we came through," Semien said. "Once Corey got the first hit, everybody kind of woke up."
Though Gallen recovered to strike out Josh Jung and October relief hero Kevin Ginkel came on to record the last two outs and escape a bases-loaded jam of his own making in the eighth, the D-backs were made to pay for their early inability to cash in at the plate. The Rangers came out swinging in the ninth against Arizona closer Paul Sewald with consecutive singles from Jung and Nathaniel Lowe. Heim ripped a single to center that Thomas misplayed. The ball scooted toward the wall, as Jung and Lowe hustled home and Heim streaked to third. Two outs later, Semien went deep for the second time in as many nights to make it 5-0, igniting a Texas-sized soiree, 52 years in the making.
"This is the biggest moment, the World Series," Semien said. "Put up four runs in the ninth inning to be up 5-0 after being no-hit, it just felt so good. [I] just looked over to the bench and screamed. It’s just an unbelievable feeling."

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight not a footprint to be seen a kingdom of isolation and it looks like I'm the king
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside couldn't keep in heaven knows I've tried
Don't let them in, don't let them see be the good boy you always have to be conceal don't feel don't let them know well know they know!
Let it go, let it go can't hold it back anymore Let it go, let it go turn away slam the door!
I don't care what they're going to say let the Strom rage on the cold never bothered me anyway
It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small and the fears that once control me can't get to me at all!
It's time to see what I can do to test the limits and break through no right, no wrong, no rules for me I'm free!
Let it go, let go I am one with the wind and sky Let it go, Let it go you'll never see me cry!
Here I stand and here I'll stay let the strom rage on!
Let it go, let it go And I'll rise like the break of dawn Let it go, let it go that perfect boy is gone
My power flurries through the air into the ground my soul is spiraling frozen fractals all around and thought the crystallizes like an icy blast! I'm never going back the past is the past!
Here I stand in the light of day let the storm rage on! The cold never bothered me anyway

Dianne Feinstein's extremely awkward, very uncomfortable exit from the political stage
Democrats in her home state are moving on even as she isn’t.
this makes me a little sad, and also.... if Feinstein was a man they'd never do this, Chuck Grassley is just as old there's not any effort to push him off the boat, we can pick a dozen male names (Strom Thurmond was in office till he was 100, and ran for re-election that final time age 93) in case it seems like I'm picking on Republicans, Robert Byrd, Daniel Inouye, Frank Lautenberg (off the top of my head) if you're an old man who's been in office for years and years the natural instinct is to respect that and any wish you have to die in the chair
we saw with Nancy Pelosi the endless push about "age" and her "time" etc etc and with Feinstein everyone is acting like she's dead (which was the case de León was making 6 years ago, and oh hey here she is not dead yet) I think personally yeah at 90-91 years old, for any one its not really realistic to expect to still be with us after 6 years, sure it can happen but at that age don't be planning on it, but again Thurmond ran for his finally term in his 90s, any ways do I think she will retire? yes, do I think she should retire? also yes. Does he make me spitting mad that they'd never treat a man this way? fuck yes.
No that's pretty much exactly how I feel - from this post:
No one is really asking or bringing these questions up with senators like Dick Shelby, or Jim Inhofe, or Pat Leahy, or Bernie Sanders, or Chuck Grassley - all of whom are around the same age as Feinstein (and that’s just in the Senate - there’s Hal Rogers, Steny Hoyer, Bill Pascrell, etc. in the House) and decline or perceived weaknesses and health issues get brought up more easily and quickly and negatively with women in public office than with men, and there’s almost this shock or offense when you try to discuss men being weak or flawed or ill.
DiFein is also the perfect "unpopular" Democrat where people can feel even freer to do this and couch it in some kind of principled or policy/ideology basis.
I think the other thing is how little recognition or discussion of her legislative and political achievements there are - she's just treated like a burden, like your grandma or great aunt that you're tired of visiting and want to put somewhere else "better for her".
