This picture comes from a photoshoot commission that I did at EuroFurence 23. The smoke set off a fire alarm in the building next to the hotel XD!
During one of my photoshoots my model accidentally started to summon satan it seems... We made it out alive tho!

Interfit S1 quick review
A few weeks ago the guys at interfit photographic UK kindly put this little beauty into my hands. It’s called the S1 and it means business.
As it’s the xmas period I’ve been in my usual state of pre-holiday mania, but I have managed to have a little play with it and here are my initial thoughts.
Firstly, this thing is beautiful. It’s clearly aimed at professionals with discerning taste. With its sleek black exterior and battery sitting flush to the body, it’s definitely looking to turn heads.
It feels well built in the hand, with a reliable but not unwieldy weight, comparable to a smaller entry level studio flash. Which is impressive considering that there’s a huge Lithium battery attached. The controls layout is uncluttered and easy to use. I especially love the battery’s power checker which lights up green at the push of a button. Each one has its own so they don’t have to be connected to know which batteries are full and which need charging.
The screen is large and clear, and the buttons are absolute in their responsiveness.
It’s clear even at a glance that this has been made to handle life on the go, despite having the option to plug in and run off of mains (which works whether the battery is connected or not).
The handle on the bottom makes for easy angle adjustments whilst atop a stand and the clever placement of the vents underneath should help ensure that no water enters the unit should you get caught in a sudden shower whilst working outside (as happened to me the first time I took it out)
Performance wise I have no complaints, the battery is claimed to last for 350 full power flashes but I’ve been using it mostly at a much lower power and even after 5/600 frames I have barely made a dent. The shot above where the battery is on 2/4 bars is on shoot #4 without a recharge. At full power the recycle time could be a little faster but as I rarely shoot maxed out and I prefer to compose and reshoot than spray and pray it isn’t something that is going to cause me any problems. Though it’s worth noting if that’s the main way you work.
I’ll be writing an in depth review once I’ve spent a little more time putting it through its paces but I have to say that it’s made a great first impression. 500Ws over a 7 stop range (controllable in 10ths) is more than enough for a mobile flash head. Especially when the HSS allows for extra dulling of ambient light. Colour temperature is accurate and daylight balanced(ish) which is really useful. Personally I love the warm glow of my older studio lights but if you’re working with gels or light sources of differing colours then being able to “eyeball” it without running back and forwards to retake test shots saves buckets of time.
Outside of the normal buttons that you’d expect to find on a flash head, the S1 also has a small USB port underneath the control dial for upgrades. How cool is that? Having the option for improved functionality via firmware updates is a nice touch and certainly preferable to buying a product only to have it quickly outdated by a marginally better version.
Also, did I mention that this is a £650 head?!
£650 is hardly pocket change, I know, but I can stick a big ol’ light drinking modifier on this, go out and do a full shoot any time of the day and not worry about the light being too weak to overpower the sun, or too strong for night time work. All of that without a mass of dangling wires or swinging battery packs. I don’t know many other ways to achieve that without several compromises.
Unfortunately I can’t share the final images from the main shoots I’ve done with it yet so I’ve included a few sneaky BTS where you can see the S1 being used with the 120cm parabolic Softbox (which may now be my favourite modifier) . I’ve also included a self portrait from my recent trip to Barcelona where I used the Modeling lamp as soft fill, and a shot of me chatting away with the S1 and pop up Softbox* in hand. This is such a speedy set up and I highly recommend getting a similar modifier for rapid get-up-and-go shoots. They offer a collapsible beauty dish which I’ve heard great things about but not tried myself yet.
*softbox does not fit on the reflector that comes with the S1 but does fit the smaller Bowen’s ones if you happen to have any of those.
Stay tuned for the unboxing video and a more in depth review very soon!
