For those not tapped into Australian politics, King Charles is in Australia to conduct his "historic first tour to the commonwealth realm" i.e visting countries that King Charles is supposedly a monarch to.

Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe had requested an audience with King Charles for weeks prior to this visit, she wrote countless letters to speak to him. Unlike other commonwealth nations and other former Brisitish colonies, a treaty with Indigenous peoples in Australia was never formed. Their land was never ceded to the British Crown. After being denied and ignored, Lidia Thorpe, draped in a traditional possum skin cloak, stormed in the Great Hall during the reception for Charles at Parliament House in the capital shouting the following:

I'm tired of people treating optimism as childish and nieve.

Do you realize how hard it is to see the good in the world nowadays? Do you have any idea how hard it is to choose to fight when everything is dragging you down? Do you have a single clue how much strength it takes to not give up on the world when it's in a constant state of falling apart?

I am not an optimist because I ignore the pain and suffering around me. I am not an optimist because I am ignorant. I am an optimist because I choose to make the world a better place.

I choose to build and fight instead of giving up or tearing things down. I give a little piece of myself up to every person in my life so I can help them up. I stumble through failure and disappointment and being beaten down by those in the same place as me.

I fight every day, every moment of my life, to make the world a better place. Of course I'm angry. I'm angry at the state of the world. I'm angry at people doing nothing but tearing others down. And I use that anger to keep me from falling into the same pit of despair that people say is so mature.

I will continue to fight the right way. I will continue to trip and fall and give up pieces of myself, and do everything I can to make the world a better place.
