Idk if I fully understand ffxiv being native-phobic? I just played through stormblood & what I got from that was colonialism bad, to put it in super simple terms. Like idk the entire point of it was liberate an oppressed peoples and give them back their homes? And maybe I missed it but I didn't see the Ala mhigans as being native coded or inspired?

You didn't see the Ala Mhigans being "Native Coded" because they aren't and yet Ala Mhigan clothes use Native patterns. You didn't see FFXIV being "Native-Phobic" because it's generally not, it likes to hide it's racism away in little pockets.

It's hard to see it when you're not used to seeing it. This isn't your fault, it's that you're looking in the wrong places.

This is the "Ala Mhigan Gown" it's being largely attributed to being "Ala Mhigan" it is not. It is Native.

These patterns are Native, and while I cannot claim exactly and exclusively which tribes use them I can say for certain that I'm Deer Clan Lakota and these patterns are ALL OVER my traditional Native clothing. To attribute our clothing to Ala Mhigo is wrong.

This pattern is being reproduced and sold as Ala Mhigan, as "Kimonos" and lastly, as cosplay.

And these patterns can be found across plenty of First Nation/Indigenous clothing and beadwork.

This is just ugh. Believe it or not I like the pants, and the actual torso and shoes aren't bad either. IF (and this isn't the case) this set were to exclude the headdress and were to actually pay proper respect to Native design and culture I'd love it. I actually used to use this set in game minus the headdress obviously, but wouldn't you know it I'm literally Native. This feels like those party city costumes people make, and the parts it gets right are almost more upsetting because it's not being properly attributed to the right people despite knowing very well the devs clearly referenced actual Natives. Those straps on the pants for example are a very real thing, the clothing my father passed down to me has those, tipped with metal because it makes enough noise to scare off rattlesnakes since those were a threat for kids on the res. The colors and bead patterns also do follow a lot of various Native designs, though I find it harder to pin down these exact patterns.

You're looking at the plot, but that's not entirely where the problem lies; also sorry sorry but I can't overlook this. None of the story or plot justifies Zenos calling me a Savage. I do not care if he's the antagonist, that's a fucking slur. It's been used against me and my people for decades. It's been used against me when I was in middle and high school. So yes, even in recent times this is acknowledged as a slur by racist individuals seeking to cause us harm.

If you've never gotten into a physical fight that you didn't instigate only to have someone ask you "what are you gonna do savage? You gonna scalp me?" And then do the worst imitation of a Native war cry; you likely have no idea how annoying it is to see/hear even a villain in a video game call you a fucking savage, have this be hand-waved as kinda being whatever by the general public who don't deal with this kind of racism, and then furthermore when you go into FFXIV community spaces you see this blonde ass white boy being plastered up everywhere like "oh I wanna fuck him so bad" why do you want to fuck a racist?! He's not even hot. Any potential sex appeal he had left his body the second he uttered the word "savage" and you know the worst part? He's not real. Which means he didn't say that shit, someone at Square WROTE that into the game and really thought "hey is it okay to use a slur like this? Yeah it'll be fine no one is gonna know or care."

Can you IMAGINE if they had a villain drop the N word mid fight? You'd never hear the end of it I assure you.

I think the biggest issue is that people don't even know what Native is, they don't know tribes, they don't know patterns, they don't know our actual history.

You say you don't know how it's "Native-phobic" when it's racism and mockery of Natives is very apparent to Natives, but I can't fault you for it because you literally don't know what to look for.

I want to make it super clear I'm not mad at you, I'm upset that this game can get away with this shit because no one is actually educated on Native matters, culture, etc.

I hope this helps clear that up a little.

In another time, another place

There’s just something about characters speculating how their lives could have gone differently that is pure catnip to me! Especially characters where, but for a few key choices, they might have wound up as a hero rather than a villain, or vice versa.

Now combine that with having an NPC cosplay alt, meaning that I spend a not-insignificant portion of my FFXIV playtime wondering what that character would think about lots of random stuff.

End result: an entire menagerie of Fordola-centric plot bunnies! This post will be an attempt to corral said bunnies into a form that’s at least somewhat organized. It will also grow over time as I add writeups for new AUs if and when they become relevant to what I’m posting on this sideblog!

To Catch a Falling Star: Instead of leaving for Doma, Lyse spends Stormblood infiltrating the Skulls, with the ultimate goal of convincing Fordola to defect to the Resistance. When your army gets decimated, just steal the other guy’s one, you know?

Eventual Fordola/Lyse, with a complicated enemies-to-lovers arc.

WoL!Fordola AU: Not WoLFordola like the ship, WoL!Fordola as in the original Warrior of Light, the Meteor Survivor who fought at Carteneau, who destroyed the Ultima Weapon, who ended the Dragonsong War… he died to Zenos at the end of Stormblood. Oops!

Now Fordola is the only one left who has the fighting skill needed to even have a chance of filling his shoes.

This is the timeline I’m basically writing as I take my alt through the MSQ. It starts out as a continuation of TCaFS (so technically TCaFS is one of my WoL’s backstories in a roundabout way haha). But it gets even weirder. Fordola might be the new WoL, for example, but it’s Krile who is the shard of Azem!

WoL was out fishing, Fordola did the sidequests instead: Not an AU so much as a common premise I use. Fics in this series assume that everything is the same as in canon, including there being some non-specific WoL (maybe even your WoL!) who exists and follows the normal MSQ. However, while they’re busy offscreen somewhere, Fordola is forced to pick up the slack for them and do sidequests where she doesn't usually appear.

My first FFXIV fic (Sympathetic Resonance aka "why is Fordola in Eureka?") would be part of this series, as would my WIP Sorrows of Werlyt fic.

8th Umbral Calamity: Shadowbringers never specifies whether Lyse and Fordola are killed by Black Rose in the bad timeline. What if they weren’t? Lots of fun (and by fun I mean tragic) ways that could play out!

Originally, this was going to be a kind of Apocalypse/Road Trip AU, with Lyse and Fordola traveling through a Black Rose-devastated Ala Mhigo and trying not to to kill each other before they reached Cid and the Ironworks.

Then I was writing an FFxivWrite entry and realized it would be interesting to combine it with another AU I had, where Fordola gets executed by the Resistance and winds up accidentally bodysharing with Lyse…

But man side note I’m really sad we never got to see Papalymo interact with Lyse *as Lyse.* and also the Yda lore never made sense to me like. Did Moenbryda know Yda’s little sister was cosplaying her? Why does nobody ask Lyse-as-Yda about her little sister? Did anybody even know Yda HAD a sister? What was their age gap? I LOVE WHEN THE LALAFELLS GET MEAN. tataru is holding me over with her zest for life but o really do miss having a middle age lalafell to play the straight man to the other scions antics. I think he wouldve had a lot of fun chemistry with post-HW urianger when his personality picks back up and i think he and yshtola would been a great powerful of likeminded study-based knowledge seekers. literally he and yda felt so contained To Just Each Other that he didnt get ANY time with even the other scions that just the thought of us getting a chance to see how he felt about everyone feels like it wouldve been amazing. I'm reasonably happy with the outfit, but the wig was a nightmare. I've never styled a wig before, and it didn't work out as well as I hoped.

Still planning on bringing it to Fanfest in October, along with a FFXIV Cait Sith.

Yoship literally did Reaper and Gunbreaker, I don't think it's that out of his wheelhouse to cosplay as Pictomancer. The model is pretty cute in the outfit though.

The secondary song is pretty interesting, I'm curious what it'll be used for. Maker's Ruin ended up being the song that played in the final phase of Endsinger.

Oh interesting, they're adjusting the Germanic name from the original name to something new to avoid the name duplicate? It makes sense I guess, they don't need to keep to a name that was chosen 20 odd years ago and they're changing the lore of the job for 14.

Wait for all final fantasy going forward they're using Piktomant? That's actually pretty neat, wonder if they'll update the remasters or leave it for now.

Oh fuck, I don't know if I'm ready to come back next week and I'm not on twitter really anymore so I guess I'll avoid most spoilers. 24 maintenance is to be expected, with the server upgrades. Glad for the Japanese servers, that'll be good for them. Plus it'll help them come xpac release and hopefully we won't have as bad a first week again.

Huh. Two part structure story. They kind of did that with Stormblood and Endwalker and they weren't handled as well as I would have liked narratively, so hopefully they'll have a more cohesive blend of the two stories.

That's a western looking town there. Lots of different cultural hubs and villages it looks like which will be fascinating to explore.

Black Mage -- Final Fantasy IV Stormblood [part 1] Jacket

Final Fantasy IV have so many beautiful character. Stormblood I choose Black Mage. I’m interesting of the jacket.

Here’s the WIP.

1. Materials - fabrics

2. Top part.

The jacket has so many details, so I start to work on the top.

3. Adding some details and start working on the bottom of jacket

4. Adding more details

5. Now time to add collar and sleeves and trimming the bottom.

6. Nest step, working on inner. I made it 2 pieces. Need to tear off the tip of blue one.

7. Now, join everything. Will wear 3 pieces.

Next, I will work on the trinkets.

Hello! I’m Alice,* and I’ve been playing FFXIV for about two and a half years now. I just finished Dawntrail, and it’s the first time I’ve ever been fully caught up on the MSQ!

Since my main blog (thewhitefluffyhat) mostly focuses on other fandoms, I decided to make this side blog to collect my various FFXIV projects and thoughts. These will mostly come in two flavors, associated with my main and my alt!

Main: Alice Rozen

This is my main, Alice Rozen! I do have some lore for her - the basic idea is that she’s the theoretical character of the same name if the broad strokes of Rozen Maiden happened in Eorzea by way of that spooky Gridanian goldsmith - but the primary thing I do with her is glam and cosplay.

In particular, all her job role glams are themed after the Rozen Maiden dolls, and one of my first priorities will be to do some updated photoshoots of them with the new graphics for Eorzea Collection.

(*I realize the distinction between Alice-the-player and Alice-the-character is a bit confusing but ‘thewhitefluffyhat’ is a mouthful so everyone in my FC just called me by Alice’s name and it stuck. Ah well, it's not like I RP in-character as Alice very often...)

Alt: Fordola Lupis

In addition to Alice, I also have an NPC cosplay alt of Fordola! Who exists because I finished Stormblood on my main, realized there probably wouldn’t be much Fordola in the next expansion, and then played the game again from the beginning just so I could drag this dumbass kicking and screaming through Shadowbringers.

Anyway I’m very much a yuri fan, so while I do love Arenvald, most of the Fordola stuff I’ll be posting is Fordola/Lyse.

Eventually, I really want to do a series of mini-fanfic posts telling the story of what happened so differently in Stormblood that Fordola ends up in the role of the Warrior of Light… once I get more experience with posing, that is!
