The new normal?
Have just been watching footage of the world's latest flooding disaster - this time it was storm Bert in Wales. A month's worth of rain in 24hrs.
The new essential life skills for humanity now seem to be the following:
Sand bagging, bucket bailing, carrying possessions above your head through chest deep water, paddling an inflatable raft down your street, dragging sodden house contents to the nature strip, shoveling mud, learning how to live without insurance cover ever again.

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday ...
Storm Bert has blown through like the Big Bad Wolf and thrown down the wet stuff in great quantities. Not that I noticed much of what was going on, as I did my usual in such inclement circumstances and slept through the whole thing.
I miss the sea but appreciate being middle earth bound when the weather's like this. This little piggy's house is still in one piece, no-one huffed and puffed and blew down my front door, and the wolf proved to be not such a bad fella and has refrained from eating Grandma.
A good feeling to wake up, get up and potter outside to see the trees still standing.
The big question (of course) is ... will the newspapers have made it to the garage? How else will I know it's Groundhog Day TV and have a newspaper to not read but simply use to wrap cat litter in. And yes, I freely admit that I take a childish pleasure in putting cat poop on the faces of certain people. ;-D
The other big question iiiiiis ... will the Brennans bread van be in evidence? I've seen it every time I've gone into the shiny metropolis ... so ... surely there'll be a 'not so rare' sighting of it today. And, who knows, the man from the Brennans van may just perform his special time machine 'stale bread to fresh' trick for me :-)

Why did they have to name a big, dangerous storm Bert. You could have named it so many other things that people would actually take seriously but you called it Bert

The weather these last couple of days has been pretty frightful and overnight it was a howling gale and slashing it down with rain. In fact it still is, which means going to the Sunday market has become a non idea. I want to go for a workout at the gym but the weather is holding me back. I am doing what some people may say is procrastinating. So I am writing instead and not doom scrolling or…

Earlier this week I was asked if there was any update on the grievance letter I wrote to the funeral director back in September. My answer to the question was "kind of!"... click the link if you would like to read more...

Storm Bert and trains
Currently a lot of weather is happening, and this can lead to train delays. You might be wondering, “Why does severe weather lead to train delays? After all, trains are big, heavy, and waterproof, surely they’re immune to effects from storms?” Well, you see, although trains may be unaffected by the whims of nature, the things near trains are not so indestructible. So trees may get in the way, or possibly mudslides, or -worst of all- the catenary itself may be damaged by extreme weather or the objects thrown at it by the wind. Also, floods can hurt trains directly, since one of the only things heavier than a train is a whole bunch of water. While here at Network Rail we do not know if trains can float (and since BR’s research division hasn’t existed for decades, we have no way to find out) we do know that train tracks don’t work very well underwater. (It is Network Rail’s job to look after the tracks, if there is a flood then Network Rail will be right there with some buckets to get those tracks cleared in no time)
