i guess it’s time to dust off the old soap box. because i’m disappointed and disgusted by some of you.

to preface this, i am boycotting. i unfollowed all of their accounts, i blocked them on spotify, etc. this isn’t to punish the other six members, but to send a message to SM that their actions have consequences and that they’re unfortunately going to end up ruining RIIZE’s reputation for the shady way they are moving. they don’t deserve this. shotaro, eunseok, sungchan, wonbin, sohee, anton and seunghan all deserve better. that is the purpose of this boycott. i watched the streams on talk saxy skyrocket when he was announced to come back, i watched their twitter followers shoot up to 810k and i also watched them fall down to 732k (and still dropping) when the departure announcement was released.

i am ot7. but the way some of you are acting is despicable. it’s laughable how you guys are preaching about the harassment seunghan has received that has even spilled over to wonbin, sungchan, eunseok, sohee, etc. but then you turn around and harass people who have their own reasons to not participate in the boycott.

i agree, it would be nice if everyone could unite on this. but the reality is that people have their own attachments to the group and may not feel right ceasing all interaction with the group’s content. there are way more people participating in the boycott than you know. only about 100 people were amongst those who sent wreaths to SM and there are hundreds of thousands of people boycotting and rallying in seunghan’s honor.

which brings me to my next point. you guys are no better than the ones who sent funeral wreaths to seunghan, wrote his name in red ink, and told him to go to the han river and k*ll himself and that they’ll bully him until he does. sending death threats to people on tumblr because they aren’t doing what you want them to is the same thing. you’re cut from the same cloth. you want to preach about safety and mental health when it comes to him - which you should, he deserves to be safe and healthy - but then you turn around and send the same threats to someone who isn’t participating in the boycott. why is it okay when the person isn’t a celebrity? you people say that SM supports bullies, and they do, but you’re bullies too.

boycotting works. it does. i think more people should do it. but i also think it’s very hypocritical to bully and harass someone and send them death threats because they aren’t doing exactly as you are. behavior like that only drives someone further away from where you want them and you should be focusing your energy on those who are stalking and harassing the riize members and doxxing their families, not someone who just wants to write smut on tumblr.com.

i think some of you are boycotting for the wrong reasons. your goal and focus should be on the seven guys, not harassing people and waiting for the moment they turn anonymous asks back on so you can send them threats because they’re not completely cutting off the group. that’s embarrassing. that’s only giving more fuel to ot6s in the end. this is supposed to be a time where the fandom is united over his unfair departure from the group, but all you guys are doing is fighting and constantly adding fuel to the fire.

mythmerth 2024 merthur fic reading wrapped 💫

I am your host mythmerth, and these are my merthur ao3 fic reading stats. when I say stats, I mean lists of numbers and histograms and pie charts and all that. like im so serious its a bunch of oddly color coded numbers that also happen to mean I read a shit ton of gay fan fiction. if that’s fun for you you’re in the right place!

Before we begin with the numbers there’s some things I want to clarify:

This is not going to be my favorite merthur fic reads of 2024 because god this is loaded enough as is. if you’re looking for my 2024 recs, go HERE !! (I will link when I have the post made!)

These stats are wholly collected and compiled by me. Whenever I read or reread a merthur fic this year, I added the word count number to my list as soon as I was finished reading. I’ve seen some ao3 wrapped generators hanging around and I’m here to say that that is NOT what I used, and in fact from what I can tell would’ve been wildly inaccurate for me; this is the sweet sweet old fashioned data collection and thus has all the pros and cons involved in that.

For my data, all numbers are rounded to the nearest whole and written in the thousands unless specified otherwise. If you see a ‘26’ in my data images, assume that means roughly 26,000. For fics at a 25,501 word count, I rounded up to 26. For fics at a 25,499 word count, I rounded down to 25. the hope is that these even out at the end!

I am so excited and I have 0 regrets. 100% of these fics are merthur fics (including a very occasional poly fic) and I have never felt more off my rocker in my life.

all that being said…

it’s time for stats.

let’s begin with the complete 2024 tally before we get into the nitty gritty.

Between January and December of 2024, I read a total of 14,489,000 words. Yes, that is 14.5 million words of merthur fan fiction.

Of those 14.5 million, ~4.6 million were from fics I reread and ~9.9 million were from novel fics (aka I’d never read them before).

I read a total of 239 fics this year (N is NOT in the thousands). Of those 239 fics, 52 were rereads and 187 were novel.

Half (~119) of the 239 fics I read were above 44k and half of them were under 44k.

The average fic length id pick up was about 60k, and the specific word count I happened to read the most often was 39k.

Funnily, the average length of the fics I reread was 88k, and the average length of all the novel fics I read was 53k, so I guess I’m inclined to reread long fics more ???

The highest <completed> word count I read this year was Sorcerer’s Bane by BeautifulFiction, clocking in at a very scrumptious 265k words.

Not depicted in the image, but the longest series I read was Footloose’s ever infamous Loaded March, giving a hearty 1.26 million words to my count this year.

Now for the fun part…. monthly specifics…

From my monthly counts, May was my lowest at 732k words read and August was my highest with a very normal and regular 1.8 million words. read. in August. 1.8 million.

(once I saw those stats i wondered if I’d really gone berserk cause… what the hell was I on. is this normal? I don’t know what’s normal anymore)

I read an average of 1.2 million words per month, so I hover right around there with some exceptions (looking at you July and August. and May.)

This is a look into how I break down the months

Each novel read is noted with the right skew within the cell, and each reread is noted with a left skew. So for January, I had 7 rereads. Then I add them up and do general stats when the month is over: I read 20 fics in January that averaged at 65k each, for a total count of 1.3 million words.

Sometimes I’d mark fics in other ways to keep track of them, I did this with certain series and also to denote if a fic was unfinished. In August, I’d picked up Loaded March again and you can see those in blue. I also read Accidentally my Companion which is an unfinished work by Nakyrah, shown in green in the image (this is also the longest fic I read this year if you count ongoing, it’s at 276k as of now so check it out tehe)

I messed around with some histograms too~

While this is set up as a ‘histogram’, this is actually all 239 fics I recorded one by one laid out as a chaotic strip of lines. Each line is a fic, the height denotes word count. I have a pretty typical rhythm; read short fics between the super long ones, nothing too insane other than that diabolical spree of reading long fics I went on at the beginning of the year. I was about to get my bachelors alright? I was doing anything. my average word count in February was 114k okay I couldn’t be trusted. clearly, cause the first thing I did with my degree was make a fan fiction stat chart

Now this is a proper histogram: each bar represents a word count category and the height is how many in the category I read. As you can see, I’m very inclined to read the 23k-63k category. There’s also a spike at ~115k and I think that’s a bit funny. like why that set specifically? they Speak To Me

Speaking of fics I’m drawn to. You’re probably thinking, ‘the numbers are cool and all, but of those 14 million words of godforsaken merthur fics, what ratings did you read the most?’ I’m so glad you asked!

I read the MOST godforsaken ones.

I have no charts for this because I painstakingly went through all of my bookmarked fics from 2024 and tallied their ratings on paper to the best of my ability.

Out of the 187 novel fics I read (I don’t re-bookmark rereads so if I’d thought of this category sooner I would’ve been MUCH better off but I didn’t and now we’re here)

131 of them were Explicit (70%)

39 of them were Mature (21%)

13 of them were Teen (7%)

4 of them were General (2%)

And I guarantee the rereads look almost identical to this, if not more explicit. something about merlin and arthur and their explicit antics heal me; it’s always the filthiest I start reading when I’m feeling my lowest. I eat that shit UP. So if you’ve come to my page looking for Teen rated fics I fear this may Not Be The Place For You. I’ve read quite a number of very good T and G fics!!! I just. the mature ratings. they call me.

and lastly, I’d like to post my scrappy 2023 stats cause the year difference is. kinda funny

they consumed me body and soul and I haven’t looked back once.

Well, I'm sorry to report that the flipper who reno'd all the character out of this house had to give up the dream of selling it for $1.6M and lower it to $1.45M, to $1.1M, to $990K, to $939K, to $899K, to $830K, to $747K, to $732K, to $695K, and it currently lists for $675K. 5bds, 4ba, in Piles Grove, New Jersey. It looks like he purchased it for $162,500, but who knows what he spent fixing it. So, let's take a look inside. The Victorian fence is stunning.

Clearly, the central entrance hall was removed. This open floor plan looks weird and so awkward.

Umm, if I have to guess, I'd say that, b/c of the alcove, reception room and dining room walls were removed

This is now the new dining room and the open kitchen. The fireplace was given a new modern facade.

They made a large L-shaped step-down kitchen.

These may have been the original service stairs.

New guest powder room.

Laundry room with door to a new deck, but it's on the 2nd fl. You would think it would be a bedroom with access to a deck.

I'm very confused by the layout of this home, and the real estate photos are all mixed up.

The main stairs look like they have the original railing painted black.

This must be the primary bedroom and en-suite. Interesting open shower, so this is like a wet room, but look at how far away the wall niches are for shampoo and stuff.

Going up to the 3rd level.

There's a kitchenette at the top of the stairs.

Then, some more bedrooms and a bath.

They're showing the hardware, but it's new reproduction stuff.

So. Let's do this.

I literally posted last year's goals within an hour of January 1st last year, and then, well. January happened. February happened.

As of note, I only met one of these goals, which was to finish and post one multi-chap fic.

Technically, I made it to stretch goal 3 on that list because I finish and posted three. (Four, if you want to count Thrall, which I started in December of 2022 but primarily wrote in 2023.)

I did not meet any of the rest of those goals.

(I was close on the book reading goal, though. I just didn't finish a book in September. Alas.)

So - this year's goals are going to be...smaller in terms of the bare minimum, just based on this past year, but there will probably be bigger stretch goals.

Something like that.

Oh, also, as in earlier goal setting years, I will be adding stuff that's religious-ish? So. That's a thing.

Write five days a week. I get Sundays off and then I will give myself an additional day off. (This also helps with really bad migraine days, which are usually ~48hrs.) Stretch Goal #1: Write an average of 1k daily by the end of the year (aka write 366k+). Stretch Goal #2: Write 400k by the end of the year. Stretch Goal #3: Write 500k by the end of the year. Stretch Goal #4: Write 600k by the end of the year. Stretch Goal #5: Write 700k by the end of the year. Stretch Goal #6: Write an average of 2k daily by the end of the year (aka write 732k+). This last stretch goal has been a general goal of mine for a while now, and it would be really cool if I made it. I was very close in 2022. But we'll...we'll see.

Finish the rough of another profic. Specifically, finish the rough of immortal witch riding hood. Stretch Goal #1: Finish the rough of two profic. Specifically, finish the rough of the currently unstarted shade fic.

Revisit Soulless. By which I mean, this one will take a lot of editing and restructuring. The idea of everything this will need done to it is intimidating to me but I would like to revisit it. So here it goes.

Finish and post at least one multi-chapter fic. By which I will specify that I mean it can be a fic I started in a previous year, so long as it is finished this year, it will count. I'm not going to add stretch goals to this because this past year I did a lot of one-shots instead of multi-chapter fics, and I don't want to prioritize one over the other. I'm not sure I even want posting to be a goal so much as the other writing goals. But this is a hold over? So we'll see how I feel at the end of this year.

Finish one book a month. No stretch goal here. I just want to keep reading.

Maintain current Bible memorization (Ephesians).

Finish current Bible memorization (2 Timothy) and maintain it.

Add to Bible memorization and maintain it. I know this sounds very nonspecific. The reason the maintain is on here is because I've memorized chunks of Scripture before and haven't kept them up, and I would like to make sure that I keep what I've memorized. I also have specific books in mind to memorize next (as well as specific chapters in the Psalms and one to review in Isaiah), but I don't want to specify those to hold me to them instead of going as led. But! I really like Bible memory! I like being able to catch whenever those verses are used and say them with the speaker! And a lot of time memorizing helps me to actually understand what's written better, particularly with context, particularly noticing stuff that gets repeated. And it's a way for me to meditate on the Word. All of which are good things! So!

So that's the goals. Most of the minimums haven't changed, and now there's a new thing, so. Yeah? We'll see how that goes?

And y'all can feel free to check in on them throughout the year if you want, too! That'd be cool? I guess? Either way, these are primarily for me to look back on next January. ^^

continued Bible memorization (right now i’ve been reviewing Romans - and reciting stuff so frequently brings different things to light; it’s cool)

be able to use household utensils and eat food cooked at the house (ocd sucks, my friends)

finish at least the rough draft of one multi-chapter project (probably fanfic, probably carla or if you lived here, you’d be home now)
