we replaced our second hand walmart futon with a futon we got from my parents when my brother moved out (i think we’re it’s third owner now? they found it at an estate sale). its this slatted design made up of solid wooden boards, and the back of it lays back at a few different angles like a beach chair with a couple of notches it slots into.
my new favorite nap setup is to set it to the lowest slot so it’s leaned back, pop my feet up on the ottoman, turn on our fake fireplace heater, and curl up with this massive purple quilt i got at my local anarchist free store a few years back. poor man’s heaven.

This huge brick 1900 Craftsman in New Castle, Indiana is a fixer upper, but it has such unique features, it's well worth the price. 5bds, 4ba, reduced $10.1K to $289,900.
Tumblr media
Large entrance hall with original butternut wood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The parlor has attractive turquoise tiles on the fireplace and it has beautiful built-in bookcases.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The living room also has a fireplace, plus look at those beautiful columns between the living and dining rooms. And, the owners left an organ, too.
Tumblr media
The dining room has double doors to the hall, wainscoting, and a built-in cabinet. They also left a piano. I love the swinging door to the kitchen- it has a little window just like a restaurant door.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the table over the radiator here in the informal dining room and it also has a beautiful built-in cabinet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen has original cabinets, but one thing confuses me. It looks like they replaced some of the door fronts with plywood. Other than that, it's a wonderful kitchen.
Tumblr media
The pantry has this original big honkin' freezer. I wonder if it still works. Even if it doesn't, it's cool and could be used for storage.
Tumblr media
Nice remodeled powder room has the original medicine cabinet and a nice pedestal sink.
Tumblr media
The finished basement has a rec room with a bar. It needs a floor and I love the stained glass ceiling, but I wonder if it can be refurbished.
Tumblr media
There's also a full kitchen down here.
Tumblr media
On the landing to the 2nd level is a delicate stained glass window.
Tumblr media
At the top of the stairs is a large sitting area with a fireplace. The roof must've leaked b/c all the ceilings on this floor need repair.
Tumblr media
The principal bedroom has lovely fireplace with mint green tiles.
Tumblr media
The ceiling is damaged in here and it's also affected the wall, but look at the little cubby. Love the doors, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This bathroom between 2 bedrooms is original. Look at how beautiful the tile is, and that little font with the faucet in the wall. How unique is that? It has the original sconces and etched mirror on the medicine cabinet.
Tumblr media
The bedrooms are so full of light.
Tumblr media
The smaller room was used as a child's room.
Tumblr media
Look at this bath- love the tile around the sink and the original heater. It has a built-in cabinet, but whatever that wire is hanging down, should be fixed b/c it's not going to pass inspection.
Tumblr media
This is nice- a large 2nd level deck.
Tumblr media
The attic is a very large finished space but the ceiling is water damaged.
Tumblr media
This area need to be finished.
Tumblr media
The beautiful outdoor wood features need to be repainted.
Tumblr media
There's a 2 car garage, but not much of a yard b/c most of the space was blacktopped. The lot is .25 acre.

Radio Free Monday
Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
(Quick message to Anon who submitted an item for their friend who is fundraising for food and meds -- the post was deleted and I couldn't find another one on a quick skim, so I'm guessing they took down their fundraising, that's the reason they aren't included!)
Ways to Give:
doctorscienceknowsfandom linked to a fundraiser for larjb3; they met when Larjb3 contacted them thinking they were a medical doctor, to ask about a lump on her neck. After a long diagnostic journey, it was diagnosed as Ewing Sarcoma, rare in adults, and she is looking at possibly having to quit her job to focus on survival. She's raising funds for medical bills, household bills, and against the months of treatment ahead, and you can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Anon linked to a fundraiser for Eddie, a hard-working LGBTQ artist in the rural South, trying to move himself and his pets to the west coast to build a new life; he's been dealing with a string of escalating issues where he is, and the move will help open up opportunities and keep him safe. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
forlorn-kumquat is raising funds to get seating and storage for their third-grade classroom, to help their students learn comfortably. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Recurring Needs:
Anon linked to a fundraiser for a friend whose family has not had a working furnace since November; they've been using space heaters to keep warm but January in Chicago has been brutal and the space heaters aren't sufficient. With vulnerable family members including elderly relatives and children in the home, they need to raise $6K to get the furnace replaced. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Anon linked to karla-hoshi or Hoshi on TikTok, who is raising funds for cancer treatment for her cat Naku; they caught the cancer early and hope that he can survive it. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
chingaderita's partner's family house recently caught fire and completely burned, killing his grandmother and causing extensive property loss; he has also recently lost his job due to the fire, and a number of family members have since become ill. They're raising funds to keep food on the table, and get their partner mental health aid, and now are looking at doctor's bills for medical treatment. You can read more, reblog, and support the fundraiser here.
nivchara-yahel and rivalconga are raising funds to cover January and now February's rent and fees; their synagogue had agreed to help, but backed out after the deadline had passed for payment. They're trying to raise what they need before the landlord files for eviction; you can read more and support the fundraiser here.
thelastpyler is raising funds for food and medication for them and their family, and for transportation costs to medical appointments; you can read more, reblog, and find giving information here.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form. If you're new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.

Day 31: Hall🎃ween/Costumes
(Set in the same continuity as and after Day 16.)
IT HAD ALMOST felt like tempting fate, putting in an offer when the old farmhouse a quarter of a mile from the Men of Letters Bunker came up for sale. Walking through it, taking stock of what was there and what would need fixing or updating, was just a bit like stepping into someplace both new and achingly familiar. From the way Dean had looked around, his eyes tracing over parts of the building like he recognized it or expected to see something he wasn't consciously looking for, he felt it too. It had felt like a dream when their offer was accepted, and the whole time leading up to the official closing and paperwork signing part of Sam kept waiting for the dream to become a nightmare.
It never did.
The first time Castiel visited them after the sale closed and they were officially home owners, he had looked around the house with a curious head tilt and a spark of recognition. He had let Sam ramble a bit about the areas that needed repair, still, and patiently listened Dean gush about the various upgrades he wanted to make to the bathrooms and replacing the windowbox fans and standing heaters with central heating and cooling, and then simply asked, "How can I help?"
Turned out there was quite a bit that an angel could help with when it came to home renovations. Installing the central heating and cooling system without needing to rip up walls or floors, for one thing, and replacing the old boiler in the basement with a newer model that had a larger water tank and a stronger pump. Repairs to the outside of the house needed to be done the long way to avoid drawing too much attention, but Castiel gamely volunteered his time and efforts sealing up cracks in the windowframes around the box fans and the doors, and patching the hole in the roof with new wood and shingles before snapping away the water damage and black mold that had started growing in the attic.
With a firm home base and official physical address that wasn't a secret bunker no one was supposed to know existed, Jody was able to start shipping them boxes and boxes of stuff that Bobby had kept in storage or that had been rescued from the smouldering wreck that had been left of his house and salvage yard. Things like weapons had to be hauled personally, which Jody and the girls had used as an excuse to come down and check out Sam and Dean's new digs, but other things like books and old keepsakes could be shipped. Much of the time that Dean and Castiel spent repairing the house, Sam spent unboxing things and figuring out which of their new and old belongings they should keep in the Bunker and which could be moved to the house when it was livable. He had actually dithered a bit over whether or not to move the herb garden before Castiel had asked him why he couldn't just have two, one for the Bunker and one for the house.
Frankly, considering the acreage that had come with the house, having a decent sized garden felt almost sensible to Sam. Dean rolled his eyes, but surprisingly agreed so long as Sam was willing to put up with him getting a couple of chickens and a rooster for eggs. Building a chicken coop and fox-proofing it was another adventure, and had eventually resulted in Castiel and Sam putting their heads together and creating a new set of warding stones they could lay down around the coop's boundaries. Further tweaking and they did the same for the house itself, and then for good measure they had added warding to the walls inside the perimeter under fresh paint and stapled thin plastic tubing filled with salt beneath the mouldings on the doors and windows.
The thing about the house was that there were technically four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, but two of those bathrooms were attached to bedrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The one upstairs had a walk-in closet attached to it, which made the walk-in closet inside the bedroom itself almost redundant. That closet got turned into a small meditation and spellcasting room for Sam after Dean claimed the "suite" on the main floor closest to the kitchen, especially when Castiel had noted the wooden shelving as "more suited to books and spell ingredients which are part of your personal collection rather than communal as the ones in the Bunker are meant to be". And it wasn't as if it would be needed to be a closet, since the closet in the bathroom was more than big enough to hold what clothes he and Sam had between them.
It hadn't been until Sam was online ordering two new California King mattresses, box springs, frames and linens that he had realized how much of a forgone conclusion it seemed to be that Castiel was moving in with Sam.
"Of course he's moving in with you," Dean scoffed. "I ain't sharing a bed with him! So unless he's decided he wants to lay claim to one of the other two rooms upstairs, just don't make me see or hear anything I shouldn't or wake me up with a thumping headboard!"
"The headboard wouldn't wake him up anyway," Castiel had assured Sam when he had reported what Dean had said. "No more than his headboard hitting the wall would disturb us. I added sound dampening wards around all the bedrooms when we lay down the protective wards before painting."
Well, that didn't precisely answer the question that Sam didn't quite know how to ask, but if Dean was making jokes about the headboards and Castiel was adding soundproofing to the bedrooms, it probably didn't matter too much right just then. The other two bedrooms got set up as guest rooms for Jody, Claire and Alex, or whichever of their friends and fellow hunters stopped by needing space to crash for the night, and that was that.
The house was ready to move into fully just in time for the weather to turn and the new heating system to get its first workout as Autumn kicked into high gear. Their neighbors in Lebanon still didn't quite know what to make of "the Campbell brothers" and "that Novak fella" who very clearly all lived together in the fixed up former Bethswaite farmhouse, but they were mostly friendly and welcoming. It seemed like Sam and Dean were finally getting the chance to actually put down proper roots for the first time since Sam was six months old.
Of course, putting down roots and having a permanent address meant other things as well.
"TRICK OR TREAT!"
"You'd think this place would be too far out to get kids tromping around looking for free candy," Dean grumbled as Castiel once again answered the doorbell, the porch light bouncing off the silver tinsel halo he wore on a wire headband to go with the black feathered costume wings strapped around his shoulders.
"You're just mad because you thought those giant bags of candy we bought were gonna be all for you," Sam rolled his eyes, reaching up to adjust the large curving black horns that were barely held on by the elastic string. "Dunno why since tomorrow it's all going to be half price."
"And picked over for the good stuff!" Dean complained. "Why'd you even get dressed up, anyway? Thought you hated Halloween."
"Thought you didn't want to hear about it," Sam deadpanned, eyebrows jogging up pointedly. He wasn't about to admit that Castiel and Claire both had made puppy eyes at him until he caved and dressed to match Castiel's angel costume, so letting his brother infer something else entirely was the order of the day. From the face Dean made, he bought it.
"Well, now that that image is in my brain, I need another drink," he groaned, leveraging himself up off the couch and heading for the kitchen. "And I'm going to bed. Don't forget the rules, bitch!"
"If you haven't heard anything yet, you ain't gonna, jerk!" Sam called back, smirking as Dean flipped him off.
The couch dipping beside him wiped the smirk from his face to be replaced by a blush, and he cautiously glanced sideways at Castiel. The angel's expression was placidly amused, eyes on the door through which Dean had just retreated.
"He still doesn't know about the two bags of candy you have kept in reserve to surprise him with tomorrow?' Castiel murmured, low enough that Dean was unlikely to overhear him.
"He never goes in my workroom, even if he's still coming into our room whenever he pleases," Sam murmured back, eliciting a small hum from Castiel.
"At least he has finally learned to knock when we have the door closed," he offered, to which Sam could only nod. "Sam?"
"Yeah, Cas?"
Whatever Castiel was going to ask was interrupted by the rapid thump of tiny feet followed by the doorbell ringing again. The angel sighed and moved to get up when Sam put a hand on his knee to stop him.
"My turn, angel," he said and, steeling his nerves, brushed a kiss to Castiel's cheek as he stood up and headed for the door. He hoped that the flow of kids to their door would stop soon so that he and Castiel could continue their conversation up in their room.
He had a feeling that it had been a long time coming.

OK tumblr! you're being conscripted in a game of RL tetris. Retail and warehouse workers are especially encouraged.
Here is the current layout of my room. The furniture is completely to scale, although the heater/rack/mirror corner is a bit off as the room divider is a zigzagging one and not completely straight:
Tumblr media
As you can see, I have crammed a shitton of furniture in here, including a fold leaf table (the norden), a cabinet I've converted into a greenhouse, a clothes rack, a tallboy and so on. The thing between the laundry basket and the clothing rack is a room divider. Adds privacy when I have to leave the door open in summer and also having an extra barrier between me and my family just reduces stress just by being there.
I'm semi-preparing to move out. The loft bed is a fancy one with bookshelves, and I store a bunch of crap in it and under it, including a bigger laundry basket and a foldable book case.
But while I don't have move out plans yet, I'm semi-preparing to move in that I'm upgrading furniture that would be a real pain in the arse to move with (I don't even know how I'm going to move the greenhouse cabinet...), which means the loft bed has gotta go. I'm NOT gonna deal with disassembling and reassembling that monster.
I'm replacing it with a day bed. When I move I can use it as a sofabed until I get a real sofa and a real bed, and will use it as a guest bed afterwards.
But this means that I have to find storage for all the stuff I keep under it, which is where the kallax comes in.
My desk is also broken in such a way that once I disassemble it I probably won't be able to put it back together, so I'm going to get a new one so I can take that with me too.
I'm flying a little too close to the sun here, but I'm experimenting with seeing if I could possibly get a bigger desk. So I've come up with this layout:
Tumblr media
But as you can see there is no room for my plants that way.
What I'm PROBABLY going to have to go with is a smaller desk and the same layout I've got now, but I'm posting here in hopes that someone with superior tetris skills has a solution.
Also I forgot to modify the plan for this, but the door opens inwards, not outwards. Oops.

Excerpt from this Op-Ed from the New York Times:
To keep the lights on, many utility companies are proposing to build dozens of new power plants that burn natural gas. North Carolina-based Duke Energy alone wants to add 8.9 gigawatts of new gas-fired capacity — more than the entire country added in 2023. Using their own projections of soaring energy demands as justification, these companies are also pushing back on the climate targets set by their states and the Biden administration.
If state regulators sign off on these plans, they will be gambling with our country’s future. We need to electrify everything from cars to appliances to slow climate change, but we won’t be able to reach our climate goals if we power all of those machines with dirty energy.
There is a better way. But to get there, legislators will need to overhaul the incentives driving utilities to double down on natural gas, so that they can turn a profit without cooking the planet.
Companies like Duke, Dominion Energy and Georgia Power argue that they need more gas-fired plants to reliably provide power during times of peak demand — for instance, on a hot summer weekday afternoon when home cooling systems and data servers are all humming at maximum output, and the grid strains to keep up. But those peaks tend to materialize only for a few dozen hours per year, and there are ways to deal with them that don’t require a massive amount of new methane-burning infrastructure.
The real reason the utilities want to build these plants is quite simple: The more stuff they build, the more money they make. Regulators let utilities charge their customers enough money to cover what they spend on assets like combustion turbines and wires, plus a generous rate of return (up to 10 percent) for their investors. This longstanding arrangement incentivizes power providers to build expensive things whether society needs them or not, in lieu of lower-cost, cleaner options, and to invoke their duty to keep the lights on as a post hoc rationalization.
Fortunately, utilities have plenty of ways to meet this new need.
They include “virtual power plants” — when technologies such as home batteries, rooftop solar systems, smart water heaters and thermostats are linked together and managed via software to provide the same services as a conventional power plant. Utilities in Vermont, Colorado and Massachusetts are already using them, to quickly respond to rising demand at a much lower cost than operating natural gas combustion turbines. According to one estimate, virtual power plants could lower U.S. utilities’ costs by as much as $35 billion over the next decade.
Utilities could also accelerate efforts to replace outdated transmission lines with newer ones that can carry double the electric current and to bring more battery storage online. They can compensate customers for using less energy during times when demand is high and invest far more in energy efficiency, helping customers to adopt devices that use less electricity.
All of these solutions would save customers money and reduce carbon emissions. They could, according to a Department of Energy analysis, meet the entire projected growth in U.S. peak electricity demand over the next decade.

Tarn and Prowl being Sparkmates means neither set of Ride or Dies can just thrash the offending partner. The DJD has it worse than the Structies in that regard since Prowl is a gestalt member. Hurting the Constructicons means hurting Prowl which means hurting Tarn. Which Tarn does not apreciate.
There is definitely a rotating group of mechs that folow Prowl around to catch him if he glitches.
Prowl and Tarn once they hit the nesting phase really start driving everyone bananas especially Prowl. Everything is being made Sparkling safe. Everything. The Constructicons and the DJD have to do massive renovations and expansions to their base and ship. Tarn orders all tables bolted to the floor out of spite for having to hide his collections in a biolocked storage room. Apparently the First Editions "Weren't sparkling appropriate decor." The Constructicons are very sympathetic. They miss being able to encorperate corpses and even living mechs into the archertecture.
Dumb Thought:
Praxians are Seekerkin, right? Seekers trine. What if Pharma is the third and final fail-husband? It's finally been long enough that the connection to his Ex-Conjux has faded enough for his writing to appear. Or having both in the same place overcame the inertia of his broken connection to Ratchet.
He's flying out to check out what the ruckes is, or Tarn sent him a ping to deliver the T-cogs. He lands looks at the two cariers arguing with the each other over architectural features as Helix and Tess are atempting to mediate. Well Tess is atempting to mediate, Helix is being a snarky advocate for Unicron and space heater so the carrying mechs dont get too cold. The Constructicons are just going, we can make this happen to every seguestion.
Pharma, to shocked to self censor, screeches "Prowl what are you doing here?! What fresh hell is this Tarn?!" Then he feels two sets of writing apear on his arm one after the other. "Oh, my Pharma, I don't have to give you up after all!" Folowed by, "Pharma of Vos what exactly is your relationship with the DJD?!" Pharma falls to his knees and screams in dispair. The two mech he hates most in the universe are his sparkmates. Scavenger pats Pharma on the shoulder, "Don't worry, you get used to it."
Oh yes the Ride or Dies
Right yep yep! The Constructicons have (somewhat) of a literal connection to Tarn through Prowl
They will and it will drive Prowl up the wall
sdfg ohh. Why do I get the vibe these renovations and expansions are driving them nuts?
I had not even considered the idea of them also being petty towards each other with them, because of course they are. Tarn, something tells me that even if the tables/desks are bolted down Prowl's habit of flipping them will remain (and if it doesn't hey you've found a solution for less furniture repairs)
The DJD and Constructicons can bond over their Ride or Dies being menaces while carrying
Oh no
Oh no
Pharma
Oh no
You'd think that Nickel banned Tarn from having anymore T-cog replacements while carrying tbh
Pharma I am so sorry babygirl but welcome to the chaos
Tesarus and Helex are trying but Helex is a menace and busy being a menace. We've already designated Prowl and Tarn menaces.
Why did I imagine Pharma just carrying a bunch of t-cogs in a energon stained cardboard box? That's probably not what's going on but it is a hilarious image.
of course structies of course.
Oh Pharma, sweetheart, babygirl. Welcome to the failhusbands, both of your sparkmates got each other sparked up and you are stuck with them now. I get the vibe that Pharma and Prowl would have so many interesting interactions, ohh.
I Am Still Trying To Ascertain when in the timeline this is so that we know what version of Pharma we're getting and when all of this is going down
Scavenger that is not helping him

Cooperative Extension Service | Agriculture and Natural Resources | Family and Consumer Sciences | 4-H Youth Development | Community and Economic Development University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment Cooperative Extension ServiceASC-213 How to Make a Country Ham Gregg Rentfrow and Surendranath Suman, Animal and Food Sciences Introduction Country ham is the dry- cured hind leg of a pig that harks back to the way food was preserved before mechanical refrigeration. The country ham finds its roots in China and European dry-cured hams such as China’s Jinhua and Yunnan hams, Italy’s Prosciutto, Spain’s Serrano and Iberian hams, and Germany’s Black For- est ham. Country hams are drastically different from their more common cousin, the wet-cured ham, also known as “city ham.” The flavor of a country ham is complex, and the texture is unlike that of other hams. Historically, pigs were harvested during the cold winter months of December through early February. The hams were removed and allowed to cool overnight before salt, sugar, and other spices were rubbed into the ham to begin the process of making a country ham. Today those traditions have not died, but they have changed. The family tradition of butchering hogs has been replaced by buying hams from a local meat processor. And the environments of winter, spring, and summer have been recreated through mechani- cal refrigeration and heaters. Currently, more than 5 percent of hams are turned into country hams within the ham belt states of Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The majority of country hams are cured in family owned and operated facilities. Country hams can be found in grocery stores and spe- cialty shops throughout Southeast and on the internet. None- theless, there are some do-it-yourselfers who want to start their own family traditions. Country hams are not difficult to make. The process requires a few easy-to-find ingredients and a secure storage area. Country hams are made in three steps: curing, salt equalization, and aging. These steps are outlined in the manual.

so since were like halfway to getting it ill just share it now
next year well be getting a new mobile home and im so excited for multiple reasons
it has five bedrooms, so thats enough bedrooms for all of us plus a dedicated office
TWO living rooms!!! i legit thought that was only a rich brick and mortar house thing but im so excited to be able to just have more places to retreat to if someone else is in a space
actual closed off pantry with a door. the amount of times our cats have gotten into bags of chips and shit.... im excited for that
i get my own bathroom.... god bless.
brand new working HVAC with insulated walls, doors, and windows so we can actually have comfortable summers
i know this basic but the bedrooms havent had doors in ten years. not by our choice just kids breaking them and not having the money to replace it so we just got curtains but i am so fucking excited to have doors everywhere. i can completely close myself off. i can have a purely quiet space. god bless
new water heater that stays on all the time and that we dont have to manually flip the breaker for
new full sized fridge and new unbroken, not 30 year old stove
floor with no weak points where you sink like half an inch and fear falling through the damn house
walls and floors that havent degraded over 30 years and are actually easy to clean and paint and put wallpaper/tile on
brand new plumbing that wont freeze and burst over the winter
both plugs of every outlet working
theres a closed off closet in the hallway that we can put our seasonal things in instead of just keeping them out or putting them in the shed thats already too full
working lights and ceiling fans in every room, also easy to clean
so many cabinets and storage spaces, shit wont just be left out anymore
ive literally prayed for a better home since i was ten years old. 14 years of yearning and wishing and planning out ways i could earn enough money to afford it. now its just possible where we are now when it comes to money. we didnt even intend it to be possible. my mom just works for walmart and receives social security for my siblings since my dad died. ill be working soon hopefully so my money will also go towards down payment, furniture, etc., my bf is really smart with money and is helping with all of this too. the house were getting was on sale and i paid the min deposit to keep the price for the year itll take us to save up and get the land prepped. were actually buying a brand new home. a house that hasnt been lived in before us. itll start with us and i never had that ever. its surreal to live so badly for my entire life, especially more so since my dad died, to now be able to naturally obtain a normal life in a normal house that can actually accommodate all of us and give us comfort and not just bare minimum shelter. i only have to suffer one more year. god what a relief
