AITA for tagging posts as inaccessible?
honestly i don't even know how to phrase this. my blog has a very robust tagging system; i tag every character, fandom, etc etc, and try to catch as many triggers and such as possible. i want people to be able to curate their experience on my blog! and one thing I've noticed is that... a lot of people don't add image descriptions to their art, and with the rate i reblog things, my choices are either stop reblogging people's art, ask for an image description to be added and just hope i don't get completely ignored, or add one myself - which works for the most part, but writing up image descriptions for others' art is a pain, and i get fatigued easily, so I can't do that often. instead, i reblog these posts as usual but add two tags - "inaccessible" and "no id."
howerver, recently, a fandom blogger that i admire made a vaguepost. the general gist of what they said essentially falls under "stop harrassing people to add descriptions to posts - if you want to encourage behavior in a community, that's not the way to go about it."
never once have i heard of anyone harrassing people over image descriptions; the closest thing i can think of is people getting backlash for intentionally misusing alt text (in a malicious sense, such as the alt text claiming it is a nice photo of a meadow while the actual image is ableism against blind people. this is an actual example i have seen.), and even then that's clearly not what they were talking about. nobody else in the fandom has ever so much as mentioned image descriptions anywhere, either - literally the only thing i could see their post being about is my tags
I'm really not sure how what i do would count as harassment, though? I'm adding a label that's accurate - "your post is inaccessible." this isn't an opinion, such as "this post is bad." it's saying very frankly that the post isn't fully accessible. OP seemed very upset, however, and i think I've been softblocked???

Ok the whole thing w/ clogging up ao3 tags is stupid for multiple reasons, like how it fucks with screen readers for one, but the MAJOR issue is that having too many tags isn’t actually a problem w/ ao3
Like seriously guys? There is a lot to criticize. And I say this as someone who heavily relied on fandom spaces to get me through some really really hard times and still loves ao3. I can say I love what it does for fandom while also acknowledging there’s some seriously fucked up shit going on both behind the scenes and with ppl who use the site. It’s literally like saying “I love tumblr but I acknowledge there are literal nazis on here and as a Jew/human with a working brain I hate them and that they’ve been here so long”
Like. I get u think ur sticking it to the man or whatever. And idk I partially agree bc. There’s so much nasty shit and some technically illegal shit that I don’t want to even mention! But ur not even wasting the moderators time or anything ur just being obnoxious and then everyone starts discoursing on tumblr and I’m legitimately tired of it. I don’t wanna see ppl defending gross stuff and I’m tired of talking about the ppl who do defend gross stuff bc I don’t wanna remember that they exist bc I have shit to do irl and not enough space in my brain for them
So. Idk ima propose at least a temporary solution before I have to hear one more argument for or against censorship bc y’all seriously don’t understand how to have a nuanced conversation
How about instead of asking AO3 to take down gross fics (which may or may not be morally correct but will 100% reopen a very over done conversation) instead we ask for some specific plausible things
1) when you use ao3 explicit and unrated fics are automatically filtered out. They do this on ff.net. Yes it may be like 2 extra clicks for ppl who wanna read explicit stuff but ppl who don’t are going to do that anyway, and it protects the people who don’t know to do that and don’t want to read graphic tags. Most importantly it requires consent to browse explicit fics. Yeah you need to give consent to read explicit stuff, but you can look through the incredibly graphic tags/summaries without consenting to anything. It’s literally the default. Which is both upsetting to ppl who don’t wanna see that and also maybe a bit of a legal loophole they should close up
2) a “suggest tags” feature. This would be moderated by authors not ao3 staff. Basically ppl can like..... idk entire a series of tags and you can choose if you want to add them or not. The person submitting them has an option to be anonymous or not. Obviously the author doesn’t have to add every random tag and it might be annoying but it would help with making sure triggers got tagged. It would be helpful if it didn’t let you suggest tags that were already suggested/on the fic but I’m not too picky. Like I said the point of this is to make sure ppl can block stuff properly, and it honestly might also help authors with visibility bc like. Obviously you know the tags you use but you don’t know what tags other ppl look for. Again maybe it may be obnoxious with ppl having a lot of tags but people already have a lot of tags
3) a dispute rating button. Now before someone bitches at me that the ao3 moderators don’t have time to go through disputes- I know I already took that into consideration. Basically the idea is when you dispute the rating the site will ask you what rating you think it should be and anonymously log it. So if someone rated something M but you think it should be an E the site will log that and send a message to the author. The author has a choice if they actually want to listen to ppl and change the rating or not. They don’t actually have to listen to the ppl disputing the rating. Unless they get a certain amount of disputes. I was thinking maybe like 50 or so?* So if 50 ppl say “hey this really needs to have a different rating” then and only then would the moderators take a look at the fic. And the moderators would then figure out what the rating should be.
(*idk if 50 is the right #. I was thinking it should maybe work on like a percentage of your hits in the fic?)
3.5) have a sexual content marker. This is marked as 3.5 bc i feel like this idea if implemented would be misused. But yeah in theory you could just have a sexual content marker that could be clicked by the OP and then automatically filtered. Again you could use the system from #3 but again I feel like ppl would missuse it.
Anyway yeah. I wanted to give some viable solutions ppl on both sides might actually agree with. Like I get not wanting to make concessions with gross ppl, but it’s a lot faster so I’m ok with doing it for now while the rest of y’all continue to debate or w/e
Final note- please for the love of g-d learn how ratings work. Ask someone else’s opinion if you have too. I have seen so many explicit fics marked as mature or teen it’s a legitimate problem. I’ll give a quick rundown of what each rating means but pls guys
General- g- basically go by what you’d see in a Disney cartoon
Teen- pg/pg 13 - there are swears there’s violence, sex may be mentioned, you might call someone sexy or smthn idc, but no one is shown having sex or or discussing/thinking about it in detail
Mature- R - injuries/gore may be described with more detail. Uhh there could be some heavy making out and the characters might talk about sex or feeling sexually attracted to someone. But actual sex is not shown!! If you have to mention or refer to someone’s genetalia in any sexual way you should probably move it up to an E. Even if ur characters are fully clothed the entire time. Also If you’re talking about kinks outside of a quick joke or reference you should probably move it up to an E.
Explicit- NC 17- sexually explicit content. (You can put non-sexual violent stuff under here but most ppl leave it under mature)
TLDR/oversimplification(for the ratings) -
General: nothing sexual
Teen: implied sex
Mature: refrenced sex
Explicit: shown sex
General tldr:
Some criticisms of Ao3 are valid and needed, and some are just stupid and infuriating (specifically talking about the tag thing stop it’s annoying and ableist). There is constant arguments and drama surrounding those criticisms, and I decided to offer some solutions that actually have a chance at getting implemented, even if I would prefer a different option.

Think about it, a restaurant serving food with eat-in only…all photos would be in one location If your photos are products that are only ever seen in your business location then it makes sense to locate them there. To help you answer the above, my advice would be to follow the natural path if you want to have long term SEO benefits. Should you put the exact same Geolocation on images for this business? Just give a yes or no answer to the following question.
Image geotag software#

To authenticate your business with geotagging through your blog, social media accounts like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YELL Any indexes and citations you’re found on.įor an understanding of how your other accounts affect Local Search Ranking don’t forget to watch this video: However Google My Business has based some of its ranking credit on what other details other citations are given. you are twisting op's words and extrapolating though. and this is not hate, this is constructive criticism. you are the one putting words in their mouth, in no way did they ever say stop making private gif packs, what their argument boiled down to was please stop misusing the tags and promote your work in other ways. to me you sound just like an anti who feels entitled to post their hot takes on a character or a ship not because they don't understand tagging system but to abuse it
alright, let me take this part by part since the essay you sent is already off to a less than stellar start. i didn't twist a word she said, i haven't said she said to stop making them (though she did reblog a post saying its unethical and that she had her own negative thoughts, but i digress lets give her the benefit of the flimsy doubt, lets keep going). i've said now, countless times, if y'all wanna learn how to read since she was kind enough to imply i lack comprehension: it's not misusing the tag. it's content about the fc, it's a pack that exists of the fc, just because it's not accessible to you, don't make those things any less true. she said not to make public posts at all and if you REALLY have to, make a post just saying your commissions are open, how many fucking times would you like me to explain that is to the detriment of the creators?
comparing to an anti wanting to whine about tony stark or whatever the fuck, when i've said now at least 10 times, that these people are often reliant on the money, they get commissions typically as a result of posting in the tag, people find them in the gif pack tags, i have personally commissioned people from finding them in the tags, the tags don't just exist for you fucko. people who do commission, use the same tags you do. someone not posting, until a decent alternative exists for people to stumble into gif creators easily which fuck knows with tumblrs tagging system and how much it hates rpers may never happen, could be the reason they don't get their meds this month, or pay their phone bill, etc.

Okay, Wifestre, I’ll try to handle this more tactfully than OP did, because your tag contains a valid question which deserves an answer:
Yes, we have considered it, that is why we oppose it
Capital Punishment is irreversible. It does not allow for misplaced evidence, or jury miscommunications, or clerical errors, or any of the other myriad mistakes that a justice system operated by humans will inevitably produce.
People, not to put too fine a point on it, fµ©k up. We fµ©k up a LOT, and execution offers no means by which to correct said fµ©k ups.
The “hassle” as you put it, is a safeguard against human fallibility, and it is a necessary safeguard. Even the most meticulously-engineered systems have emergency stop buttons, backup circuit breakers, dead-man switches, failsafes, and redundancies.
Quite apart from the potential for misuse, and the corrupting influence that power over death itself might have on public officials, this “hassle” is preferable to the alternative of someone misfiling a police report, discovering it years later, and having to live with the weight of a human’s life having ended on his/her soul.
Tying opposition against sex offender registries closely to carceral abolition is imo a bad move
Yes, the American prison system in particular is horrific, individual and collective evasion of or attacks on it are commonly (even for genuine wrongdoers) rational to the point of obligatory, and an acceptable future course would have to replace it with something so different as to be barely recognisable. But Rome was not built in a day, it is necessary to distinguish short -term and ultimate goals, and reasonable abolitionists acknowledge that there is social and legal infrastructure that would need to be put in place to make an immediate cessation of all legal imprisonment not completely insane. Sensible forms of prison abolition take the shape of either extensive reforms or extralegal militancy, not immediate legal dissolution in toto
Registries, conversely, are low-hanging fruit: they can and should be ended immediately, totally, and without further planning; they are a simple and unqualified evil. Empirical studies typically indicate no meaningful efficacy at protecting the (unregistered) population against offences, and there are innumerable pilot programmes of full abolition in the form of virtually every other country in the entire world
Confusion here is compounded by thinking of registries as straightforwardly an extension of the criminal justice system. Legally, they are not, and were they recognised as a punitive measure by the state they would be liable to be immediately ruled unconstitutional. Ofc they are punitive and therefore are unconstitutional, but not according to legal fiction: registries are a legislatively imposed burden on convicts, not a judicially imposed sentence, and therefore fall afoul of the fundamental rights to due process and against bills of attainder (punitive measures directly enacted by legislative bodies and unmediated by the courts). For all its innumerable and radical shortcomings, the American criminal justice system has some built in safeguards against unreasonable impositions on the accused by the state, guardrails offender registries are designed specifically to bypass; they are a form of extrajudicial and unaccountable terror in much the same vein as death squads, and should be evaluated accordingly
In short: the prison system is a deeply entrenched organ of the state that makes itself necessary by overtaking roles that could be filled by humane alternatives, whose excision or radical reduction constitutes a long-term and complex project for reformers and militants alike; offender registries are a fully illegitimate and detachable cancerous growth that can be terminated immediately without relevant negative consequence and should be (individually and collectively) resisted without exception or hesitation. Hitching the one cause to the other needlessly entangles simple present necessities with complicated future ambitions

The third one specifically is a bastardized version of a piece by Female Pentimento:
Tumblr media
I don't particularly like the fact Female Pentimento uses AI, but they took the photo, so if they want to edit it with AI and stock photos, fine. Whatever.
But don't bastardize someone's work with additional AI and then try to tag it under "photography" like it's natural, OP.
No beef for the person I reblogged this from, but definitely got beef with assholes faking this shit.
