Three Running Qs: 1) I think youve mentioned you have restrictive eating habits, do you have harm reduction tips on running with these? If it's not too personal, does running make it harder to manage food anxiety? 2) As a fellow stimulant user, is running after taking Adderall harder on my heart? 3) Do you have tips for building stamina? I started running 4 times a week about a year ago but my stamina has barely budged. Could this be the eating disorder or should I try something different?
yeah i mean... i hate to be the bearer of bad news but basically any degree of restriction is going to fuck with running performance for the same reason it comes with a whole host of medical risks. you can definitely mess with your training but if i (not a coach) were to guess i would definitely assume it's the semi-starvation that's holding you back. you're pretty much inherently fighting against yourself whenever you try to push your body while also under-fuelling it. in terms of harm reduction there are some nutritional concerns you may need to attend to (electrolytes and hydration, iron, b vitamins esp) and you want to be extremely vigilant about injuries, and also your bone density. but there is just a certain degree of risk whenever you take on strenuous high-impact activities in combination with under-fuelling. & as far as food anxiety goes i mean that's sort of the ticket innit lol. yeah running is part of the toolkit by which i manage that but i always have to be careful that im Doing Behaviours to a degree that makes my life overall better. so it kind of all depends on your priorities. if what you want is to Achieve Full Recovery then you probably need to think long and honestly about running and its role in your life.
as far as the adderall goes, yes, both stimulants and strenuous exercise place additional strain on the heart. so does chronic energy deficit and weight loss in itself btw. with adderall, experientially i believe the cardiac strain is dose-dependent but i don't have like a risk table handy. to my knowledge it is pretty much universal medical advice not to engage in strenuous activities on stimulants for like a multitude of reasons including the cardiac risks.

First I want to clear up some misconceptions of what ANR is.
Adult nursing (ANR), Adult breastfeeding (ABR or ABF) are all umbrella terms. The simplest way to understand ANR is, any time the breasts are orally stimulated by another adult. The couple is engaged in some form of ANR. Whether or not she is lactating.
The number one reason most people are into ANR is for intimacy. They also find it as excellent way to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. Some women get into ANR as a way to reduce breast cancer risks. yes! There is research that proves this. You can find it by searching for "benefits of breastfeeding" and "benefits of stimulating the breasts".
Though in theory, a woman doesn't have to be lactating to have some of the advantage of this. But a lactating woman will have by far the greatest risk reduction and benefits.
Some get into ANR as a way to help reduce and manage weight. Most breastfeeding women do loose weight. The idea is that a lactation woman burns between 300 to 700 calories per day. Though I personally think it's more of the placebo and lifestyle change that helps them.
Some are into it as a sexual alternative like those with ED or other sexual issues. Even as a form of abstinence.
When a new mother is having trouble bringing in the milk. Some doctors and lactation consultants will suggest that the father finish orally draining the breasts after the baby is done. Same goes for relieving clogged ducts.
Those of us in ANR find that ANR also preps the breasts for a new baby. Making breastfeeding a lot easier. This is because the breasts are use to being orally stimulated. The milk comes in easier and is less painful. Though there is some caution on this as well. Because too much stimulation can cause premature labor.
There are a lot of emotional benefits as well. Such as, some use it as a way to cope with stress, depression and anxiety.
People get into ANR for a lot of other reasons and a lot of other benefits.

But some of those people use ANR as a part of there fetish.

Hello, I adopted a senior malamute last October, and this is the first summer I’ve had her, and she’s the first arctic breed dog I’ve had. We had no issues walking a couple miles in the winter (we live in Ohio), but now that it’s summer, she seems to struggle in the heat, so I’ve kept the walks shorter. I’d like her to stay in better shape, especially because her hips aren’t the best, but other than walking at ridiculous hours of the day (summers here are warmer now than when I was a kid), I’d like to find a way to get her more exercise without her having to deal with the heat so much. Also, my house doesn’t have a lot of floor space, and she doesn’t really play with toys. Also, also, I’ve found that she’s pretty easy to train, though she gets bored with too much repetition. I was hoping you’d have some ideas or suggestions for us. Thanks!
Ohio isn't that much different than Vermont (having lived in both states). Both have humid summers and cold winters. The not wanting to play with toys and getting bored after repetitions is pretty normal malamute behavior (hello SIGURD). If you do any training sessions indoors (especially when trying to combat heat/need for stimulation) keep things short and fun!
I consider my dogs summer to be their "vacation" from longer, harder working and walking, but they do get exercise most days. While most dogs get their fittest in summer months as their people are able to do things longer, with arctic breeds it's going to be the opposite. Keep walks short and yes, my recommendation would be to walk at those ridiculous times of the day if your dog is really struggling to adjust (early morning is going to be cooler than late evening as it's had all night to cool vs heating up during the day). You can also look for alternative locations to take your pup that might not be as hot, easy to access swimming areas, shaded trails, etc. Honestly, anything to get away from pavement and lack of trees because you would not imagine the difference in heat dirt + trees makes vs asphalt + no trees (usually a 10 degree difference here in VT on the same day). But you should also keep in mind your dog's hips and don't go anywhere she might overstrain herself. Even if you go on a short walk, bring water for your pup. Mine are happy for a drink even less than half a mile out on a hot day (on a dirt road and shaded area even).
Other things to consider:
-has she lost her winter coat? in my experience this makes a MASSIVE difference to an arctic dog's ability to acclimate to summer. Some dogs do not drop their coat on their own like it should (often time spayed females and dogs with the long coat gene), and may need extra help achieving this through grooming.
-because my dogs have less activity in the summer months i reduce their caloric intake, this also keeps them cooler as they aren't burning through calories, but please talk to your vet before doing any caloric reductions, especially with an older dog. My reductions are only ever enough to maintain body weight with reduced activity and/or drop any unwanted weight that accumulates post sled/winter season.
Also if it is super hot it is 100% okay to give your dog a day off from activity besides potty breaks. Mine are useless rugs when it gets above certain temperatures and would be very uncomfortable if forced to participate in activity. If she needs stimulation on hot days i'd reserve lots of brain games and indoor training specifically for these days.

Hopefully this isn't too personal- do you have any advice for someone who is opposed to psych wards or conventional treatment but really needs help with anorexia and adderall use? I don't want to "recover" and I'm scared they will permanently revoke my prescription but my weight and medical issues and dependence on adderall to function have gotten pretty awful to live with. I've tried to reign it in by myself but if I decrease the adderall even a little, I get really depressed and immediately start binging and purging. How do I get medical help without getting trapped in treatment I don't want or losing legal access to a medication I take several times a day?
ok you probably understand this but the b/ping and restricting are part of the same underlying cycle of food behaviours. the adderall can help hold off b/p because it's an appetite suppressant, but for the same reason, it's very very common to experience a period of higher hunger when quitting or reducing any stimulant use. i don't believe that eating disorders or drug use are binary propositions, which is to say i think it is possible to reduce these behaviours and find ways to live with them even if you're not prepared to give them up entirely. however you do most likely need to confront the fact that your current level of restriction is dependent on your current amount of adderall usage, and in order to make whatever changes you want in your life, you are probably going to have to budge to some extent on one or both of these factors.
generally my advice here would be to decide in advance exactly what you want from a medical encounter (alterations to your stimulant script? eating disorder harm reduction? just someone to talk through it?) and then let that goal guide the exact type of treatment / professional you seek. you are correct to be concerned about losing the adderall script; stimulants are generally contraindicated for anorexics (though some doctors ignore this or dgaf) precisely because of the appetite suppression, so you should tread extremely carefully if this is something you want to talk openly about in a medical setting. whether you could be forced into eating disorder treatment obviously depends on other factors, namely your age and the laws where you live, so you should look into that before discussing details with anyone who has professional power over you.
