Aruani bathing/showering together in a nonsexual way

Oohhhhhhh anon!! I love love LOVE this!

There's something very intimate about the act of bathing together. See, bathing is a process of cleaning oneself, and it involves touching places to get rid of trapped sweat and dirt in a, let's say, "unbothered" way. We're not typically concerned with looking pretty or sexy while scrubbing the backs of our knees or our armpits clean. We cry. We lie limp. We sing. We dance. We make funny faces in the mirror with soap suds on the tops of our heads. We dream up elaborate stories where we're the MC. Bathing is a very personal thing imo, a moment when we can just be ourselves in the rawest, most naked, most "unsightly" form of existence.

And so it is for Aruani as well. Letting each other into this very vulnerable act or unwinding is special and beautiful.

Maybe Armin's feeling broken from stress and anxiety. Maybe he's sick. Maybe he's missing his parents. Maybe he feels lonely or weak or scared. When he shares a bath with Annie, whether it's his idea or hers, it's an act he's letting her witness and be a part of. He's allowing her to watch how he scrubs his back, how he relaxes in the water, how the tips of his fingertips wrinkle after too long. He's naked, more naked than just naked, he's dirty, and he washes it away, before her.

And maybe Annie's confused and scared. Maybe she's overwhelmed with all the feelings she's never known to deal with before. Maybe she's fraught with worries she doesn't know how to speak aloud. Maybe she's terrorized with the stress from nightmares of herself in the crystal or her childhood. Maybe she just lonely and unloved and untouched, pining for more affection than usual. When she allows Armin into sharing her bath, she's letting down her walls and revealing her barest self with all it's ten thousand little weaknesses. She's letting him see soft skin, coloured different beneath the water. Her hair is plastered to her forehead in an unflattering manner, there's sweat under her breasts, and dust on her collarbones, but she lets him watch as she cleans herself and even allows him to do it for her.

It's soap and murky water and tears and laughter between their fingers, interlaced or simply resting at a distance.

And then. There is washing someone when they can't do it themselves.

Maybe Armin's just woken up after 5 days from a fever induced sleep. When Annie takes him into the bath, helps him undress, and pours water over his bare shoulders and legs, it's an act of service and love.

Maybe Annie's hurt, wounded and injured, and isn't able to take a shower by herself. When Armin sits her in the bath, pinning her hair up as best as he can, touching her injuries as gently as possible, it's an act of service and love.

There's so much more to having a bath together than the obvious nakedness of it.

MARAUDER LOCKDOWN

... Tbh he is more of a "vagrant" but that sounds too low for his reputation IMEAN--

I'm both excited and nervous to show at last a proper reference for my own interpretation of this character 💚 I think it's not a surprise anyway for the ones that know me and my love for him ksdjhfjdsfh

I wanted to do it too so I can work comfortably on my HCs that edge in very OOC territory from the canon (and even some fanon)... and because I admit I have been enjoying sharing short stories and RPs with people again ✨ and activity I missed a lot!

And of course, this interpretation got its own whole backstory that differs from the canon and follows my HCs and concepts around his species, but I'll talk about that in another post (or if someone is curious enough to ask for it coff).

For now! Have more initial sketches from when I was developing him (this is since... 2022 gosh).

First: a time ago I used him for an old (discontinued) post-apocalyptic AU with designs inspired by hunting-scavenging clothing. A friend said he looked like Robin Hood x'D

... I almost didn't change the way I sketch digitally. Anyways. To not let this rot, you can notice I used many design cues from this one!

Then during half of the past year, I did studies of his ROTF toy because I liked how that one kept the weird silhouette of the TFA but aligned to the IDW design too!

And from there I chipped away traits and straightened others until it felt right to me.

BONUS one of the first and fastest sketches I did for him during a conversation with @goobygnarp x'D Thanks to this I not only got the courage to finish the reference but to understand WHAT design cues I wanted to keep and didn't give me too of a headache.

Do you ever think about how one of the most emphasized elements of Zexion's character is that he does NOT like doing things himself? Multiple journal entries and multiple moments in Chain of Memories to let us know that he can and will make someone else do things he doesn't want to deal with. And then he goes to try to take out Riku by himself.

It could have been pride, and I bet a little of it was that. Zexion is displayed with a lot of it- Riku not dying when Zexion expected sent him into an entire breakdown. He might have thought there was no way he could have failed.

But Zexion also shows that he knows when to retreat and, crucially, here's where the first point comes in- he does not like proving himself. That's Vexen (and Zexion knows it and manipulates it to get Vexen to do certain things for him).

The Chain of Memories journal entry says Zexion was forced into action thanks to the demise of Vexen and Lexaeus, but... no he wasn't. Riku didn't know he existed and everyone else was off the radar, he wasn't in active danger. It would have been so easy and the smart decision to retreat and regroup, and I think Zexion has a certain balance of obedience and self-assuredness that would have allowed him to go back to the Castle expecting Xemnas to understand why he retreated. The operation is in shambles. It's only Zexion and Axel left, Sora's disappeared, Naminé's run off, and Riku and Repliku are still fucking around upstairs. He could try to salvage what he could and take out Riku, or he could leave Oblivion in tatters like Axel was clearly going to and make someone else deal with it (tbh because of how things played out I actually think Riku would have been worse off without Zexion doing what he did. that dire moment is when Riku had his breakthrough moment). I think the latter option would have been more in character-

IF NOT FOR THE FACT THAT AS FAR AS ZEXION WAS AWARE, RIKU WAS THE ONE WHO KILLED LEXAEUS

We don't even know how Zexion "felt" about Lexaeus's death since Axel came in like immediately and Zexion refuses to let his peers know he has facial expressions and honestly an analysis of Zexion and Lexaeus's relationship would be too long but Lexaeus cares about him and in some strange way, Zexion cares back. And Lexaeus lost. And Riku was the one who did it. And... was the level of psychological torment Zexion put Riku through really necessary for killing him?

The most fucked up thing about this interpretation is that it means Zexion's final decisions were guided not just by emotion, but by emotion felt for someone else. and it killed him
