Cherik resurrection 2025
1. Left out in the cold
This was not how Charles had thought the night would go. He was supposed to be forgetting the stress from his thesis and the legal battle with his step father by drinking, flirting, making out and finding a comfortable bed of someone else’s to crash on. And he had been doing pretty good on that plan until ten minutes ago! But now, he was stuck outside of some fraternity building after 1 am on Halloween night.
As the cold started slowly to seep into his skin and bones, Charles found himself wishing that he had dressed as a sexy librarian like he had originally planned. At least he would be wearing more clothes than he currently was as a cupid. He cursed Raven in his head as he sat on the building stairs, trying to gather enough energy for the long walk home.
At least he would get warmer as he started moving, he thought to himself, trying to pull the hem of the white toga lower, but not succeeding. He cursed Raven some more and then himself for letting her talk him into shortening the damn thing from the original length. It hadn’t been that long to begin with, but right now he would be grateful for every inch of extra cloth.
“Are you alright?” Charles didn’t know if it was because of his frustration or his slightly drunken state that he hadn’t noticed the stranger approaching. Felt his mind nor heard his steps. He turned to look up at the man with wide eyes and had to stop to take him in. He was tall and dressed in gothic clothing, with white shirt, deep maroon vest, dark trousers and a frilly white cravat. Instead of a jacket, he had a long maroon and black cape. Despite how covered the man was, the clothes left little for imagination, hugging and complementing his frame in the most delicious way. The man’s skin looked pale in the light of the street lamps and the sharpness of his cheekbones had been highlighted with some makeup. Maybe the unnatural paleness too, was a result of cosmetics.
His sharp eyes were staring intensely at Charles, his frown turning to a questioning rise of an eyebrow and suddenly Chalres realised that he had been staring for way too long.
“Ummm, yes, or no, I mean-” Charles forced himself to stop and think. Was he really going to bother this stranger with his unfortunate situation, even when there was not really anything he could even do about it?
The stranger tilted his head to the side and a small smile was tugging his thin lips. Well, Charles thought, there was no harm with unburdening his heart a little.
“Well, in truth, I have been locked out.” Charles explained and nodded behind him towards the house. The stranger glanced at the door and then back to Charles.
“You live here?” He asked and Charles hurried to shake his head.
“No, I was here to party. I was thrown out.” He said and when the vampire gave him a suspicious look, he felt the need to defend himself. “Which was not my fault, just so you know.”
The man seemed amused by his answer.
“Oh, is that so?” He probed lightly, with some doubt in his voice.
“Well, maybe slightly my fault.” Looking back, maybe his sultry behaviour in the party and slight drunken state might have compromised his judgement somewhat. But even then it had been a 10/90 situation. 20/80 at most! “But in my defence I didn’t know she had a boyfriend and she approached me. I learned that only after I had to dodge a drunken punch to the face.” It felt like he was making a court case for himself, but the stranger seemed to find amusement from his suffering.
“A trouble maker, I see” The vampire nodded with a small grin, before his look turned more curious. “Why are you still sitting here? You don’t seem so drunk that you can’t walk.”
“I’m just gathering mental energy to start the long walk home.” He had just stopped banging the door few minutes ago and the sudden shift in the night’s plans had caused him the need to take a moment to gather himself.
“How long?” The stranger queried and Charles shrugged.
“Thirty to forty minutes.” He sighed. He wasn’t looking forward to it, but had made peace with it as the conversation had gone on.
The vampire looked alarmed by Charles’ answer, consern colouring his voice.
“That long? While wearing that?” Charles noticed how the vampire’s eyes lingered on his exposed skin and without thinking about it too much, he stretched his legs a bit and leaned back on the steps.
“Something wrong with my costume?” He asked, feigning ignorance and smirking inwardly as he saw the other man swallowing thickly, some colour appearing on his cheeks, but barely noticeable. So it was makeup, Charles thought to himself.
The man managed to pull himself together in quite admiring time, however. Though his eyes still crept to glance at Charles’ body every now and then.
“That is a long way to walk in this weather and it’s only going to get even colder. Almost freezing.” He cautioned Charles,
“Really?” That dampened Charles’ mood somewhat. He supposed the alcohol in his body had been keeping him little warmer this far, but if the night was about to turn even colder, his journey home would be very unpleasant indeed. “Well, I’ll keep warm by moving.” He sighed, finally standing up and stepping down from the stairs. No reason to keep avoiding the inevitable.
The stranger watched him with intense eyes, and if someone had told Charles that he truly was a vampire, he might have believed them.
“You don’t have anyone you could call to pick you up? There is a phone booth just around the corner.” The man nodded towards the direction where the phone most likely was, but Charles shook his head.
“No. Everyone I know is having fun at other parties, who knows where.” Even Hank had for once in his lifetime agreed to join Alex, Sean and Armando for a long night of festivities. Wasn’t that just Charles’ luck…
“Then how did you get here?” The vampire wondered.
“I had a ride.” Charles explained, and continued before the other man was able to actually voice the new question in his head. “And I planned on getting one back in the morning.” That had never been a problem before, Charles thought sourly.
But there was no point crying over the spilled milk.
“I better get going.” Charles decided, nodding to himself and turning to look at the stranger, who was looking unsure now. “Thank you for your concern. I will be fine though.” He thanked him and walked past him, beginning his long and chilly journey home.
“If you need a place to crash,” The man’s voice made Charles stop and turn around in shock. “I have an extra mattress and live less than 10 minutes from here.” The offer sounded sincere, but Charles still couldn’t believe what he had heard.
The vampire seemed to sense his hesitation, because he hurried to reassure him.
“No strings attached.” He said, holding his hands up. “I just don’t want to hear in the news tomorrow about how someone found a cupid frozen to death.” Under the unserious tone, there was actual concern of Charles’ well being. But just to make sure Charles wasn’t going to be killed tonight…
Charles moved two of his fingers to his temple for focus and as carefully as he could in his slightly drunken state, used his power to look into the vampire’s mind and his intentions. Reading thoughts under influence wasn’t dangerous, unlike trying to control someone, which was the reason Charles hadn’t tried to make someone let him in before.
He was almost thrown out by the mental shields that rose up to meet his probing, like metallic security doors. There was a moment of alarmed surprise in the vampire’s face, but then realization. The barriers lowered themselves and the stranger gestured at his head.
“Oh, right. Feel free to check.” The vampire said and Charles was a bit surprised by the ready acceptance of his mutation. But with the permission, he scanned the stranger’s, Erik Lehnsherr, intentions and found no ill will there, only concern, protectiveness and intrigue.
Happy to know that he didn’t have to walk all the way home and that he could spend the rest of the night with this curious man, Charles lowered his hand and smiled at Erik.
“Sorry about that, I promise I didn’t dig too deep.” Charles assured, but Erik shook his head.
“Not at all. It’s good to know that you seem to possess some self-preservation instincts.” The cheeky answer made Charles’ jaw drop slightly. The nerve!
“You got an impression I didn’t?” He questioned, slightly offended, but mostly amused.
Erik shrugged, not looking apologetic in the slightest.
“Considering that you were stuck outside in that outfit because you were making out with someone else’s girlfriend. It crossed my mind.”
“I told you, I didn’t know!” Charles insisted, although some colour started to heat his cheeks. “And you are one to talk about outfits! You are the one wearing a bloody cape!” He accused, pointing at the said garment.
His attack against Erik’s fashion sense seemed to take the other man aback.
“What is wrong with capes?” He sounded almost offended, frowning as he took hold of the cape and lifted it up a bit with his right hand.
“What isn’t wrong with them? They make you look like a comic book supervillain for starters.” Charles pointed out and his arms crossed, but his tone was more joking again. And the same mirth was mirrored in Erik’s expression too.
“I rather enjoy having a cape. They give an outfit a slash of…” He paused and threw the cape, making it flare behind him. “drama.” Erik finished and Charles had to roll his eyes as he tried to hold in laughter.
“Here I thought you were all broody and mysterious, but I’m starting to realize you are actually just a dork.” He teased and was delighted when the man let out a full chested laugh.
“Additionally…” Erik said as he got his breath back and brought his hand on top of the buckle that kept the cape on his shoulders. It came undone like it was magic, or by mutation, and with one smooth movement the other mutant wrapped it around Charles, surrounding him in sudden warmth that almost made him melt. “capes keep you warmer.” The last part was murmured so close to Charles’ ear that he could feel the warm breath tingling it.
He would have been lying, if he said that his legs didn’t go little weak from it.
But, too soon Erik stepped back and gestured at the road.
“Shall we?” He asked and with a nod from Charles, they started to walk towards Erik’s apartment. The cape was slightly uncomfortable, considering that Charles already had wings and quiver on his back, but it was a small price to pay for the warmness.
“So, should I call you Dracula or..?” Charles asked after a moment of silence.
“Don’t try to tell me you didn’t find my name in my mind when you were digging around there.” Erik glanced at Charles with a smile and a raised eyebrow, causing Charles to cough from getting called out like that. Though Erik’s non-judgemental attitude towards his telepathy was quite refreshing.
“Sure, but it is more polite to ask about it aloud.” He said and offered his own hand. “I’m Charles Xavier, I study genetics and I have to say that you have a very groovy mutation yourself, my friend.” He started, leveling the playing field. Erik took Charles’ hand and gave it a firm but small shake.
“Erik Lehnsherr, engineering. And my mutation is magnetism.” He explained and immediately Charles’ mind was filled with dozens of questions he wanted to ask the other. But for now, he let Erik’s hand go and smiled even more broadly at the other.
“Well Erik, I feel like this is the start of something amazing, my friend.”

Dick bored in class thinks loudly: Are there any mind riders here?
Danny thinks back: Yeah, hi.
Dick: *Falling out of his desk with a shriek*
Teacher: Mr. Grayson! If you are going to disrupt this class one more time, I'll have you thrown out!
Dick: Sorry, sorry. *sits in desk mentally shouting* Who are you!? What information have you stolen from my mind!?
Danny: Whoa, calm down there, Robin. You were the one who asked. I thought you already knew about me.
Dick: How could I possibly know about you!?
Danny: You literally lit candles for me yesterday. You said this lovely prayer, too, though I couldn't understand it
Dick: I lit candles for the dead homeless kid i found- oh. You're a ghost.
Danny: In a way.
Dick: Did the light not guide you home? Should I light more candles?
Danny: If you like. What's that about anyway? The candles?
Dick: It's a Romani tradition. Ussually, the candle is light on your death and kept on until the funeral, but I found you too late, so I just made a circle.
Danny: That's so sweet. Thank you for including me in your people's way.
Dick: Of course. Are you haunting me now?
Danny: *Literally sitting behind him in class* One could say that yes.
Dick: Cool. What's your name?
Danny: Call me Phantom.

so my younger cousin is flying in to visit from brazil on sunday, and will be staying here for like, the entirety of july. which, don't get me wrong, is super cool! i love the kid! but it felt like a super weird move, considering his parents are the SUPER strict and borderline helicopter parents. even the smallest prank/roughousing with him/his little sister would lead to a strict talking to from his parents, he couldn't ever do anything without their clear permission, that sort of stuff. so letting him fly at alone at 16 to a whole different country and stay there for a whole month seemed WILDLY out of character. additionally, it just felt like a super last-minute trip. it's not like we have any plans to do when he gets here, and the flight itself and stuff only got booked like, midway through june.
and i was talking to my mom about it, kind of trying to nudge some answers out of her, and after a while she went, "yeah, i think they're sending him over here to get away for his boyfriend. see if the distance breaks them off." which, first of all, surprised me because last i checked, they didn't KNOW he had a boyfriend. literally everyone in the family did EXCEPT for them because while that entire side of the family being semi-conservative, his parents (mostly his dad) are EXTREMELY old-fashioned. so clearly something already went wrong. and considering the only reason the rest of the family knew is because one person found out and it spread like wildfire, i have a sneaking suspicion he wasn't the one to tell them, either.
and second of all. they're sending him HERE. to try to make him forget his homosexuality. i couldn't do anything but just wordlessly gesture to the multiple pride flags scattered around my room, then to myself, because really? he has like two other cousins in the us and they're sending him to me? honey i am about to introduce this kid to queer scenes you have never even heard of. he'll be returning home with labels only shrimp can perceive
#icarus speaks#i fully believe she's correct btw#they are. not the brightest people. and honestly probably believe this is something that could work#cause i can see the logic of get him away and hopefully he'll realize it's a phase. which is Likely what they think#but oh honey you have a big storm coming#side note this is the SECOND time someone's been outed without permission on that side of the family #bitches learned of my transgenderism SO quickly#also even if that's NOT why they sent him here. i will still be rocking his world#they have given me Infinite Power and i will use it to make this kid's life as queer as physically possible

i'm dying over that reveal. truly. truly. because on paper, the concept that ruby's mother was just an ordinary person and what made her so special was this belief everyone had feeding into her own mythology, creating something larger than life, is actually pretty cool. and, yeah, from wild blue yonder we know the doctor absolutely handed the power of suggestion over to an unknown entity that made it something tangible.. so it works.
sort of
but like. that 15 year old girl decided to drop her baby off at a church in the middle of the night in the most ostentatious, medieval looking cloak and then proceed to point mencingly at the road sign on the off chance the security camera would pick her up and that would somehow give someone the idea to name her daughter after said road sign??
i'm just saying... if that's the way you handle giving your baby up for adoption then there is absolutely nothing ordinary about you
#doctor who#dw spoilers#ruby sunday#louise miller#empire of death#i'm a bit ehhhh at that whole ending tbh#i thought we'd be getting a bit more mythology#i mean even sutekh wasn't proper mythology he was an osiron not a GOD god y'know#like he got more powerful from the TARDIS but he wasn't a myth come to life#not EXACTLY#more like a theatre kid given the power of death#it would have been cooler if we'd stuck to the pantheon stuff but i'm guessing we'll be getting more of that next season#and also. i'm STILL hoping for susan goddamnit

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.
#seeing some discourse and im not saying lucy grey didnt know#im saying she never dropped the kind of hints that she knew like she did in the movie#or if she did snow isnt worried about them until he very suddenly is consumed by them#snow is not concerned about whether or not she believed him. of course she did! hes snow!#but then shes gone…. for a while……#and its the sudden immediate drastic unravelling that comes across so clearly in the book#that i knew wouldn’t translate to screen yet still cant help but miss#the hunger games#coriolanus snow#tbosas#lucy gray baird#not a crime or anything just a note that i cannot stop thinking about#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#this is all from memory of reading it quite a while ago. so maybe 3 pages is an exaggeration#but i remember it happening VERY quickly and without much external cause#like we as the reader have no indication as to whether shes nearby or not.#snow has no idea either. he just SUSPECTS. and his suspicion breeds the hatred that has been bubbling inside him all this time#he hates how she undoes him. he hates that he WOULD run away with her if shed let him keep his secrets#and he HATES more than anything that she makes him WANT to tell his secrets#he wants to be vulnerable and reveal the ugly nasty parts about himself and still be loved#but he does not let himself and it is everyone’s downfall#he chooses cruelty bc it is easy and familiar and makes him feel more powerful than the vulnerable give and take that real love requires

3 times Phantom's Guardian was Mentioned + 1 Time He Showed Up
One
Phantom’s introduction to Young Justice wasn’t as dramatic as Empress’ or Slobo’s, or even Arrowette’s first introduction to the cave. No, it wasn’t during the Olympics, or on a battlefield, and he didn’t come in injured and looking for help.
Impulse just brought Phantom in one day and insisted that he should join because he’s their age, interested in justice, and now that Greta’s human again they need another ghost member. So Phantom stayed, popping in and out for missions but never really sticking around all that long.
Today is one of the days that Phantom’s with them on a mission, that being looking around a lab of the Brain’s that had an energy surge recently, despite it being presumably abandoned.
Kon got paired up with Phantom to check the rest out first, since they both have better hearing than Anita and Tim, who were both still in the main room working on checking the computers for previous activity.
The room is dark except for the light green ball glowing slightly above Phantom’s hand. He waves it around enough for it to reflect off of glass, then throws it up to the ceiling. The light expands enough to illuminate the room.
Phantom mumbles about not knowing he could do that. Kon ignores him and moves closer to inspect the glass tubes to the side of several monitors set up.
“Looks like cloning equipment,” Phantom says, casually. He drags a finger through the dust gathering on one of the monitors. “Don’t think they’ve been activated recently, though, so that’s good.”
“What? You got a problem with clones or something?” It’s a quick and defensive answer, and Phantom puts his hands up in surrender.
“Not in concept.” He shrugs and joins Kon near the tubes. “But not a lot of people ask before making clones.”
“So I don’t need to sic Superman on you?” Obviously Kon could chew Phantom out himself, but few can do a “not mad, just disappointed” face better than Clark.
Phantom scrunches his face. “Why would you need to?”
Kon stops pretending to inspect the tube and stares at Phantom. “You do know I’m a clone, right?” The blank look on Phantom’s face tells him that no, he did not. “Well I am. Clone of Superman, though we’re pretty much brothers now.”
“Cool,” Phantom says, not a bit less friendly. He hesitates for a second before continuing, “Could I maybe ask you how you got there? Me and my clone have landed on cousins, but that was also, like, given to us by her evil dad. So.”
Phantom trails off. Huh, that makes three members of the team that have been cloned. Not a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened three times.
“You’re making sure she feels accepted, right?”
“Yeah! Well, whenever she’s around. She,” Phantom waves his hand around, looking for the right word, “She’s a wanderer. Exploring the world and stuff. But Richard has a room for her at home, and I remind her of that whenever she does stop by.”
“Well, first of all, don’t push it so hard,” Kon says. Phantom nods enthusiastically. “And second, who’s Richard?”
Kon doesn’t know a lot of Richards, and he doesn’t think that Phantom ever mentioned one before. Or even if he remembers his living life.
“Oh, he’s my, uh, guardian? I guess that’s the best term. The guy I’m living with who forces me to go to school sometimes.” Phantom looks away and back to the tubes.
Before Kon can ask for more details, Robin and Empress come in with a report of dead computers and wanting to know where they’re at with the cloning room.
They’re unimpressed with their lack of progress.
Two
Wally doesn’t really need to come by the Hamilton Lodge that often, not when that’s Young Justice’s territory and he doesn’t want to get involved in all of That.
But Red Tornado said that the team has a file on a planet that’s very quickly becoming a league problem, and he figured it might be a good time to try to check in with Bart, anyway. Make sure he hasn’t run any cars off cliffs again and all that.
So he stops by Manchester to ask Bart about the file, then they both head East to actually find it.
When they arrive at the hotel minutes later, Wally’s surprised to actually find it… clean? There’s no visible trash or overturned furniture or anything else he’d expect from an abandoned hotel filled with teenagers. Well, maybe not filled, lately. He doesn’t think anyone’s living here currently, with Greta at Elias’ for the school year and Slobo gone.
Still, the room smells slightly of artificial pine scent, and Bart perks up before disappearing and reappearing rapidly, holding a teammate up by his armpits. Said teammate just accepts this, his legs folding into a wispy tail, and head rolling against his shoulders.
“This is Phantom!” Bart holds him up higher. Phantom waves. Wally’s only heard of him through Max’s updates, the same way he would hear about Preston or Carol, but with more wariness about the supposed ghost.
Actually looking at the pale face and glowing green eyes contrasting against the darker than dark jumpsuit, Wally’s a little more ready to accept his claim at being undead.
“He stress cleans,” Bart explains, moving to carry Phantom under his arm. Wally bites down the urge to tell him to put him down, but only because Phantom doesn’t resist the hold, only moving to get into a more comfortable position. His hands are touching the floor. “So what happened?”
Bart directs the question downwards, and Phantom heaves a very dramatic sigh. Definitely a teenager. It does raise the question of who exactly this kid’s mentor is. Hopefully he does have one. Maybe he’s the Spectre’s kid?
Phantom phases through the arm holding him only to lay on top of Bart’s hair. “I accidentally called Richard dad. And then fled.”
Bart nods sagely. “Classic. One time I accidentally called Max dad, so I had to start a fire to distract him.”
Phantom sighs again, almost dreamily. “Genius.”
Wally doesn’t have time to unpack all of that. Well he does, but he’s not going to, because there’s really only one Richard that comes to mind that might have the heart to take in a dead kid, even if he doesn’t go by his full name.
But surely Dick would have told him, or any other Titan, if he had adopted a kid. Right?
But there’s still a little shadow of doubt. Maybe Dick wanted it to be a secret, or it was really new or had a rocky start. Phantom doesn’t seem to hold himself like a Bat, but it’s not a guarantee Dick would have trained him.
“The lodge looks nice,” Wally offers out loud, which Phantom shrugs at and wraps his tail around Bart’s head to keep secure. “Anyway, Impulse. The file on Myrg?”
“Oh yeah!” Again, Bart disappears then reappears a few seconds later with a paper file. They really need to start digitizing more of these things. “That’s the planet where we played baseball so that they wouldn’t destroy Earth!”
“You what.”
The prospect of Dick following in his dad’s footsteps is forgotten in the face of what the hell Young Justice got up to on Myrg.
Three
Tim may be in a…Predicament.
It’s not his fault. Really. He knew what he was doing. He couldn’t let a civilian fall for the trap. But they were already so close, so he just, kinda, pushed himself into the rope instead.
So there Robin is, tied upside down in a warehouse, with the Joker below next to an overly complicated control panel. The clown’s rambling about bombs hidden all over the city that Tim knows Batman is already tracking down with Batgirl.
Tim’s not really paying attention to the rant because of that, more focused on wiggling enough to get the spare mini-birdarang out of his glove to cut the rope without notifying the Joker.
“Yikes, bad time?” Asks Phantom’s voice beside him. Based on the source and accounting for the slight echo, he’s floating with his head near Tim’s, likely upside down. “Want some help?”
Tim gets the birdarang out and starts sawing at the thick rope. They should be fine anyway, but stalling the Joker for extra time would be helpful. “Can you possess the Joker? Just hold him still.”
“The correct term is overshadow, but sure.” The voice disappears, and a few seconds later the Joker freezes.
His body jerks forward, then backward, and a laugh chokes out of his throat. His hand claws over his mouth at the noise and he hunches over. All movement halts before he rights himself, shaking out his hands and rolling his shoulders. Phantom looks up at Tim and his eyes are glowing.
Tim cuts through the rope, kicking and using the momentum to right himself and land on his feet. He brushes past Phantom in Joker’s body to handle the control panel. He turns off the radio broadcast and dismantles the bomb strapped to the panel.
Threat handled, he turns to Phantom and holds up some handcuffs. “Let me arrest you?”
Phantom obliges, turning the Joker’s body around and putting his hands behind his back. Tim lets him walk by himself out of the warehouse and moves the handcuffs around a lamppost. The Joker’s body jerks again, then slumps forward, just as Phantom reappears next to him, scowling down at the unconscious body.
“That felt really slimy. Zero out of ten, would not do again,” Phantom grouches.
“Why’re you in Gotham?” Tim asks. It’s not like Phantom makes a habit of visiting. The last time he came into the city, he complained about feeling the dead under the streets. Fortunately, that let Tim uncover a few tunnels that Talons travel through. Phantom, however, was unnerved by the Talons and left quickly.
“Oh, Solomon Grundy’s back in our sewers. Richard said I should probably tell one of you Gotham heroes, since you keep track of those guys.” He shakes out his hands like they were cramped in the Joker.
They hadn’t seen Grundy in a while. Tim assumed he was currently in a less violent personality. “What’s he doing?”
Phantom shrugs. “Just chilling. Mostly underground. I tried to talk to him but he only grunted back at me. He also tried to pick me up, dunno what that was about.”
“Maybe because you’re both dead?” Tim guessed. That would be a surface level connection. Ivy and Woodrue have had more luck working with Grundy than anyone, and Phantom definitely doesn’t have the connection to the Green that’d help with that.
Police lights turn around the corner, and Tim shoots a grapple to get to the roof above them. Phantom follows, but disappears as soon as they’re on the roof. Going back home, probably.
Cass drops down from the roof she was listening on. “Richard?”
“Not the same one.”
They both stick around long enough to watch the Joker get put into the cop car.
Plus one
A spaceship landed in the forests of New York, and Cassie’s team was the first to respond to it. Technically not respond, but check it out, since there wasn’t any alert or anything.
Still, Wonder Girl has Empress, Robin, and Superboy on the other side of the ship, watching what looks like the back door, while she, Impulse, and Phantom watch the other door and main window. She has binoculars, but the windows are so tinted she can’t quite make anything out.
No aliens have come out yet, and she hesitates to have anyone go in, in case whoever inside does turn hostile.
Impulse has offered to run through a total of five times already, and it’s a testament to his restraint that he hasn’t, and a testament to Cassie’s that she hasn’t yelled at him yet. Phantom at least isn’t being annoying, but he’s not necessarily helpful, either. He’s not even watching the spaceship anymore. Now he’s trying to make a flower crown out of dandelions.
“Door’s opening on our side,” Robin says from the comms. “But no one’s coming out.”
“Alright, good enough to try to get in,” Cassie decides. She turns to Phantom, who’s closing off the circle of flowers. Beside him, Impulse has since pulled out a gameboy. “Phantom, go in invisibly through the open door and report back. Try to see what their plans are.”
“Oh, sure. One second.” Phantom finishes the crown and tries to put it on Bart’s head. It doesn’t quite fit over his mane of hair, but Phantom shrugs and leaves it sitting there anyway before going invisible.
“Maybe I should shave my head again,” Bart says as his game character dies.
He gets a resounding no in response.
Half an hour later they have a very annoyed Green Lantern lecturing them about league jurisdiction and knowing when to call someone else.
Apparently, the alien ship was just stopping to complete some maintenance, and did not appreciate any spying on them, and especially did not appreciate who did it. Green Lantern was more than happy to explain that Wonder Girl’s team is not really a part of the Justice League and he can help with their maintenance. They denied his help and left to find a place with less people in it.
“-and you!” Green Lantern rounds on Phantom next, but Cassie knows none of them are really listening. Sure, they messed up by freaking out the visiting aliens, and yeah maybe they should have contacted the league about it, but they’ve dealt with stuff worse than this! It’s not Cassie’s fault she thought that this would have stuck to the formula.
“Who even are you?” Green Lantern runs a hand through his black hair, stupid green gauntlets shining in the sunlight. “Do I need to call your mentor?” He frowns. “Or do they know you mess up alien technology by just being around it?”
Phantom scoffs and rolls his eyes. “How was I supposed to know their tech would go all fuzzy when I came in?”
“You wouldn’t have to know if you just stayed out of the spaceship!”
“Hey!” Cassie cuts in. “Technically that was my call. It’s not all on Phantom.”
“I still could've been more careful,” Phantom says to her, ignoring Green Lantern as they argue about blame.
“Cut it out for a second, okay?” Green Lantern puts a hand between them and they stop to glare at him. He pulls the hand back. “Look, can I just talk to one of your adults about this?”
Robin glares. “We don’t need an adult. We have this under control.”
“Only because I’m here now.”
“I’ll call my mentor,” Phantom says. Kon opens his mouth, most likely to offer to call Superman instead in hopes of a lighter sentence, but Bart covers his mouth, smiling like he knows something Cassie doesn’t. Tim and Anita share a look, and don’t intervene as Phantom pulls out a phone from his chest.
It rings once before it’s picked up. Cassie can’t hear the other side of the conversation, but Kon’s eyebrows scrunch in confusion. “Hey, do you think you can pick me up? Green Lantern wants to talk to you.” Phantom looks Green Lantern up and down then says, “No, this one doesn’t have a cape.”
Phantom says goodbye after rattling off their coordinates, hangs up, and stares at Green Lantern in silence for a few seconds.
And then a swirling mass of black seeps into the space next to Phantom. The end of a cane steps out of it, followed by a leg, then the rest of the immaculately dressed man holding the handle of the cane that’s shaped like a bird’s head.
“Phantom,” The man says. His voice drips with condescension in only a way a british accent can, yet Phantom smiles up at him. The shadowy portal behind him disappears. “What, exactly, happened?”
“That’s the fucking Shade,” Anita hisses to Robin, who shrugs noncommittedly at her. Green Lantern seems to recognise him too, taking a step back and clenching his hand that holds his ring.
“Well, the team and I were staking out this spaceship–super cool, by the way–and I went inside to check it out, but my presence messed with their tech–which was an accident–and they freaked out, so I freaked out, and then we kinda got into a little fight until Green Lantern came to mediate.”
“Hm. Is that right?” The Shade asks Green Lantern, who nods slowly, still anticipating an attack. “It seems like the problem’s fixed, then.”
“Well, yes, but–”
“And it does seem about time for these kids to get home, doesn't it?” The Shade pulls out an actual pocket watch, chain and all, from his suit pocket and takes his time in checking it. “I’ll see them home.”
Shadows grow from behind the team, swirling until they become a giant, gaping maw that swallows them up and spits them out in a different forest, or maybe just a different part of the same forest.
Either way, Cassie has to take a moment to make sure she doesn’t throw up from the sudden vertigo the shadow portal caused.
The Shade looks at Phantom, and raises an eyebrow. “You can’t expect me to always bail you out.”
Phantom shrugs, looking guilty. “I know. Thanks, Richard.”
Oh, so that’s who Richard is. Annoyingly, neither Tim or Bart look surprised by this revelation.

Silco SO should've haunted the narrative in s2 I can't stress this enough. Like, we knew Vander, Mylo and Claggor only for 3 episodes, but their presence was felt aaaall throughout s1. And now you're telling me that a PRIMARY ANTAGONIST of s1, a leader of Zaun, Jinx's dad and The person who started the negotiations with Piltover for Zaun's independence only got a couple of mentions?? Which aren't even relevant to the plot or character motivations??? Are you LEGIT FOR REAL kidding me???? I still can't believe this happened chat.
He's literally a part of the main cast. He literally was present in every single episode of s1. And again, given just How Much was tied directly to him his death should've had just. Massive consequences. For almost every single character. And yet.
My honest reaction to this information:
#i'm obv not talking about fights for power in the undercity because they couldn't have possibly skipped through this part. i'm talking about#Literally Everything Else. he should've been there. he should've haunted the narrative like he's still alive.#first and foremost i'm ofc talking about fishbones because. yeah. i'm actually preparing a post about it so *wink*#sigh i'm so angryyyyyyy. not only because i'm a silco fan but because i like good writing and haunting the narrative is one of my favorite#tropes. and it was SO well executed in s1 and i just. what stopped you from doing it again????#and you had a great reference too???? i just don't get i genuinely don't#arcane critical#arcane season 2#silco arcane#silco#arcane#side note: ugh it's so satisfying so use these gifs i can't

Fenton, the Ghost Hunter Hero
So! When Danny first saw a Ghost attacking his school, he was still terrified of his parents finding out about his Powers.
He looked exactly the same in his Ghost Form, sounded the same, he even had the Hazmat Suit his parents had custom made for him on as a Ghost. There was no way anybody wouldn't immediately find him out if he tried to stop Lunch Lady with his Powers, it was so obvious!
But he couldn't just leave her there. She had crossed through the Portal that he opened, and was attacking his friends. He needed to stop her somehow!
So he tried, he just didn't use his Powers. He stole a bunch of his parents Inventions, fixed the broken ones so they actually worked, and ran in to stop Lunch Lady as a Human. The battle lasted far longer than he would have liked, but eventually he managed to stop her and shove her into the Thermos.
And from there on out, he just kept doing it. Danny became the Town's defacto Hero, since his parents were too Incompetent and he had the ability to actually beat the Ghosts, he had to protect the people he had endangered.
Soon enough people began to notice his Heroics. Mr Lancer didn't stop him when he ran out of the classroom, Dash stopped shoving him in Lockers, and his parents were Ecstatic when they found out he had gone into the "Family Business".
He still kept his Ghost Form hidden from his parents and the Public though. It was still too dangerous.
He only ever used his Ghost Form while in the Ghost Zone so he could blend in, and avoid being attacked by the multiple Ghosts who he had forced back in there. Danny Fenton was a Ghost Hunter, Phantom was just another Ghost wandering the Ghost Zone.
(Though he did gain some infamy by defeating some powerful ghosts, like Aragon or Plasmius)
Years down the line, Fenton remained the respected Ghost Hunting Hero of Amity Park, his greatest accomplishment being the defeat of Pariah Dark, the Ghost King.
That battle had actually drawn outside attention to the town for a change, and it wasn't long before Danny was offered a spot on the Justice League's Junior Team. It wasn't every day when the evil Ruler of another Dimension was defeated by a non-powered Human, so it actually sparked some interest in the Town.
Unfortunately, Danny couldn't accept the Invitation.
If he joined the Justice League, it ws only a matter of time before one of their multitude of Magic Users realized the truth and outed him as a Ghost. He couldn't take that chance.
He was content staying as a small town Hero dealing with a "minor" Ghost Problem, no need to overcomplicate matters.
That is, until the JL contacted him again a few months later. Apparently, their Time Travelers had warned of an Evil Ghost known as Phantom, who would one day grow so powerful he would destroy the world and leave it in ruins. They needed his help as an expert Ghost Hunter to track down Phantom, for the safety of the world.
Problem. This version of Danny had never actually met Dan, since his history went so differently. Now he is terrified of what event could have led to him becoming the Worst Supervillain in History.
#Dpxdc#Dp x dc#Dcxdp#Dc x dp#Danny Phantom#Dc#Dcu#Danny is a Hero as a Human#Fenton is a Hero#Phantom is a random Ghost#Danny has Sam and Tucker act as his Sidekicks/Guys in the Chair#They have their powers but also hide them for the same reasons as Danny#Danny never encountered Dan or Clockwork in his AU#This Danny was forgiven more in Class because he was a known Hero so he didn't need to steal the Test Answers#So his friends and family never died and he never became Phantom#But that future with an Evil Danny still exists in this AU somehow#So how the hell did he turn into a Supervillain in this version of events?#Was he destined to become a Supervillain or did the JLA just kickstart a self fulfilling Prophecy?#Danny is scared#The Evil Future Phantom matches him Exactly down to the Powerset and Appearance so he knows it must be him#For context Danny is 16 when he is first offered to join the JLA#And 17 when he learns about his Future
