Saw someone claim that most if not all anti-capitalist movements are actually funded by either one of the three corporations that own everything, or by the government directly (on behalf of said corporations), and that they're responsible for things such as people believing we should hand the government more power (read: I don't think people should starve to death on the streets in the world's richest and most powerful nation), or that libertarian is synonymous with pedophile. And I think this is very funny for a couple of reasons.
First of all, I think the implication here is that those filthy anti-capitalists are actually on the corporate payroll while us noble and inscrutable defenders of capital do it from the bottom of our hearts, which absolutely isn't the case. Generally speaking, there is no money to be found on the left. The money you do get there is like, donations to individual lefty streamers, tv shows or other media that are progressive and also popular, or political campaigns that people donate to and sometimes someone with deep pockets donates to them. Of the three I listed, one of them is political campaigns that go towards a specific cause or candidate (conservatives will lie to you and say that these all just go to lining some politician's pocket and are scams but that is because they are politically illiterate and hate you), one of them is >be in Hollywood, and one of them is Hasan Piker Bought A Car with money he got in perhaps the most ethical way it's possible to get money. With the exception of the second one, these are all pretty grassroots. Meanwhile conservatives will consistently make bank with no effort. Steven Crowder has no charismatic skills whatsoever and can't even pretend he doesn't hate black people and his recent spat with the Daily Wire has revealed that he's been propped up by millionaire sponsors like Cary Katz his entire life. Speaking of, Gina Carano did nothing exceptional except make an unfunny pronouns joke right after her co-actor's sister came out and then compared being a conservative to being a Jew in Nazi Germany and Ben Shapiro immediately offered her a position at the Daily Wire. Tim Pool owns a fucking underground bunker. Not to mention Prager University being funded by the Wilks brothers and a bunch of other oligarchs, which explains why they'll have occasional episodes talking about how fracking is actually the most environmentally friendly thing in the world in between praising Robert E Lee for stopping a slave rebellion or something. In general, people grift left (when they do so at all) for the social clout which they don't even get half the time, and grift right for the money of which they will be given a disgusting amount of almost immediately.
The thing about the secret propaganda about libertarians being bad and also pedophiles is really funny though because it acts as though the only reason libertarians don't have any respect in the current political atmosphere is because they're secretly being kept down, man. When in reality the reason libertarians lack such a voice despite their loudness is because they're incoherent and unlikable. And I know this because the OP is a libertarian and the main crux of their post was that insulin is expensive because some rich douchebags got to it first, sold it for unreasonable prices, and then used that money to lobby the government into making it such that only they could sell insulin. Which I agree with, until they said that this was somehow anathema to capitalism, because "no interference no regulation invisible hand only final destination, survival of the fittest if you can't handle the heat stay out of the kitchen, money equals power, the result that reveals itself is the optimal result" as an ideology is wholesome and consistent and American until it has demonstrably awful negative effects on the world at which point it stops being capitalism and becomes a scarier word, thus allowing me to condemn people getting randomly shot while still advocating for pointing guns at people for no reason and pulling the trigger as though my existence and dignity both depended upon it.

I enjoyed it, in short. Satisfying sports story, a solid message, decent humour and a serviceable cast. Emilio Estevez is fine in the role of Gordon, he’s definitely the best actor on display here. The numerous child actors are all alright, Shaun Weiss (Goldberg) is the one who stands out in my memory most. A nice little film about a local, youth ice hockey team, one for the family.

American Rose: A Nation Laid Bare - The Life and Times of Gypsy Rose Lee, by Karen Abbott
The Comedians: Drunks, Thieves, Scoundrels, and the History of American Comedy, by Kliph Nesteroff
My current work project started as, "I want to explain to people what the Hays Code is," and it rapidly became, "I cannot explain the Hays Code to you until after we have discussed B.F. Keith's policy for all vaudeville performances hosted in his chain of theaters."
I still have twenty-three texts about vaudeville that I need to finish reading, all before I even get to my readings about Thomas Edison, the Lumiere Brothers, W.K.L. Dickson, and all the other people who are wrapped up in the development of film technology.
We'll get to the Hays Code eventually, I swear. 😭

Shadow of the Vampire (2000)
With Shadow of the Vampire, writer Steven Katz and director E. Elias Merhige have caught lightning in a bottle. It isn’t that the film couldn’t have been made at any other point - though a different decade and country probably wouldn’t have given them access to Willem Dafoe, so good here. It’s that a fictional account of the making of any other film besides F. W. Murnau’s classic Nosferatu just wouldn't work. The way "Shadow of the Vampire" manages to be both funny and frightening and then do it in ways you don’t expect is kind of brilliant.
In 1921, German director F. W. Murnau (John Malkovich) announces that an obscure German theater performer will play the vampire in “Nosferatu”, his unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. To fully immerse himself in the role, Max Schreck (Dafoe) will only appear in makeup, at nighttime and will never break character. Strange incidents on the set lead the crew to suspect that Murnau has employed a real vampire to make the most authentic film possible.
If you’ve seen Nosferatu, you know how appropriate this fictional scenario is. Murnau’s vampire is a monster like no other. The film has dream-like atmosphere. It isn’t influenced by the much better known 1931 adaptation of Dracula featuring Bela Lugosi, so it interprets the idea of an immortal bloodsucker in a unique way. Murnau didn’t obtain filming rights from Stoker’s widow before production began and all prints were nearly destroyed once she found out. Why didn’t he wait until he had the rights, or just make a different story? Then there’s the picture’s age. Made in 1921, it comes from that bridge between the old world and the new. Movies were being made, but everyone was making it up as they went along, which led to strange choices from everyone involved. Nosferatu is an oddity that’s hypnotic and I can think of no better film whose origin could be shrouded in a sinister mystery.
We’ve got a dynamite premise and the perfect film to apply it to. The final, critical piece comes in the form of the actors. Dafoe is so good here. He’s weird enough that you and the film crew believe he might be an actual vampire. He seems filled with perpetual sadness: a monster, but a pathetic monster, a creature who’s lived on for so long it no longer has a place in a world where you can not only capture an image of the sun and look at it anytime, but film an entire sunrise and project it on a screen to tell a fictional story.
Of course Schreck isn’t actually a vampire because vampires aren’t real, right? And even if vampires were real, what kind of insane film director would hire one? How would you pay them? In blood? How would you coach a vampire to pretend to drink from your female lead (Catherine McCormack as Greta Schroeder)? Unless you shot the film in a way that meant the scene where she is attacked is the last one before production wraps…
There are movies who get better the longer you sit with them. Nosferatu and Shadow of the Vampire are two examples. The more I talk about Shadow of the Vampire, the more I like it. There are so many details here to be considered, though “details” feel like the wrong word. It implies little hidden things when, in fact, they are not hidden, they’re right there, but invisible at a first glance. This is a film I’m going to return to, both mentally, and physically. Shadow of the Vampire is a motion picture like none other and a perfect companion to a horror classic. (On DVD, April 13, 2018)

This is long but it is important. Thanks for this!
#resist
This is where I stand. I feel that our 45th President, his Cabinet and administration, and the majority of Republicans in Congress are a real and active threat to me, my way of life, and all the people I love. Some people are saying that we should give Trump a chance, that we should "work together" with him because he won the election and he is "everyone's president." I am willing to do all of that if/when his policies seem reasonable. However:
•I will not forget how badly he and so many others treated former President Barack Obama for 8 years...
•I will not "work together" to privatize Medicare, cut Social Security and Medicaid.
•I will not "work together" to build a wall.
•I will not "work together" to persecute Muslims.
•I will not "work together" to shut out refugees from other countries.
•I will not "work together" to lower taxes on the 1% and increase taxes on the middle class and poor.
•I will not "work together" to help Trump use the Presidency to line his pockets and those of his family and cronies.
•I will not "work together" to weaken and demolish environmental protection.
•I will not "work together" to sell American lands, especially National Parks, to companies which then spoil those lands.
•I will not "work together" to enable the killing of whole species of animals just because they are predators or inconvenient for a few, or because some people want to get their thrills killing them.
•I will not "work together" to remove civil rights from anyone.
•I will not "work together" to alienate countries that have been our allies for as long as I have been alive.
•I will not "work together" to slash funding for public education.
•I will not "work together" to take basic assistance from people who are at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.
•I will not "work together" to get rid of common sense regulations on guns.
•I will not "work together" to mark transgendered men and women as something to fear.
•I will not "work together" to eliminate the minimum wage.
•I will not "work together" to support so-called "Right To Work" laws, or undermine, weaken or destroy Unions in any way.
•I will not "work together" to suppress scientific research, be it on climate change, fracking, or any other issue where a majority of scientists agree that Trump and his supporters are wrong on the facts.
•I will not "work together" to criminalize abortion or restrict health care for women.
•I will not "work together" to increase the number of nations that have nuclear weapons.
•I will not "work together" to put even more "big money" into politics.
•I will not "work together" to violate the Geneva Convention.
•I will not "work together" to give the Ku Klux Klan, the Nazi Party and white supremacists a seat at the table, or to normalize their hatred.
•I will not "work together" to deny health care to people who need it.
•I will not "work together" to deny medical coverage to people on the basis of a "pre-existing condition."
•I will not "work together" to increase voter suppression.
•I will not "work together" to normalize tyranny.
•I will not “work together” to eliminate or reduce ethical oversight at any level of government.
•I will not "work together" with anyone who is, or admires, tyrants and dictators.
•I will not support anyone that thinks its OK to put a pipeline to transport oil on Sacred Ground for Native Americans. And, it would run under the Missouri River, which provides drinking water for millions of people. An accident waiting to happen.
This is my line, and I am drawing it.
•I will stand for honesty, love, respect for all living beings.
•I will use my voice and my hands, to reach out to the uninformed, and to anyone who will LISTEN:
That "winning", "being great again", "rich" or even "beautiful" is nothing... When others are sacrificed to glorify its existence.
If you agree, feel free to copy and re-post (this results in larger numbers of people seeing a post than sharing...just press your finger down on your phone screen, hit "copy", go to your Facebook...comment by pressing your finger on your comment area and hit "paste"), and if you want, sign your name below ours.

Bro talk about all of the damn characters for the prompt thing I care abt them so much (Rhama tho do Rhama plz)
victor you said this and then i posted the rahma ask and then i dm’ed you to ask who ELSE you wanted to see and then i was ALMOST done writing up the ask and i accidentally refreshed the page. which is why this has taken so long because that defeated me. i would die for you tysm
anyway! i am going to do this for reuben (rahma’s best friend; benvolio character; king of skateboarding places) and hawk (isaac’s best friend; horatio character; objectively the best character in AMT but it’s not like i have favorites-)
(the WIP) (the ask game)
REUBEN
B A S I C S
full name: reuben felix katz
gender: cis guy
sexuality: gay
pronouns: he/him
O T H E R S
family: it’s just reuben and his mom; his dad passed when he was young. reuben would die for his mother and so would i. perfect parent. they also have a cat named smokey who is approximately three thousand years old.
birthplace: like most of the other characters, reuben grew up in the fictional town of ellisburg, wisconsin. unlike most of the other characters, reuben’s family is decidedly not on the “rolexes and boat shoes” side of the wealth spectrum in ellisburg, and that’s something he’s very aware of (even if he often feels his friends… aren’t).
job: he canonically works at a papa murphy’s which is one (1) throwaway line in the middle of an episode and exists because i used to work at a papa murphy’s. gang gang
phobias: he doesn’t really scare easily or have a lot of common phobias (would definitely keep snakes and rats as pets; type one diabetic so he got over any potential fear of needles; canonically played pokemon during a school tornado drill). probably he’s not so into heights, but he wouldn’t show it.
guilty pleasures: watching golden girls with smokey (”he’s like seventy in cat years; he’s the target audience”)
M O R A L S
morality alignment?: neutral good
sins - envy. he’s very conscious that he’s had to deal with a lot of things his friends have not (medical stuff, monetary stuff, the loss of a parent, a lot of responsibility as a child), and while he’s not resentful, he can get bitter about it.
virtues - diligence (he works very hard at everything!!); humility; kindness (at least he tries; he doesn’t think he’s as nice as he could be, but he wishes he were); patience (kind of a given when your best friends are rahma “zoned out or in love or both” ashiq and bitty “complete goddamn wild card” chopra)
T H I S - O R - T H A T
introvert/extrovert
organized/disorganized
close minded/open-minded
calm/anxious
disagreeable/agreeable (he’s very much not a fan of making waves)
cautious/reckless (in any other group of people reuben would be the Chaotic Friend. as it is. he’s in the only trio where he could possibly end up the responsible one)
patient/impatient
outspoken/reserved
leader/follower (bitty pretty much calls the shots in their trio; reuben can only try to be the voice of reason)
empathetic/unempathetic
optimistic/pessimistic (he wishes he were more optimistic! he hides his pessimism very well. he would probably call himself a realist.)
traditional/modern
hard-working/lazy (very much so)
R E L A T I O N S H I P S
otp: reuben x bitty but only with the caveat that they’re sixteen and have some relationship issues to work through
ot3: …reuben somehow dating hawk as well as bitty would be. an incredibly healing concept. hmm. i will keep this in my mind
brotp: reuben and rahma!!
notp: isaac and reuben used to be friends and now they are not! and their dynamic is very tumultuous and bad for both of them! and if AMT by some miracle of god had a fandom people would ship them and that makes me want to break things
HAWK
B A S I C S
full name: hawk damon stevens
gender: cis guy
sexuality: gay
pronouns: he/him
O T H E R S
family: he’s an only child with two dads! they are very good parents and thus don’t come into the story much at all. oops.
birthplace: hawk was born and grew up in milwaukee! he lived there until he was about ten, at which point [redacted] [redacted] and his family moved to ellisburg.
job: N/A
phobias: he does not care for needles at ALL.
guilty pleasures: buzzfeed unsolved and documentaries. (mostly he watches documentaries about ancient rome and whatever else is on the history channel, but, like, if he’s left alone long enough he will eventually get really deep down the true crime rabbit hole and end up feeling like that cursed emoji with the bloodshot eyes.)
M O R A L S
morality alignment?: lawful good
sins - sloth (as in, inaction and a lack of standing up for himself or telling people no)
virtues - charity (sometimes to a fault. he gives too much of himself to other people); diligence (especially in school); humility; patience
T H I S - O R - T H A T
introvert/extrovert
organized/disorganized
close minded/open-minded
calm/anxious (i mean. yes. but most of the time he’s very level-headed)
disagreeable/agreeable (to a fault.)
cautious/reckless
patient/impatient
outspoken/reserved (reuben is reserved because he’s a private person; hawk is reserved because he gets anxious in social situations)
leader/follower (side-eyes isaac farley)
empathetic/unempathetic (sometimes too much!)
optimistic/pessimistic
traditional/modern
hard-working/lazy
R E L A T I O N S H I P S
otp: …well he and isaac do have a Situation going on but i’m not sure i can uncritically call them my otp because of the way their dynamic shifts and [redacted as we go into spoiler territory]
ot3: again i will state hawk and reuben somehow dating each other is a high quality concept
brotp: hawk and ginger’s friendship doesn’t get a lot of page time but it is so very sweet i love them
notp: hawk and ginger. they’re a gay man and a lesbian don’t even LOOK at them romantically or i’ll stomp you to death with my hooves
#max.txt#amt tag#reuben katz#hawk stevens#i'm sorry it took me 40 years to do this victor i love you sm#asks#victor tag

Innovative Functional Regenerative Medicine
Innovative Medicine is about restoring your body and mind’s power to heal itself by tapping into your own healing potential. The art of medicine is to understand and to anticipate a dysfunctional organism to help restoring itself to its full potential. There is an inevitable link between physical and mental health. The human body reacts to emotional and mental stress and distress. Innovative medicine recognizes this. A variety of approaches and therapies are incorporated that include psychological and emotional factors. These factors are often – but not always – entangled with a need for lifestyle adjustments or spiritual therapies. Spiritual therapies may include spiritual counseling, meditation, consciousness practices, and more. Often health care professionals don’t give any attention to this factor. Spirituality has such a vast space of manifestation that only a few dare taking the risk to integrate it in their approach of healing. It’s linked to connections within the universe and a moderate understanding of our existence. Innovative Medicine understands the spiritual association when it comes to wellbeing and health. Spirituality is closely related to mental wellbeing. Researchers found that stress and depression are linked to a decreased immune response. These aspects leave the human body susceptible to disease and may be the ultimate cause of one’s illness. Innovative Medicine emphasizes lifestyle changes as a considerable and important part of living a healthy life. It can impact a person’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental state. In Innovative Medicine, lifestyle factors aren’t limited to diet and exercise. These factors also involve stress-related mechanisms, relationships, and psychological consequences associated with psycho-emotional therapy methods. A sense of purpose or a person’s general happiness may also contribute to disease or illness. Innovative Medicine takes everything into account. It recognizes that acupuncture, TCM, Reiki, ‘qi’ therapy types, Ayurveda, homeopathy, herbology, emotional techniques, spiritual practices, and therapeutic touch energy therapies benefit certain individuals. It also realizes that great advancements have been made in energy medicine. We live in a global world where the East meet the West and there should not be preferential therapies based on religious, philosophical, cultural or financial preferences. A Doctor works with the noble purpose to help a human being in moments of pain, disability and sickness to the best of his ability with the tools he has to his disposition under whatever circumstances. He will never act to purposely, consciously and willingly harm any human being. There is a very fine silver lining between what is called innovative and functional medicine. But in both we can observe a new born unique approach towards health and wellbeing. A honest whole evaluation that considers the human being as a complex organism where all internal mechanism are connected and function with each other as well with the outer world. It will be very difficult to create health in an ecological sick and destroyed planet. The goal of Functional Medicine is to promote health and vitality in each patient. Practitioners examine each patient’s lifestyle and unique biochemical factors to identify the underlying causes of their disease and find treatments that help return patients to optimal health. Functional Medicine is holistic, one clinician looks at all aspects of the patient and focuses on prevention and health promoting lifestyle changes with sustainable treatments that address the underlying causes of dysfunction. Restoring patients to health Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century.By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, Functional Medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.Functional Medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, Functional Medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual. Functional Medicine incorporates the latest in genetic science, systems biology, and understanding of how environmental and lifestyle factors influence the emergence and progression of disease. Functional Medicine enables physicians and other health professionals to practice proactive, predictive, personalized medicine and empowers patients to take an active role in their own health. The most important factors, and the ones we examine first when gathering information about the patient, are the foundational lifestyle factors; sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress levels, relationships, and genetics. These are the roots and soil, which are in turn influenced by specific predisposing factors (antecedents), discrete events (triggers), and ongoing physiological processes (mediators), and may then result in fundamental imbalances at the trunk. These can eventually result in the signs and symptoms that are grouped into a diagnosable constellation that we call disease. Functional Medicine is a systems biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness.A diagnosis can be the result of more than one cause. For example, depression can be caused by many different factors, including inflammation. Likewise, a cause such as inflammation may lead to a number of different diagnoses, including depression. The precise manifestation of each cause depends on the individual’s genes, environment, and lifestyle, and only treatments that address the right cause will have lasting benefit beyond symptom suppression. It is an approach to health care that conceptualizes health and illness as part of a continuum in which all components of the human biological system interact dynamically with the environment, producing patterns and effects that change over time.
