My own thoughts about ur post and what you are talking about in general under a "Read more" cut, because of The Book of Bill Spoilers. Might remove the "Read more" cut at some point, after TBOB has been out for awhile, so Spoilers are less of a worry. Anyways, the rest of my reblog under the "Read more" cut.
"I’ve been seeing an interesting divide in the fandom about how they feel about Dipper and Mabel’s parents having marital issues.
"It changes the show a lot, in terms of how the kids act, why they got sent to Gravity Falls, why Dipper was looking for an idol, and why Mabel didn’t want summer to end. I’ve seen some people hate it and some people like it. I am the latter."
I personally love it too (well, as long as no one uses it as an excuse and/or "reason" to hate on Mabel or Dipper or call them selfish and/or etc., because I have seen some of that. Not a lot, but some - hopefully it will stay being very low, if not hopefully become basically zero at some point. A person can hope -, and I don't like it. AT ALL. They are both awesome, and kids, and complex, and flawed, and just dealing with stuff like humans and kids, man), and I find the divide it has caused to be a bit weird (personally, at least).
Like, as u point out, there are signs and stuff about Dipper's dreams/nightmares. Like them both seeking stability, Dipper seeking authority figures, through a possible reason or part of the reason why Dipper and Mabel were sent to Gravity Falls, some of the ways Mabel and Dipper react and behave: Like relying on each other a lot - though, that is partially because they are siblings and twins -, common responses what Dipper's nightmares could imply. I.e. trying to grow up too fast, or never wanting to grow up. Some of the more general ways they behave and/or react. Etc.
Like, I find it very weird people think there was no pssoble signs of this in the show or it makes the ending make less sense and/or etc. (which, I don't agree with. And I think things make even more sense in some ways), when there is.
I am not saying people have to think think/agree with parents having major trouble between them. Because it is very much up to interpretation.
Like, are they just in a rough patch, something worse, something better. If they are in a rough patch, will things get better, worst, something in-between?
What exactly Dipper even heard in the fight in the first place, because we don't even know exactly what Dipper overheard in the fight (what he did hear, got his overthinking mind to get even more paranoid, which caussed reoccuring nightmares though) to get him upset. There are various reasons why his parents sent them away, that don't even mean them having some spusal issues.
It is VERY much up to interpretation (which, I can really like. Also, I am an UT/DR fan, and lot of stuff in UT/DR are up to interpretation. Which I can really like in it/them. And me being an UT/DR fan, me liking interpretation and/or being used used it, is almost a given). People can interpret things in different ways (they like) and in so many ways. So I really don't think it something that should cause so much a divide and/or etc. imo.
(Also, if people really wanted to, u don't' even have to use stuff from The Book of Bill, if the want or pick and choose from it. It is an outside source from the show itself after all. Though, it is quite the good outside source, I think. And/or etc.
(And even the show itself, if u really want to pick or choice or have different interpretations and stuff. U can. Also, there is still like Death of the Author if people want to use that (more). And/or etc.).
(I also think it is good to keep in mind that Bill isn't really a completely reliable narrator either. In various ways and for various reasons).
I also think this makes Dipper and Mabel even more complex, and feel even more real, developed, etc. than before (which was already a lot). And helps expand the (expanded) Pines family even more (while still keeping things a lot up to interpretation and very open. Which I think is very cool).
And I also think expands (/deepens) stuff and etc. in general in a good way. Imo.
Anyways done now.
Great post and take! Just an awesome job with this (ur post).
Book of Bill Spoiler
I wanna talk about this
I’ve been seeing an interesting divide in the fandom about how they feel about Dipper and Mabel’s parents having marital issues.
It changes the show a lot, in terms of how the kids act, why they got sent to Gravity Falls, why Dipper was looking for an idol, and why Mabel didn’t want summer to end. I’ve seen some people hate it and some people like it. I am the latter.
Marriage problems doesn’t always mean a terrible home life, or abuse. Dipper wasn’t supposed to hear it, which means his parents are keeping it behind closed doors and not letting their issues become the twins’.
Which makes me believe this isn’t an abusive situation. Alex will torture the shit out of Stan and Ford (we know this), but Dipper and Mabel are precious to him, I don’t think he would put them in a bad/dangerous home life.
If Dipper’s having nightmares about it, it’s because it’s Dipper. He’s an anxious and paranoid kid, who makes mountains out of molehills and overthinks absolutely everything.
We don’t know the status of Mr and Mrs. Pines’ relationship. For all we know, the summer was just what they needed to patch things up, and everything was fine when the kids came home. But if at the end of the summer they have the oh-so-infamous sit down with the twins about a change in their family, it’s not inherently a bad thing.
Yes. The twins would be devastated if their parents separated.
Dipper would be extra moody and angry and our hopeless romantic Mabel would fall into a depression. I can see them both diving into distractions and finding comfort more with their Gravity Falls family. Keeping up with the Stans, Soos and Melody, Wendy, and Pacifica.
But things would settle down eventually, theyd get into a routine and eventually see how much happier their parents are. I can also see Mabel being excited she gets to decorate two bedrooms for herself, and getting to play matchmaker for her parents. Dipper would learn to live with it eventually, and I’m sure all he wants is to see his parents happy, but I think he’d fight it longer than Mabel does.
But they’d be okay.
This stuff happens, and I honestly love the representation, as a child of divorced parents. I don’t see it very often in children’s media, and I couldn’t relate to characters who had parents who got along with each other when I was a kid. And usually if they had step-parents it was because one of the parents died or something.
This is, classic Alex, left up to interpretation as to what’s happening in the Piedmont Pines’ household.
But whatever it is, our Mystery Twins will go through it together

A dream? A dream. Yes, that’s what it was, just a weirdly detailed nightmare.
Poke
That the same thing he told himself after the portal incident.
Poke
He has to start fixing this soon or his brother may be gone forever.
Poke
The biggest difference is Stanford is physically here.
Poke poke
And Stanley’s gonna kill him.
Poke
Stan begrudgingly opened his eyes and was met with big, brown eyes and two freckled cheeks an inch from his face. Along with a tiny finger near his forehead, closing in for another attack.
“AHHH!”, Stan jumped back
“I need to use the bathroom” Little Ford’s voice squeaked. Stan blinked. The nightmare definitely was real, and it had to potty.

I was tagged by my first ever irl Tumblr mutual and new friend @coffinbutch, whom I met along with the lovely @abyssaldyke outside of ManRay. (I hope I see you again soon!)
Relationship status: I (nb/aro/pan) am in a BFFEB (BFF with expanded benefits package) with Danimal (TF), and am good friends with their wife Ehawk (F). We've been friends for about 15 years and plan on growing old together and dying at the same time.
Favorite color: oddly enough, it's actually the Color of the Year this year! (though my Magenta has always been a bit richer and definitely metallic sheen) Some runners up can be seen here in the colors of my holy blade and the shade I painted my living room. Big 80's energy.
Song currently stuck in my head: Some Sunny Day, because this happened last night:
Three favorite foods: Melanzane pizza from wherever my mom decides is currently best in my Sicilian-eatery dominated home town of Gloucester, key lime pie, and Jelly Belly jellybeans.
Last song I listened to: my roommate singing Alison by Elvis Costello but substituting my cat Alistair's name. Before that: Ghost- Gunship
Dream trip: Dream-dream: through a dimensional rift into the Multiverse to visit the Discworld, and/or Gravity Falls. Regular: probably Australia and New Zealand so I can get bitten, stung, kicked, mauled or otherwise hassled by all the lovely wildlife. Specifically the Great Barrier Reef.
Last thing I googled: Soooo, I'm new to Tumblr and the whole fan thing in general (I am old but I got on new meds for depression and I LIKE things now!) and I had to google "What is a Blorbo"
For the record, not that anyone cares, my Blorbos are the Grunkles (Gravity Falls), Steve (Stranger Things), Steve (The Owl House, which is just AU Steve from Stranger Things, I have proof), and Camilla Hect (The Locked Tomb)
Tagging 10 people I want to get to know better (mostly you are the people who make me laugh the most and whose art I very much admire): @stephreyna @sovonight @slayfordpines @gin-juice-tonic @annakitsun3 @blorpdeeblorp @kezisdrawing @tazmiilly @portalford-hasadeathray @jackyjackdraws

A fun game tagged by @elishevart! Some questions to get to knows people better.
Favorite piece of clothing I own? A red velvet dress that fits be perfectly and is super soft (and my boyfriend thinks I look very cute in it).
Favorite comfort food? My family’s recipe for Chicken Lynn, which is a type of casserole that’s thick and is better than chicken soup on a cold day. It was my great-grandmother’s recipe and it’s been passed down from mother to daughter. My sister and I both LOVE it!
Favorite time of the year? FALL! I live in Tennessee so the Appalachian mountains are gorgeous this time of year, and the temperature is perfect every day!
Favorite song? Oh god, I have so many… one of my favorites is Uptight by Stevie Wonder.
Do you collect something? Nerdy plushies.? My windows are filled with stuffed animals from Helluva Boss, Hazbin Hotel, Gravity Falls, Pokémon, etc.
Favorite drink? Sweet tea.
Favorite fanfiction? Oh Lord… so many! I guess my favorite would be The Whole of Us (is greater than the sum of our broken pieces)

All right let’s do this thing.
All right for the tags @alextwdgf01 @dragon-tidbits @stephreyna @nelson-and-murdock @presidentstalkeyes @mother-ofthe-universe and anyone who would want to jump in.
Pick one of my five favorite movies!
I was tagged by @friendrat, but the original chain was getting kinda long, so we're doing a fresh post. Not including The Lord of the Rings even though it's my actual favorite because that's going to skew the results waaaaaaay too much.
Tagging @as-dreamers-do, @cat-dragoness, and @o-lei-o-lai-o-lord (and anyone who wants to do this but hasn't been tagged).

Ooh, I got tagged! ☺
Sadly, all my WIP stuff is labeled dumb things like:
1. FIC IDEAS
2. J-BOMB NOTES
3. AI Stuff
4. Story ideas
5. STAN loading dock
The WIP stuff that is already in progress on AO3 is:
1. Jheselbraum AU
2. Misplaced
3. Work Related Hazards
Ask away if you're curious
I want to know what's on deck from @stephreyna , @magoconut @cutebatart @nour386 and @sprinklesandmabeljuice !
WIP Ask Game
I got tagged by @dp-marvel94 Thank you for tagging me!
RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
So, this might be a little unhinged but I don't have a WIP folder. I have a WIP document that I created back in middle school where I work all of my fanfiction ideas, drafts and planning in. And it's been a looong time since I've been in middle school. I never delete anything out of it. So, I'm just going to name the few WIPs that I know I've touched recently.

In fact, I'll make it easy for you. :V
Who can I tag... how's about @novelistservant , @jikanet-tanaka and @stephreyna ! (If that's the right one to tag)
Song you’re vibing to right know. I’ll go first.

Local Heartbroken Man Divorces Woodpecker After Catching Her Having An Affair With Red Robin
This is fun! I tag @stephreyna, @lemonfodrizzlecake, @nour386, @jackyjackdraws, and @clownwry!
While writing last night, it occurred to me that the Gravity Falls Gossiper would have the most insane newspaper article titles ever. Here’s one I came up with:
“Manotaurs Assist with Demolition Project; ‘Git ‘em!’ Encourages Mayor”
And I decided this would be a fun game to play. So reblog with your own title! I tag @nelson-and-murdock, @journalnumberthree, @i-prefer-base-twelve, and whoever wants to do it!

Always nice to see someone getting gf brainrot.
And nice to see someone getting (many) ideas.
Will possibly be checking out ur tumblr every so often or something for those maybe gf fic(s) focused on (canon) Mr. and Mrs. Pines (through probably/maybe Dipper's POV. Cool /genuine).
Like I said in my other reblog of this post and to you; I am certainly excited to see stuff like this explored/got into/etc.
Good luck on (maybe) writing those GF fics!
