Y'all already know how they came to be, so I'll talk about how they came to be...together!

So, Alexis was already the Red Hood by the time Steph came into the picture. Bats couldn't always be around to help train Steph (and honestly just supervise her in general), so oftentimes Red was left to the task. For Red it was like a dog getting a new playmate. Finally! She didn't have to deal with Bruce being all quiet and emo alone anymore!

Steph immediately thought she was super cool and hot and basically short-circuited every time they were alone

Their relationship doesn't progress to anything past friendship while Steph is doing her time in-costume, but there's a mutual attraction between the two of them the eeenntiirree time. Alex has killed people in a roller derby outfit before, so she's got no shame she'd be ready to get hitched on the spot if Steph asked, but Steph has been made of repression and shame her entire life so it takes her a long time to accept herself for who she is

And then she gets paralyzed and her entire life is knocked upside down

Both Bruce and Red are there with her the entire way, but only Red knows what it's like to be betrayed by family in such a monumental way. It's that kinship they share and the soft side that Alex shows Steph during her recovery that finally allows their relationship to grow deeper

It's a very gradual process. Steph wakes up one day months later with Red sleeping in bed next to her and goes "OH GOD, ARE WE DATING??"

Like yeah, dummy. Y'all have been making out every day the past two weeks

Spoiler (curious, tilting her head): Hey, since I'm meeting you again and you're putting up a fight I feel like we got time, I've been wondering: What's your actual name?

Riddler (taken aback, brows furrowing): What?

Spoiler (leaning in, genuinely asking): What is your government name? It's not Edward Nygma; that's like a goofy alias. What's your actual name?

Spoiler crossed her arms, waiting for a genuine answer. Riddler looked at Batman, but the man simply shrugged and chuckled dryly.

Riddler (sighing, slightly irritated): I don't want to waste time with this, but my birth name is Edward Nygma.

Spoiler shook her head, unconvinced.

Spoiler (enthusiastically): This isn't part of the interrogation, dude. You can be honest with me; this is 'off the record.'

Riddler (twitching eyebrow, frustrated): You're the third person in this guy's team to doubt me. My name is Edward Nygma!

Spoiler held up her hands and spun around slowly, laughing.

Spoiler (between laughs): Okay, I get it, you don't want to be honest because we're good guys and you're a sucky villain, but come on, quit playing. It's Edward Nelson or something, right? Why aren't you laughing?

Riddler shook with rage as he glared at the blonde, masked hero, his fists clenched at his sides.

Riddler (voice rising): It's Edward Nygma, dammit! E D W A R D space N Y G M A! I'm not joking; this isn't a riddle—this is my birth name!

Spoiler's arms dropped and her shoulders slumped in shock. She glanced at Batman, her eyes wide with bewilderment. He nodded, confirming the man was not joking.

Spoiler (trying not laugh): No, it's not.

Riddler (doubling down, defensive): It is.

Spoiler paused for a moment, tapping her chin, then laughed sardonically.

Spoiler (playfully challenging): No, it's not. It has to be Nashton or something because I refuse, I absolutely refuse to believe that your name is Edward Nygma. So when you write it out with the letters and a period, it's E dot Nygma!

Riddler (shouting, exasperated): IT IS! That's my name and yes when it's written like that it's enigma! It's clever!

Batman covered his mouth, continuing to chuckle silently as Spoiler continued the argument.

Spoiler (pointing, teasing): You never thought to change your name? Edward Nashton is less stupid. E. Nash? That could mean anything. E. Nygma? Were you planning to be a supervillain since childhood? Like, Batman, you're smarter than him—tell me the truth.

Riddler (placing a hand on his chest, offended): Smarter than me?

Batman (enjoying the banter, smirking): His legal name is Edward Nygma.

Spoiler blinked, silent for a second, and then threw her head back laughing hysterically.

Spoiler (gasping for breath): I'm sorry, no I'm not! You kept that name while doing this? Before you got caught, you were like, "Edward Nygma, yes they'll never know it's me. E. Nygma." Because later you would title a couple of cards like that, and I thought it was fake—that there was no way it'd be that flipping stupid.

Riddler crossed his arms, clenching his jaw in rage.

Riddler (defensively): It is not a stupid name! My mother named me Edward!

Spoiler (mocking, giggling): And you kept the last name Nygma, you big dummy! I can't breathe; he's so stupid!

Spoiler wiped tears from her eyes.

Riddler (frustrated): Can you tell her to quit mocking me?!

Batman (smirking): Nah, she's on a roll so far.

Spoiler (excitedly, fueled by her laughter): Awesome, let me cook! Edward, you should change your name to Perry Uzzle. P. Uzzle!

Riddler (enraged, throwing his hands up): Uzzle isn't even a last name!

Spoiler (smirking, unwavering): Neither is Nygma! Oh, but wait—you have a Y instead of an I because your family wanted to stand out. At least Harley's name is Harley Quinn, that's immediately leaning towards clown stuff, but your name... Okay, I know this douche nozzle, Cluemaster, better at game show traps than this mess, and his civilian name is Arthur Brown. Not Alex Trebek!

Riddler (furious, near breaking point): All right, fuck you. I'm done. Batman, I'll talk, but get me away from her!

Batman (nodding knowingly): On it. She's been wanting to ask that for a while, and she earned it tonight.

Riddler (grumbling): At my expense? I hate heroes so much.

Spoiler (with mock sincerity): Did we hurt your feelings? What is the most obvious name for a puzzle-solving villain for 500, Alex?

Riddler tried to jump at Spoiler, but Batman held him back while smiling. Spoiler waved, smirking behind her mask, delighting in the chaos of the moment.

Earth 489 351: Quizlet

Stephanie "Stephie" Brown was born to Arthur and Crystal Brown, a GCPD officer and a nurse, respectively, in Gotham City. She enjoyed a life with her loving parents, blissfully unaware of the true state of Gotham. The city had been turned into a totalitarian hellscape by Owlman and his Talons. Arthur was one of the few willing to stand against him, but it wasn't to last. At the age of 14, her parents were mysteriously murdered, the crime chalked up to them being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stephie was well on her way to getting lost within the foster system when fate intervened.

Edward Nashton, a good friend of Arthur's and secretly the superhero Quizmaster, caught word of Stephie's orphaning. Acting quickly, the man adopted her as his own daughter. He and his wife, Evelyn Dent, took her in as their own, raising her just as they did their first daughter, Duela. And it was in the process of raising her that they discovered a terrible conspiracy.

Owlman orchestrated the deaths of her parents, intending to adopt her as his own and recruit her to be among his Talons. Angered by the revelation, Stephie sought revenge, and she decided the best way to achieve it was to emulate her adoptive parents. She donned a costume and began calling herself Quizlet, the sidekick to Quizmaster and his wife Three-Face.

Stephie currently operates as a member of Justice Underground, a small band of superheroes led by billionaire Alexander Luthor.

Notes

Though she is the adopted sister of Duela Dent, the two of them have never met. Shortly before the deaths of Arthur and Crystal, Duela became stranded in Earth 489, where she operates as a Teen Titan known as The Joker's Daughter.

She is one of the few people who is a hero on both Earth 489 and Earth 351.

Owlman still wants to recruit her among his Talons, and his allies are under orders to capture her, not kill, much to the chagrin of his trusted lieutenant, Owlgirl.

Trivia

Stephie is partially based on Stephie Nashton, the daughter of a heroic, antimatter universe counterpart of Riddler. Her being Evelyn and Duela Dent's adopted daughter and sister comes from an Earth 3 version of Riddler who was married to Evelyn and the stepfather to Duela.

The Vendillos are a German Family who moved to Italy, this is where Traz met his wife Veronica. They soon moved to England and had their family due to Traz needing to take care of a sick relative in London. He over took his cousins business, a Computer Security Corporation, and decided to expand into the US. Fanta was seven when this happened and was put into a private school to encourage her learning. During her teen years Fanta wanted to become an actress / model. Despite her father hating the idea as he wanted her to do better for herself such as become a doctor or lawyer. Fanta didn't really want that lifestyle, finding it to boring, the young girl just wanted to have fun. After graduating high school she went off to a school for acting & theater. Even incorporating dance, modeling, and singing as well. During her twenties Fanta became rather popular and well known as a model in Gotham. Even becoming the girlfriend of Bruce Wayne for a while before she'd left him due to gaining interest in Edward. She married Edward in her mid/late twenties.

Eldest son, Harvard Graduate, Doctor. Carter was born a year after Fanta & Edward married. He was the beloved child of both parents until his sister was born, becoming more loved by his mother which turned his relationship with his father & sister sour. Carter did everything to prove his smarts and wits. Only to be overshadowed by Kitty doing it because she was younger and always did it better..... He cut contact with his family after graduating high school, sometimes calling his mother but rather rarely. He now lives somewhere in California but its unknown where exactly. He visits Gotham to see Fanta and only her since she believed in him.

Eldest daughter, overachiever, minor villainess known as Echoline. Kitty was born when Carter turned four. She was always curious and loved to learn things. Reading at a young age, trying to play with objects that her father needed for one of his many projects, enjoying puzzles. All through out her school years she tried to become knowledgeable in ever subject. Often reading the whole textbook and then some before the school year even started. This set her up to skip a few grades, be in honors [ AP ] classes, and graduate early if she so wanted to. Once hitting high school she held herself back in order to be around her friends. As Echoline, she works under the Riddler, being a hacker and usually staying out of physical fights. Shes maybe had to get into a fight with the batfam a handful of times. Mostly because she went off to steal some blueprints or something cause she was getting money off a client she took on. Hey sometimes a girl wants some extra cash without asking mommy & daddy for it....so sometimes you gotta break into high tech lab and fight one of the Batfam members.

William is a rather shy and quiet child who has an interest in technology. He takes an extra computer class at Gotham Academy and will ask lots of questions about different machines as well as coding programs. Its not uncommon to locate Will in the library when he's out of school. He hasnt made friends yet but hopes to once hes more comfortable around his classmates.

Kamilla is a loud mouth, hyperactive, and loves to get in peoples personal space. Very friendly girl who tries to befriend almost all of her classmates, even the bullies. She loves art and fashion. Always trying to be trendy but put her own spin on it to make it her own. Her favorite thing to do is sit on the roof top of her parents home and try to see if she can catch Gotham's heroes patrolling the city.

E136: The Tragedy of Gotham

The death of Stephanie Brown, would herald a very, very dark period in Gotham’s history. Black Mask had wanted to send a message, and he had succeeded. None of this new generation’s vigilantes had actually died yet, and thus came as a shock to the entire city. And the seemingly unrelated death of Bruce Wayne’s foster daughter and daughter of Riddler’s top enforcer sent both men into a dark period.

The Masterminds, severely weakened by the arrest of Edward Nashton, would receive a boon in the escape of Cluemaster, who sought to kill Balck Mask, not out of love for his daughter, but instead a desire to repair his ‘rep’. But several other gangs affiliated with the Masterminds would also make a move, such as Two Face’s Second Street Gang, alongside other smaller outfits. Jokerz street crews had rallied to the various flags, and the Iceberg Lounge sold weapons to anyone with cash and hostile intentions. Gotham’s criminals were poised to tear each other apart, dragging the city with it. And the stricken and mourning Knights of Gotham were in no position to respond.

Gotham’s Dark Year would continue with the secret arrival of Bane, benefactor of the Neon Tribe. He intended to outplot the Riddler, outfight the Batman, and send a bigger message than Black Mask. Keeping attention off of him would prove easier than he anticipated, as the Gotham Knights would suffer another blow. Jason Todd, the Stray, Titan and Catwoman’s sidekick, would put a bullet through Black Mask’s head, and disappear. Further compounding matters, rumors began of the reappearance of Deacon Blackfire’s cult, who apparently robbed Black Mask’s eponymous mask from GCPD’s evidence locker.

Bane’s opening gambit was spectacular, organizing a mass breakout from Blackgate, unleashing the Riddler back into the city. And within the chaos, Bane would isolate and challenge Batman to a one-on-one duel. Batman would lose, and Bane would break him. But the tiring Gotham Knights would receive assistance from an unlikely source, the Secret Six, reformed members of Gotham’s more colorful criminal elements seeking to do good.

But no one noticed Blackfire’s plans until it was too late. Summoning otherworldly New God magic, assisted by sacrifice and symbols of hatred and madness, they would unleash destruction on a scale never seen before. And in the wake of the Cataclysm, Gotham would become a true No Man’s Land...

Made an alignment chart because of a fic by @diddle-riddle and @rzr_sk8 where a five year old Stephanie Brown describes Scarecrow as somewhere "between a crazy scientist, a doctor or a junkie who grows his own weed" and uhhh yeah that image was visceral and I learned how to use layers for this lol

Little update to my Alister/Amelda albeit this is a major spoiler for The Batman (2022) so assuming it’s not already in your filtered tags click “keep reading” only if you’ve seen it and/or don’t care about spoilers…that aren’t Stephanie Brown anyway *comedy drum sting*

Like it’s not perfect but this version of Edward Nashton’s backstory is basically what I was asking for! Basically emphasizing how privileged Bruce was/is what with how Edward grew up in an underfunded orphanage while Bruce was the focus of everyone’s attention. Like Alister/Amelda has a similar “sins of the father” motive (even weirdly including the fact that the man they had a primary grudge against was dead) ,but handled more competently since his anger has more focus for lack of a better word rather than Season 4 of Yu-Gi-Oh’s dollar store philosophy (again not that The Batman is perfect either in this regard but wouldn’t go as far as to use that phrasing for it) and while the movie does portray Thomas Wayne in a more complicated light than the version Riddler presented it wasn’t to the point of straight up undoing everything with Bruce having nothing to learn like with the Dartz reveal, he does in fact learn a lot.

Why is it my first post about this movie was in relation to arguably the worst (full anyway) Season of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters?…oh right Battison, I liked the movie overall. Imperfect but pretty damn good, tempted to say it’s my new favorite live action Batman even.

Earth 3 Riddler and Quizmaster/Enigma from the Antimatter earth are the same concept wise, being that they're both hero versions of the Riddler but they're so different in execution.

Earth 3 Riddler

- still goes by Riddler but is a hero

- wears spandex

- Is married to that Earths Two Face who is Evelyn Dent aka Three Face

- Is Duela Dents stepfather.

- They're dubbed the 'Riddler Family'

- Got killed by Owlman

Antimatter Riddler/Quizmaster/Enigma

- Was the leader of Justice Underground

- Had a wife named Sarah and two kids Tad and Stephanie/Stephie Nashton

- The Crime Syndicate killed his wife and son but he managed to save his daughter

- He saved her soul/spirit. She inhabits a sphere device

- Ultraman burned half his face off and he wears a question mark mask

Earth 3 Riddler only appeared in one comic while Quizmaster/Enigma was a main character for a 52 issue title so there's more on him. Also I'm biased, I just really like Enigma.
