The Man whose Will was Destiny.

i have so much to say about dartz ... filler villain or not, he was truly and genuinely an absolute menace. but the worst thing in all of that, is that he was correct on many points, but entirely mad at the same time.

Allow me to elaborate . . .

he's undeniably correct about a lot of things that he says, as he explains to Seto and Atem the past of Antlantis, and the way humans lived before. he mentions that the greed of humans, which grew after the Orichalcos stone allowed unimaginable technological advancement, was what drove them further into darkness. and he was correct.

⠀⠀⠀he mentions that humans have lost touch with their humanity over time due to their greed and the darkness of their heart, and that the modern world resembles Atlantis prior to it's ultimate fall, which is also correct. you wouldn't expect such a mad man to mention the cries of the earth, which suffers at the hand of those who were meant to be its guardians, and yet, he does. which is one thing that makes him fascinating to me. he is a man filled with sorrow and whose heart has been drowned in tragedy a long time ago, and yet . . he is undeniably cruel. the execution of his vision goes entirely against his word.

⠀⠀⠀he mentions that humans are monsters within, and that he was chosen to rebuild the world. yet, he uses those very emotions to cause self-destruction in a person, driving them further into their own darkness. otherwise, the orichalcos would have no effect, as made evident when rafael's soul isn't taken after he lost against yami.

⠀⠀⠀however, dartz tells rafael that overcoming one's own darkness is nothing but an illusion, and proves it by revealing to rafael that he was the one who had orchestrated all of their fates (including Amelda's and Valon's), which in turn sends rafael into a rage and costs him his soul.

⠀⠀⠀dartz's extensive knowledge is his biggest power. the depth of his knowledge regarding the human heart and its darkness allows him to manipulate its strings almost effortlessly. he hears the earth's cries and the spirits they used to work with, but his solution is to destroy both worlds. his will is destiny.

⠀⠀⠀he says people are not truly equal in all aspects, which he is also correct. morally, yes, they are equal. but some are born strong, talented, favored. others are born weak, rejected, forgotten. that is the injustice of the world, and the darkness of the human heart. he understands it deeply, and knows it more than anyone. while he laments the lack of humanity, he is nothing short of cruel. every single person, working for him or not, is seen as nothing but a pawn in his game and master plan. there is no telling if what he utters is truth or lie. he speaks utter insanity with utmost calmness and a smile on his face.

⠀⠀⠀he WANTS that the people who follow him worship him blindly without questioning, and he has not once failed with any of them, since he knows the human heart so well and how to manipulate its strings through emotions.

⠀⠀⠀during the final fight against Atem, every move was calculated in such a way that Atem would end up crushed, psychologically and emotionally. and whether we like it or not, dartz SUCCEEDED. wasn't it for the whole protagonist thing going on, dartz had basically talked Atem into giving up his soul, which is literally crazy.

⠀i also think his design is incredible. the color blue is a color of calm and gentleness, soothing to look at, which he all seems to exude. but this is all entirely false. being in his presence is like being caught in the webs of a spider. it is a false appearance of trustworthiness, but just like the god he means to revive, he is a snake.

YGO AU: Breaking the Seal 24

Chapter 24 Confrontation

Yugi finds the Pharaoh and they have a duel against each other

It didn't take long for Raphael to exit the city limits and find himself on a long stretch of highway. Out in the dessert it was mostly flat lands, a few boulders and shrubs that dotted the landscape. The sun was high as it beamed down on the asphalt making waves of heat ripple in the air. He knew this was the only path Yugi would use to get back to the campsite; as far the youth knew The Nameless Pharaoh had gone back to the campsite after the duel against Raphael. If Yugi was out for revenge that would be where he'd start; luckily for Raph Yugi's bike came with a tracker and he was following the signal. The blonde revved the engine of his bike and drove faster.

As the bike came over the horizon he could make out something…pink? In the distance. The closer he got the more he swore he could smell something sweet. Sugary…like marshmallow? It was a very overwhelming odour and not something he expected to smell out in the middle of the road. As he approached the large pink mound he slowed down to get a better look; it was a massive pile of what looked like pink marshmallow? Or was it gum? Whatever it was it wasn't the oddest thing he noticed.

No, that went to the group of men he saw who were trapped in this mass of pink goo. It looked like a bunch of ants that got stuck in a pile of chewing gum. Three of the men were trapped while another 3-4 men were trying to pull out an older gentleman who was stuck in a part of the giant woad of sweet smelling candy. They argued with each other as they pulled harder but ultimately they all end up slipping and falling back into the sticky goo again followed by more yelling.

As Raphael passed by he couldn't help but be taken aback by what he was witness to and asked himself

“Did Yugi do…this?”

//Yes, he did.//

A familiar voice now filled his head well his helmet. Dartz was observing through Raphael's Orichalcos stone and spoke to him through it.

“Master Dartz! I never realized his powers could do all this… Did the Orichalcos really grant him such power?”

//Yes, the powers he's been able to unlock so far seem to be growing at an incredible rate…He can effect the world around him merely by thought…He's playing with reality.//

“He's getting even stronger? But how?” Raphael asked surprised by his first answer.

//It's none of your concern, the only thing you need to do is find him and bring him back to me ASAP!And do not let him make physical contact with the Pharaoh no matter what! Do you understand?// Dartz snapped angerly.

“Yes Master, I'll bring him back immediately.” Raphael then revved his bike once more and continued down the high way.

The red string of faith; connection between two souls who are destined to always find each other. No matter where they are, no matter where they go, they will always find each other. Their paths will always meet. A cord that will never break for fate has entwined these two souls together forever.

Yugi could feel it, no matter how far apart they were their bond was ever lasting. The red string always tugging at his heart and leading him back to his other self…Even now this string was leading his heart allowing him to find his former partner. After all they'd gone though together; enemies they fought, the trials they faced, they always came out together, stronger, better.

But now that was no more. The Nameless Pharaoh betrayed him! Used him for his own ego and then tossed him to the side when he felt the time was right. Everything Yugi once thought of him was now thrown into question.

Was he really his friend? or did he just want him to believe that so he could take over his life? Steal his friends and family, wear his body like a living skin suit. All so he could pretend to be a hero, so he could pretend he was this perfect person that everyone should love and trust? That everyone would worship like the sun?

Yugi gripped the handle of his motorcycle as his anger boiled. He knew he was getting closer he could feel it, the tug of his heart pulling him towards the Nameless Pharaoh's own heart…if he really had one was up for debate in Yugi's mind.

He wasn't about to let this injustice stand; maybe in the past when he was powerless and had to relay on the Pharaoh to win his battles. But now he had his own power! A power he'd used to finally stop his evil once and for all! He was chosen by the Orichalcos after all, a soul pure enough to use it's power to help everyone. Yugi was going to achieve his true destiny but first he has to protect Joey and others from the God's wrath, and only thing that would satisfy the great god was a soul…a powerfully evil soul.

And Yugi was going to personally deliver it.

Yami and Tea had followed Ironheart and Chris across the large canyons, carefully making their way along a thin and narrow edge. Yami was curious as to where the old man was leading them; he said it would help him to finally find some closure for his loss, but what did he mean by this?

All he really wanted to do was apologize for what he'd done…beg Yugi for forgiveness and maybe..maybe he could save him? No he HAD to save him! It was his fault after all…he played that evil card and once he'd lost he should have lost his soul but no his partner, Yugi he stepped in and sacrificed himself for him.

Yugi who already at the brink of death still really gave himself away to protect him…his purity truly did know no bonds…Maybe Raphael was right. Without Yugi's light to keep him pure he could feel the darkness in his heart growing stronger. Timeasus rightfully abandoned him because of his betrayal. He beat Weevil to death on that train and if Tea wasn't there to hold him back what else would he have done?

Would he have hurt her too? Will he keep growing darker? Can he even keep his promises at this point? What kind of person was he now? Everyone was counting on him now more then ever but was he worthy of being a savour anymore?

Tea noticed the Pharaoh had grown silent; he normally was rather quiet when not dueling and was put into more domestic situations. But she could feel his guilt weight heavy on his shoulders, he didn't need to say it his body language was a dead give away to her. She tried to reach out to him now but in his hast she accidentally made a misstep and almost lost her footing as the rock below her gave way.

“AHH!” She yelled out.

“Tea!”

Yami turned quickly and grabbed her hand just in the nic of time to keep her on the rock face.

She nearly had a mini heart attack at that moment as she steadied herself again, Yami looked at her worried but she smiled to him to assure him she was alright. Chris had looked back and told them both to be careful. Both had let out a breath before continuing onward.

Finally they arrived at their destination it was a giant valley made of rock and stone, it looked like a stone graveyard. Ironheart explained it was “The Rock Wasteland” is where the fragments of souls from around the world gather including evil spirits. All gather here for they have unfinished business that was never resolved before their passing.

He warned him that once he entered he may not return alive, Yami didn't care though he just wanted to see his partner again…

Yami looked down at the gorge, in the center of the rock wasteland looked to be a gathering of rocks in a circle it looked like a summoning circle. Ironheart told him in this center is where his heart will be shown. Yami hoped it meant he could see his partner, Yugi was his heart after all. Without hesitation he slide down the embankment and started to make his way towards the center.

Tea tried to follow him but she told not to by both Ironheart and Chris.

“Beyond this point is den of evil spirits. You can't return unless you have an iron will. ”

“Den of evil spirits?” Tea repeated before watching Yami with a worried expression on her face.

As Yami entered the wasteland he could hear faint voices around him, he continued to walk as the clouds started to gather up above the blue sky now became dark and grey, causing the atmosphere to become heavier and darker. Thunder started to rumble as the wind picked up around him the closer he came to center circle.

Suddenly small white orbs started to appear around him, they flew around at alarming speeds the same voices he heard before becoming louder as the orbs continued to move about. Yami narrowed his eyes a bit as he continued to walk along, he wasn't going to be deterred by these evil spirits looking for revenge.

The orbs soon started to take the forms of his past foes; Bandit Kieth, The Rare Hunter, Arkana, and Yami Marik, and even Weevil who sneered at him. They appeared before him but he would not let their presence stop him. He simply walked past them with out a second thought, none of them where who he wanted to see after all.

Finally he reached the very center of the rock wasteland and stood before a platform; his mind thought back to Yugi's sacrifice the last time he saw his partner…

“Partner.” he said as he watched the flying orbs all begin collecting at the center.

“The embodiment of his heart will now appear.” Chris said as Tea and others all watched from up high.

The motorcycle stopped at the edge of the rock valley wasteland; Yugi dismounted his bike and removed his helmet. The wind began to pick up behind him as he watched the movement of dark clouds begin to collect in the center of the wasteland. He could see it from his vantage point; the center of the rock wasteland-the summoning circle below and even more importantly he could make out the shape of Yami Yugi entering the rock wasteland from the other side of the valley.

Yugi felt a strong pulse hit his heart, clutching his chest he knew he was being called…

“So you ARE here…” Yugi narrowed his eyes before he slide down the edge of the rock wall and made his way down into the valley.

As Yugi walked across the plain of rock and stone he could hear whispers…voices very clearly calling to him. Yugi stopped and looked around, seeing no one he continued on. He only had one thing on his mind and it was revenge…

Those same orbs appeared around Yugi as well; floating and flying around him he watched as they started to take form around him just like they did for the Nameless Pharaoh. But instead of past enemies he'd faced Yugi could see monsters…duel monsters!

He recognized a few of them; Celtic Guardian, Wing Dragon Guardian of the Fortress, Flame Swordsmen, etc. They looked posed to battle in some ancient war, he was a little confused as to why their spirits were here. What happened in this place? Then he saw a dragon…not any other dragon but the teal green dragon he and The Nameless Pharaoh released from the crystal prison not too long ago, Timeaus!

As he approached the dragon's unscared eye looked directly at him. He stepped back looking up at the dragon, frightened at what the dragon may do to him. But the beast simply watched him for a moment before it turned away from him closing it's only good eye. Almost like it was disappointed in him…

Yugi could feel it, Timeaus was ashamed of him.

“T-Timeaus…” Yugi tried to reach out for the beast but the moment his hand made contact with the ethereal spirit it vanished into a blossom of orbs.

Yugi's fingers trembled as he watched the beast disappear. His heart sank into his stomach as dread and fear started to pull at his heart. Now his mind started to spiral with questions: Why did Timeaus turn it's back on him? Did he do something wrong? Was…was it because he was infused with the Orichalcos now?

He wasn't the one who betrayed him! It was-

Brother…

Yugi froze in his tracks, a powerful bolt shot up his spine making him tremble.

You are here aren't you? Brother…

Yugi now found himself surrounded in darkness, he looked around and could see nothing but cold inky darkness. He could see his own breath like he'd walked into the chill of winter night. It felt so familiar this darkness this cold, this feeling…

He could hear a monstrous chuckle travel all round him now, his guard was now fully up as something swept past him quickly. Even in this inked darkness Yugi could feel it the presence of something evil and ancient dwell here.

“W-Who are you? Show yourself!” Yugi shouted in defiance trying to sound tough to this shape, this spectre but the fear still lingered in his voice making the entity chuckle again.

You have found him after all this time… a worthy vessel… much like my own.

Just as Yugi was about to ask what this being meant, he could just make out a figure that materialized before him. Still shrouded in darkness just barely able to make out any features but it did have some; the figure looked human but it had horns? Two sets of horns one set pointed straight up while the second set curled around and downwards almost like a rams horns. It seemed like it was wearing a long over coat…a red? no black? It was so hard to tell.

There was a set of black dragon like wings with a matching long black prehensile tail at the back swinging back and forth slowly. Upon it's head it had a mane of silver-white hair spiky and loose that ran down just below the top of it's shoulders. Red glowing eyes with what looked like a scar below the left eye, a wide toothy smile upon it's month.

“…Who are you…”

Yugi couldn't put his finger on it but this figure…this creature. He felt like he knew who this was. He knew what this darkness was and where he first felt it. Battle City; the night on the airship when he couldn't sleep and he felt some kind of presence in Nameless Pharaoh's soul room…They never did investigate it but this darkness this entity…it carried the same aura.

“…Vessel?” that word sparked Yugi's anger snapping him out of his thought.

“I don't know who or what you are but I am NO ONE'S vessel! Not anymore!”

The entity let out yet another laugh that echoed all around Yugi, it's mocking tone stabbing into Yugi's heart like a knife. This only encouraged his rage making him grit his teeth and clench his fists tightly.

Still so blind to the truth little one? You are nothing more then a vessel and that is all you will ever be…

The Orichalcos stones started to glow as Yugi felt his rage bubble up in his mind, the seal now appearing on his forehead as darkness spilled out from his mouth like a smoke from a dragon's firey breath.

“You think I'm just some vessel? I'll show you my real power!”

Again the mocking laughter returned and surrounded Yugi on all sides, an endless corus that only grew stronger causing Yugi's heart to beat harder and faster. Like a tea kettle blowing off steam he was at his breaking point and let out a powerful yell- no it was a roar.

The roar of a beast…with a blinding red flash everything was gone…vanished and destroyed leaving only Yugi in it's wake.

Burning white light burned Yugi's eyes as in an instant he was back in the rock valley again. Panting and shaking Yugi looked around trying to collected himself, he could see he was all alone again nothing but the sound of the wind and rolling thunder from the clouds above.

What on earth was all of that! Who was that entity? Why was it mocking him?

“Brother…”

Yugi whenced as he heard the voice from his memory…or was it in his head? His head was throbbing as his heart beat was overwhelming.

What was going on!?

The crash of thunder finally snapped him out of his spiral and allowed him to regain focus. What he came here for, who he was after it all came back to him one more.

“The Pharaoh.”

He shook his head as the burning rage sparked in his heart once more. The faint outline of the Orichalcos ring warmed his forehead and made his eyes flash with green.

He needed to focus! He had to find the pharaoh!

“I'll face you! I'll defeat you! I'll destroy you…”

Yugi chanted to himself as the Orichalcos symbol glowed on his forehead Yugi's body started to morph. Each step he'd grew a bit taller his arms and legs stretching longer. His chest growing wider, face becoming sharper and more mature, once again he was an adult.

The orbs started to appear again almost acting like a guiding light trail for him to follow. The closer he came to center of the wasteland the harder his heart became. the thought of facing his old partner set his mind a light in fury narrowing his eyes.

“I DONT NEED YOU!”

The echo of his hateful words burned in Yugi's heart, fuelling his hatred deeper then ever.

Finally he reached the very center of the summoning circle just as the orbs started to collect in the center he saw him…

The Nameless Pharaoh had appeared.

As Yami watched the orbs collect they began to take shape before suddenly they all turned into a bright light then vanished without a trace. This left Yami confused and thinking to himself; wasn't this where his partner should be? What had happened? Where was-

“Nameless Pharaoh!”

Yami froze. He recognized that voice…

“Partner?” He said sheepishly looking around before his eyes fixated on a form standing on the other side of the platform.

A lone figure stood across from him as he started become clearer; his features coming more detailed he could make out his hair shape, exactly like his own. Yami couldn't believe it!

“Pa-Partner…” His voice was weak and trembling. But now he finally realized what was wrong with this picture…this couldn't be Yugi could it? He was so…tall.

“Yugi… is it really you?”

Yugi on the other hand wasn't as pleased to face his former partner, crossing his arms he glared down at the form of the smaller teen. It was odd to see him like this; Yugi was never tall in his life but right now he was and to see just how minuscule his body was compared to his now adult body was odd. But he let that feeling slide and became replaced with anger, since he did find who he was looking for finally.

“In the flesh…or should I say spirit?” Yugi rubbed his chin for a moment before glaring down at the Nameless Pharaoh. “I mean you do have my body after all…” he spat out that last sentence with a ting of disgust.

Yami was more confused then ever; how could this be his partner? Didn't Ironheart tell him he'd find Yugi here, but this wasn't Yugi…was it? The shock finally wore off once he realized just how different Yugi looked. No longer did he look like a younger version of himself but an adult man wearing some kind of outfit that matched what the bikers, Doma's henchmen were wearing…

“Wait!” Yami yelled out suddenly and pointed to the collar “That symbol! It can't be!”

His heart froze instantly once he recognized the giant amulet that hung from Yugi's new collar carried the symbol of the Orichalcos. Yami stood back his eyes widened in dread as a cold sweat ran down the side of his face.

Yugi on the other hand started to grin as he let out a soft chuckle.

“Well well well looks like you finally pieced things together have you? Bravo Pharaoh…” Yugi clapped his hands slowly in jest.

“Yugi… whats going on? What happened to you?!”

“What happened to me? Have you really forgotten that quickly?! You stole my body!”

“What are you- No! I never stole your body!”

“Really? Because that sure looks like my body from where I'm standing.” Yugi spat crossing his arms.

“Yugi listen to me! You're under the Orichalcos' control! You have to-”

“You don't get to tell me what to do anymore!” Yugi's voice boomed throughout the valley as a crash of thunder echoed behind him.

Yami's eyes widened again as he looked into Yugi's eyes and could see nothing but contempt glaring down into his very person. He'd never seen his partner look this way… not since that morning when he-

“It's time we settled the score once and for all Nameless Pharaoh!” Yugi yelled out holding up his arm with a chaos duel disk attached to it.

Meanwhile Tea, Ironheart and Chris watched from above as Yugi and Yami argued; Tea was just as confused as Yami about what was going on.

“What is happening? That can't be Yugi! Who is that?!” she looked to the older man who calmly answered her.

“That is your friend, but his soul has fallen to the power and influence of the Orichalcos.”

“What?! No! Yugi would never do that he-”

The young girl, Chris now answered

“He has joined the side of DOMA and has come seeking revenge against the Nameless Pharaoh…unless the Pharaoh can conquer the darkness in his heart, the vengeance his other half seeks will never be quenched.”

“Wait, is he going to fight himself?” Tea looked between the two who both kept their eyes fixed upon the two former partners.

Ironheart nodded.

“It is a battle between not only the Nameless Pharaoh and his partner but he will also face his own heart…”

“Yugi please! I need you to listen to me! I know you're upset with me and I'm upset with myself! But you are being used! Don't you remember what happened at Industrial Illusions!? DOMA is tricking you right now, they're forcing you to duel like when you and Joey duelled yesterday!”

“I'm not interested in hearing about your pity party Pharaoh! I'm here for one reason and one reason only! To take your soul and right an injustice!”

“Yugi! I'm not your enemy! I'm trying to help you!”

“Help me!? You're the soul reason I got captured in the first place! But then again maybe I should thank you…if you didn't show me your true colours I 'd still be blindly following you like a pathetic child…idolizing a selfish parasite….”

Yami's heart sank when he heard that word…parasite…was that all he really was?

“You wanna help me? Then duel me! I'm gonna defeat you and save the world at the same time! By taking your soul I'll feed the Great Leviathan and bring a new age! A world were people like you don't exist! Not only that I'll finally prove to everyone I'm more then just your vessel!”

“Yugi…” Was all Yami could let out as he reluctantly activated his own duel disk and set his deck in the holder.

Yugi did the same pulling out his new deck and inserting it into the holder before drawing five cards.

“Let's duel!”

hi yeah piggybacking off of my season 4 yugioh post. what the fuck were they feeding the writers.

the animation was inconsistent and often times bad, the plot as a whole was painfully mediocre, and the beginning and end were both slop. but the characterization? best in the series. INSANE. every character was absolutely fucking on point the moment the actual premise of the leviathan and atlantis is not being focused on. mai valentine alone couldve carried this entire season. that’s not even talking about rex and weevil gaining major roles and actually having their characters explored (🤯🤯). not to mention the INSAAAAANE decision to practically role reverse joey n yami. yami being the hotheaded one to not think things through, the one to mess up and put people in danger, the one who has to learn a major lesson. meanwhile joey was out here showing compassion to mai and even rex of all people and making suggestions and plans and keeping levelheaded. WHAT WERE THE WRITERS EATING
