I have some thoughts, but I want to say them in a way that isn't aggressive or patronizing.
obviously a lot of jokes and discourse are newly on the table in the modern dan & phil era, especially in comparison to 2013.
i think the main principle is to follow their lead. ten years ago, they were pretty clearly setting boundaries for things they Didn't Want To Talk About (sexuality, relationships). Boundaries that people (fans, coworkers, interviewers) crossed over and over. It's worth noting I'm not really talking about fanfiction here—banning rpf is futile, and, lest you forget Dan Howell said he has read youtuber rpf for fun—I'm talking about real life speculation. I believe that's what hurt them.
in the modern era, let's learn from that (probably kinda traumatic) time and follow their lead. they're both openly gay—gay discourse is fine! They're pretty ambiguous about their relationship (see: "are we gay? did we fuck?" quote from dystopia daily's 'Dan and Phil Tell the Truth' video), so jokes of that caliber are ok (imo).
On the other hand... Invasions of privacy? Trying to "prove" things about their personal lives that they've repeatedly stated they don't want to elaborate on? Especially posting that "proof" to public websites. Bringing up past content, posts, etc, that they clearly still don't want to acknowlege? Let's refrain.
Obviously dnp have come to terms with a lot of this stuff existing on the internet... then again, they didn't exactly have a choice. but here's my thoughts: tumblr is a public website, literally anyone can make an account. Dan and Phil want to get into the mainstream via acting/writing projects. If they get popular enough, mainstream media outlets will dig, and some of the personal old stuff is not hard to find... and even easier to look for if people are talking about it all the time. And I would hate, despise even, to see some detached popular media outlet make some "tea" article containing personal stuff from dnp's past that they've tried to move on from/delete. So just... keep in mind plz. I don't want to make them hurt/sad again.
tl;dr: if you're older in the fandom, let's set a good example for any incoming or younger ppl and meet dnp where they're at with the jokes & content, and avoid invasions of privacy!

It dawns on me that the journey to the west took 5,040 days exactly, right, and while the book goes from tribulation to tribulation, there were still only 81 of those. And they were missing one when they got there. And some of the tribulations Tripitaka went through happened before the journey even started.
So, even being generous and saying that most of the tribulations that occurred during the actual journey could be said to have taken a few days to handle each, that's still only about 10% of the journey. A tribulation was anything that happened that put Tripitaka in danger or presented any sort of obstacle to him. Anything even remotely exciting would have fallen into that ~10%, and nothing else could have happened, because otherwise they wouldn't have gotten west one moderate inconvenience and/or major trauma short of the prize. (I mean, unless the thing that happened managed to not involve Tripitaka at all in any way, but that's very hard to do when you are all attached at the hip.)
Holy cow they really were just walking. ALL THAT TIME. No wonder Zhu Bajie was stirring the pot at any given opportunity. It was literally the only thing to do.
#jttw personal#how did they not kill each other#I was thinking about this while still picking at chapter 27#tripitaka was super gullible in that chapter in a sort of inexcusable way but also#it sooooort of makes sense when you think like#statistically#across the whole journey they could have gone moooonths between demons#years even#and suddenly sun wukong's claiming to have killed 3 (they didn't know it was the same demon) in a row in one morning?#even if tripitaka HAD believed him (or just harbored doubts) after the first one how likely was it the second was the case? or the THIRD?#obviously the evidence was in his face but couple the idea that their encounters with demons were actually SUPER rare#with the fact that tripitaka still had major trust issues with sun wukong from the fact he HAD trusted sun wukong previously#only to have that trust pretty solidly broken#and tripitaka's probably operating on a level of 'fool me once' hyper-vigilance against him that actually makes zhu bajie seem reasonable#I mean who are you going to trust? you and your own shitty judgement when you've already been wrong about the guy once before?#or the DEMON who probably knows more about DEMON MAGIC than you?#tripitaka's got TWO expert consults telling him two wildly opposing things but only ONE of them's seriously burned him in the past#(while the third expert consult and tie-breaker is notably abstaining. gdit sha wujing.)#anyway the characterization here is actually really good#tripitaka doesn't know the story framing - WE know something's up because otherwise we wouldn't have a story about it -#but tripitaka doesn't realize he's in a book#and I'm just saying tripitaka is being less foolish than the meta knowledge of being The Reader makes him seem#still a total brat though#he's definitely letting his own pride and hurt (and like...trauma) bias him against sun wukong unfairly#which is something he needs to work on and IS something that he pays for#(even with the bandits: expecting sun wukong to behave to tripitaka's standards of morality prior to TEACHING him those standards)#(wasn't fair. but also when he *tried* to address it sun wukong got angry and took off. and then tried to kill him. so.)#it's just interesting and whoever told this story originally was clearly putting a lot of thought into what it would be like#to actually be in these guys' shoes. Like ugh. HOW is this book so good?

Oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDD would y’all PLEASE STFU ABOUT ~MISCHARACTERIZING~ FEMALE CHARACTERS.
For FIVE FUCKING MINUTESSSSS
It’s not fucking misogyny to dislike a fucking fictional female character. Stop putting it into your head that people who don’t like female characters would excuse male characters for the same things they don’t like about them. Stop putting it into your head that a person will only dislike a female character because they think she’s irrational. Stop fucking making straw-men to get angry about.
I remember vividly when the rhetoric behind well written female characters, advice given to male writers, was simply to just. Write them as people. Write them as they would any male character.
AND YET. NOW Y’ALL WANT TO ACT AS THOUGH ITS CRIMINAL TO DISLIKE WELL WRITTEN, MULTIFACETED CHARACTERS … BECAUSE THEY HAVE BREASTS AND A VAGINA.
Fuck off. Just. Fuck all the way off.

February Prompts Day 15 Statistically
AO3
“How improbable are you,” she coos to her newborn daughter, “a child conceived two hundred years in the past. I worried, my darling Brianna, that I would lose you on the way through. That you would be lost in the stones. But they took the ruby in your grandfather’s ring instead.”

She choke laughs. “It was the ring your daddy, not the man who has introduced himself to you as such, no your real daddy, it was the ring he placed on my finger when we were wed. In his haste, he forgot to get one.

He took it off his own finger and placed it on mine. He did it again when he prepared to send me and you, away from him and the coming war.”

She blinks her tears away. This is a wonderful day! Their child is here.

“What are the odds Brianna Ellen, the statistical probability that you would make it here, to be born so far away from when you were started?” another chuckle, “I imagine they are astronomical.”

What nobody tells you is that the real experience of growing up in latinoamerica is that, at some point in your life, you knew someone who was extremely invested in the Legacy of Kain series.

when I drew this comic 3 years ago I had NO idea how far it would reach. I'm happy to finally share a corrected version with proper abbreviations, and even MORE state names of indigenous origin ♥️
however, the goal of this comic was to inspire people to do your OWN research on indigenous history. To question everything we have been taught, and everything that has been pointedly left out. This erasure, this “forgetting”, of history is not just of the past… it is happening now. - Across so-called Canada, the US, and US-occupied islands, native women are victims of murder at 10-12x the rate of non-native people, and are the most likely to go missing without being searched for by the law. - Native reservations have the highest rates of poverty in the US, with over HALF of tribal homes with no access to clean water (with more joining this list by the year) - Native people are 6-10x more likely to be unhoused than the rest of the population, and native teens suffer suicide rates higher than any other demographic. This list of modern day genocide goes on (thank you for compiling @theindigenousanarchist <3) and yet take a look at those environmental stats!
Native people manage to do SO much for the planet as a whole - thanklessly - and with all this stacked against them. Don't even get me started on kin fighting in south america. Could you imagine if there was help? #landback is resistance to genocide, and it is the key to saving our warming earth.
So look into it and the other hashtags, cuz a cartoon goose ain't a substitute for a proper education. Love to my grandparents who always kept a map of tribal territories of turtle island on their wall, to speaking on our Tsalagi & Saponi heritage. Love & solidarity forever, happy research, and happy #indigenouspeoplesday
LANDBACK.ORG
(Also, if you care to support the artist, I'm publishing a book ! and writing another - a fantastical afroindigenous graphic novel - that I post exclusively about with tons of other art on my patreon.)

Apart from everything else in this thread I just want to say that this here:
Being LGBT doesn’t make you special, and the entire goal of the community should be reinforcing that statement. We don’t want to be seen as different and special.
This makes me sad. Because being LGBTQ+, being any variety of sexual orientation, sex, or gender minority, it does make you special. Not in the "I deserve extra rights and the ability to make christians do my bidding" way that conservatives talk about but. It is special. You are special.
I believe that one day, LGBTQ+ people will no longer face oppression. I don't know if I will see that liberation come in my lifetime, but I believe someday it will happen. And on that day, we will still matter.
Whatever you call it, whether it be queerness or something else, it will still be an important part of the human story. Even when it is no longer demonized or discriminated against, it will still tell us important things about who human beings are and what being human is.
It makes me sad that someone would see assimilation as the ultimate goal of the movement. As though the glorious end point of all of this is for our community to evaporate into vapor. As though our community is not beautiful. As though the things that make people different are not all beautiful. As though we are not part of the glorious, varied tapestry that is the human experience.
As though our experiences and the perspectives that come with them are not valuable.
I don't know the person who said that bit I quoted, and I don't want to make them feel bad or wrong for how they view their own identity. But my god did that ever make me sad.
Here’s the thing about LGBT+ vs. Queer.
I’m ace, nonbinary, and demiromantic. With LGBT+ I’m included in the plus. And I’m happy to be included! Indeed, folks pointedly using LGBT without the plus makes my hackles raise.
But. I am sick of being in the fucking plus sign like an afterthought.
And no, adding more to the alphabet soup doesn’t help that feeling. There’s a limit to what human brains can cram in. I don’t think it’s reasonable to make folks say an increasingly long acronym every time they mention the community. I appreciate the effort, but you’re always going to either leave someone out or cram them into the miscellaneous field the plus sign represents.
With Queer I’m just there, alongside my queer siblings. The details may be different, but I’m just as queer as a cis allo gay man or a trans allo straight woman or a genderfuck individual.
We already tried to meet folks who don’t like queer as a word halfway with MOGAI. Marginalized Orientations, Gender Alignment, and Intersex. It’s inclusive without using the Dreaded Q-Word. Surely, if the objection was to “queer” as a Terribly Traumatizing Word (just like, oh, every other word used for us: “gay” was the slur of choice where I was growing up), MOGAI would be the perfect solution, yes?
And yet, that was thrown back into our faces and turned into an insult. So, at that point, I said fuck it and fuck you. I’m queer, and if its inclusivity makes you mad, good.
