Maybe a better analogy for exploitative social classes would be "vulture" as opposed to "parasite"? Though that's less ableist and more unfair to birbs that play an important ecological role and don't deserve the reputation they get.
idk man, do landlords form a coherent class these days? a landlord can be anybody from somebody who rents out the condo they inherited from their dead mom to an investor in a giant national property chain like Deutsche Wohnen. there are exploitative jobs, maybe, but this smacks of the urge to create a coherent category of Bad People Whomst If We Only Got Rid Of, Everything Would Be Better, which I think is kinda BS.
objectively, a lot of landlords are not very good at their jobs (this is why the phrase "the landlord special" has entered the lexicon) and some are really exploitative. but so are a lot of office managers. landlords being intrinsically tainted by sin doesn't seem like the problm. and if you think there are too many people renting out property vs owning it, and this contributes to the lack of housing, or if you think real estate speculation is a drag on the economy, there are plenty of policy levers to choose from to correct for this.
historically a lot of the animus directed at landlords came from the fact that "landlord" usually meant a literal lord of some description, like somebody who owned a vast estate with tenant farmers who acquired that wealth over generations of feudal conquest and peasant-oppression. and that's pretty shitty! but even then, the remedy for that can be anodyne and unsexy policy--big inheritance taxes dismantled most of the large landed estates in the british isles over the course of the 20th century, for instance. small time modern landlords, however lazy or exploitative, or even big evil property investment companies, strike me as fundamentally different animals. like, are they great for the economy? maybe not! but there are a lot of jobs that are not great for the economy that we don't waste time coming up with new ways of hating, and there more productive uses of our energy to correct these problems than figuring out which gross animal to compare them to.
#never really gotten on the landlord hate train#i rent and honestly it's fine#renter protections are better here than they are in the states which helps#but 'landlords are parasites/vultures' just doesn't strike me as useful rhetoric#you're gonna get a lot more traction#talking about specific problems and ways you want to address them#it's not clear to me how you would abolish 'landlords' entirely#unless you very strongly circumscribed property rights#and made renting actually illegal#which seems impractical!#like that raises a ton of questions about implementation#when you could just try more tried and true policies#like a georgist land tax#or viennese style social housing#or taxes on real estate speculation#or a long list of other policies

#i am at my fucking limit lol#i need to leave this fucking town and this fucking state the very second i can nail down both a car and a remote job#the fucking ''''affordable'''' housing company i rent from has once again opted to start harassing us#and we're once again gonna have to be in a fucking fight with landlords who think that we're making too much money to live in a $1200 apt#and want us to pay $2000 a month for this rathole we live in despite taxes and deductions literally absorbing a quarter of our earnings#so they want to absorb half of what we have left when ive yet to be able to even afford a car that isn't a fucking beater destined for scrap#at least not without using p much all of my current life savings in the process#so we have to instead get around by buses that refuse to actually show up take us on huge detours for no reason have lead feet that-#-exacerbate my chronic pain and - oh! how could i forget? is also horrifically mismanaged to the point where they're now canceling entire-#-bus routes including the one i take to work and ALSO GOES TO THE AIRPORT lol#and nothing will fucking change about the highway robbery rent hikes bc the entire state legislature is filled with and bought by-#-landlords NIMBYs and property management firms.#that's not even getting into the fact that ive got too many traumatic memories too many enemies and not enough good things to show for it#the only thing I've got in this fucking town is my partner bc not even our home can be considered safe anymore.#i want to take them and the home we dream of and get the fuck out bc i can't keep doing this shit#and i can't even fucking talk to them about this bc they need me to be the strong one for once#im so tired. i feel like im in danger even though i know we'd be able to tank the hit to our finances. but i would like to escape.#i know of a city in ny where our $1200 rent is considered the norm. there's also so much more to do within reach that isn't just. drinking.#i wanna go there. i may have had a desire to live there since our vacation there this past March.#but for now im stuck here dreaming of the future and fighting off desperation and despair in the present#this breakdown brought to you by: the bus purposely avoiding my stop this morning after learning my landlord wants to ruin us again#vent

How many houses does Taylor own?
Idk dude I only know the obvious ones. 4 dwellings of some kind (houses/apartments) that she has made public. but would not surprise me if she owned more property for tax or investment purposes. A likely thing for rich people to do!
#not particularly nefarious either just like#rich people be hiding their money in land in low property tax states or luxury homes

Sunday October 13, 2024 - Tim Walz
The Walz family along side, the Cheney family, and the Buttigieg family campaigned together starting the day off in Pete Buttigieg's hometown of South Bend for Church Services. The 'official' schedule of the events
South Bend, IN Event Location: Cathedral of Saint James Episcopal church Event Type: Sunday Worship Services Event Time: 8:00 - 12:00 ET *The group visited the church that the Pete and Chasten Buttigieg were married in. This wasn't just important to the campaign to make sure they visited an inclusive church for Sunday worship services, but also important to Tim and Gwen Walz as they are getting to know the Buttigieg family well. After the event concluded, pete gave the campaign a short tour of South Bend. Before the group had a private lunch.
Indianapolis, IN Event Location: Gainbridge Fieldhouse Event Type: Campaign Rally Event Time: 18:00 - 21:00 *Full-text of this speech will be released shortly.

Negotiations continue to happen in secret across the country, all without the public seeing or hearing about it
This is not going to shock anyone. Sports owners hate when their plans are released and looked at intensively by anyone. Have you ever tried to read one of them? Try taking a look at the “Potomac Yard Economic and Fiscal Impact Study” from the failed Capitals/Wizards to Alexandria, Virginia proposal. The agreements are nearly impossible to read and understand unless you read these types of…

In the spirit of reform nurtured during the war, Lewis Silkin attempted to tax at 100% the development value created when planning permission was granted.
Sorry to the otherwise-excellent Attlee government but this is like. The nightmare version of Land Value Tax that you introduce to kill the concept of property development. Gross.
#tbc they were thinking that development would be centrally planned and state-driven on a mass scale#and it was#but as a tax this is vile#the property boom
