he awakens with a splutter, memories a vacuum before rushing in all at once. the slashing claws of harpies, their siren's call ineffective on him but a melody that rang alarm for his brother. a clarity rune is still imprinted on his collarbone but fading fast. the clamour of feathers in an attempt to harass and distract is not sufficient to erase the searing pain of deep rooted talons in his stomach, seeking his liver, wishing to pry his entrails from his abdomen until he were little more than viscera for the vultures to scavenge from.

why isn't he ?

intuitively his palm reaches for the phantom lesion, recalling its depth ( far too severe a gouge for even his half - nephilim tinged blood to heal alone ) and finds little more than a mottled ridge, a small mountain range of bumps where a canyon should be. scars, scabs, stitches ? his head is too heavy and aching to discern the details.
