Steve Rogers Very Rare Pairs

One of my favorite romanogers writers has recently started a Steve/Frigga fic that I absolutely adore, so I thought I would put together a list of some of my other very rare pair faves.

Untitled Steve Rogers/Jason Wilkes story - there's nothing for this couple on Ao3, but this very fun ficlet by @starstruckmyths made me fall in love with the ship.

As we know Steve inspires loyalty and respect, even in villains! I really feel Erik would like Steve, both because Steve knows what the war was like, knows what it's like to be discriminated against and he's enhanced too, fighting against oppressive laws. Was watching The Dark World and my brain couldn't stop imagining Steve there. I think he'd love the place (Odin not so much, not after he calls Steve a goat anyway like he did with Jane😭).

And this is 300 ideas at once but: Asgard is way bigger than I thought, with entire mountains and a whole SEA. It has valleys and lakes and forests and so much!! So: fantasy creature!Steve living in the forest/sea/lake of Asgard.

Or an AU where Steve has the Aether instead of Jane.

Or a Viking-kinda AU where Steve is an offer for "the gods". Usually Thor just rescues these offers and brings them elsewhere, but he can't keep his eyes off this one.

Heimdall sees Steve in the ice and decides he needs to be rescued (maybe Frigga had a vision👀)

THOR/Creature Steve:

 I’ve seen SUCH LOVELY fanart of mer!Steve, and that could work so well! Like, young Thor and Loki being out exploring and happening upon a huge lake, meeting up and close with mer!Steve who’s sunbathing on a rock. And remember, Thor is a jock-with-a-very-nerdy-side-that-made-him-want-to-learn-Groot, so he must be like ‘How cool! I’ve never seen a mermaid!’ and maybe tries to approach him.

(Steve does not appreciate being caught unaware however, and ends up almost drowning the future King of Asgard. Seriously, Loki pulls the ‘Do you know who our father is’ card after he watches Thor struggle for a little while because he’s still Loki after all).

Or maybe, for a more Swan Lake-y vibe, an evil wizard (or Hela, even) cursed Steve and turned him into a creature Thor almost ends up taking out while hunting.

(kinda torn between having Steve be a pretty prey creature like a deer, which means he’d have had to survive all the predators/hunters for YEARS, or like a feared, dangerous beast like a blingesnipe so he couldn’t really ask for help because he’s a beast everybody runs from). Anyway, of course true love’s kiss will fix everything.

TDW AU

A Matter of Timing  does a fantastic job exploring what would’ve happened if Steve accidentally absorbed the Aether instead of Jane. Like, there’s fancy balls and Asgardian royalty and pining, I can’t really picture anything BUT that. It is SO GOOD.

CATFA AU

HDFJSKDJ THIS ONE IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVE SCENARIO. Like, it’s a what if I love so much to think about. The Asgardians/Odin would have a pretty believable reason for wanting him, assuming the Tesseract somehow ends up in space instead of somewhere deep into the Atlantic. Ofc there would be lots of tension because “humans playing with tech they don’t understand”, yada yada.

Or, he could end up anywhere. Or, Knowhere, you know. And oh, wouldn’t the Collector love to have Steve, an enhanced human being from Earth, in his collection? Imagine Thor walking in for a business talk with Tivan and finding absolute mayhem after Steve manages to break free most of the creatures in Tivan’s possession. 

...Anyway, that’s how he ends up in Asgard, with Carina (because she deserves to be free as well) and Cosmo (because, doggo!) in tow. Odin’s probably not too happy that he potentially lost a business partner. 

(but god, I would feel terrible for that Steve. Literally can’t catch a break. One moment’s fighting a red nazi skull and the next he’s up in space with a weird dude and a fuchsia colored lady oogling him)

Oh and lmao, I love the idea of Heimdall routinely having to alert Odin or Thor that “the humans are at it again with the human sacrifices, so please go down and save this person or goat or whatever”.  Maybe Steve has noone to go back to or has to start over a new life and Thor kinda feels for this little guy so he keeps tabs on him...

Anyway, at one point someone asked them all to raise their hands if they prefer Steve bearded or not bearded and Paul Rudd raised his hand for each option. XD

So, basically, yes, we were robbed.

Hey, do you have any headcannons on Steve and Wanda's relationship. I see him as a big brother father figure, even though he is closer to her age than most of the other avengers.

actually @starstruckmyths had some wonderful headcanons this morning ab wanda and her powers if you wanna hop in with like,,, those, but no pressure of course!

yeah, they’re actually,..,,,.., both the babies of the group, and honestly, maybe that’s why steve sees her and takes her under his wing so fast. he knows what it’s like to lose your whole family and everyone you love in a few fell swoops, he knows what it’s like to take responsibilities on your shoulders, willingly but under tough circumstances, he knows what the experimentation is like and war and pain and to have it all happen so young? he feels for her

i imagine they weren’t suuuper close at first, but one night in the compound, steve can’t really sleep but can he ever? so he wanders out to the common room and wanda’s up watching tv sitcoms? and he sort of just wordlessly grabs them some water from the fridge (maybe apple juice for himself, but my stevie apple juice headcanons are a whole... other post) and sits next to her

they don’t really talk, just sort of enjoy the quiet of the night together, watching the tv, but not really... absorbing it.  somehow they start talking and it comes out that wanda’s only 20, which surprises steve a bit, though he’d known she was very young. it seems to surprise wanda more, that he is only 28. and that he got the serum when he was 23

“were you scared?” she asks. “when they gave you the serum?”

and steve can read people better than he’s often given credit for. he knows about the experimentation done on her brother and her. he knows that right now, she’s asking to be seen 

“a little,” he says. it’s an echo of another conversation. 

“did it hurt?”

“a little...”

he continues, “were you scared?”

wanda shrugs. “a little,” she fiddles with her fingers. “i think i was more... lost than scared.”

steve can understand that. “i’m sorry,” he says. “that must have been hard.”

wanda looks at him then, really looks. and there’s something in her eyes that makes steve look away, suddenly nervous. she’s still looking at him 

“I’m sorry,” she says and it’s said with so much conviction; so much empathy, that steve looks back. “you’re... still lost yourself, aren’t you? has anyone noticed? are you still hurting?”

and it’s at that point that steve remembers she can sense things-- other people’s emotions-- viscerally. he can’t hide this. not from her

he... is he lost? is he still hurting? there’s moments that he feels like his chest is being cracked open and he’s screaming and screaming and no one can hear. but it’s... getting better. he has sammy now. and nat and him have long since been close, and bucky’s out there... somewhere, though that’s an entirely other pain that he still has yet to really address

he fiddles with his own fingers now, a wry smile on his face. he looks at her. 

“a little.”

she smiles faintly, amused, but worried. a laugh track plays on the tv. they both look at the screen. 

a few minutes later, she scoots over and curls into him and a warmth he hadn’t known he needed flows through him. for a blessed moment, he feels heard.

I always read your tags because I know they often have lil jokes and stuff and it makes me feel like an initiated but sometimes you say batcrazy stuff that makes me run to your inbox like a flaming crocodile is chasing me - Steve with an OnlyFans??? I mean yeah I bet if HE got an OnlyFans he could pay the bill with it, his nudes must be legendary, but like W H A T

hrfjdkejrf I mean, realistically speaking, I don’t see in-canon Steve going for the whole nude photoshoot route to raise money for himself. 

But if it’s for charity? To raise awareness for something? I mean, he’s not one to back down from a challenge, is he? 

Or maybe they’re doing a press conference and they’ve moved onto the sillier questions, when a journalist asks Natasha if she’d be willing to do open an OnlyFans or like, do a sexy calendar for charity. 

Steve then clenches his jaw and tries, he tries not to say anything or verbally tear that sleazy journalist a new one, so instead he acts like the answer was directed at him and says “Oh, absolutely. Get me a good photographer and we can start shooting tomorrow”. Bruce has a coughing fit. T0ny who was rocking on his chair falls on his ass. Sam pretends to drop his pen and disappears behind the table. The whole PR team probably books a 2hr massage session.

So then #SteveRogersOnlyFans starts trending, as you do, and well, he’s certainly not backing down now.

**SHIPPY BONUS**: Maybe Steve finds out he’s not that comfortable with a bunch of strangers touching him, taking pictures of him when he’s naked, oogling him. So he turns to the people he trusts the most. Who? Sam and Nat of course.

I was feeling a bit angsty today (when do I not? Would be a better question), so, Steve's perfect memory. He can recall memories like they're actually happening again if he focuses well enough. You know that feel when you zone out completely, almost disassociating? And when you drag yourself back it's suddenly ten minutes later?

Sometimes, Steve zones out. He remembers something from his past and starts thinking about it more. And then more. And more. He completely zones out. Then, someone shakes him, and he "wakes up". His friends look at him worriedly. It's been 25 minutes, and he hasn't moved, spoken, he hasn't even blinked.

"You okay?" They ask.

"Just thinking," he answers, forcing himself to smile.

It can be a bad memory but it can also be something random. He just gets really quiet and still, and more often worries the people around him. He can't really help it, it just happens.

I FEEL THIS SO BAD OMG??

I do this to a point where my friend has to wave a hand in front of my face at lunch sometimes. She's a little concerned but I assured her I'm just deep in my thoughts lol

Aaah Steve would! A couple years ago I learnt that people have varying degrees of visualising things in their mind. The inability to create mental images is called aphantasia and I really can't imagine what that would be like. The opposite is called hyperphantasia - and I believe Steve would have that post-serum.

It's described as "as vivid as real seeing" so... It wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine just how lost in his memories Steve could become! Combined with his perfect memory he could literally replay those moments like a movie and that must be really painful since it's... not actually real. It just looks real, but it's long gone.

And you know how once you start thinking about something, and try not to think about it, it just doesn't work? That doesn't bode well for him either.

He'll randomly recall something from his past, but it won't go away... and before he knows it, he's replaying that memory in his mind, and it's impossible to let go of it, because it's something he either loves or hates, and he can be tranced in his own mind for a long while... It will linger until someone disrupts his thought process.

And he'll smile tightly and says he's okay when he's... really not.

I like to think eventually he'll talk to someone on the team about it. Maybe Bruce, since I think he'd know what's up, and he did study the serum excessively so that's a bonus. And talking about it helps - it pulls Steve out of thinking too much. He's not stuck in his head anymore. And maybe he even learns how to end the trance voluntarily, how to let go of the memory.
