lol you're reading too much into the whole freelancer thing. being a freelancer is what differentiates them from the rest of the listeners, and the listeners don't have canon names so everyone can insert themselves or their own oc into the story without it feeling too restrictive. what would you have them call freelancer instead? it's not at all about reducing the character to their specialty (or lack thereof)

Lasko was once FORCED to join the tennis team because he’s a lefty and they thought he’d be good at doubles matches. After 4 lessons the coach realised it would just be easier to get a right handed person to play left and dropped him from the team.

One time Sweetheart tried to give Angel a piggy back when they were walking home from the bar and after one step they face planted the ground. Both of their tops fell apart and they just laid half naked, bleeding on the road in the rain together, whilst a bouncer repeatedly tried to ask if they were okay.

Freelancer is always cold and wears 17 layers of clothes no matter what the weather is

The first date Guy ever went on was to the cinema and when he got up to go to the bathroom in the dark he tripped over his dates backpack strap and decked it down the stairs. There was not a second date.

Sam gets random hiccups that are REALLY fucking loud. Everyday.

Treasure once made the brave decision to try an ‘Alice from twilight’ inspired pixie cut as a teenager but the hairdresser apparently hated them cause they left the shop looking twice their age and like they owned a mini bus

Starlight’s ears are pierced wonky cause they got them done at Claire’s and it pisses them off to no end.

The first time Huxley went to a new gym he got stuck in the door by his bag strap for a solid five minutes and he immediately went to sign back up at his old gym

Damien’s first job was at a fast food place and during his first week he had food thrown at him and ended up having to be pulled back through the drive-thru window for ‘threatening the customer’

Doc had a phase where they got really into learning about religion but had to stop because it got to the point were they kept thinking the devil was in their bedroom trying to kill them.

Marie’s once handed in her two week notice at her job because a male manager kept adamantly trying to diagnose her with specifically an ‘under active’ thyroid for no reason and she was so shook by the audacity.

Darlin’ accepted a lift home from a man once. ONE TIME. And he ended up continually turning up to their work to see if they were there and leaving if they weren’t. They never accepted a lift from anyone other than Gabe for years after

angel: -1000/10 — they aren’t jealous at all, aside from the fact that david is down horrendous for them, he is very direct/blunt about rejecting people especially after he got married. they know they don’t have to worry about a god damn thing (none of the listeners really do, you get what i mean)

baabe: 2.5/10 — they aren’t too jealous, but they know asher being the total sweetheart he is sometimes completely forgets his attractiveness and doesn’t immediately realise he’s being hit on so they have to point it out to him. asher makes a really big show of how married he is though, so they too will be fine1!1!1!

sweetheart: 6/10 — sweetheart is the type to get disgustingly affectionate with milo when they see strangers getting a little too close to comfort. it’s not really from being personally insecure or anything, it’s just what’s theirs is theirs (milo eats it the fuck up). they’re also very aware they bagged a fine piece of ass so

darlin: 1/10 — surprisingly not really that jealous! theyre at a place where they’re fully aware that neither of them are going anywhere unless one of them dies so. in fact it kinda boosts their ego to see him get hit on by other people and then watch him turn them down. (i think if anyone made him uncomfy they’d swing though)

lovely: 7/10 — aside from the fact that lovely has a history of a good thing being taken from the way too soon, vincent and lovely have always been fiercely defensive of each other. i always imagine they crank up the PDA to 12 if anyone tries to hit on either of them.

treasure: 5/10 — they do get jealous, but also often shame themselves for feeling that jealousy. it’s probably from the hyper awareness they have, they know where the jealousy roots from (never really having anybody in their corner) and why they feel it so intensely. they really wish they weren’t like this (porter finds it endearing though, and is arguably worse)

freelancer: - ♾️/10 — i feel like this one’s obvious

dear: 2.5/10 — people tend to think lasko’s easy. and he kinda is! but for them specifically, not just anyone! unfortunately people don’t understand that memo quick enough for their liking. they don’t do much to signal to people he’s taken though, cuz they don’t have to! lasko will fold at them so much as playing with his hair.

starlight: 0/10 — they have literally been to hell together and back, they’re gonna be just fine. avior can be a little jealous/possessive sometimes which they find extremely attractive

honey: 4/10 — rarely admits to it and won’t do anything about it, but they can get jealous from time to time due to them being a little insecure about whether or not they’re in guy’s league/the right fit for them. guy is excellent at reassuring them that they are, and if he detects that they might feel off around anyone he makes the biggest most insufferable show of them to cheer them up

smartass: 5/10 — smartass & aaron perfectly match each others jealousy/possessiveness levels i think, like the other half of this scale goes to him LMAO. smartass occasionally pisses themselves off realising that there’s probably people out there who actually fantasise about having him/want him. they are immediately reassured that he’s not going anywhere by how clingy he gets whenever they get time together.

sweetie (azmidi): 1/10 (there’s a pattern with the d(a)emon’s listeners isn’t there)… — other people couldn’t even dream of being able to handle him. next pls!

warden: 7.5/10 — you will NEVER catch them admitting it, but even sensing others attraction to vega can irritate them a little. they’re aware he looks good, so they try to distract themselves from it, but vega knows and adores it because they’re way worse.

slight insinuation of mature themes in milo & porter's sections, but nothing explicit!

— freelancer often holds hands with each person within the damn squad, including coworker/dear.

-> they find that huxley’s hand is the biggest and gentlest, damien’s hand is the warmest and most tense, lasko’s hand is often the one with the most prevalent veins, gavin’s hand is the smoothest, and coworker’s hand is, well, whatever you make of it <3

— elliott & sunshine would hold hands all the time, even before getting together. it added to their ‘will they won’t they’ experience very much (and both of them often thought about it in a totally platonic way).

— avior has a tendency to hold starlight’s hand with both hands when he’s telling them things that’re important to him.

— darlin’, asher, and angel have all held hands with david at some point. they all say it feels different ways.

— blake’s handholding has never been gentle, even way back when. he holds with possession instead of guidance. he also always interlocks his fingers with bestie’s. -> even so, whenever they mention to him that his grip is too tight, he loosens it- but only just.

— geordi, after being physically away from cutie for certain amounts of time and then seeing them for checkups, tends to wonder if they might get the chance to hold hands during such checkups. they never do, but his gaze tends to linger at their fidgeting hands often.

— guy, even in his chaos and all, will always kiss honey’s knuckles without fail when they hold hands. every. single. time.

— milo never fails to hold sweetheart’s hand during private and/or intimate times, although as much as he insists to it, it’s mainly because he likes to know they’re there and they’re safe. sweetheart finds it quite, ironically, sweet.

— morgan wears jewelry on his fingers, and talks with his hands. there's been times where he'll softly grasp obscura's hands for emphasis on his talking points, and will only notice that they've been holding hands for longer than intended after it's pointed out to him. (he notices beforehand, actually. he simply likes holding their hands. not that he'd admit such)

— porter's touch is very restrained, with lack of better term. he'll brush fingers over treasure's knuckles and fingertips without holding. he teases their skin with intent to hold but without action to do so. treasure wonders if it's too intimate for him to bear.

Lots of Headcanons #1

Due to recent events I'm writing lots of mini headcanons to liven the mood, starting with my very BESTEST FRIEND @cyc-chilla

Avior

Avior has a drawing tablet he uses whenever he gets stressed, which is a lot.

He specializes in backgrounds, landscapes, and designs/patterns.

He prefers digital art rather than traditional art since it’s more forgiving, but he still dabbles in watercolors a lot.

Avior doesn’t often eat human food since it’s not necessary but when Starlight speaks about their favorite foods, or cooks anything, he usually tries the food, whether it looks appetizing or not.

He played tic-tac-toe almost 100 times to entertain himself in “hell”, and he lost to himself more than half of that amount.

Sam

As a kid, Sam would usually hang out in the nearest park, away from home, and try bringing home critters from there. Whether it was a squirrel, bugs, rabbits, stray cats, didn’t matter. He liked picking them up and trying to take them home. It worked a few times but someone would always find the animal and toss it back out.

Sam was a cowboy for Halloween from the ages of 7-12, and he regrets telling Darlin’ about it every passing day.

He hasn’t bought a new iPhone since 2018.

The only holiday his family spent together was Christmas, and he missed it greatly when he moved to Dahlia. He didn’t celebrate with the House for a number of reasons, so the first one he spent with other people since moving was when he started dating Darlin’ and he felt emotional during the entire day.

Butter Pecan is not his favorite ice cream flavor, he just says it is to make people mad. He still likes it, though

He spent an entire summer when he was 11 selling lemonade and water in his local park to raise money to buy a SNES. He never did have enough to buy one but he had a shit ton of money for an 11 year old.

Him going to Six Flags in Cali was the first and only time he’s ever been to an amusement park.

Porter

When she was alive, Porter got his mother a bouquet of flowers every year for mothers day, with differing handwritten notes. Even after his presumed death, she’d get flowers sent to her home every mothers day, and to this day a bundle of flowers and notes are put on her grave.

He uses a flip phone when calling people he doesn’t like so he can hang up on them by slamming it shut.

His love-language is gift-giving, so Treasure just has a bunch of real expensive jewelry in one of their drawers because Porter gives them so much of it.

Although he prefers physical touch, and Treasure always delivers it.

Cannot color inside the lines of a coloring book

Caelum does not like feeling constricted, so whenever he’s on Elegy he makes his form wear flowy and loose clothes to give himself space

Whenever he drinks kool-aid he rushes to the nearest mirror to look at his tongue changing color

When using a coloring book, he usually draws with a single color crayon, no two colors unless he’s drawing it for his siblings, Freelancer, or Gavin.

He finds bunk beds adorable until it’s time for him to sleep on one

Caelum cannot sleep on a normal day. He can try, and he can pretend, but if he’s not doing it to help someone else, he can’t just “go to sleep”, he’s too excited for anything and everything.

Due to accelerated energy, Caelum (and most Empathy Daemons) flies faster and for longer than other demons.

He gave his physical form braces once, took them off almost immediately.

Hi, can we get some headcanons for Billy, Lycaon and Anton with a reader whose super strong and during a mission where their partner gets hurt, is able to bridal carry them with ease? The guys deserve being able to be bridal carried

They do in fact deserve being bridal carried

I was once told about bridal carrying in cdrama where the guy usually can’t actually pick up the girl, let alone carry her long enough to finish the shot, so they have the girl sit on something and hide the fact that she’s not even being carried like excuse me it’s not *that* hard

And then the guys blame the girl for being too heavy even though the girls are usually like decently under 100lbs???

So I would assume none of our big guys would expect to be carried bridal style anytime soon :(

Headcanons were made assuming you work at the same company/are in the same group as them (I imagine cross-group missions are probably infrequent, and if you’re a freelancer you probably worked with them enough to be familiar with their respective groups)

Billy

Freaks about getting hurt, but whether he actually feels it is questionable (is it possible for him to turn off pain reception? Perchance, might be more convenient than thinking about how much everything hurts on a mission); you should comfort him anyway

More about loss of function/inability to move, so if he’s being bridal carried it’s likely some issue with his torso or legs

Initially jokes about how you need to slow down a bit for him, but doesn’t expect you to scoop him up and keep moving at the same speed as before

He’s literally metal??

Might yelp upon the scoopening, but insists it never happened

If the mission is still ongoing, he’ll try to keep shooting to keep enemies off your back since your arms are occupied (with him! Oh gosh he’s feeling things in his mechanical heart that are uhh not normal, maybe that’s malfunctioning too??)

Yaps about your strength, which miiight be on par with the Starlight Knights

He may or may not ask you to pick him up again later, but who wouldn’t when they learn there’s someone who can make them feel small and safe

May get into the habit of jumping into your arms if he gets startled/scared, and only because he knows you can handle the sudden change without a large chance of falling over (the others in the Cunning Hares he’s not quite sure of and probably would just hide behind them before realizing what it is that startled him)

May get in your lap on the ‘company couch’, aka the one in the apartment they all live in, and interlock his fingers on the other side of your neck to have a nice pseudo-bridal carry, but only when the others aren’t there to tease and distract him from precious carrying time (if dating, he will instead yell back asking why he can’t be carried by his partner and ignore screeches to get a room)

Lycaon

Insists he’s fine and can walk on his own, but ends up stumbling even when supported (there’s almost no way he’s going to want to be carried at any earlier point, because what high-end butler gets carried like that? Would rather choose to be carried on someone’s back since the weight distribution is easier to manage that way, whereas a bridal carry puts all the weight in the front with the additional tripping hazard of his giant fluffy tail in the case that he’s unconscious and can’t hold it out of the way for them)

Might be shot in the thigh or something, or his prosthetics are too heavily damaged and are going bad on a ‘less severe’ case requiring him to be carried

Since he’s a close-range fighter, he can’t do much when carried beyond using his arms to smack/punch an enemy away (may later carry more projectiles, just in case)

May initially tense up at being picked up since it was entirely unexpected, but if he’s conscious enough he’ll either act like he’s watching your back to avoid responding to the action or he’ll turn away and mutter a ‘thank you’ (he has to express gratitude for this, after all, otherwise it’d be rude) and hold on so you aren’t inconvenienced any more than you already are

If it was an issue with his prosthetics, he’ll try to avoid it happening again and install more failsafes or reinforce the structure

Unless you’re similarly large and/or visibly strong, he keeps wondering how it’s possible, even if he knows of your history of being extra strong or knows how much you can bench press or something (even then, sustaining a position like a bridal carry for a long time while running around ends up being harder than a single-motion effort of pushing/pulling something)

Probably asks if you strained something carrying him and prepares remedies beforehand just in case the answer is yes

May try to find a chance to bridal carry you so that it’s even

May also try to drop subtle hints that he actually enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind you continuing to bridal carry him even when it’s not quite necessary, even though it’s horrible for his reputation as the professional

Anton

Initially tries to act tough, tries to make do with leaning on you, etc, but at some point his legs give out or he can’t keep himself upright and it’s not like his bro can do the walking for him

Also expects to be carried on your back or carried by Ben or hauled onto one of Grace’s machines (‘babies’) to get taken back or to be patched up a bit in a hidden corner and rest until he can continue, but gets whisked away in your arms, jacket included

Holds on, of course; what bro would he be if he struggled and made it hard for you to carry him after you helped him out?

Feels very Safe somehow, even though he’s hurting enough to the point where he can’t walk on his own because of how dangerous the mission was

If it’s just you two on the mission, he’ll try and force himself to stay awake enough to keep enemies away from you; otherwise it might be okay for him to relax and let the others handle it (let him sleep, he needs it)

Of course he’ll make up for it later by doing extra on another mission; can’t let you down (you’re one of few people in the company who fully pulls their weight on the job, and he admits to liking you more; for fairness’s sake, he’ll only let on that the performance influenced his judgement and he also tries not to seem biased lest the other workers become discouraged)

Regardless of whether you’re dating, he’d mainly be impressed by your strength and wonders if it’s just your natural strength or if it’s something you built up to; extra impressed if you’re smaller, because how the hell is your arm reaching around his back??

Not the type to get insecure at being bridal carried, though sometimes he wonders why you would go for the more difficult option on a mission (safety first, like in construction); figures you must have your reasons or want to show off or are treating it like a workout, and would let you pick him up again later if you asked

Instead, Anton might actually like you more, since you’ve proven to be capable even when he’s incapacitated (a truly reliable bro)

If dating, may consider putting his face against your neck because it’s right there but decides against it to avoid distracting you (will do so when patched up and at home, though)

Midnight Snacks with Redacted Characters

• For all the grief he gives Angel for it, David does keep a single pack of instant ramen on standby in a location he refuses to disclose. He’ll dress it up a bit with a soft boiled egg, some frozen veggies, tofu, leftover meat, whatever he can find.

• Asher isn’t much of a cook, but if Baaabe is hungry in the middle of the night he loves to make some Nutella on toast.

• Milo doesn’t like waking up in the middle of the night as he’s super groggy, but if he and Sweetheart are hungry he’ll throw together some yogurt, berries, and granola before flopping back down.

• Vincent and Lovely don’t need sleep or human food anymore, but occasionally they both get a hankering for a midnight McDonald’s run. They always get it to go and eat outside.

• Sam constantly has to deal with Darlin’ rummaging through the pantry in the middle of the night like a damn raccoon. He won’t let them gorge themselves on chips, instead making them a packet of instant oatmeal before dragging their nocturnal ass back to bed.

• Gavin will never say no to a late-night 7/11 run, though in the interest of keeping Freelancer alive during the day, he’ll rift there himself and come back with whatever snacks they want (provided they’re not too caffeine/sugar laced).

• Avior loves cuddling Starlight throughout the night, content to stay awake and watch them sleep. If they wake up hungry, he’ll magic up some scrambled eggs on toast before cuddling them back down and using just the tiniest bit of dreamwalking magic to help them get back to sleep.

• Lasko tries to make sure he’s not hungry before bed but if he or his partner wake up hungry he’ll make a big mug of hot chocolate (or chocolate milk).

• Hux has a seemingly bottomless supply of granola bars that he keeps for snacks. He keeps a box in his nightstand as well, “Just in case.”

• Damien has a horrific habit of making a protein shake if he’s hungry in the middle of the night. Hux is trying to help him break it.

• Ollie has an undying love for leftover midnight pizza. He swears up and down midnight pizza hits different in a Michelin star way; Babe is convinced it’s the sleep deprived delirium talking.

• Aaron hates getting woken up by Smartass in the middle of the night so they go ninja-mode lifting themselves off his chest. They’ll usually just munch on some dry cereal right out the box before heading back to bed. Aaron secretly does the same thing and has yet to be caught drinking milk straight from the carton.

• Ivan likes having chai and cookies if he and Baby are hungry in the middle of the night. He’s a firm believer that warm drinks and cuddles make a happy, sleepy Baby.

• Elliott is that bitch who makes an entire box poptarts at 1AM. He’s not sorry and he is sharing.

• James likes to have apples and peanut butter for a late night snack. He tries not to eat anything too heavy that’ll slow him down in the morning.

• Anton loves some warm pumpkin soup for a midnight snack. It’s always homemade and he always keeps a little on standby just in case his partner needs it.

• Guy will gorge himself on candy in the middle of the night. Honey keeps finding his stashes but Guy just keeps finding new places to hide his Sour Patch Kids. Honey’d check for secret compartments in the drawers if they thought Guy had the handyman-ness for it.

Redacted headcanons- d(a)emons edition

Gavin is good with make up. (Though I guess that kinda goes without saying since he canonically likes to dress in drag?) So sometimes he does Freelancer's, or maybe the rest of the crew's make up, if they ever wanted to try it.

When he ACTUALLY started therapy, Cam probably had to limit the time he spent with his charges, at first.

Avior plays the piano, maybe the violin, too? Either way, Starlight plays as well, but they tend to go for more modern instrumets.

Ever since Brachium got out of Death, he gets reminded of the place every time he hears or sees water flow, because of the river. He feels conflicting emotions every time that happens.

I'd say both Vega and Brachium have a very specific vibe to them, since both of them are centuries old they probably have that "from another time" type of feel.
