The part about yellow eyes = how deep into the Dark you are makes a ton of sense, and I’ve honestly lowkey been headcanoning that too.

Take this with a grain of salt lol because half of what I know about the Inquisitorius might be more fanon than canon lol, but here goes:

The Inquisitors definitely seem to be more aligned with Sidious’s (and sort of Vader’s) goals specifically.  Whereas Ventress was more just doing things that aligned with mostly her own goals (which, yes, did tend to be Sithy ones for a while), the Inquisitorius’s singular goal appears to be to eliminate the issue of rogue Force-sensitives by either a, killing them or b, turning them.  Palps and Vader also both have the yellow eyes (the exception being certain instances with Vader, as mentioned above).

I’ll probably come up with more to add to this at some point but my brain is wandering too much right now lol

Hello! I've been trying to work something out and I was wondering if you, Almighty Lumi, might have any input. I'm rewatching Rebels and I know that there are in-universe differences between the inquisitors and Vader, but I'm having trouble articulating them (and I haven't played Fallen Order so maybe there's information that I'm missing). Vader is the only one identified specifically as a sith lord by Kanan. He is the only one who gives them that "cold" feeling of the dark side. 1/2

At first I thought the inquisitors fell more along the lines of sith assassins like Ventress, but she (notably) did not have the yellow eyes and was more self-serving than self-sacrificing. But the inquisitors seem completely devoted to the cause, yellow eyes and all, hunting down innocents and torturing and everything else we would expect. So why are they not considered sith? Why do they not put off that “cold” feeling? Is it a power thing? I can’t quite figure it out. 2/2

A lot of this is going to be guesswork, because we don't really have a lot of explicit answers! So, about Sith Lords, you're right that the Inquisitors are not Sith, but yellow eyes have never been specifically tied to only the Sith, as far as I'm aware? They're a dark side thing, but not all dark side users are Sith. And not all Sith have yellow eyes, like Dooku didn't have yellow eyes, but he was still Darth Tyranus. Anakin/Vader's eyes change back and forth, sometimes they're yellow, sometimes they're blue, but we don't have any info on specifically what that means. My best guess about the yellow eyes is that they're tied into how deeply subsumed in the dark side you are. When Anakin is on Mustafar with his yellow eyes, he's in a pit of absolute despair for what he's done, that he's just murdered a bunch of innocent children yet again, that's probably when he feels there's no way out of the dark the most. Once Obi-Wan and Padme show up, there might be more hope for him again, but he just can't crawl out of that pit and Mustafar ends the way it does. It's hard to tell what color his eyes are on the operating table when he's put in the suit, it could go either way. There's a Dark Lord of the Sith comic where his eyes are shown as yellow, then briefly blue to show that the Force vision he's receiving is a hopeful one, but he rejects it and his eyes turn yellow again. When Luke takes his helmet off, his eyes are no longer yellow. In contrast, the Grand Inquisitor never seemed to have hope to pull himself out of the dark (and the vision of him in the Jedi Temple where Kanan was Knighted was, via word of god, Yoda not actually the Inquisitor himself) and thus his eyes never changed from the yellow. It doesn't matter that he's not a Sith, because he's still a dark sider who is so deep into the hell of it that it's literally rotting him. The Inquisitors are the Inquisitors, they're their own thing that are being trained and used by the Sith, but they're not meant to be Sith themselves, just a different kind of dark sider. They're still under the same rules of How The Force Works, but they're not following Sith traditions or lore. (I mean, they can, they could even go ahead and declare themselves a Sith Lord, but I don't think they see themselves that way and neither Sidious or Vader were training them in that direction.) Ventress was training to be a Sith, under Dooku, and she's called thus because Dooku bestowed that title on her. But my guess is that she's not so deep into the dark that she feels she can't crawl out of it (and she does die in the light, so I would take that as an indication that she felt the pull of the light), so her eyes never turn. Maul, as well, never let go of the poison yellow eyes because he was never able to crawl out of the dark side. Whether he still considered himself Sith at the end is separate from his inability to let go of the dark side/yellow eyes. So, it's more that there are multiple dark side user groups, just like there are multiple light side user groups. They still work on how the Force works, but their aims and goals and culture (if they have one) are different. (Not sure the Sith precisely count as a culture, but not not sure, either.)

1: favorite fic you wrote this year! okay so this is a surprisingly hard one lol, i checked and i only started and finished 16 fics this year (that are posted to my main)? i know that probably seems like a lot but to me at least it seems like very little lol; for example, in 2020 (which, tbf, was a very prolific year writing-wise for me even though i had one of my biggest blocks in a while then), i wrote upwards of 50 fics LOL

I did manage to narrow my favorites down to a couple though: - Solemn Lines of Lions Lions has a lot done for it planning- and snippet-wise, though it’s currently mostly in the far future hence why we haven’t done much for it since the first chapter lol (we’ve also been preoccupied with college and with Hollow Castles, which is an...arguably much angstier version of Lions that has much more posted; you can find it here).  I think this is one of my favorites partially because my partner’s the one working on it with me, and partly because the dynamics are just so fun to play around with in it, so I’m excited for you guys to see that :)

- and you know you can’t look down (to get home, you have to look forward) This was done for a friend for an exchange on the Phoenix Nest Discord server, and though I changed my plan last minute and ended up writing most of this shortly before it was due to be posted, I love how it turned out!  Definitely has the potential for a much bigger AU, but I’ll let someone else go for that ;)

- the wrong end of a very long tunnel This fic is another of my favorites because it focuses on Tristan - more specifically, on his thought process as he and Saxon try to find an outpost after a blizzard has marred the landscape, though one of them is looking significantly harder for a way to that outpost than the other.  I had another version of this that was also semi-canon-compliant, but much darker, written, however this one felt better for the “clan” prompt.  I’ve hiked alone a lot the past couple years, and though I haven’t done so in a blizzard since a couple of weeks ago (long after I wrote that fic), I hope I was able to capture the feeling of both calm and unease that surrounds you when you’re mostly alone in the woods, with mostly just your own thoughts and memories to keep you occupied.  I honestly think this was my best piece writing-wise this year, and I’m very proud of it and the final line still haunts me lol.

15: something you learned this year! The importance of friends who keep you pumped up and push you to expand your comfort zone (particularly @lessattitudemorealtitude, @isaakandreyevs, and @kitepiper lol), as well as how important it is to just write stuff that you and maybe 1-2 other people want to read, rather than to write what’s popular or whatever.  If you’re not happy with what you’re writing it shines through, and becoming more comfortable with that has helped me lots this year.
