the comics i'm reading refer to events in the 2013 PS3/XBOX 360 game Star Trek and fam I have no memory of this game at all.

this was a game that was released? What if any impact did it have? cuz i'm betting very little.

i think the team behind the star trek 2013 game locked the entire reboot cast in a closet and made them record their lines in alphabetical order, bethesda style, except for karl urban who i believe is being held at gunpoint or possibly has a slice of cake being dangled in front of him on a string judging by the nervous tension in the stiffness in his line delivery and that its a 50/50 if he remembers he is supposed to be doing a southern accent halfway through a take

Hot take: Fede Álvarez might actually be the JJ Abrams of horror movies

Reasoning: Both directors, when given the director reins of famous IPs, just regurgitate the ideas/concepts/imagery of the previous movies but in a way that tricks audiences into thinking they’re watching something new. The Star Trek reboot leaned heavily on the original series (especially Wrath of Khan). And it’s been talked to death that the Sequel Trilogy are just rehashes of the Original Trilogy.

As for Álvarez, Evil Dead 2013 was pretty much a reboot of the original movie. They changed the names of the characters, but other than that, the movie followed the story of the original closely (up until the climax where it switches protagonists). Alien Romulus takes a lot from the original Alien. A team of civilians go to this abandoned ship, they find the alien(s), one crewmember gets Facehugged and is turned into a host of the Xenomorph, the main ship is destroyed, the Final Girl chucks the last alien out of the ship, and then ends with a video log of the Final Girl. The crew is even similar to the original (the two complainers, the captain, the synthetic, the crying person, the Ripley).

The central difference here is that while Abrams has gotten a lot of flack for this, Álvarez hasn’t.

My Bride is getting ready to watch Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) so I ask if she's ever watched Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982) that brought back Ricardo Montalban as Khan Noonien Singh from the 1967 Original Star Trek series episode "Seed Ship"? She was like "Nah, you know I don't get too into these Star Wars things. I just needed some background noise." I'm about to loose my shit when she is like....

FUCK, I LOVE THIS WOMAN! After getting my blood pressure under control I said to really appreciate Kahn she needed to see The Wrath of Khan. She loves Benedict Cumberbatch version, I'm interested in her opinion of his version after seeing the immortal acting of Ricardo Montalban as Khan.
