Dr Adams is legitimately such a good antagonist, partly because he’s such a good liar. At every step, he says exactly what Kirk expects him to ay or wants to hear.
Even when Kirk calls him when they realize who Van Gelder is, Adams clearly has guessed they’ve done their research and so changes his tune from “escaped inmate” to referring to him as “Dr. Van Gelder” just to get Kirk off his trail.
And what’s so interesting to me is that Kirk, as clever as he is, is a little bit blinded by his admiration for Adams and might have fallen for it. It takes McCoy sharing his emotional reaction to having been caring for Van Gelder and Spock sharing his logical perspective that allows him to see beyond his own admiration and take the action that he needs to.
How it took Star Trek until season 2 to realize how invaluable Bones is I will never understand.

[Video ID: A thirty-one second clip taken from Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Haven", set at a tense wedding party. Deanna Troi stands up from a dining table and yells, "Stop this petty bickering, all of you! Especially you, Mother!" before storming out of the the room, loudly knocking over a gong in frustration as she leaves. Awkward stares are exchanged among the crowd, but Tasha Yar seems amused by the dramatics. After a moment of silence, Data Soong bluntly asks, "...Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing." Geordi La Forge exasperatedly puts a hand to his face in the background. Lwaxana Troi and Victoria Miller exchange glances at the question, seeming taken aback. Scene fades to black. / End ID]

In honor of me watching 2x01 with the iconic boob window shirt rip (taken from my notes), I’ve decided to reveal what I’ve been doing. I have been taking down each episode as I do a watch of TOS to see how many shirt rips actually happen out of curiosity. Here’s my season one statistics.
State of Star Trek Shirts - Season One TOS
Season Two’s Stats
1x01 - Perfectly intact but Kirk wears a slutty bed robe.
1x02 - Intact, but he is willingly shirtless for a scene.
1x03 - Kirk’s shirt gets torn at the end, shoulder and chest exposed.
1x04 - Somewhat willingly shirtless (and incredibly sweaty) Sulu! And Kirk shoulder rip, right at the end.
1x05 - Evil twin Kirk willingly shirtless.
1x06 - Everyone was intact!
1x07 - Unwillingly shirtless Kirk (technically unwillingly naked)
1x08 - Many shirt rips though nothing scandalous.
1x09 - Intact!
1x10 - Instantly shirtless and sweaty Kirk, opens with it. He fucking walks through the halls shirtless.
1x11 - No exposure.
1x12 - Double no exposure.
1x13 - Triple!
1x14 - Quadrouple! Shit’s getting boring.
1x15 - A Yeoman does get her uniform torn and has to hold up the top half for a while, and Kirk’s own shirt is torn all across the shoulder and chest, exposing titties. He gets all dirty and sweaty too, of course.
1x16 - Perfectly fine once again!
1x17 - Man, boring. Intact.
1x18 - Entirely fine despite a fight in the desert.
1x19 - Intact shirts. Sigh.
1x20 - Shoulder rip down the chest! Plus no undershirt so the silly cropped uniform keeps exposing him.
1x21 - Sigh, intact.
1x22 - Intact.
1x23 - Intact, ladies and gents.
1x24 - My stats are gonna be boring. Intact.
1x25 - I think people exaggerate. Intact.
1x26 - All good.
1x27 - Once again.
1x28 - Intact. Lame.
1x29 - He’s fine! So many shirts!
Keep in mind it’s possible I missed one here or there. Now, complied data.
Out of twenty-nine episodes in season one, only nine had a shirt rip or a shirtless Kirk. Now, that is a lot of shirt rips, but I am a little surprised at it.
That is ~31% of season one.
I wanted to make a pie chart and will continue with this as I watch the remaining two seasons. If I’m missing an episode, please let me know and I’ll fix my data. Do with this information what you will I guess, I just wanted to track stuff. XD

McCoy: It's hard to believe that a man could die of loneliness.
Kirk: Not when you've sat in that room.
Is this the moment when Kirk comes to the realization - a belief that ultimately proved to come true - that when he dies, he will die alone?

Jess Watches // Sat 20 Apr // Day 206 Synopses & Favourite Scenes & Poll
Moving (with L) Ep 20 Graduation Day (Finale)
Parents and children fight to protect each other. Will this repeated war ever end?
I adored that we actually got to see the aftermath of all the fighting. That all the mains are alive and thriving and living their lives more peacefully. I think eps 1-7 focusing on the teens should've aired alternatively with 8-14 focusing on the adults (eg. 1, 8, 2, 9) to intertwine both timelines to help maximize the effectiveness of the overall story. But otherwise I really enjoyed this. I'll miss these characters I've become rather fond of <3
Star Trek: Prodigy 1x11 Asylum
At the edge of Federation space, the crew applies for asylum at a comm relay outpost, only for their starship to reveal its shocking true purpose.
Rok sure was one confused lady trying to do all those scientific equations quickly before they got blasted. She did amazingly well under pressure. I know off-screen they gave her the squishiest group hug.
Killing Eve (Remix) [x] 3x08 Shove That in Your Fanny Pack and Eat it
3x07 - Villanelle and Dasha travel to Aberdeen to kill an American businessman at a golf country club. V hits Dasha over the head with a golf club and leaves her for dead. Eve tracks V's credit card and kills Dasha by standing on her chest. As V's train leaves, she looks out the window to see Eve on the platform. She calls Eve.
V with a hoarse Scottish accent (because Jodie had a cold) paired with her Grinch-inspired outfit is still an iconic V look. And Eve being so determined in her pursuit, that single-minded focus on finding V, that release of fully embracing her darkness and killing Dasha. Also, I ended with V going to see Gunn from 406 as it fit nicely here as she was already in Scotland.

TOS 1x11 - "Dagger of the Mind" Review
It’s time to strap in for a little brain drain at the Tantalus Penal Colony. Get ready for Doc Adams to place this retro review into your empty, neuralized mind, maman. Can you see it? That needful eggnog nookie in the Captain's quarters? Hike up your blue skirt a little more, maman. A man could die of loneliness. In a Jim's dream.
