Oh Promise Me is a song with music by Reginald De Koven and lyrics by Clement Scott. The song was written in 1887 and first published in 1889 by G. Schirmer, Inc. as an art song. It is believed that De Koven based the melody of "O Promise Me" partly on "Music Proibita", a popular song by Italian composer Stanislao Gastaldon. In 1890, De Koven wrote his most successful comic opera, Robin Hood. After opening night, the contralto playing Alan-a-Dale, Jessie Bartlett Davis, demanded a song to better show off her voice, threatening to walk out of the production. De Koven inserted "Oh Promise Me" into the score for her.

The sheet music sold over a million copies in 1890 and continued to gain popularity for several decades, being performed by many artists. The song remains popular as a wedding song both in America and in the UK. In 1957, American vocal group The Platters recorded a cover of the song, with authorship credited solely to the group's manager Buck Ram, with no mention of the original composers.

Robin Hood is a comic opera by Reginald De Koven (music), Harry B. Smith (lyrics) and Clement Scott (lyrics of "Oh Promise Me"). The story is based on the Robin Hood legend, during the reign of King Richard I (1189-1199 AD). The opera was composed in Chicago, Illinois during the winter of 1888-1889.

The opera was first performed at the Chicago Opera House on 9 June 1890. It was produced by the Boston Ideal Opera Company, also known as the Bostonians. The opera opened in New York at the Standard Theatre on September 22, 1891 and was produced in London at the Prince of Wales Theatre in 1891 with a new title, Maid Marian. It was revived at the Knickerbocker Theater on Broadway on April 30, 1900. Other Broadway revivals were in 1902 at the Academy of Music, in 1912 at New Amsterdam Theatre with Walter Hyde in the title role, in 1918 at the Park Theatre, in 1929 at the Casino Theatre and Jolson's 59th Street Theatre, in 1932 at Erlanger's Theatre, and in 1944 at the Adelphi Theatre.

Marie Rappold (17 August 1872 – 12 May 1957) Opera Singer. She was a dramatic soprano who sang in many of the world's leading opera houses. Born to a German family that moved to Brooklyn, New York City, New York when she was about five, she studied voice with Oscar Saenger, and sang with the Amberg German Opera Company. Her Metropolitan Opera debut was on November 22, 1905, in Karl Goldmark's "The Queen of Sheba". From then until 1920, she sang 198 performances of 23 different roles with the company, being particularly known for the title character in "Aida". Her first appearances in Paris, France were in 1908, and she made her Milan, Italy debut in 1911. Early in her career, she was an exclusive artist with Edison Studios during the World War I years, which ran a marketing campaign in which they would set up a top-of-the line Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph, have a live singer present, darken the theatre, and ask the audience to guess which was which; Madame Rappold was the "live" singer for the first demonstration, at Carnegie Hall, on April 28, 1916. In 1922, she appeared in a short film made by Lee De Forest using his Phonofilm process, an early experiment in linking sound to video. She sang in the world premiere of Frank Patterson's "The Echo" in 1925, and once performed "Aida" in Yankee Stadium. She left a large legacy of recordings, made with both Edison and Victor.

Η ΕΡΤ γιορτάζει την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Μουσικής με μια μοναδική online συναυλία

Η Εθνική Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα της ΕΡΤ γιορτάζει την μουσική, την πρώτη μέρα του καλοκαιριού και τη μεγαλύτερη μέρα του χρόνου συμμετέχοντας σε μια μοναδική πολυμεσική παραγωγή.

Με αφορμή την Ευρωπαϊκή Ημέρα Μουσικής, το Μέγαρο Μουσικής έλαβε την πρωτοβουλία για μία μοναδική online συναυλία η οποία θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Αίθριο και στον Κήπο του Μεγάρου στις 21 Ιουνίου 2020 στις 19.00.

Η online συναυλία, διάρκειας 120′, θα καλυφθεί και θα προβληθεί πολυμεσικά μέσω live streaming από το webTV της ΕΡΤ και σε απευθείας μετάδοση από το Τρίτο Πρόγραμμα 95,6 και 90,9 FM και την ΕΡΤ2. Παράλληλα μέσω των profile του Τρίτου Προγράμματος και των Μουσικών Συνόλων στα Μέσα Κοινωνικής Δικτύωσης οι χρήστες θα μπορούν να μεταφέρουν και να μοιράζονται άμεσα τις εντυπώσεις/σκέψεις τους.

Η μετάδοση θα αρχίσει με μια σύντομη συνέντευξη του καλλιτεχνικού διευθυντή του Μεγάρου Μουσικής Αθηνών και διεθνούς φήμης πιανίστα Γιάννη Βακαρέλη στην παρουσιάστρια της βραδιάς Αλεξάνδρα Γιαλίνη, καθώς και με σύντομο χαιρετισμό του καταξιωμένου συνθέτη και μέλους του Δ.Σ. της ΕΡΤ Δημήτρη Παπαδημητρίου.

Τα Μουσικά Σύνολα της ΕΡΤ ανοίγουν το πρόγραμμα της συναυλίας στο Αίθριο του Μεγάρου Μουσικής με τα έγχορδα της Εθνικής Συμφωνικής Ορχήστρας να παρουσιάζουν την «Σερενάτα για έγχορδα», έργο 48 του Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893). Πρόκειται για ένα από τα ομορφότερα έργα του ρωσικού Ρομαντισμού που καθηλώνει με το μελωδικό και συναισθηματικό του πλούτο, αποτελώντας δικαίως μία από τις αγαπημένες δημιουργίες του συνθέτη.

Το έργο που φέρει έντονες επιρροές από τον Μότσαρτ και περιέχει το δημοφιλές βαλς στο δεύτερο μέρος του, γράφτηκε το Φθινόπωρο του 1880 και έκανε πρεμιέρα στις 30 Οκτωβρίου του 1881 στην Αγία Πετρούπολη, ενθουσιάζοντας το ακροατήριο. Λέγεται δε, ότι ο Tchaikovsky δέχτηκε περήφανος τα συγχαρητήρια του μεγάλου πιανίστα και συνθέτη Anton Rubinstein ο οποίος υπήρξε δάσκαλος του. Το σύνολο εγχόρδων της ΕΣΟ διευθύνει ο Μιχάλης Οικονόμου.

Εκτός από το σύνολο εγχόρδων της Εθνικής Συμφωνικής Ορχήστρας της ΕΡΤ, συμμετέχει το Κουαρτέτο Εγχόρδων Αθηνών, (Απόλλων Γραμματικόπουλος και Παναγιώτης Τζιώτης – βιολί, Πάρις Αναστασιάδης – βιόλα και Ισίδωρος Σιδέρης – τσέλο) το οποίο θα παρουσιάσει στον Κήπο του Μεγάρου, αποσπάσματα από γνωστές συνθέσεις των Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonín Dvořák. Θα ακουσθούν επίσης μεταγραφές αγαπημένων jazz μελωδιών του Αμερικανού George Gershwin και γνωστών τσιγγάνικων tango του Δανού Jacob Gade.

Στη συνέχεια στο Αίθριο των Μουσών θα ακουσθούν δημοφιλή αποσπάσματα από όπερες, μιούζικαλ και τραγούδια φημισμένων συνθετών. Η σοπράνο Χριστίνα Πουλίτση, ο βαρύτονος Τάσης Χριστογιαννόπουλος και ο μπάσος Χριστόφορος Σταμπόγλης θα ερμηνεύσουν άριες και ντουέτα από τα λυρικά έργα «Ρωμαίος και Ιουλιέττα» του Charles Gounod, «Σταχτοπούτα» και ο Τούρκος στην Ιταλία του Gioacchino Rossini, καθώς και το τραγούδι «Musica proibita» («Απαγορευμένη μουσική») του Stanislao Gastaldon.

Το ρεσιτάλ των τριών διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένων σολίστ, ολοκληρώνεται με δύο αποσπάσματα από τα δημοφιλή μιούζικαλ Les Miserables και Kiss Me Kate. Τούς πλαισιώνει ο διακεκριμένος πιανίστας Δημήτρης Γιάκας.

Η βραδιά θα ολοκληρωθεί με το George Kontrafouris Trio. Ο κήπος του Μεγάρου, υποδέχεται τον σπουδαίο πιανίστα και τους συνεργάτες του, τον κοντραμπασίστα Κίμωνα Καρούτζο και τον σολίστ των τυμπάνων Jason Wastor, οι οποίοι θα παρουσιάσουν συνθέσεις του Γιώργου Κοντραφούρη, («Τhe Passing», «Deep South») της Σαβίνα Γιαννάτου και της Τζέσσικα Ουίλλιαμς. Στην πρώτη ανήκει η σύνθεση «Αιώρα», ενώ στη δεύτερη το κομμάτι με τίτλο « Τhe Quilt».

Την συναυλία θα παρουσιάσει η μουσικός και παραγωγός του Τρίτου Προγράμματος Αλεξάνδρα Γιαλίνη.

Publicamos una edición limitada en la que por primera vez se presentan conjuntamente el CD y DVD del homenaje del tenor alemán Jonas Kaufmann a la cultura italiana. El gran éxito obtenido por Dolce Vitatras su publicación en 2016 se reedita ahora en doble formato para que el sabor de las eternas canciones italianas cantadas por “el mejor tenor del mundo” (The Daily Telegraph) pueda ser apreciado en toda su dimensión.

Kaufmann ha mantenido un vínculo muy especial con Italia desde su juventud. Al haber crecido en la ciudad alemana que está más al sur del país, Múnich, él y su familia solían pasar sus vacaciones en Italia. Allí absorbió mucho más que el idioma italiano ya que también se familiarizó con el temperamento mediterráneo, el amor por la buena comida, la moda y el talento, Jonas se siente como en casa en la cultura que ha adoptado.

La magia de una melodía tenor italiana no se encuentra solo en un escenario de ópera. Son muchas las canciones maravillosas que se escribieron para ser cantadas por grandes voces tenores desde finales del siglo XIX y el siglo XX, como Mattinata, que fue dedicada a Enrico Caruso; Non ti scordar di me, que Beniamino Gigli cantó por primera vez en una película de 1935 del mismo título; y Parlami d’amore, Mariù, escrita para ser cantada por el futuro director de cine Vittorio De Sica en la comedia Gli uomini, che mascalzoni.

También se puede escuchar la pasión y belleza de la melodía italiana en canciones napolitanas como Torna a Surriento, Core ’ngrato y Passione. Incluso, algunas de las canciones pop de hoy en día también poseen el sello inconfundible de la italianità, por ejemplo Un amore così grande, que Mario Del Monaco cantó y grabó por primera vez en 1976, o Caruso de Lucio Dalla y la canción de Romano Musumarra escrita especialmente para Luciano Pavarotti, Il canto.

Jonas presenta su tributo personal a una cultura en la que la influencia y belleza de la ópera sobrepasa las paredes de los teatros. Jonas grabó el álbum en Palermo con el director Asher Fisch y la Orchestra del Teatro Massimo di Palermo, que aportan su estilo naturalmente italiano a esta música. Este verano Kaufmann volverá a grabar para Sony el mismo programa durante los conciertos que tiene previsto ofrecer en Berlín.
