Just a Moment Too Soon
Cold Compress | Infection | “I don’t feel so good”
Ao Lie has planned a very special day to spend with his beloved partner Sun Wukong and surely nothing with go awry. Especially not the burning sensation deep within his chest, that would be nonsense...
(Partly inspired by all of the stableboys art @dr-chalk posts so that's fun :P )
Ao3 Link
Ao Lie meditated peacefully in one of his family’s many, many palaces in peace– although this one was above sea level. There was a reason for that though, as he was expecting a visit from his dearest, dearest partner Sun Wukong. Just thinking about his visit made Ao Lie get a little more excited, ruining his meditation. Not that he minded of course; Wukong meant the world to him.
Slowly, the dragon prince rose to his feet, his knees trembling, but he persisted nonetheless, coming to a full stand all by himself– something that was only getting rarer and rarer these days.
Ao Lie shook his head. His dearest partner was going to visit today, he was not going to get washed up in his sorrows.
Not yet anyways…
Despite the prince’s attempts at composing himself, he still scratched at dry and itchy scales on his hands and arms as he paced the grand entrance– which was ridiculous because this was fine. It was a regular visit; Wukong would arrive and he’d get to talk about his wife and children excitedly and Wukong would talk about his ventures with Sha Wujing or Zhu Bajie or how his grand-monkeys were doing and they’d laugh and have tea and reminisce on old times and it’d be perfect and everything he dreamt of…
It would be perfect.
Another deep breath.
Ao Lie looked down at his hands, seeing how many scales he’d peeled off and sighing. Perhaps if he were in his dragon form this could be seen as him just preparing for a usual shed, but no. There was something much more sinister present and burning deep, deep, deep within his very core.
River denizens were never meant to hold fire.
Just then, there was a strong breeze that shook Ao Lie’s curtains and robes, making him laugh as he saw flashes of orange circle his palace. He raced to the window, seeing the orange flash circle the palace twice more before the creature landed on the railing of his balcony. He didn’t stay for long though, doing a backflip off before running up to the prince and embracing him tight.
“Ao Lie! It’s been too long! How’s the old place holding up? Any new nieces or nephews for me? How’s your uncle holding up? Still mad at me, right? Ah– it’s just so great to see you again,” Wukong hugged him tighter before stepping back with a big grin on his face as Ao Lie laughed.
“It’s good to see you too, Wukong, I’ve missed you,” Ao Lie chuckled, kissing the monkey’s forehead.
“R-right! Yes– it– yes, I’ve… missed you too,” Wukong blushed, which made the dragon laugh as he invited Wukong to a room with pillows and a tea tray set up for the two of them, along with assorted snacks for them to enjoy while they enjoyed the view of the gardens.
“So, how has Flower Fruit Mountain been holding up these last one hundred years?” The prince asked, pouring Wukong some tea he’d set out.
“Ah, the monkeys are doing great– lots of adventuring and trying to emulate their king, of course, but it’s also just a good time all around. The peaches have been especially ripe this century, you should really stop by to try them,” Wukong invited with a coy grin.
“Oh, you know I can’t do that, I’ve a family of rambunctious little dragons to care for,” The prince excused himself carefully.
“Oh. Right, yeah, of course– say, how many of them are there now?” Wukong ate a handful of melon seeds.
“Seven– almost eight,” Ao Lie chuckled, pouring tea for himself now. “There’s Jianwen, Zhengde, Feiyan, Zhi, Lun, Lihua, and Fuling.”
“Geez, I’m a little behind on presents aren’t I?” Wukong scratched the back of his neck.
Ao Lie chuckled. “It’s alright, I haven’t been the best at reaching out these past fifty years or so,” he shrugged as he set down the teapot.
“Hey, at least you’ve been doing better than I have since–... Sanzang,” Wukong scratched his neck.
Ao Lie winced. “You’ve been doing better though, right? After all, you actually came these last three times; you used to refuse my invitations at all until I could get Wujing and Bajie to agree to come over too.”
“Right– I have,” Wukong nodded. “Sorry, I– I still miss him sometimes.”
“We all do,” He offered his hand and the monkey took it, smiling softly, before his eyebrows pressed ever-so-slightly.
“Your… hands– is something wrong?” The monkey king looked up.
“Oh– it’s just been a particularly dry season you know; it’s hard on the skin and scales,” Ao Lie lied, taking his hand back.
“I hope it gets better soon,” Wukong finally took a sip of his tea.
“Thank you, Wukong,” He looked down at his own cup, frowning ever so slightly at his reflection before having a sip.
Relax.
“Sooo… that uncle of yours? He still mad at me or…?” Wukong decided to bring up, making the prince laugh.
“Why do you ask?” The prince chuckled, taking another sip.
“Well– call me crazy, but I was kind of missing some of my old clothes and was wondering if he had anything else similar laying around,” Wukong eyed a candied peach.
“‘Laying around?’” Ao Lie laughed. “Wukong, your clothes were one of a kind– hand sewn upon your arrival because Uncle Guang was so scared!”
“Soooo he still hates me?” Wukong put two and two together.
“I think perhaps he’s come around to the idea of you, but I have a feeling if you’d ever want to ‘pop in for a visit’ you’d need me to be there,” The prince chuckled.
“Bah, who needs that old geezer anyways?” He smirked, his tail twitching playfully.
“You know you could just pay him for the staff and clothes–”
“I don’t have the clothes anymore– why would I pay him for something I don't even own?” Wukong scoffed.
Ao Lie laughed. “You still stole them! And they were one of a kind!.”
“Ah, ‘stole’ is such a strong word, Li-Li,” Wukong shook his head and Ao Lie laughed more, having to set his cup down so he wouldn’t spill it everywhere.
“You’ve changed so much and not a bit, Wukong… it’s nice,” The prince smiled at him softly.
“Yeah, I try,” Wukong smiled too before they both looked out to the garden.
As Ao Lie watched the running water of the small stream, listening to the soft rustle of leaves from trees and other such greenery, and the splashing of koi, he felt something in his chest start to ache– to burn– but the feeling was unfortunately familiar. As carefully and quietly as he could, the prince took deep breaths to help soothe the pains.
“So I’ve told you about my family, what about yours? Oh– and what of the other pilgrims? I do wish I could invite them over more often,” The prince fiddled with the sleeves of his robe.
“Ah, well, the monkeys are doing well– generation… fifteen? Eighteen? I lost track, but either way they’re a great bunch– real adventurous, like I said before,” Wukong sat up a bit with a bit of excitement. “Some of the original adventurers returned too, and all of us swap stories and it’s– it’s just fun. And nice.”
Ao Lie tried to imagine it, and nodded with a smile. “What about Wujing and Bajie? Have you seen them at all?”
“Oh, Wujing visits a lot on his boat. I don’t know how on earth he always manages to traverse the Flaming Mountains but Wujing is Wujing,” Wukong eyed a candied peach again, which Ao Lie gestured for him to take so he popped one in his mouth. “He likes talking about his ventures and whatever heavenly parties he gets invited to that I keep ‘losing’ my invitations to,” the monkey joked about.
“Does heaven still not invite you to things?” Ao Lie asked.
“Ah, they invite me to some things, just not the Peach Festival or wine festivals, which–… yeah, fair,” Wukong laughed and grabbed another candy. “It’s basically like if I have a bad track record with a party, they won’t even pretend to invite me– though Wujing and Guanyin advocate for me on the regular, apparently.”
“That’s nice,” The dragon prince sipped his tea again. “What about Bajie?”
“Psh, that big sap,” Wukong smiled and shook his head. “He writes to me talking about his family sometimes– talks about his new wife a lot too and how she’s the most beautiful pig demon anyone could ever see– apparently he has an infant son, if I remember correctly from his last letter which was–… oh heavens, probably twenty years ago,” Wukong ran his fingers through his fur.
“Not so infant like anymore?” Ao Lie guessed.
“Probably? I’m not up to date on the whole ‘pig demon aging rates’ thing,” Wukong shrugged again. “Anyways, he writes, I sometimes write, it’s nice. We’re busy people though, so it’s… hard seeing each other.”
“He writes to me often about his family too– I had just been wondering if you'd had any luck seeing him in person,” Ao Lie confessed.
“Not since we last talked,” Wukong shrugged. “But hey– there’s always time, you know?”
Ao Lie winced, his chest pain growing, but he took a sip of tea so his guest wouldn’t notice.
Wukong sighed happily, his red eyes glowing softly in the daylight in the way Ao Lie had always admired, even when he was more than a little scared of him. It made him want to reach out, and to braid his fur into a bunch of tiny little braids while the monkey would laugh and wait for him to finish so he could do his hair and it’d be… nice.
But Ao Lie’s hands were weak. Even as he held his teacup, it trembled ever so slightly. He was also sweating like the dogs in the fields, but he was sure Wukong couldn’t tell through all the layers of silk he wore.
Wukong couldn’t notice. He was here to have a good time, a nice chat. He was not here to be reminded of a simple mistake from hundreds of years ago because that’s all that was, a mistake and a sacrifice, nothing more and nothing worse.
Wukong looked back at him and smiled. “You feeling alright?”
“Oh, Wukong, you know I’m always in the best of spirits whenever you visit,” He chuckled, scratching at his scales once again, which his partner noticed.
“I could talk to the weather gods about the dryness if you’d like– get them to get their act together for your sake,” Wukong offered, which just about made his heart melt.
“You’re a peach, Wukong,” The prince leaned and kissed his cheek. “But that isn’t necessary.”
Wukong frowned. “You’re more uncomfortable than you’re willing to tell me.”
Ao Lie blinked. “Is it a crime to not want to focus on such things with company over?” he forced a weak smile, but the burning increased with his anxiety.
“No, but you’re not supposed to be uncomfortable, unless you’re hurt– Are you? Did someone hurt you? Who? What was their name? What did they look like? I’ll find them for you, I swear–” Wukong reached for his staff but the prince quickly grabbed his arm.
“Nobody has hurt me, Wukong, I’m alright,” He mustered up the gentlest smile he could.
Wukong sighed. “I wasn’t going to kill them you know, I know better... if they’re mortal,” He mumbled.
Ao Lie stroked the monkey’s arm with his thumb. “It’s alright, Wukong, really, it is.”
Wukong frowned. “Are you sick? Some kind of–... dragon disease?”
“Moderate shedding is… to be expected around this time of year, especially when I’ve been away from the water for so long,” Ao Lie lied once more.
“Oh, why haven’t you been home?” Wukong asked, seeming to relax, which the prince was thankful for.
“Oh, you know those dusty old bureaucrats. My family don’t really fit in with them– especially the children who take after me,” He waved away.
“Look, I don’t like Ao Guang or Run or Qin or Shun as much as the next guy–”
“You just insulted my father,” The prince pointed out and Wukong’s face turned red.
“Right-! Yeah, no, Ao Run’s great! Love that guy!” Wukong quickly corrected and the prince chuckled. “Well– anyways as much as I dislike your uncles, I wouldn’t say it’s worth your health.”
“Maybe, but I’m not going while you’re here, I enjoy our talks too much to spoil it with all… that,” He struggled keeping up excuses.
“Fair enough, bureaucracy is the worst,” Wukong smiled, grabbing more candied peaches and stretching out to eat them, which Ao Lie copied.
“You know, my cousin Ao Bing and I used to love terrorizing heaven every now and then– until the whole Nezha incident, of course,” He laughed weakly.
“Man, and they didn’t banish you over any terrorizing? That’s unfair,” Wukong shook his head.
“Well I did end up destroying my father’s pearl from the Jade Emperor, which almost got me killed until Guanyin intervened, and Ao Bing got his consequences when he killed Nezha’s friend and Nezha killed him back, so I’d say it’s a little fair,” Ao Lie pointed out, playing with his hair a little.
“Ah, Guanyin… I should really visit her more often,” Wukong laughed a little, rolling onto his side and began playing with the prince’s long white hair too.
“It’d be nice to visit her. Maybe she could tell me where my sister is and why she keeps forgetting to write back,” The prince joked.
“We could plan it! You said you should be free again in… twelve years, right?” Wukong got excited.
“A-ah, um– I don’t think I’ll be free then,” Ao Lie struck down.
“What about fifteen?” The monkey offered. Again, the prince shook his head.
“I’ll think about it, Wukong.”
“Why? I thought you adored your sister,” Wukong was getting suspicious again.
“Wukong, please– let’s just enjoy each other’s company… please?” He was forced to beg, which made the monkey’s face go from anger, to confusion, to a soft smile.
“Of course. I can understand how a family like yours is complicated,” Wukong apologized and calmed himself.
“It’s alright,” Ao Lie sighed and rested on his back, which made the heat rise in a way that was hard to ignore. “I just… I hate this busyness we carry, you know? Oftentimes I envy how well and long you lounge about on that mountain of yours.”
“It’s easier when you don’t have kids or a wife,” Wukong laid on his back too.
Ao Lie glanced at him. “Do you wish you had a wife or children?”
Wukong laughed. “A wife? You kidding me? With what we have, I’ll never need a wife.”
“Ah, I’ll have to tell my missus that,” He teased.
“Oh please, what we have is different, you know that,” Wukong went back to his side.
Ao Lie chuckled. “Maybe~”
“Oh, shut up! You are such a tease!” Wukong grabbed a pillow and smacked him with it.
“Hey! This is my palace!” The prince struggled to protect himself from the pillows but also wasn’t trying that hard– laughing way too much.
Wukong hit him three more times, but as he went for a fourth, he moved the pillow last second and kissed Ao Lie on the lips, which the prince quickly returned.
“If I’m a tease, you’re a scoundrel,” The prince cupped the monkey’s cheek with his hand.
“Alright whatever– as long as you admit you’re a tease,” Wukong kissed the prince’s cheek.
Ao Lie laughed as Wukong got off of him and stood before offering a hand to help the prince to his feet, which he accepted.
However, the second the dragon prince was on his own two feet, the burning in his chest went from mild to excruciating, and quickly he fell to his knees– his hand clutching his chest in a flash as he gasped in pain.
“What the– Lie, what’s wrong?!” Wukong’s eyes darted around the room (no doubt searching for an attacker).
“I– I don’t feel so good,” The prince confessed, sweat dripping down his forehead, as the burning feeling continued to grow and grow at rates it never dared to in the past.
“You’re hurting–! What happened–?! Who did this to you??? I’ll bring them to justice, I promise–”
“Wukong, no– I-I can’t– I won’t let you– ngh–” The prince grabbed his partner’s leg and leaned against it best he could.
“Holy– You’re burning up so much I can feel it through my clothes– we need to take you underwater, and fast–”
“NO!” The prince quickly objected as Wukong scooped him up.
“I don’t care if you protest, we’re going to fix this– you’re going to be okay, okay?” Wukong was defiant and didn’t meet his eye, though the prince could see tears threatening to fall.
“N-no, Wukong, th-they’ll imprison you, th-they’ll–” Ao Lie stopped himself, but Wukong picked up what he was implying.
“Li-Li, why would they imprison me? Is it because I’d be the one bringing you? I-if so, I can get Wujing or your wife or someone– I-I can fix this,” Wukong pleaded.
“W-Wukong, this isn’t your fault– please–” The prince gripped Wukong’s shirt with trembling hands.
“Your temperature is only rising, Lie, what the fuck is going on?” Wukong pleaded with him, but the prince looked away as he curled in agony.
With a frustrated huff, Wukong set the prince down on the pillows they’d used for fighting just a happy second ago, then vanished on his cloud before returning with a bag full of chunks of ice he pressed against the prince’s forehead, though it was useless as it began to melt in seconds.
“W-Wukong please, i-it’ll pass, I promise,” he tried forcing a smile again.
“You know what this is, don’t you?!” Wukong looked angry. “Why won’t you tell me what it is? Why won’t you let me fix this?!”
“B-because you don’t need to fix anything, qin qin,” He weakly lifted his arm to tuck Wukong’s fur back.
“Don’t ‘qin qin’ me, this is serious!” Wukong protested.
Ao Lie winced, every muscle in his body beginning to feel like a flaming, aching inferno as he sweated through all of his five layers of silk.
“I-it’s not your fault, Wukong, i-it’s just mine, okay?” He gave a weak smile as droplets of sweat began to roll nonstop down his forehead.
“What are you talking about?!” Wukong shouted. “What could possibly be my–”
The monkey king froze.
“Wukong… Wukong, please–” The prince whispered, desperately trying to grab his arm, but his partner stood and began to pace the room.
“I– It– No– You’re immortal– Th-that– A-and master– A-and– it was centuries ago– i-it can't–” The monkey king’s voice cracked as his tears were finally allowed to fall.
“Wukong, stay with me, please–!”
“How long has this been going on? Since we left the Mystic Mountain??? Have you been hiding this from me for– for centuries???” Wukong turned around, furious.
“W-Wukong, please– I-I’d never–”
“You won’t even give me the chance to help you– is it because I did this? Is this your– your punishment for me?!” Wukong could barely look at him.
“Wukong, I love you–” The prince reached up again.
“W-well you shouldn’t! This is all so– so fucked up– I-I–” The monkey sobbed, falling to his knees and covering his eyes with his hands.
“Wukong, it’s not your fault! I-I chose to jump in front of master, I-I took on the burden– ngh– willingly,” He managed to grab his hand, and Wukong held it up to his cheek.
“There wouldn’t have been anything to jump in front of if it weren’t for me, it’s my fault you’re suffering– that you’re–”
Wukong’s eyes widened.
“Y…you’re–... you’re dying, Li-Li,” he gave into his sobs once more, pressing the scorching hands even closer to him.
Ao Lie weakly stroked his partner’s cheek with his thumb. “I-I… I think so too… I dreamt of this for… for a long time, but… but never was it so… so sudden… I’m so sorry, qin qin…” he apologized and explained but Wukong wasn’t listening.
“I can’t be alone, Lie– I need you– I love you so, so, so much– I can’t– I can’t lose another person because of my stupid, stupid mistakes,” he shook his head furiously.
“We don’t have a choice, my love,” Ao Lie forced a weak smile, a chill shaking his whole body so Wukong brought him into his arms, making the prince sit half up so it was easier to see and embrace his lover. “I didn’t think it’d be tonight. I-I’ve known the flame’s presence for so long, but the pain– it only grew with time a-and this past decade it’s– it’s been almost unbearable,” Ao Lie laughed through tears that sizzled and turned to steam.
“I can imagine,” Wukong laughed and cried too.
“I didn’t want it to be like this, Qin-qin– I wanted to have a nice day with the person I love. I-I’m so sorry. it isn’t your fault,” Ao Lie grabbed the monkey’s robes tight.
“It should’ve been me– it was my fault– I don’t know why I didn’t even try– I–”
“You could’ve disrupted the spell entirely, and that poor, poor baby would’ve died, don’t be foolish, my love,” The prince pointed out.
“N-no– no, you know what? I’m going to get the others! I-I’m gonna get Nezha and DBK a-and Wujing and Bajie too– w-we can fix this together! You’ll be better in no time!” Wukong smiled at Ao Lie, who just shook his head weakly– the prince finally taking notice of the crimson flames that were starting to leak from his scales.
“Master is gone, Wukong, and I’m going to have to join him,” The prince hated saying it as much as Wukong hated to hear it.
“NO! I-I don’t care what you say– I’m not losing you too,” Wukong stood in protest once again.
“W-Wukong, I’m not mad, really– I forgive you,” The prince smiled, the arm grabbing his robe beginning to shake and tremble violently as a painfully numb feeling spread through his limbs as he noticed the flames growing bigger, and parts of himtransforming to ash.
Wukong fell back to his knees, sobbing as he held Ao Lie closer. “I-I love you, Lie– please don’t go,” He could barely get words out.
“W-Wukong, I need you to promise me– promise me you’ll forgive yourself?” Ao Lie urged, watching his feet start to disappear in terror.
Wukong shook his head. “I can’t… so please– stay so I don’t have to,” He tried wiping away some of Ao Lie’s sweat, but the heat was getting intense even for him.
“T-the fire– i-it won’t die with me– It’ll be passed down– Wukong– Wukong please protect them– my baby– th-they’ll carry the fourth ring– make sure no one knows, o-okay? Protect my kin, don’t let anything bad happen to them, okay?” Ao Lie attempted a second promise.
“Wh-what? A fourth–? There wasn’t supposed to be– oh Lie, I’m so sorry,” Wukong apologized again for the millionth time and held Ao Lie in a way that he could bury his head into his shoulder.
“I-it’s okay, Wukong, i-it’s okay, I forgive you, o-okay? So don’t hate yourself– it’s okay,” His voice cracked weakly.
Wukong sniffled, shaking his head a bit. “I… I can’t–”
“Wukong… I’m dying. I’m sorry, but I-I am,” He smiled weakly again. “I love you so much– but I’m going… promise me you’ll be okay, okay? And that you’ll take care, a-and– and you won’t forget me, okay?” The prince chuckled weakly, trying to lift his arm again, but his fingers were fading too.
“I could never forget you, Li-Li, y-you’re my everything,” it was Wukong’s turn to stroke his cheek, and the prince kissed his hand.
“I’m sorry it had to end like this, my love– but that’s– that’s just how it goes sometimes, isn’t it?” He let out a weak laugh as numbness spread through his legs.
“I-it’s okay– I f-forgive you too,” Wukong struggled repeating his words back to him, but the prince smiled.
“Good,” The dying dragon smiled and Wukong suddenly kissed him, which the prince quickly returned twice as passionately and desperately, feeling the numbness complete take over, despite his desperation to stay in that moment forever.
But he didn’t get a choice, and in a matter of moments Ao Lie, Third Son of the Dragon King of the West Sea, was dead and gone.

BAH HAB
au where ao lie lives because mei is most definitely not a reincarnation of him and like wukong takes up the responsibility of being a mentor except he's dumber and less confident and goes running to wukong for help because surely his best friend totally not boyfriend has experience with this..
except well. wukong doesn't, because look at mk screaming his throat raw, so now they have to use their heads to be really awesome mentors and with ao lie around wukong is definitely much better but the same can't be said for ao lie cause his kid likes setting everything on fire and he wants to sob

Sooooo, there's alot of ship/duo names in lmk. So i thought, hey maybe i should compile all of them into one post! Shouldn't be too hard, right?
Haha anyways, just some things to note : most ships/duo names will have two or more names due to it being somewhat obscure ( and sometimes kinda problematic, but i'm adding it either way ). history stopped in 1936
Tumblr media
Javi G x F!Reader
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 2.6k
Warnings: Angst, Spanish Civil War AU, war and its horrors, brief and vague descriptions of sex, it's implied that Javi and reader are speaking Spanish the entire time, references to drinking and smoking, unbeta'd so please be gentle!
Summary: The Spanish Civil War threatens the slice of paradise you and Javi have found together. (AO3)
A/N: Hoo boy. This was written for @studioghibelli's writing challenge, and the moment I saw the moodboard, I knew I wanted to do something Atonement-inspired. You don't need to know who the opposing sides were in the war, but if you'd like to learn more, I'd recommend George Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia". The title comes from an essay of his. As always my love to @misscharlielulu for her support.
Mallorca, August 1936
Spain burns and, across the Balearic Sea, rumours are carried like ash on the wind.
You and Javier had fled Barcelona in the middle of the night, just after St Jordi’s Day. The streets had still been littered with rose petals as you had made your way to the docks, and the waiting ship. The atmosphere in Barcelona had grown tense, shimmering with electricity like the air just before a thunderstorm.
In July, your fears had been vindicated when news trickled across the sea, whispers of a violent uprising. Nobody could say for certain who had seized power – the anarchists, the communists, the Carlists, or some as-yet-unknown political spectre.
By contrast to the news reports that trickled over from the mainland, Mallorca felt safe. The ocean separating the island from the peninsula made the war feel further away, something that was happening in another world. Even when Barcelona fell or when, days later, Franco invaded with his African army in Seville - it all felt so far away, separated by miles of sparkling blue water.
On your island sanctuary, you and Javi managed to find a measure of happiness. Reminders of the war were never far away, and you were all probably smoking and drinking too much, but it didn’t matter. You could still watch movies on the projection reel he’d bought before he met you. Tucked up against Javi’s side, watching Clark Gable or Errol Flynn, you could forget the war on the mainland entirely.
It was only when the war came to Mallorca that you realised how deluded you had been.
With censored newspapers and downed radio communications, rumours run like wildfire across the island. Days after Seville falls, the stableboys hear that the Republicans have landed on the east coast – the housekeeper tells Marta that it’s Russians sent by Stalin, and the man who delivers the mail insists its Italians. There’s fighting in the streets of Palma and to the ports in the east, but nobody can agree on who exactly is fighting who.
You clean up after breakfast, a hastily made pa amb tomàquet that masks the staleness of the bread. Even for a family as rich as the Gutierrez’s, you cannot waste food anymore.
They say the fighting is in Palma, and Porto Cristo. Drawn onto a map, the Gutierrez villa would form the apex of the triangle; it’s about as far away from the fighting as you can get while still being on dry land. You try to breathe. It’s just another Tuesday morning. You’re breaking leftover breadcrusts into a bowl for the dogs when Javi appears.
“Leave that, my love. Come out into the garden with me?” He asks, wrapping a large hand around your wrist. You don’t need much convincing; you wipe your hands down on a towel and twine your fingers with your husband’s as you walk out across the patio to the greenery beyond.
The gardens are a riot of colour. In the hazy, golden light of summer, the colours seem almost over-saturated. It’s a world away from the dark, medieval splendour of Barcelona. Foxgloves and red poppies and bright marigolds fill the carefully planned beds around the pond, a riot of Technicolour hues that somehow work beautifully in concert.
In the sunlight, Javi’s curls look gilded; he glows, in spite of the anxiety furrowing his brow. A stone bench sits beneath a gazebo, and he leads you over there. The wooden structure is heavy with jasmine; the smell perfumes the air, blending with the salt of the nearby sea.
“Is something wrong, Javi? Is it Marta?” You ask, worry colouring your voice. Javi’s mother, Marta, was a complicated woman. She had loathed Lucas, her nephew by marriage, but had been unable to get out of bed for days when news had reached her that he had been taken into Montjuïc Castle as a prisoner. Even across the ocean, you had come to know that nobody came out of Montjuïc alive.
Javi shakes his head, his hand cupping your elbow as he guides you to sit down on the bench beside him. Even now, it’s unlike him to look so morose.
“I’ve been talking to my father.” This much you already knew. One of the stableboys had come to fetch Javi in the middle of breakfast: his father had requested his son ride out with him. Whatever they discussed, it’s knocked your husband’s relentless optimism, and that worries you more than anything.
You hold Javi’s hands and wait patiently for him to tell you what’s bothering him, but he seems unable to find the words. Your mind careers from calamity to disaster in his silence. Someone somewhere has issued a warrant for Javi’s arrest. The army is on the move and will reach the cliffs by nightfall. His father, Jordi, has had another heart attack.
“My father- that is, my father and I-” Javier starts. You squeeze his fingers, your heart beating a rapid tattoo in your rising panic.
“Please, Javi, just tell me,” you plead. He looks out over the cliffs and his shoulders slump resignedly.
“My father thinks you should leave.” A punch to the gut could not have winded you more. You sit there, blinking at him like an idiot, unable to understand what he just said.
“My father thinks you need to leave, and I do too.” He turns away from the ocean, cupping your face in his hand and forcing you to look into your eyes. “You need to leave Mallorca, leave Spain. Tonight if possible.”
“You want to send me away?” You manage, sounding rather more pathetic than you’d hoped. Javi shakes his head, his lovely brown eyes full of sorrow.
“I want you to be safe. And it’s not safe here, not for you.”
“It’s no more dangerous for me than-”
“It is more dangerous for you. The worst thing they do to men is shoot them.” The unspoken implication hangs unpleasantly in the air. Javi sighs and glances back towards the house. “My father thinks he can persuade my mother to leave.” You want to scream. You want to ask who made Jordi such an authority, who made him king of his own tiny dominion and gave him the power to dismiss you.
In your gut, you know Javier’s father is right. He’s been weathering the storms of Spanish politics since before you were born, a wily fox of a man who had declared months ago that the political powderkeg was about to explode.
“I won’t leave you,” you insist, your voice firmer now. Jordi might be right; an army will come here someday. But you’d rather face them than abandon your family. “Until death do us part, Javi.”
“Please, sweetheart. It would only be for a little while. The war can’t last forever.” He manages a smile; a soft, crooked grin that wants to make you give in. You’d do so much to make him smile again.
“Your father will never get Marta to leave. She won’t leave him, and you won’t leave them.” The half-smile falls from Javi’s face.
“They’re old, sweetheart. I need to take care of them. But you – you’re strong. I know you can do this. You’ll go somewhere safe, and as soon as we’ve weathered this storm, you’ll come back.” Both of his hands are cupping your face now. Somewhere overhead, seagulls are screaming. His optimism makes you want to scream too.
“No, Javi, no, I can’t-” you start again, clutching his wrists in your hands.
“You can, you must,” he talks over you. In frustration you pull away, marching over the grass towards the house. One of Marta’s cats yowls at you as you pass it, pleading for attention, but you’re too upset to pay it any mind. Javi is hot on your heels, by turns pleading and stern. The door to your bedroom bangs against the wall as you fling it open.
You want space, but Javi won’t give it to you. He’s in your face, his hands roaming over you, clutching at your shoulders, your arms, your wrists. His rosy view of the world had been charming when you’d first met – now it makes you angry beyond words.
“I’m not leaving you,” you insist sharply, bringing your hands up to push your husband away from you. His hands circle your wrists instead, refusing to let you escape. “I’m not leaving you!” You repeat it in English, in your broken Catalan, in French. You tell him over and over in as many languages as you know, all the while struggling to break free of his hold.
The kiss takes you by surprise. He keeps one hand at your wrists; the other cups the back of your head. There’s no elegance to the kiss. He presses his mouth to yours, full lips meeting your own, your breath mingling with his. You’d almost think he’d done it deliberately to throw you off balance, if not for the surprised little intake of breath he makes.
“You are leaving tonight,” he says, once he’s broken the kiss. His fingertips grip the nape of your neck, your foreheads press together. You try to shake your head against his, but his hand at your neck grips tighter. “If I have to throw you into the boat myself, you’re leaving tonight.”
“I’ll hate you forever if you do.” It’s a childish assertion. His soft brown eyes fill with quiet devastation, and you immediately want to take it back.
“I’d rather have you hate me and survive than love me and die.” The two of you grapple again; him trying to keep his hold on you as you try to escape his grip. You have no real notion of why you want to break free – you could hardly hide in a cabinet until he gave up and allowed you to stay.
When the two of you tumble back onto the bed, it is an accident. You had tried to kick out with your legs, but had only succeeded in knocking you both off balance. His arms wrap around you as you lie on top of him, doing your best to squirm free and failing miserably.
You and Javi rarely argue. Any petty squabbles you do have are usually easily and quickly resolved. And when you do fight, you’ve gotten used to burning out that tension with sex.
So it feels like the most natural thing in the world to start pulling his shirtfront open. He takes your cue, his hands falling from your wrists and setting to work on the buttons of your dress. There’s a frantic energy to you both; for all you had been fighting him before, you can’t pull him close enough now. Your hands itch with the need to touch him, to memorise every inch and curve of him before he sends you away.
You sink your fingers into his curls and drag him down closer. It’s not making love, not the soft, slow sex that you and Javi usually have. This is something harsher, more demanding. The bedframe rattles with the force of your movements, and you know you should be embarrassed. The servants or Javi’s parents could hear, your actions unmistakable when the noise of the bed combines with the moans escaping from you both.
When you’ve both come, and are lying satiated in each other’s arms, the fire has gone out of your conversation. Javi rests his head on your breasts, humming contentedly as you play with his curls. You admire the Monet painting that faces the bed, the hazy floral landscape that you wish for all the world you and your husband could escape into. The canvas lilies almost seem to sway in the breeze with the haze of heat rising through the room.
“What if you forget me?” You say softly. As much as you know Javi loves you, you can’t deny that the thought scares you. That you will leave, but after long years of war, Javi will have moved on. He’ll find some pretty Mallorquin girl that never went into exile and never come to rescue you from your banishment.
“I could never forget you,” Javi says, tilting his head back to look at you. Those beautiful eyes of his are so full of sorrow that you want to cry yourself.
“You say that. What if this war lasts as long as the Great War? Longer?”
“It doesn’t matter. ‘If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever’,” he says in English.
“Byron?” You ask, and he shakes his head. Of course he would quote poetry at a time like this.
“Tennyson. It’s true. I could fill the whole island with flowers, all the thinking of you I shall do while we’re parted.” Javi’s hands rest on your thighs, his thumbs stroking lazy circles onto your skin.
“Wouldn’t that be something to behold. A whole island, full of flowers. You could live four lifetimes and never run out of scenery to paint.”
“I would write to you every day, you know,” Javier manages eventually. You know he would. Javi has always had an excellent turn of phrase – there were half-drafted screenplay ideas all over your apartment in Barcelona.
“And one letter in twenty might reach me,” you retort. The postal service hasn’t exactly been running efficiently of late, never mind the inevitable censorship everything seems to be going through.
“I would keep you here with me if there was any way I could be sure you’d be safe.” He says gently, and you sigh. “And I would like you to go willingly. But you’re going either way, I’m afraid.” Even issuing orders, there’s undeniable tenderness to it.
“Between the both of us, we might fill all of Europe with flowers.” You try to imagine it; two paths of flowers creeping across the continent, growing every time you and Javi think of one another.
“The whole world, even.” Javier clutches a little tighter at your thighs, and you can hear tears thickening his voice. You hold each other tighter, and you know now that neither of you will loosen your grip until the very last moment.
****
Later, there will be a forget-me-not pressed into your hand as you and Javi say your final goodbyes at the dock. Your clothes are weighted down by the money and jewellery sewn into the hems, but it’s the flower you treasure the most. You refuse to cry as you sail away; you stare insistently at the dock, long after Javier has faded from your sight. You know he’ll be doing the same, standing on the pier and keeping a watchful eye on the horizon until the sky starts to lighten with the dawn.
Later, in spite of your denials, there will be letters. Javi writes to you often, mostly of trivial, household matters that won’t be censored. In every one he tells you how the gardens are growing. In every one, there is a flower drawn into the margin. You hoard them like a dragon hoards gold; when your homesickness makes you feel physically ill, you surround yourself with his letters and tracing the lines of his pen.
Later, there will be a screenplay. It’s smuggled off the island and brought directly to you by a man who only speaks brusque Catalan, and you nearly weep just to hear the language spoken again. The screenplay bears a pseudonym – Javier Peña – but every line is clearly your Javi’s work. It tells of a great love story flourishing in the face of a brutal war, of love conquering all. You cry over the last twenty pages, a handkerchief clasped to your face so you don’t smudge the ink.
Later, the war will end. Spain will survive, though she will not be saved. You will never walk through a garden of flowers without thinking of Javi.
****
“But what really happened? The answer is simple: the lovers survive and flourish.” – Ian McEwan, Atonement

smth that i find really funny is how the ship/duo name for ao lie and sun wukong is stableboys. not only because there's stuff like shadowpeach, dragonfruit, etc, and then there's just. stableboys. but also bc jttw wukong would be outraged at being called a stable boy

Shadowpeach really be hitting me in the shipping department. These mf's are soulmates fr.
I can't even decide how these two met.
Did they have an Adam and Eve-esque meeting as little monkeys that blossomed throughout their childhoods?
Did the Moon fall from his home among the stars, into the arms of the Sun?
Did Sun Wukong, while training to be a monk under Subodhi; get jumped by the most beautiful feral demon he'd ever seen Princess Mononoke-style?
Did the Imperial Palace's new stableboy and garden attendant catch eachother's eyes from across the courtyard? Did they meet amongst the Brotherhood - Both stunned in finally meeting somebody of their kind?
Have they simply Known that the other existed from the moment they were brought into creation?
Any of these are possible.

Sorry to argue prev here, but it is frustrating to see people suggest Helaegon vs Helaemond ship war has always been prominent. That’s not the case. I have been in the Greencest trenches since Oct 22 (shoutout) and it was not at all the way it is right now or how it’s become over the last few months. Most, if not all, of the people writing fic and meta and drawing fanart back then also were interested in Helaegon and Aegond, along with Aligon, Alimond, Helicent, or even Rhaegon. The most popular Greens art on Twitter has always been Helaegond as a trio, or the three of them and Alicent. This is absolutely born of incessant infighting and unfortunately it’s harmed everyone as a whole, because it only drives away artists and writers. There is so much less content this season then there was in season one; I’m sure some of it is due to the show’s poor writing, yes, but I do not believe that is all of it. You can’t discuss Aegon as an inattentive husband without being called a delusional Helaemond fan, and you can’t talk about Aemond’s inability to get over his childhood bullying without someone saying you’re an Aegon stan. It sucks.
Just as a correction (SPOILERS!) Aemond doesn’t talk about warmth, he tells Helaena they have “a truer call to heed” i.e, this is their role as dragon riders. But you also now can’t discuss either of the leaked scenes without it being about how abusive Aemond or Aegon are to her. As you said, the real problem is Helaena isn’t even Helaena. She’s some blank slate who miraculously knows how her family will end up and doesn’t care to do a thing about it. But that is lost in the dumbass ship wars.
Thanks for reading and sorry it’s so long ❤️ I am PRAYING hiatus is kinder to people who want to explore these dynamics in ways the show clearly will never give us
hey 💚
i think the truth is somewhere in the middle. i do remember a lot of green multi-shippers who enjoyed a wide variety back in the day, BUT. i have to say. that my inbox was also besieged by anti helaemonds as soon as december 2022, so you know 😭😂 it's always been a contentious ship
i think the helaegon v helaemond "wars" came later in 2023 when people were getting bored. i could probably check the dates in my blog but it's kind of tedious and, anyways, it's been a talking point for quite some time now
but, yeah, coming back to the issue: the true impediment to ANY ship involving helaena is that she is barely a character. it was passable after S1 because she was part of the new generation and introduced later, but now we've had an entire season in which they've given us nothing in regards to her. what is the difference between the helaena of now and the helaena of S01E09? the truth is that she is not shown to care about either of her brothers. she barely cares about her mother or daughter. her son = who?
all the cool things about helaemond and helaegon are imagined by fans. not writing helaena with romantic attachments is one thing, but writing helaena as a living statue is entirely another. anything is better than this. helaena/the stableboy scenarios at least would involve helaena having 1 emotion and making an independent decision (not that she needs to have a relationship to function as a character but we are scraping the bottom of the barrel here. she doesn't even benefit from the cliches of female characters)

Ok, here are something thoughts about Assassin’s Fate :)
I have mixed feelings. Overall, this was a wonderful book with a lovely and devastating ending. But there were some things that bothered me. (It’s still a 5 star book to me but I’m a nitpick)
Things that bothered me first.
There were a lot of characters in this book, and Fitz’s perspective was too limited for them to earn their place in the story.
Kennitsson bothered me the most. His could have been a story of him rejecting the legacy of his father and trying to make things right. There was hints of him trying to be his own man but his character was not explored enough for me to really care when he eventually sacrifices himself for Paragon.
A lot of the other Liveship characters suffered from this as well. It was so nice to see Althea, Brashen, Wintrow, Etta and Clef again, but after the initial excitement, it kind of became a sort of… now what? Paragon’s return was the only one that really felt impactful because he actually has a purpose in the story.
Out of the youngsters that join Fitz and Beloved, Spark and Per were fun characters but can someone please tell me what Lant’s purpose in this story was? Spark and Per are fun little reflection of baby Fitz (an assassin’s apprentice and a stableboy) and they both did stuff, but I feel like I spent this entire story waiting for Lant to do something!!! I like him as a character but why was he there????
The one other thing that bothered me was the fake out death from Fitz in the tunnel. My guy had already been shot by the worm dart. He was dying either way. If anything, I think it would have been way more impactful for him to get back to Buck with Bee - all the while Nighteyes is trying to tell him somethings wrong. Fitz, who acts delusional as if he’s getting paid to do so, dismisses the worries and think he’s won, all for him to finally accept it once he sees Bee safe again in Buckkeep. Idk, I just always hate an unnecessary death fakeouts.
But let’s stop being so negative because this book had so much good in it!!!!
Fitz encountering the Paragon was a moment I’ve been waiting for since Amber carved his face and it did not disappoint!! I too would threaten anyone who tried to take Amber from me - Paragon, you’re a real one.
Paragon in general was a joy. Him turning into a dragon was a real bittersweet moment (because it left Althea and Brashen without their ship and took away their escape route from Clerres) but if anyone deserved to choose his own fate, it was him. The revelation of what wizardwood is was so haunting in Liveships, and to see them reclaim their proper form was incredible.
Also, we know Mercor was Maulkin, and I’m a firm believer of the Heeby/Shreever theory (cause if I accept she never made it I will simply die :)), and to know that Tarman (who was improved with Sessurea’s corpse) maybe decided to become a dragon as well, therefore reuniting the three main serpents from liveships, makes me so unbelievably happy.
Moving away from the Liveship characters, god I love Bee. I love Bee much. What a gal. She is so like her mother and three fathers (her parentage is completely insane). I loved her relationship with Wolf Father - who was a better father than Fitz or the Fool, and he is a dead wolf :).
Had it not been for Vindeliar, she fully would have escaped on her own. Dwalia was no where near a match for my girl. She out here biting people and running away and being cryptic. What I loved most, was that she manages to overcome the one thing that has always gotten the best of fitz - she was able to let go of the past. She got the real vengeance against clerres and the servants by burning the scrolls. Without her, Fitz would not have reminded the dragon’s of what the servants did to them, and they never would have come to finish what she started. She is the character ever. The destroyer.
Beloved was a character Ihad complicated feelings about in this book. I need to make it very clear, I love him. I love this character with all my heart. However, there were times in this that I didn’t like him very much. I know that’s because we’re seeing him through fitz’s perceptive (and fitz does not like Amber) and because he has gone through so much, but it still made me a little sad. Obviously, he’s not gonna be his old self when he’s heading back to the place where he was imprisoned and tortured for twenty years, and I can’t blame him for that.
He still had some incredible lines and moments though, and I’ll always be a sucker for Fitzloved.
That brings us to Fitz. Jeez man. He is my favourite character of all time. There is no question about it. No one else even comes close. He acts admirably in this book, and I really feel like he had grown so much since being the loner who lived in a cottage in the forest. He wasn’t always the best father, but in this quest, he did his very best. I’m proud of him.
To me, he will always be that little boy :’)
This story was always going to end with him dying - if that’s how you wanna view him going into the wolf. Fitz is incapable of staying out of the world of Buckkeep politics. He can’t run from a fight, or from the crown, or from who he is. He was never going to be able to settle down and have a simple life - as much as he deserves one.
And of course, we had to have one frustrating piece of miscommunication between fitz and the fool.
‘He hasn’t offered to come into the wolf with me so I won’t ask him.’ vs ‘He hasn’t asked me to go into the wolf with him so i won’t offer to.’
God these guys will put me into an early grave. I adore them.
Bee literally had to shout at Beloved to stop being stupid, he obviously loves you!!!! God.
And that final line… Fitz, Beloved, and Nighteyes, joined as one, watching over Bee from the shadows. And Kettricken smiling knowingly.
I think the mountain kingdom will be a better place for Bee than Buckkeep. It’s nice to see a Farseer finale sort of escape that pull. And I would trust Kettricken with my life so I hope she’s up to the task.

"Yet was fear of Vhagar the only reason Prince Daemon kept Nettles close to him? Mushroom would have us believe it was not. By the dwarf’s account, Daemon Targaryen had come to love the small brown bastard girl, and had taken her into his bed."
when was it said that Daemon loved Rhaenyra? or suggested in the book? every time they talk about them it's about lust, ambition, cruelty and emotional dependence on her part.
Daemon Targaryen was not a faithful consort to the queen, we know
It is literally written. Queen Maegor was never the only one for Daemon.
None of this constitutes proof that Daemon Targaryen had carnal knowledge of the bastard girl, but in light of what followed we must surely judge that more likely than most of Mushroom’s tales.
Here we have a skeptical old archismeistte believing in Mushroom's "nonsense", despite him debating that Nettles was not Daemon's "type" aka classism feat racism. That's because their goodbye was purposely made to be romantic and painful. Daemon's anguish at letting Nettles go was so great that Caraxes expressed it for him.As far as I can remember, the only other time it is mentioned that a dragon shares its master's strong emotions is coincidentally with Daemon's mirror: Aemond in two different occasions
By the time the stableboys finally arrived to pull apart the combatants, the prince was writhing on the ground, howling in pain, and Vhagar was roaring as well.
and this
Guardsmen walking the battlements of the castle’s mighty curtain walls clutched their spears in sudden terror when she woke with a roar that shook the very foundations of Durran’s Defiance. Even Arrax quailed before that sound, we are told, and Luke plied his whip freely as he forced him down.
She knew that Aemond hated Luke and reacted to it frighteningly threatening, just as Caraxes knew that Daemon truly loved Nettles and reacted to the pain of separation. GRRM isn't very good at writing great love stories, but he accidentally got it right here
The breakdown 🙌🏽
Tumblr media
Great point about the love thing. F&B mentions Daemon loving two women, Laena then Nettles). The book also mentions Rhaenyra loving him, but never Daemon loving her(which is why he was cheating on her and ultimately abandoned her to save the actual woman he loved🤷🏽‍♀️).
If you look at how the entirety of their relationship is described Dettles is written like a romance,(right down to their parting scene) yet even the most blatant romantic tropes are ignored and discarded to prop up a ship that isn't supposed to be romantic.

WEEK 2 MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Second and final week of this year's fest is done! Here is our week 1 masterlist if you still need to catch up.
It brought us photoshoots and murder mysteries, Hogwarts professors after hours, stableboys in summer courts, and friends who are there for you in the toughest of times.
Dig in and catch up with all the lovely creations before our guessing game starts this Sunday!
An anon masterlist of all the works will be posted on Sunday too, with reveals happening on August 20th.
🎨 Art
Joy Exposed
(Fleur Delacour/Ginny Weasley, G, Digital art)
Ginny and Fleur give an interview for Daily Prophet’s new Weekend Magazine and spend hours doing an accompanying photoshoot. When it comes to approving the selection of photos for print, they unanimously choose the candid one taken on their break, rather than all the styled and posed images.
nocturn says about this: THIS IS GORGEOUS!! I adore their expressions, the sneakers, that awesome headline, and all of the fun colors! citrusses says about this: Oh my god this is BEAUTIFUL!
Monday Murder Club
(Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter, Lavender Brown/Padma Patil, T, Digital art) The members of a crime-solving club find love and friendship amidst the blood.
nv-md says about this: Such a cool idea, and I adore the couples you’ve chosen and their poses together. Slowly_learning says about this: Extra mention for the comic style in the second chapter, super super cute!!
The Professor's Passion
(Narcissa Black Malfoy/Hermione Granger, G, Digital art) Hermione is a professor and Gryffindor head of house. She loves her job... until Narcissa Malfoy is hired on the school's faculty, and is now head of Slytherin. God, that woman is insufferable. Hermione despises her so much she can hardly think about anything else. (She must hate her... that's why she always feels so hot and bothered when she's around, right? And does she have to be so damn beautiful?)
wolfpants says about this: You've really captured the spirit of the fest with this - so passionate and heated! Summer says about this: The colors of their dresses are so vibrant and I love the atmosphere you created!
🎵 Podfic
Masks Off
(Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy, Teen, 3h 15 min)
Draco had followed his parents to this Caribbean island as a matter of course, even though no one had told him what they were doing here or why his father’s ships were frequently attacked by masked pirates. And, honestly, Draco’d had no intention of actually finding out either.
Sylvie says about this: That was a lot of fun. I love your voice! zippysuffix says about this: This was so good! I love how you brought the story to life.
🖋 Fic
Nature pricks them on to ramp and rage
(Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter, E, 21k) Lord Draco Malfoy may be a young man spending time in Dumbledore’s summer court, but that does not mean he needs to succumb to its licentious frivolity. He carries the burden of his lineage, the shadow of rumours, and the dignity of his betrothal to a good match. He is certainly not fool enough to be distracted by the dark curls and ready grin of the court’s stableboy, who seems to have taken up with every courtier who looks his way.
RaenyDay says about this: I am thoroughly enjoying this fic! The banter between Draco, Blaise, and Pansy cracked me up. milkandhoney says about this: The worldbuilding was top tier 👌
Love Me Meow
(Arabella Fig/Minerva McGonagall, E, 2.5k) After the students leave for the summer, Headmaster McGonagall and the new Muggle Studies professor have a chance and sensuous encounter at the beach.
acari says about this: Arabella is such a saucy minx. That was very fun. Anon says about this: Love the summer vibes!
The Real Thing
(Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy, M, 5k) Harry only means to cheer Draco up after a terrible breakup. He doesn't mean to fall in love.
Bubblegumhead says about this: This story made me feel so very warm, content and over flowing with such emotions. Basicallyahedgehog says about this: So soft and sweet and gorgeous.

Cis and trans people, reblog with a ridiculously elaborate description of your gender goals or the mary sue version of you. The cringier the better. I'll start:
The stableboy / squire
He's not very tall, but he can move about hay like no other. He always has his sleeves rolled up, in case he's needed somewhere, but his shirt is suspiciously white (he's in a period drama). He's not allowed to speak to the knight he assists, but she always looks at him with kind eyes. He spends his free time reading (somehow he knows how, or even better, he taught himself), propped up against his favourite horse, who is also his best friend.
The ambiguous pirate
Are they a she, a he, a they? No one knows, and no one cares, because with their rugged good looks, they've captured much more than just ships. They look like they're unattached, but they're secretly amassing riches to bring to their lover back home (where "home" is shall only be revealed in season 3). They keep saying "my true love is the sea", but what people don't know is that their true love's name is actually TheSea. They may be captain of their ship but they spend their evenings on deck, singing songs with their crew, because they're #not like other ship captains.
Your turn, do your worst, and tag your besties 👌

I feel like Wukong would see those "fellas, is it gay to kiss the homies good night?" memes and would be like, "of course not! I kiss my homies (Ao Lie and Macaque) all the time!"
And depending on how you headcanon him this is either him being aroace and unaware of any other implications or it's him being gay and unaware that he's gay.
It's one of my favorite things about writing a fic that can be seen as queerplatonic or romantic.
Anyway, for the Ao Lie x Macaque x Wukong ship someone (@/shadowpeachyuri) said I should call them unstableboys since Wukong and Ao Lie's shipname is stableboys and when you throw Macaque into the mix it just becomes so much more unstable so, for the foreseeable future, I will be tagging this ship as "unstableboysshipping"

I saw something saying their ship name should be unstableboys, because stableboys is Wukong and Ao Lie, and Macaque is kinda unstable.
Or shadystableboys, because they are doing sketchy things in the stables

i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again: darkling sexy, BUT
you can’t have a darklina kiss and then immediately follow it up with jesper hooking up with a stableboy, and not have me think jesper’s scene has ten times more chemistry. you just can’t.
