Random Star Trek TOS analysis: Spock & male gender expectations and stereotypes
I was recently discussing with my best friend his experiences growing up in a very binary âright-wingâ society. He expressed that he often felt ashamed of the fact, that heâs very emotional, soft person, with big interest in fashion and other things which stereotypically associated with female experiences (manicure, makeup, emotionally-driven literature, âgirlyâ cartoons & shows, etc). He also shared that his male friends would rarely discuss emotions, feelings, and allow themselves to just feel, as it is not seen as âmasculineâ in the society we both grew up in, so he relates more to female experiences.
And we ended up talking about TOS and Spock. Because I am trekked in the head I guess, and he would also relate to Spock in this particular situation.
Iâve noticed, that despite the stereotype that men are not emotionally and physically gentle with each other, it does not coincide with what straight male writers and creators love to portray in male friendship driven media, which is often considered as an ideal. For example, Lord of The Rings comes to mind. It was written in the 30s-40s, and male characters are very gentle with each other and are open about their feelings with each other. They hold hands, kiss each other, cry. It is not portrayed as romantic or weak, at least, romantic possibility part is not portrayed so intentionally, and those tender relationship we can also observe in the film adaptations of the books.
Also, Iâve read a book by USSR sci-fi writers Strugatsky brothers, Prisoners of Power. USSRâs ideal of a man is seen as pretty stereotypical, BUT, it is actually far more normal for men to be physically affectionate in the Eastern European society. If you watch USSR 50s-60s films youâd probably be surprised to see men randomly kissing each other in the lips because, for example, they are happy⊠And also holding hands and dancing with each other if thereâs no female partners is considered normal still. BUT still I was surprised by the fact that in the USSR book, male character Guy calls the novelâs also male protagonist Max âbelovedâ multiple times, and it literally says that âMax made him fell in love with himâ. Of course, it could be intentionally romantic, as Strugatsky brothers were very progressive and critical about USSR, but the fact that censors said zero things about this very open tenderness between two male characters, in my opinion, says a lot. That at least it wasnât seen as gay, and even if it WAS written as gay, which is obviously a huge possibility, this amount of love between two males was seen as normal or at least idealistic.
Watching Star Trek I realized that Kirk and Spockâs relationship do remind me of Max and Guy from this obscure Soviet book. If we go away from the romantic interpretation of the relationship, we canât ignore that
1) Spock and Kirkâs relationship is often the focus of the show and a primal focus of the Star Trek films
2) Spock and Kirk are canonically soulmates and in The Search for Spock it is told literally multiple times.
Spockâs popularity as the character also proves his relatability to the audience, regardless of their gender and identity.
Roddenberry himself said the following of Kirk and Spock relationship:
âI definitely designed it as a love relationship. And I hope that for menâŠwho have been afraid of such relationshipsâŠthat they (Spock and Kirk) would encourage them to be able to feel love and affection, true affectionâŠlove, friendship and deep respectâ.
You can also read this exact quote on Wikipedia. Star Trek is a highly idealistic show, as it portrays the perfect society, and in that society it is completely normal for men being emotional, open, and being open about their affection to each other.
But what does it all have to do with Spock and my friendâs experience?
Iâve concluded, that Vulcan society aligns with what society typically expects from men, or what many men feel it expects. In the beging of the show Spock experiences shame for the fact that he feels friendship for Kirk. Spock grew up in the society where emotions are seen as weak, despite the fact that Vulcans do feel emotions. A lot of emotions.
But the fact is, Spock is a VERY emotional and emphatic individual. He is half human, so heâs an outsider in his society. He cries mostly in the show, and actually he is very tactile with his friends despite that Vulcans like to keep their personal space.
Kirk, on the contrary, while being an officer, for whom itâs important to be collected and calm, and the situation often forces him and the whole crew actually to not let their emotions take control (otherwise theyâd be screwed up) is pretty open about his tender side. With him Spock learns to accept himself. And he only becomes the closest to being happy, when he fully accepts his emotional side. Kirk is a pretty happy person although he has been through a lot, because heâs not ashamed of being a romantic, idealist and the person who can say to you quite easily âyou make me believe in miraclesâ.
So, you can interpret Vulcan as a reflection of gender stereotypes that are imposed upon men, and the whole message of Spock finding the balance, is that to be happy is allowing yourself, as the man, to let those standards go. That being open about your emotions and tender side is noble, heroic, and masculine.
This interpretation is quite possible, as science fiction is created to analyze society and human flaws by allegories and hyperbole.
We, as society, still need to learn and we need to have such examples of healthy masculinity as Kirk, Spock, Bones (also Doctor of Doctor Who, Frodo, Sam, Aragorn from LOTR) and such charactersâ popularity proves, that many men do experience the pressure, and do want to be open, they like it, it is healthy, and itâs their ideal. And Prisoners of Power I mentioned earlier is a very popular book in the USSR and in post-USSR as well, and is considered a science fiction classic.
It doesnât matter if you read those relationships as homoerotic or not. The intention is, no matter what kind of relationship it is, it is healthy, manly and great.

On that short clip Em posted where Virginia is waiting for Henry in the attic, is henry possessed/influenced there? After the "have you been waiting there for me all night?" Line I just noticed that he walks and moves a lot like "Henry" during his monologue after the massacre, it may be just my perception of course, but I rewatched that scene enough times that I would notice something like that đ
It's a gradient! He starts off going upstairs normal, but things go downhill after Virginia slaps him. It's like whatever's in him is feeding on his underlying anger towards Virginia and influencing him to be more aggressive, which does end up culminating in monster-voice/possessed Henry.
It's interesting that you mention the monologue in 4.07, because there are a few times in TFS where Henry behaves the way he does in 4.07 (i.e. the walk and the tone of voice). He behaves like that in:
The Virginia attic scene: Henry's already upset with Virginia re: her behavior surrounding his friendship with Patty. When she hits him, he lashes out.
His scene with Patty when he and Brenner are contacting the Shadow: Henry and Patty are arguing about whether it's worth it for Henry to save himself/finding good in the world. When Patty de-escalates the situation, Henry loses contact with the Shadow.
His scene with Virginia directly before the Creel murders: Henry's already upset with Virginia because he can tell she's sold him out to Brenner in some regard. When he finds out the full extent of the danger she's put Patty and him, he lashes out.
His monologue to Joyce in the basement of the school (which very much contains all the hallmarks of 4.07): He's already upset because he knows Virginia sold him and Patty out to Brenner, and that Brenner's coming after Patty to eliminate her. When Joyce implies she knows what he's done, he seems like he's going to attack her. He's threatened, and the Shadow is definitely exacerbating it. When she de-escalates the situation, he backs away from attack-mode and into a monologue...only for Brenner to get aggressive with him and kick the situation back into high gear.
All but one of these scenes have something in common: Henry's already upset with someone, regardless of the Shadow's presence. Whatever's acting through Henry has very little to do with that base anger. It just ends up exacerbating his aggression until the situation escalates into Henry channeling the Shadow and lashing out at anyone within reach.
The difference is in Patty and Joyce's reactions to Henry's behavior.
Instead of meeting him with anger or violence, Patty cries. She's hurt, not aggressive, and as such she doesn't push him deeper into Shadow territory. Her pain walks him back from the Shadow because he cares about her and doesn't want to be aggressive with her.
Instead of becoming going after Henry, Joyce talks him down by telling him she wants to help him. She doesn't understand the scope of the situation, so it ultimately derails and ends up in a 4.07-style rant, but she talks him right off that ledge because she doesn't meet him with any aggression.
4.07 is quite similar. One is already upset. He's got decades of anger fueling him, regardless of the Shadow. Towards Brenner, towards the guards and other orderlies, towards everyone responsible for what's been done to him. He gets unchipped. The anger gets exacerbated when the guards attack him and the little girl he's now responsible for. It culminates in disaster. (No doubt whatever's in him is hungry, too. He's been chipped for years.)
We can see many of the same behavioral patterns from TFS in 4.07, though, too: When El cries, One softens. He backs away from that aggressive edge. He doesn't lash out at her, he wipes her tears, he makes an attempt to connect (even if it ultimately falls flat). The situation de-escalates into a monologue.
Hell, even the topics of "conversation" are duplicated from the de-escalated interaction with Patty:
He's big and scary, sure, but he's just talking at El. Hell, he even smiles at her when he mentions her birth/tells her he's glad she was born.
The situation was de-escalating, right up until El exacerbates it by attacking him.
Different situation, same pattern of behavior.
(Note: This is not me blaming El for how things ended up. It's a massively complex situation, and just like Patty pushing Henry down on the catwalk when she finds out he killed his family, El had every right to react the way she did. All I'm saying is that it didn't help.)
#sorry for turning your ask into a mini analysis on henward's behavioral patterns but. once it came to me i had to write it out#asks#tfs spoilers#st: tfs#st nina project

SUBWAY BOSSES' ENGLISH NAME ANALYSIS
warning: I will mention something related to Catholicism here
These past days, I've been curious where does Ingo's name came from. I know Pokemon likes to do wordplays when it comes to naming characters so I decided to make a mini-research
INGO
Ingo's name comes from the term "ingoing"
I thought about it further then I realized it might came from the name "Domingo"
In the Philippines, Filipino Catholics love to give nicknames to their patron saints, like Tatang Usteng for St. Augustine and Tatang Enteng for St. Vincent Ferrer. I have a devotion to St. Dominic de Guzman and I dearly call him Tatang Inggo ("Tatang" means "father")
Yes, Inggo is a popular nickname for St. Dominic, just like Isko/Kiko for St. Francis
Back to name analysis, "Ingo" might derive from "Domingo." "Dominic" and "Domingo" come from "Dominicus," meaning "belonging to God"
EMMET
Emmet's name (probably) comes from the term "emit" (to throw or give off, to send out)
"Emmet" has many possible origins. First, "Emmet" can be a male variation of the name "Emma," which comes from the Germanic word "ermen," meaning "whole" or "universal"
"Emmet" can also come from the Hebrew word "ŚŚŚȘ" (emĂ©t) meaning "truth" or from the old Persian word "ۧÙ
ÛŰŻ" (omid) meaning "hope" or "aspiration"
There you go, a breakdown in Subway Bosses' names!
Recap:
"Ingo" might come from "Domingo," meaning "belonging to God" and "Emmet" means "whole," "universal," "truth," hope" or "aspiration"
Hope you like my mini-research! (finally done with my overthinking)

could we stop with the nasty comments? thanks. Its just started again, but I'm putting an end to it just as quickly.
You can't just base my Stonathan analysis off of one of the minor little post with barely any details and say stuff like 'this is a joke right?' No it's not a joke. I am telling my interpretation on Stonathan throughout the show finally and it requires making a lot of posts including 'mini' ones that aren't as great/convincing as the bigger posts.
In order to understand my take on Stonathan, you need to read the entire thing or most of it anyway which I can't put all in one post.
So...not every single post is going to be a champion ok? I get it. its not gonna be like in every post 'omg this is hard core evidence that they're in love'. No. It all has to ADD UP. Its not just one thing or two things, its the whole story. If you don't care to know the whole story, fine, but don't make fun of me for telling my interpretation of it when you only read one little post that doesn't even begin to cover it.
I already have to force myself to share this on here cause I know I'm gonna get a bunch of nasty comments, ok, but I wanted to share it with ppl who also ship Stonathan so they can have content and we can talk about something we enjoy. Is that ok? Do we have the rest of the fandoms permission to do what every other shipper and st fan gets to do on here? ...Great thanks. I'm just so tired of getting hated and bashed for being a Stonathan fan. Its been too many years of this now.
I've been trying to get this done for two years and it wasn't easy. This is a lot of work. I've been sick and thats why I have time to finally post this stuff, and its consuming a lot of my time. Its a lot to deal with. So please don't come at me with your nasty comments. This is taking a lot out of me to set this all up and get it done so other Stonathan fans can enjoy it before S5 comes, the last thing I need is nasty comments from anyone. Especially someone that only read one post and decided that all the rest of the posts about it are garbage.
If you don't like my ship, fine, but please don't come at me with your nasty comments about it when I've spent a lot of time and work on this.
When I see ship analysis I don't agree with, I don't say nasty comments to that person. I just scroll.
Not all of the Stonathan points I am making are going to be gems to every single person ok? I'm trying my best trying to share everything I can for the ppl who want to read it.

Silvertongues: Audio Sci-Fi Fiction That Crackles With Magic
Several podcast networks such as Spotify have crafted expensive sci-fi audio dramas with uneven results. No huge hits, but solid download numbers. Therefore, a highly successful and quality independently produced sci-fi audio drama seems unlikely, given the financial constraints.
Leave it to an independent podcaster like Acorn Arts And Entertainment to innovate a way to produce a high-quality sci-fi audio drama that has the sonic palette of a million-dollar production.
What they've produced is a sci-fi audio opera that crackles with action, conflict, questioning reality, time shifting, and doing ferocious battle with linear thinking.
What is the narrative of Silvertongues? On the tranquil shores of the Kalalani Island Chain, two lost souls discover they have no past. But paradise turns deadly when Roscoe Talbott and Tavi Jones uncover a conspiracy that blurs the lines ...sci-fi / tropical thriller about a young man who discovers he has no past. What follows is an increasingly twisted investigation as he discovers a brainwashed island.Â
Because the show is non-linear, a plot summary would sound more like quantum physics than a literary analysis. Yet Silvertongues is audio fiction magic. From the lush soundscape created to the award-winning level acting, the show ranks as one of the best fiction shows of 2024-2025.Â
The show features an original soundtrack from Jesse Haugen (the composer of The Sheridan Tapes, and Tales of the Echowood). Just the incessant chirping of birds infuses your ears with the universe inhabited by Silvertongues. Add that soundscape to the fictional Sunset With Seth DJ on 93.5 The Coast, where the radio show acts as a time portal and time stamp for the narrative.
Silvertongues has seven, short full-episodes and six mini-episodes. I recommend listening to the 40-minute Q&A with the producers. It's a fascinating look into the creative process.
Who are the mad scientists mixing beakers of plot, character, action, suspense, conflict, eerie agitation, and space-time disorientation?
We have Michael Alan Herman, who is an award-winning writer and actor from St. Joseph, Michigan. He was the co-writer of James Francoâs film The Mad Whale in collaboration with Elysium Bandini Studios and has an MFA in screenwriting from University of Southern California.
Josie Eli Herman is the founder of Acorn Arts and Entertainment. She is a multi-avenue artist with a background in theater and fine art. Some of her greatest passions are directing for theater and film, acting, photography, and portrait painting.
Acorn Arts And Entertainment also has other audio fiction podcasts, including The Call of the Void, a fully immersive, three-season, science-fiction/mystery podcast that takes place on the bustling streets of New Orleans.
There, a tour guide and a palm-reading outcast team up to unravel the mystery behind cases of sudden insanity besetting the city.
Acorn's latest project is from T. Luna Alexander, who is a Michigan-based writer, director, teacher and performing artist.
The Inn At The End Of Things is a Sleep Theatre podcast designed to help the listener find rest, guiding audiences gently to their dreamspaces through folklore and kitchen table wisdom.Â
Hosted by the Innâs Keeper, each listener is guided through simple meditations, adventures, and soundscapes. You'll meet the other residents and guests of the Inn, who share tales gathered from around the world. These tales are equipped with empowering archetypes and timeless themes, allowing the listener to reach full relaxation before falling asleep.
I listened to the trailer and was immediately drawn to the sonic landscape of the show.
I highly recommend Silvertongues. It's a show that showcases all that podcasting can do at its best using the audioverse. Thinking about watching a cheesy, low-budget sci-fi film on Netflix? Save your eyes the trouble and cater to your ears and spend two hours listening to Silvertongues.

Cerebro is a fantastic podcast, and I'm sorry that it took an episode about my obsessive fave to lure me in.
They (Conner and guest Anthony Oliveira) do a lot of discussion about the very obvious queer-coding of Pyro and how it relates to queer history, both in his early appearances and his death from the mutant metaphor for AIDS. In fact, they basically say that it goes beyond queer-coding with Pyro, he's just blatantly, obviously gay, even if it's not directly stated on page. It's a really fascinating analysis and reading of the character.
They also have a throwaway line about how Forearm could conceivably jerk off eight guys at once, just so you don't think they get too serious.
I feel a bit vindicated that they share my annoyance the existence of Simon Lasker kind of stealing the "gay Pyro" identity out from under St. John, and causing him to be written "straighter" when he comes back. They also seem to think that poor Simon is more evil than he is, and that he was the one who didn't want a relationship while Bobby did, although I remember it being the opposite. They sometimes get details wrong, but given how incredibly in-depth these discussions are, and how many characters they cover, I can't really complain. I only know a lot of shit about Pyro because I love him, I can't imagine going that deep for as many characters as the podcast has covered.
They bring up Pyro as a potential partner for Exodus, as which is not a pairing that I had ever imagined, but hey, why not? They do acknowledge the whole Quicksilver mini Legacy Virus cure bait-and-switch, but imagine a kind of forgiveness arc. Hell, if it meant both Pyro and Exodus got some action on panel, I'm for it.
Anthony Oliveira also brings up Pyro calling Destiny "Mother" in one of Moira's past lives, and suggests the possibility of Destiny kind of fostering a young St. John the same way she and Mystique adopted Rogue, and that is what brought him into the Brotherhood. Personally, I think Pyro seems closer to Mystique, and I always imagined her being the one to bring him in as an adult. BUT, Mystique and Destiny have spent time apart doing their own thing over the years, and I imagine Pyro being at least 10 years older than Rogue. Maybe Destiny picked up a teenage runaway Pyro and looked after him for a few years before he went off to be journalist/novelist, and maybe she called him in when they put the Brotherhood together. Anyway, Anthony Oliveira, if Marvel EVER lets you write a Pyro one-shot, I fully support this back-story, I would buy like 100 copies.
They also suggest Destiny as Pyro's literary agent and editor, and I love that, too.
10/10, great podcast, will listen again.
I DID NOT KNOW that the Cerebro podcast had done a Pyro episode, and I am listening right now.
Best highlight so far - they call Pyro the "pass-around party bottom of Freedom Force."

I don't have any solid proof but i suspect the Duffers have read a lot of books about body language and gave directions to Finn based on them because this expression Mike does with his eyebrows is very telling about what was going on with him in the van scene:
Then, he follows the "eyebrow flash" with a soft smile and a look at Will's lips.
I have to give kudos to Finn Wolfhard for being able to convey this smitten look of recognition in seconds.

any of yâall ever cry bc will was so alone in the first two seasons like even tho joyce and mike were with him physically in s2 what he was going through was going on inside of him and so he really went through that alone and he was all alone in the upside down but now in s3 whenever he sees the monster heâs with his friends and jonathan is right there and theyâre all protecting him and each other!! like el protects everyone from the monster in the hospital and the cabin, jonathan puts himself between will and the monster in the cabin, and will hiding behind the car is so similar to him hiding in s1 and especially visually similar to him hiding from the shadow monster in 2.02, but now jonathan is right there next to him!! and everyone else can see the monster too, itâs not just him!! and he has lucas to help distract the monster so they can escape!! and nancy puts herself between the kids and billy to protect them!! and then will gets to fight back against the monster to save his friends with lucas by his side!! and once they defeat the monster, once will realizes he has all these people who will protect him and that he can protect them as well, he begins to be able to overcome some of the trauma of being so scared and alone, which we see when he gives his dnd stuff to erica. like thatâs super sad but also it works really well with the message of how we all grow up and life moves on, and while thatâs sad itâs also a good thing!! like wills writing was real scarce in the second half of s3, ngl, and him moving away from all of his friends broke my heart, but his arc was honestly really well done imo, even if it was sad and kinda in the background, and Iâm super excited to see where it picks up in s4!! I have this feeling that s4âs really gonna deliver in terms of wills coming of age (and coming out) story bc s3 honestly set that up really well, as the ending showed heâs ready to grow, even if itâs sad and even if itâs hard. heâs ready for it!! I have faith in s4 lol

Analysis of Mickey Milkovich's Bedroom Part Three
HELLO HERE IS PART THREE SORRY ITS BEEN A BUSY FEW DAYS AHHHH
(Warning, mentions of the dreaded scene in 3x12)
ALSO YES PLEASE ADD THEM TO YOUR VAULT OF FICS BECAUSE THIS MAKES ME EMOTIONAL AS WELL AND I COULD MAKE WHOLE SEPERATE POSTS ELABORATING ON PHOTOGRAPHER MICKEY AND TAXIDERMIST IGGY
Also @tidalrace made an extremely good point and honestly yes, that is exactly what I think they wanted us to think with Mickey st first. The poor hygiene plus the violence plus the animal skulls plus the taxidermy plus the satan symbols: yes. I think they wanted us to think Mickey was or was going to become a serial killer/murderer.
But if we are thinking/theorizing within the canon universe and not irl then I think it was Mickey trying to come off as sketchy/edgy/badass thug. I think all of that was a manifestation of Mickey's inner suppressed emo boy.
So first up is here's a box on top of the wardrobe behind Ian:
Again, super blurry, but it says "Jump Boots". Jump boots are typical boot styles for people in the airforce... so I think Mickey had a similar idea to Ian. I think Mickey had a plan to escape T*rry by entering the airforce, but he was just barely 17 when he met Ian so he wasn't eligible yet. Then by the time he was 18 he had been in juvie twice, and then there was no way.
And actually I looked them up and they're Carolina Jump Boots, very popular among Paratroopers.
And this last one for this room isn't particularly a room analysis but I still want to add it in:
Top picture is Mickey's hand tattoo next to T*rry's, and the bottom picture is the poster in his room.
Obviously knuckle tattoos are a theme here and we know Mickey's are sort of iconic. There are a lot of people who headcanon Ian as bring in love with his hand tattoos and honestly I agree.
But what I want you to imagine today is many many years down the road, Mickey and Ian are raising their daughter, she's 16 now. And she's basically a mini Mickey, with the edgy clothing and spikey hair and the attitude and one day after a party with friends she comes home with a shitty knuckle tattoo done by one of her friends with a stick and poke and at first Mickey and Ian are upset. Mickey is a little proud at first but Ian kinda elbows him and mutters that she's only 16 and gonna have that for the rest of her life, and Mickey has to pretend to be upset while Ian scolds her and then she mutters under her breath "I just wanted a tattoo like dad's" and it's quiet for a moment and she says "I didn't think you would be angry"
And then Ian relaxes and he's like "no, I'm not angry. Here let's see them" and on her knuckles is "Fuck U-Up" just like her dad's and Mickey says "they look like shit but they're thing enough we can get them covered professionally".
And then I got screenshots from his room in season 3 so guess what's next đ€Ș
In the back of these screenshot is a walkie talkie. At this point Mickey and Iggy are both in their dads criminal business and I would be willing to bet money that what these are for.
It starts with Iggy and Mickey coming up with dumb code names for each other that they take very seriously and will get offended about if the other slips up/doesn't use them while on the walkies.
*Mickey handing Iggy a walkie before a job* "Remember we have code names for a reason. Fucking use them"
"You forget code names one time and then you get nagged for the rest of your life-"
Then it goes from just code names to code words then code saying and slowly they begin to develop this code language that only Iggy and Mickey understand and then they start to get ballsy about using it. Using it outside of walkies, using it in every day life, and then one day Iggy talks back to T*rry under his breath using the code words and Mickey's eyes near about pop out of his head and Iggy snaps to look at him, waiting for his brother to rat... but he doesn't. And now they use it all the time, from talking shit about people right in front of them (especially T*rry and his buddies) to "hey can you get some milk while you're at the store".
Mandy is really the only one who cares enough to catch on so one day when they're shootin' the shit in this secret code language Mandy corners them and is like "I know you're using some kind of code bullshit and you're going to teach me it or else" and Mickey and Iggy are like "or else what?" And Mandy is like "or else I won't make dinner for a week. You'll have to make it yourself-" and Mickey scoffs and is like "a week, that's it?" And that was the wrong thing to say cause Mandy crosses her arms and says "for a month" and they're quiet, contemplating it, and then Mandy says "two months-" and they're like "Alright alright" and now all three of them have this secret language they use.
Now for this next screenshot I have two thoughts. At first glance I thought this was a vintage speaker which sprouted its own series of headcanons but I think it's actually a tool box. Now, logically, this is probably for crime but also here's why I think he has a tool box just chilling in his room.
Growing up shit was breaking all the time. Either from testosterone fulled rage or never being replaced even far past their prime, things were breaking in the Milkovich house all the time. And it's not like they could afford to replace things like sinks or toilets or fridges, and sure they could steal things but it would be so much faster and easier for Mickey to just learn how to fix that shit himself.
So when Mickey is about 8 or 9 Iggy gets (steals) him some tools of his own and teaches Mickey the basics and that's it, Mickey is lost. He cannot stop fixing things. Every time something breaks he jumps to fix it, and when there's nothing to fix he'll take things apart just so he can put them back together again.
As Mickey gets older he gets more skill and more tools and in his preteens/early teens he starts building things. Putting things together crudely in an abandoned old building.
Stealing sketchbooks from walmart to fill with ideas of inventions and floor layouts for houses and toy designs and car designs, really anything he can create with his hands.
Hiding these sketchbooks under his mattress, jumping when he hears someone come home and leaping to shove it under the mattress (as carefully as he can to not rip the paper while still trying to be fast), his heart pounding out of his chest as he tries to act natural, feeling as though he's not breathing until at least 10 minutes later.
Next, from this screenshot:
I would like to point out this in the background:
Yes. That is the same taxidermied crocodile head from season 1... in a metal cage.
I could see this going two ways (one funny and one kinda sad):
1) it started as a really dumb joke, like Iggy saw it in someone's trash and brought it home for Mickey's "pet gator" and he never really expected Mickey to put the head in the cage but Mickey wanted to know if it would fit and it did but now he can't figure how to get it out so he just has a taxidermied alligator head in a cage in his bedroom.
2) Mickey had some sort of pet, a hamster or a rat or a ferret (I could 100% see him with a ferret) and while he was in juvy everyone sort of forgot he had it and then it died. It started to stink so Iggy was going to throw it out, cage and everything, but Mandy stopped him. That afternoon Mandy took the pet out of the cage, wrapped it up in a pillow case and put it in a shoe box and then dug a hole in the back yard to bury it. She knew Mickey would be upset when he got out, though he would never admit it, and so she leaves the cage in case he wants to get another one. But when he gets out and hears what happened, he is upset, but instead of getting another he decides he's not getting another pet until he leaves. He keeps the cage as a reminder as to why he can't have a pet. Mandy says it's depressing and tells him either to get another pet or get rid of the cage. He spots the gator head and a light bulb goes of. He puts the alligator head in the cage and is like "Happy?" And she just looks at him before saying something like "this isn't healthy Mickey, let go" and then walks out in a huff.
Now this one is so blurry you can probably not tell what it is but if you rewatch the scene (at your risk of your heart shriveling up in your chest) you will see those are string lights. Mickey has fairy lights in his bedroom, confirmed.
I can see Mickey being the kind of guy to have string lights lining his room or dangling from his bed frames. And whenever Ian tries to comment on them, like "Oh fairy lights aren't too gay but holding my hand is?" Mickey just tells him to fuck off, "You can get the fuck out of my room if you don't like it".
I think I got another part in me so I'll see yall in part 4

STYLE ANALYSIS: MONET DE HAAN, THE QUEEN BEE OF CONSTANCE BILLARDâS GOSSIP GIRL REBOOT
It is undoubtedly known that the âdark academiaâ, and âold money aestheticâ are becoming a mainstream trend that we see in todayâs fashion. With the rise of dark academia and the old money aesthetic, two iterations of the preppy style, it is not surprising to see it trending on TikTok. And what better way to talk about than introducing the character off HBO Max hit show Gossip Girl, Monet De Haan.
Monet de Haan, a character on the hit HBO show, Gossip Girl, the reboot, portrayed by Savannah Smith. Now if you havenât watched the show, what are you doing? Go now and watch, itâs entertaining and plus the wardrobe is very pleasing to look at. But anyways, staying on topic, Monet de Haan is a very prominent character in the show even though she is not seen very often, her presence is very much felt.
In the show it is evident that Monet is the queen bee of her friend group between Luna and Julien, even though Julien is the front runner who is dubbed the queen. However, it is evident that Monet has natural power and commands that power through her influence and mastermind skills she has as Julienâs PR consultant. Without the stereotypical role that would be presumed for Monet and their friend Luna, Monet is a very independent person that thinks for herself and has her own best interests at heart. She is not afraid to step out of line nor project her authority over others and in her wardrobe we can clearly see why she is the queen bee and not just a minion.
In the first episode Monet is seen at her dinner table with a butler at her beck and call while she is wearing a tweed two piece cropped jacket and skirt, by the brand Balmain. This outfit already set the tone for what Monet embodied as it captured her aura and visually commanded the audience to see just who she was without having to say a word. It embodies what the old money aesthetic is, a classic style with elegance.Throughout the series it is apparent that Monet comes from a prestigious family, seeing as she is one of the richest students at Constance Billard St. Jude's School. With this in mind it is not far-fetched that Monetâs style would embody the âold money aestheticâ.
The âold money aestheticâ, is an aesthetic based around a wealthy, classic style. Old money refers to people who have inherited their wealth instead of working for it. Monetâs style is reminiscent of the old money aesthetic with hints of preppy fashion as she encapsulates it with her own personal style which is rooted in prestige and heritage.
Monet has a decadence to her that I think she embodies naturally as seen in her wardrobe. In many outfits Monet is seen sporting a broach. Now broaches May seem old, and out of style however with Monet it fits her style of prestige and old money aesthetic seeing as that is in fact her life and the way she grew up. In her friend group Monetâs style is the most prestige as she has the most decadent looks out out her friends. Her style is rooted in high fashion that is more embedded with heritage rather than just the modern style. For instance, in many of Monetâ/s looks she is spotted wearing high fashion brands like Chanel, Gucci, Balmain, Valentino, and so many more high fashion power houses. Like her personality, these brands are powerful and commanding with their influence over people and things. Monet is rooted in the elegant, opd money aesthetic where she prefers a for example old world Chanel or a vintage high fashion brand. Though Monet is very stylish she does not follow the status quo like everyone around her. Instead she opts for fashion that is regally rooted and can stand the test of time with timeless pieces that wonât go out of style.
It is evident to point out that Monet's wardrobe staples are everything that the âold money aestheticâ embodies, such as mini skirts, blazers, heels, oversized sweaters, bodysuits, broaches, chokers, bows, or necklaces as an accessory. She is also seen throughout the show wearing a powerful suit that embodies her aura and personality perfectly as it embraces her power, strength, and feminine beauty. In her wardrobe she is also seen mixing patterns, whether thatâs prints,or textures. Her style undoubtedly dominates without overwhelming the viewer hence her personality which complements her outfits so well.
Monet de Haan is the richest girl at Constance Billard and she plans to stay that way whilst ruling Constance with an iron fist and an exquisite outfit to match her rulership.
