SSO - best racing horse

After all that time not playing, I have money so I decided to buy a horse for racing, because racing is the only thing regular here.

And as I was still at the end of the jorvik poney short turn era, I think I need some infos but reddit and youtube kinda say all and it's opposite so... SSOblr I need your wisdom.

really curious as to why g2 arabians//pintabians are the first (excluding the magic whinfells) g2 horses to be retired, they aren't even that old in terms of g2 breeds either, a lot of others were added before them.

i assume the most likely reason is quality? obviously all of the older breeds have their quirks, but the arabian model looks Really outdated.

for this next possible reason im gonna turn into a conspiracy theorist, but i kind of suspected it might be because of the g2 pintabian's racing advantage. for anyone who doesn't know; g2 pintabians specifically been used for high scores and championships because of their quick jump animation, this was temporarily fixed, but after sso implemented their "horse machine" in 2023 the breed's jump is "broken" again.

its possible they're aware of this, and since its an older horse are taking the "this breed is a problem, might as well get rid of them because fixing it will be more trouble than its worth" route, but who knows.

May is looking like an intense month for Star Stable.

Previously, Star Stable have stated in various places that the next main quest, in addition to the Pintabian and some new Morgan coats, will be released in May. Now, we know that the Horse Progression (and new UI) will as well, and the Player Character update is slated for release before the Rainbow Festival... but when, exactly, can we expect these things?

The Equestrian Festival will end in two Wednesdays' time, on the 3rd of May. The road maps of this year have so far not stretched further than 4 weeks, but for the Rainbow Festival to begin on the 7th of June the roadmap will need to be five weeks long. For the past 2 years*, the Rainbow Festival has begun on the second Wednesday of June (while the 7th will be the first Wednesday of June), but as a six-week roadmap would be unprecedented (and as the Rainbow Festival has not in the past two years released later than the 9th of June), I find it most likely that the next roadmap will run from the 3rd of May to the 31st of May, with the Rainbow Festival commencing on the 7th of June.

*Before 2021, the Rainbow Festival was not officially acknowledged as a Pride celebration and could begin as late in the summer as July or August. Now that it is officially Jorvik Pride, though, I expect SSE to keep the June date.

In those five weeks, the following updates are either confirmed or very likely to be included:

Pintabian and new Morgan coats

Horse Progression and new UI

new Main Story Quest

player character update

...and let's be honest a HoJ because they probably want to return to the monthly Guillermo rotation after the festival.

Per the blog post today, the player character update - if everything goes smoothly - is slated for release "just before we enter into the Rainbow Festival" - meaning we can pin it down for the 31st. The week after a festival is usually something pretty light, so we'd be looking at either the new horses or HoJ for the 3rd; I'd bet on HoJ, because a 3rd of May Pintabian release would make the gap between two horse breed releases (Pintabian and the Lippizaner, in this case) a record-breakingly short three weeks. Lastly, if I were SSE, I would not want to release the Horse Progression and the new player character in immediate succession as both of those are pretty likely to bring bugs both of the "urgent fix" and the "oh god, that's complex" nature.

With all that accounted for (as well as some additional details from my spreadsheet detailing every road map ever), here is my semi-informed, semi-Moon Circled guess of SSO's May updates:

May 3rd: Horses of Jorvik May 10th: Pintabians and Morgans May 17th: Horse Progression May 24th: Main Story Quest May 31st: Player Character Update

Oh, and MC 2.0 beta test from the 15th of May to the 22nd of May.

Did I miss something or did SSO really release a new breed (gen 3 pintabians) and then act like they’re new coats for an existing gen 3 breed?

I guess that’s one way to deal with the “stop releasing new horse breeds!” crowd, continue to release breeds but phrase it like it’s just new coats (well in this case it’s old coats on the new gen models)

the pintabians are already such a weird situation though I guess, with being the same model (in theory?? right??) as the arabians, but updated to gen 3 at a different time (aka now) and not allowed in the Horses of Jorvik race for Arabians so I guess SSO just didn’t know what to do with them, if they should be treated as a new breed or what (but also they’re treated as a different breed? I’m so confused)

and they’re not even new coats, they’re the old coats on new models (which I am fine with, I wish SSO did that more because there are a lot of old coats I’d like on the new gens, but it definitely adds to the weirdness)

Sporkle first came from star stable and featured in many videos , art works et cetera. She became a symbol of abigail pinehaven

an interesting thing has occurred with the starstable pintabians in that they are near-identical to their previous models. Normally star stable aims to iterate upon and improve their models, but clearly there was a different intention with these models. Is it because they know about users like abigail? There is also a consistent trend of 'pintabians' being used for racing - they were previously the fastest horses in the game but i think this stat has been nullified.

The Star Stable name generator has a pre-specified list of names or combinations of words that you can use as names. OP doesnt want to use the word 'sparkle' for their horse 'sporkle' which i dont understand but I appreciate the honesty

I'm just confused about why it took SSE so long to fix the Pintabian problem.

Did no one ever explain clearly to them that it was the jump animation causing the issue, not the base speed?

I keep saying that if we want them to listen, the best way is to send suggestions from the website, not to whine at their social media managers, and we need to be detailed and specific.

It's been common knowledge for years that the Pintabian was faster because of its jump animation. It's ridiculous that it took SSE this long to understand that. I really don't know what to think of it or who to blame.

SSO Outfit Ideas #1: Sporty Winter Set

(Please Note: I posted this on Facebook ages ago before the antivirus photo bug reared its ugly head and some of the format's a little outdated as I was merely testing the waters)

Some of my favourite things to do in the game are thinking up meaningful/cool sounding/suitable names for horses, and creating matching gear & outfits, so in an attempt to remain a little more active -every now and then- I'll be posting some pics of a featured horse I own, along with his/her chosen tack set and outfit for my avatar, and provide some info about them. The idea behind this is to hopefully be of some assistance to other players who may be looking for a name and/or tack & gear set for a horse and rider. :) Since there are so many horses and tons of gear ingame these days, finding the right stuff for you isn't always easy, so hopefully this will give you some ideas. :)
