Best Gentleman's Knife: A Guide to Choosing the Perfect One
When it comes to everyday carry (EDC) knives, gentlemen need something that not only looks stylish but is also functional and reliable. A gentleman's knife is more than just a tool; it's a fashion statement that adds to his overall image. In this guide, we will take a closer look at some of the best gentleman's knives on the market and what makes them stand out.
Tumblr media
What is a Gentleman's Knife?
A gentleman's knife is a small folding knife that is easy to carry in a pocket or on a belt. It is typically used for everyday tasks such as opening packages, cutting food, and cutting small items. A gentleman's knife is also designed to look elegant and refined, making it a fashionable accessory for any well-dressed man.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Gentleman's Knife
Before buying a gentleman's knife, there are several factors to consider. These include:
Blade Material
The blade material plays a significant role in the overall quality of the knife. Common blade materials include stainless steel, high-carbon steel, and Damascus steel. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to choose the one that suits your needs best.
Blade Shape
The blade shape affects the knife's functionality. A drop point blade, for example, is perfect for everyday tasks, while a tanto blade is more suited for self-defense.
Handle Material
The handle material should be comfortable to hold and provide a secure grip. Common materials include wood, bone, and various types of synthetic materials.
Locking Mechanism
A locking mechanism is crucial for safety. A knife without a locking mechanism can close unexpectedly, leading to serious injuries.
Size and Weight
The size and weight of the knife will affect how easy it is to carry. A smaller and lighter knife is easier to carry but may not be as sturdy as a larger one.
Top Gentleman's Knives
Now that we know what to look for, let's take a closer look at some of the best gentleman's knives on the market:
1. The Benchmade Proper
The Benchmade Proper is a classic gentleman's knife that has been around for decades. It features a simple yet elegant design with a slip-joint mechanism that keeps the blade securely in place. The blade is made of CPM-S30V steel, which is known for its excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance.
2. The Buck 110 Folding Hunter
The Buck 110 Folding Hunter is another classic gentleman's knife that has been popular since the 1960s. It features a wooden handle and a 3.75-inch blade made of 420HC steel. The locking mechanism is a back lock, which is secure and easy to use.
3. The Folding Knife
The Spyderco Chaparral is a modern gentleman's knife that features a sleek design and a sturdy build. The handle is made of carbon fiber, while the blade is made of CTS-XHP steel. It also features a reliable back lock mechanism that keeps the blade securely in place.
4. The Kershaw Leek
The Kershaw Leek is a slim and stylish gentleman's knife that features a 3-inch blade made of Sandvik 14C28N steel. The handle is made of stainless steel and features a secure frame lock mechanism.
5. The CRKT Pilar
The CRKT Pilar is a compact and affordable gentleman's knife that features a minimalist design and a sturdy build. The blade is made of 8Cr13MoV steel, while the handle is made of stainless steel. It also features a secure frame lock mechanism.
Conclusion
In conclusion, a gentleman's knife is a practical and stylish accessory that can enhance a man's image. When choosing the perfect one, it's important to consider factors such as blade material, blade shape, handle material, locking mechanism, size, and weight. The Benchmade Proper, Buck 110 Folding Hunter, Spyderco Chaparral, Kershaw Leek, and CRKT Pilar are all excellent options for a gentleman's knife, each with its own unique features and benefits. By taking the time to choose the right one, a gentleman can have a reliable tool that also complements his personal style.

Are Spyderco knives made in China? Are Chinese knives any good?
Made in China. For many people in the knife industry, those words are synonymous with inexpensive, low-quality knockoffs and fakes. Concerns about authenticity of materials, labor conditions, and questionable business practices have created a stigma about Chinese made knives that has lasted for decades. Many avid knife enthusiasts choose to stay away from Chinese made knives entirely to avoid the issues completely.
Let me start with a disclaimer: If you only buy knives from the United States because you believe in supporting the local economy and encouraging American businesses that employ Americans, that’s fine and commendable. I can’t argue with that moral approach to things. But if you refuse to buy any knives from China because you think they’re junk, you’re simply wrong.
Tumblr media
The Efficient is one of the few Chinese-made knives at Spyderco. It runs 8Cr13MoV, a lesser steel on the market today, but besides that one major drawback it’s a solid everyday knife. It has many of the design cues that make Spyderco knives beloved.
This is a humpless Spyderco — a rarity, and a benefit. It’s a design feature that limited the width of the knife in the pocket, a common complaint I have with many medium-size folders made at the brand’s Golden, Colo., facility.
Here, the Efficient also runs an effective forward finger choil, letting you choke up for precise cuts and allowing larger hands to use the modest folder. I also appreciate the liner lock and access cutout.
In this case, the access cutout works for both the Spyder-hole and liner lock itself, a clever design redundancy. Toss in the excellent spoon-style clip and the perfectly textured G10 handles, and you have a winner.
Rise of Knives Made in China
Prior to the 1970s, pretty much all knives marketed in the United States were made in the United States or Europe. The iconic Buck 110 Folding Hunter that became one of the best-selling knives of all time was made in the good ol’ USA. But the shift toward knives manufactured in China (and other countries in Asia) was slow but steady.
Tumblr media
Beware the Knockoffs
After all the praise for Chinese knives, it’s important to realize that — just like anything — not all Chinese knives are great. In fact, you should be wary of poorly made Chinese knives that are designed to trick consumers. Even if it’s dirt cheap, these knives should be avoided at all costs. They help fuel a black market.
Aside from that, you will always find poorly made Chinese knives just like you can also find bad USA-made knives, whether they slipped through QC or simply have poor designs.
So for all you people out there that think all Chinese knives are junk, it’s time to start expanding your horizons and picking up some awesome knives you’re missing out on.Through YierCity, you may find the best budget knife set and the best Chinese made knives that you have never thought of.

A Look at Spyderco Knives
Spyderco Knives has a long history of being one of the most popular pocket knife brands. If you are looking for a well made and reliable pocket knife, there are plenty of great options available from Spyderco. With a long history of innovation in the industry, you cannot go wrong when you clip a Spyderco pocket knife into your pocket.
Tumblr media
Speaking of clipping your pocket knife, the four position pocket knife clip is one of the many innovations Spyderco has helped bring to the knife industry. Admittedly, there are some other brands that wish to claim this honor, but Spyderco's first folder was produced in 1981 and featured one of these clips, definitely making them either the creator or one of the first to implement the design.
In addition to the pocket clip, folding Spyderco knives also feature their signature round hole that allows for ambidextrous opening without any modifications. These features, combined with a focus on developing more secure locking systems and serration designs, have helped Spyderco remain in the knife industry over the last 40 year years. Today we will be looking at a few of Spyderco's most popular knife models.
●Spyderco Tenacious: The Tenacious is a hardworking little folding knife with a leaf shaped 3.39" 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade. The shape of the blade and the thumb jimping on the spine helps to provide a secure grip while performing everyday tasks. Plus, like all Spyderco pocket knives, the Tenacious features a four-way pocket clip.
●Spyderco Para Military 2: The Para Military 2 is one of the most recent additions to Spyderco's long running Military collection of folding knives. These knives have a thin profile that is easy to throw in a pocket and a bushing pivot system that make the action incredibly smooth. The Para Military 2 has a 3.08" CPM S30V stainless steel blade with an extended modified clip point. The additional spine jimping and finger choil also gives these knives an even better grip than the original Para Military.
●Spyderco Chaparral: The Chaparral shrub of the Western US is known for its ability to survive fire and drought and that resilience is why the team at Spyderco decided to name their series of gentleman's folding knives. These knives feature 2.79" CTP drop point blade that is designed to tackle a wide variety of everyday tasks. What really makes these knives stand out is their gorgeous handle scales. Every Chaparral handle is hand selected to give the knife a distinct and classic look. For someone interested in a knife that works hard and looks amazing, you cannot go wrong with the Chaparral.
You can find all of these great Spyderco Knives and more when you visit www.theknifeconnection.com. The Knife Connection is one of the largest knife retailers in the US and they have an amazing selection from Spyderco and other quality brands. If you have any questions about any of the knives that they carry, feel free to reach out to one of their knife experts by sending an email to [email protected].

submitted by Mikey Bautista Every day, readers like you proudly share photos of their everyday carry on the site. Not only is looking through their pockets this way super interesting, but it’s also a great way to find really cool gear you never even knew existed (yet somehow, suddenly need…). When you hover over an item you like and click on it in these photos, you’re also letting other EDCers know you find that gear interesting. Each click gets recorded to create a data-driven ranking of the most popular gear, which you can find in our Gear section of the site found in the top menu bar. Gear with the most views and clicks climbs its way to the top of this feed and lets the EDC community know what’s trending right this second. This past March you were keen on compact tools, sleek gent’s knives, and high-performance multi-tools. Let’s take a look at all the gear you were most interested in… Content Content 1 - 10. Böker Plus Gnome 2 - 9. Victorinox Compass Tool 3 - 8. Spinnaker Hull Automatic 4 - 7. Gerber Pocket Square 5 - 6. CRKT CEO 6 - 5. Spyderco Para Military 2 7 - 4. Kershaw Showtime 8 - 3. Böker Plus Gnome Purchase Specifications Brand Böker Plus Model 02BO270 Reviews 124 reviews Price $ Starting off March’s trending gear is the Böker Plus Gnome: a compact and classy neck knife that, even at just 4" long overall, delivers plenty of utility and performance for EDC. The contoured handles provide a comfortable two-finger grip, thanks to the large finger choil that helps you control the knife while in use. The scales themselves are shaped from Micarta combined with red fiber inner layers for a bit of contrast and style. The Gnome’s 2" satin-finished sheepsfoot-style blade is useful for light cutting and slicing tasks, and the 440C stainless steel it’s ground gives it high resistance to wear and corrosion—perfect for a knife that you’ll likely be having on you at all times. The included Kydex sheath protects the blade and lets you loop in cord to make this a neck knife or to mount it on your gear. At 2 ounces, the Böker Plus Gnome is a tiny companion you wouldn’t mind taking along for those times that you need a small but reliable edge on hand. Check It Out 9. Victorinox Compass Tool Purchase Specifications Brand Victorinox Model VIC-30482 Reviews 61 reviews Price $ Despite carrying the Victorinox name, this uncommon tool at ninth place comes in neither Alox nor Cellidor scales, but instead packs 4 survival-oriented functions into a flat, compact package. The tool comes with a compass, ruler (3.15“ / 8 cm), magnifying glass, and a thermometer, and comes in a design you can slip flush into a pocket or compact survival kit. It’s a no-frills way to add essential functionality to your outdoors EDC. Check It Out 8. Spinnaker Hull Automatic Purchase Specifications Brand Spinnaker Model SP-5059-04 Reviews No reviews yet Price $$$$ With a 42mm case showing off its large vintage, dive-watch inspired dial, the Hull Automatic makes an eye-catching statement, especially at night when the Super LumiNova-coated pips and hands let loose with their lume. During the day, a deep brown sunburst dial that matches its strap lets the Hull give a natural touch to any outfit. And last but not least, a Japanese caliber TMI NH35 automatic movement secured in the Hull’s 100 meter-resistant case with a date complication and power reserve of 41 hours takes care of its beating heart. Check It Out 7. Gerber Pocket Square Purchase Specifications Brand Gerber Model 30-001363 Reviews 168 reviews Price $ Clean lines, great cutting performance, and a deep pocket carry make the Gerber Pocket Square a great gentleman’s carry. This version features machined aluminum scales that adorn the 3.9" long handle and give it durability and grip. The blade sits flush with the handle when closed, and is deployed with the textured ambidextrous thumb lifts. The blade’s 3" length and drop-point shape lets it handle common EDC cutting and slicing tasks. It’s held securely in place during use by a liner lock mechanism, which like the thumb lift, integrates seamlessly with the streamlined design of the knife. The pocket clip is reversible for left or right hand carry, and offers an extra-deep pocket profile. This makes for for a deep and discreet carry right at home in a work or formal setting. Check It Out 6. CRKT CEO Purchase Specifications Brand CRKT Model 7096 Reviews 788 reviews Price $ The CRKT CEO stands out with its letter opener-esque slim and narrow silhouette which sits discreetly in your pocket thanks to its tip-down, ultra deep-carry clip. It deploys manually via thumb studs on smooth IKBS bearings, locking into a liner. The 3.1" 8Cr13MoV, flat ground, plain edge blade gives you plenty of cutting edge to work with, coming to a narrow tip for precision work. Its glass reinforced nylon handles provide a solid, ergonomic grip and keeps weight down to just over 2 ounces total. It’s an excellent EDC in and out of the office, and sits at last month’s sixth slot. Check It Out 5. Spyderco Para Military 2 Purchase Specifications Brand Spyderco Model C81GPBK2 Reviews 417 reviews Price $$$$ When talking about all-time classic Spyderco knives (not to mention all-time great knives in general), it’s hard to avoid talking about the Para Military 2. With solid features like a CPM S30V blade with trademark thumbhole and full-grip G10 handles paired with excellent balance, ergonomics and security thanks to its patented Compression Lock, there’s a reason it’s become an EDC staple. The black scales and blacked-out drop point blade gives a nod to its tactical heritage while allowing it to be the centerpiece of any stealthy EDC. Check It Out 4. Kershaw Showtime Purchase Specifications Brand Kershaw Model 1955 Reviews 132 reviews Price $ The Kershaw Showtime was designed—as its name suggests—for those times when you’re trying to look your sharpest. Its 3" long drop point blade keeps it legal in most places (always check your local laws) and deploys quickly thanks to the integrated flipper tab and the spring-assisted opening of Kershaw’s Speedsafe system. The blade’s 8Cr13MoV steel is done up in a combination of satin and black for a contrasting theme that’s carried throughout the design, and it’s more than capable of handling your daily EDC cutting and slicing tasks. Silver hardware and standoffs contrast with the black stainless steel handle to keep the theme going, and provide an easy-to-clean flow-through design. A hex nut styled pivot adds more visual flair, while a black deep carry clip keeps it discreet in the pocket. All that style in a easily pocketable 3.67 ounces. Check It Out 3. Grim Workshop Jordan Jonas Signature Card Purchase Specifications Brand Grim Workshop Model Jordan Jonas Signature Reviews No reviews yet Price $ In the third slot for march is the Grim Workshop Jordan Jonas Signature Card, featuring nine different outdoor and survival-centric functions that you can easily pack it in your wallet, or compact survival tin. This hardened stainless steel survival card features an arrowhead tip that you can use as a spike to enhance a deadfall trap for catching small game, which you can make with the included Paiute trigger and trap assembly. Two small hook-and-lure combos and four slightly larger hooks ensure you’re stocked for fishing, and a net weaving shuttle lets you sew and mend your net in a pinch. It holds an awl for leatherworking and a sewing needle for some quick repairs, and also includes the small but useful Sharpener Card for light field maintenance of your tools and blades. Check It Out 2. Kizer Feist Purchase Specifications Brand Kizer Model Ki3499S Reviews 7 reviews Price $$$$ Equipped with some of the finest materials around on its handles and blade, the Justin Lundquist-designed Kizer Feist is an elegant expression of utility-driven simplicity at a great value. It definitely does more with less: it’s a compact knife at only 3.625” when closed with a blade length of 2.875”. That sub-3” blade not only helps pass even the more stringent local knife restrictions, but it also cuts like a bigger knife thanks to its sharp edge spanning the entirety of its modified wharncliffe geometry. The Feist also uses an excellent blade steel in CPM-S35VN, commonly found in high-end knives for its toughness, sharpness, and edge retention. As another welcome addition to a smaller knife, the Feist locks with a frame lock between its matte 6AL4V titanium handles. The backspacer and included pocket clip are also made in matching titanium to bring a clean aesthetic overall backed by durability and light weight. Check It Out 1. Leatherman FREE T4 Purchase Specifications Brand Leatherman Model 832684 Reviews 158 reviews Price $$ Topping the March charts is one of the latest in Leatherman’s popular new FREE series. The FREE T4 brings 12 functions to bear in a 3.6“, 4.3 oz package. Many familiar tools from the FREE P-Series make an appearance, such as a 420HC knife, spring-action scissors, an assortment of drivers, openers, a heavy-duty file, and even a detachable pair of tweezers. You can deploy all the tools one-handed thanks to the FREE’s magnetic architecture and cam lock system, making them buttery smooth to open, locked in place while in use, and as easy to close up when you’re finished with your tasks. And when you’re ready to grab the T4 and go, its included and removable pocket clip gives it a secure spot in your EDC. Check It Out What stood out to you most in this monthly round-up? Listed are some budget pocket knives that I know of decently well enough to recommend. I’ll be posting these in order of price, but many have different colorways, steels, handles, and blade edges. Bolded will be my personal favorites and these are all quality knives from a few reputable knife makers. None of these are affiliated links, so don’t worry I’m not tryna make money off y’all.
Victorinox Swiss Army Classic :Scissors, mini blade, nail file with flathead tool tip.Simple, sleek, functional, great price, lightweight, and tons of different color options. Great for a beginner EDC. 6 oz. $25
Kershaw Emerson: A great beginner knife, but also has the Emerson Wave opening assist. You can pull this right out of your pocket and it flips open on it’s own. Great value for a knife that is nearly a switchblade. Decent color selection. Made in China Blade 3.5in. 6.4 oz. $42
Kershaw Chive: Excellent beginner knife, especially for women. Assisted opening and small enough to fit in those tiny ass pockets women’s jeans have. They come in a ton of colors, but the pink is the best, has a great feel. Also would look cute cutting open a letter or stabbing a rapist in the neck. 420 high-carbon steel. Easy to sharpen, and resistant to corrosion and stain, doesn’t rust easily. Made in USA. Blade 1.9in. 2.24 oz. $42
Spyderco Ladybug 3: Great overall knife. Stepping into a high quality steel, you’re basically paying for the blade as the handle, fiberglass reinforced nylon, is very light, yet strong and has a great grip.Japan steel. Sharp af right out the box. VG-10 high quality steel, more susceptible to rust, but barely, one of the better steels for pocket knives. Doesn;t come with a clip, but has a hole for a lanyard. Lots of colors. There are better Spyderco options imo. 4.4 in length. Blade 1.9in. .63 oz. $42
Kershaw Scallion: Kershaw make some of the best knives under $50. Has a large pocket clip, and a lock assist. Made in USA. Slim, sleek, and smooth. Feels great in the hand. Smooth SpeedSafe opening, flipper adds finger protection for extra grip when you’re digging or cutting into things, great for left or right handed folk. 420HC Steel. 3.5 in length. Blade 2.4in. 2.4oz. $46
Kershaw Leek: Similar to the Scallion. Slightly longer and slimmer blade. Lots more colors options. Sandvik 14C28N steel blade. Decent quality blade with a good quality for price value. Reversible carry clip. Glassbreaker tip for emergencies. Speedsafe assisted opening.Made in USA. 4in. length. Blade 3in. 3oz. $49
Spyderco Tenacious: One of my first knives I’ve owned and carried daily for years. I still wear it after years of ownership. Incredibly smooth opening, especially once you get used to the Spyderco round hole. I love sitting there and just opening it with the “Spider-man” style flip. 4-position pocket clip for tip up or down carry. Liner lock. Medium sized knife with a decent heft to it. Great G-10 handle that gives a good grip yet feels smooth. 8Cr13MoV stainless blade. Easy to sharpen, yet holds a sharp hard edge. Ribbed spine for slip-proof thumb positioning. Made in China, Taiwan, but a high quality value folder. Sharp af out the box, but will need to be broken in a bit with the opening. 3.39in Blade. 8oz. $54
Case XX WR Gentleman’s knife: Great little pocket blade. I personally own one with the pearl handle and usually just throw it in the bag as a backup. Wanna look cool and hip af while slicing an apple? This is the knife for you. This specific knife has an incredibly handle color, but search around for a color that matches your taste. These are high quality knives Made in the USA, and can get quite pricey.6254 Stainless Steel, which is Case’s own brand of steel, it is essentially 420HC, but has a beautiful stainless shine.SHARP AF. 4.2in. 3.52oz $55. Sweet leather belt sheath. $25
Kershaw Blur: Beautiful knife. Highly recommend, I personally don’t own but many friends swear by it. Has a great hand feel, grip, and weight and balance. Stepping into the best value for your dollar with a solid ass knife. Speedsafe assist. Trac-Tec grip makes it great for any condition whether it be water, snow, mud, or sand.  14C28N steel. Has a DLC, diamond like coating, on the blade, making it even more resistant to corrosion and staining, while still giving a nice chine. Lightweight yet strong aluminum handle. I recommend the half plain and serrated edge. 3.4in blade. 4.2oz. $64
Spyderco Delica 4: My current EDC. Multiple colors, great steel, lightweight handle. Incredibly lightweight knife. VG-10 japanese steel corrosion resistant, but not rust resistant so be careful with water. The fiberglass reinforced nylon , FRN, handle has incredible grip.Back lock and a trademark hole in the blade for reduced weight, yet still remains strong and sturdy. “Ribbed spine for her pleasure, ewwwww”  (Waynes World) it gives better thumb to spine contact so your thumb wont slip when you’re digging in or stabbing something. There is an Emerson Wave version with that out of pocket quick draw that I will be purchasing next. I own the orange handle, it makes it easy to see, and fits with my style and outfits. 4.25 inch handle. 2.75in blade. 2.5oz.$85
Spyderco Endura Damascus: I want this fucking badly. Damascus steel is one of the highest quality steels on the planet next to blue steel. This steel was made into weapons at a point and superior to iron.It has a beautiful water like pattern on it. FRN handle. The Endura is a quality Spyderco knife, but the steel on this one make it that much better. It is a mix between Damascus and VG-10.  Length: 4.98. Blade  3.80in.  3.40oz $100
Benchmade Mini Griptilian: Highest quality knife, of course, with the highest price point. Made in Oregon. These knives are made to perfection, and Benchmade has a reputable name throughout the knife world. This is their cheapest knife, but they do not skimp on quality. Multiple colors and edges. Manual opening. USA 154CM SS, not as nice as Spyderco VG-10, but still incredible steel with edge retention. Great for cutting through bigger items, such as thick rope, car seat belt, etc. Incredible weight and balance with this knife. Great for those who work in a field that requires some rough and repeated use. *wink wink*. Also one of the better knives to bring with you camping or hiking, as it can cut and saw, if you get serrated, through almost anything. This thing is sturdy and sharp as shit. It feels great in the hand and becomes an extension of your body. Axis lock to ensure handling safety, textured lightweight yet strong grip. 3.9in. length. 2.9in Blade. 2.9oz. $110
I’m too tired to add anything else, if you have any other recommendations, please add!!!
Hi y’all
I highly recommend keeping a pocket knife on you at all times.
Obviously some bit of a protection is what accompanied it. But it also helps when you need to cut into something, slice something, rip open a package, cut some rope.
Also, having a knife on your person also give you a bit of self confidence. What I mean by that is you feel just that much more safe, granted many pocket knives are only a few inches long, it can easily thwart off an attacker, or save you from being jumped by multiple people as I know of people who have saved themselves from that exact circumstance.
I’ll post some Amazon links to great knives that are either affordable, multi use, or just plain beautiful and awesome later when I get a chance.
