chapter 1

The whole vast space felt hollow. It was empty save the large central carpet, fouled by stains, dark spots of long dead and dried rot that he was sure soaked straight through to the wood below. Vash stood unmoving in the center, back to him.

“Hey Spikey?” Wolfwood approached slowly, his heart beating faster at the scene. “You good?”

Vash glanced up, his face clearing from grim to pleasant in the blink of an eye.

“Yeah. Yeah, sorry. All good.”

chapter 2

“You believe in ghosts, Needle-Noggin?”

He paused mid-chew at the question, swallowed slowly, then broke into an evil grin.

“Of course! This place is haunted for sure,” he raised his hands into claws and leered menacingly over Wolfwood, who scowled. “It’s probably watching us from the shadows right now, just waiting for- hey!” He’d leaned just a little too close, and Wolfwood took the opportunity to shove him off his perch.

chapter 3

Vash stepped past him to take lead and they ducked under the floor, following the lights down beneath the foundations. Wolfwood felt it again, the foreboding that surrounded the house, that had kept away bandits and townsfolk alike for three years. His unease grew the deeper they went, an instinctive desire to run that he had to fight every step of the way. He refused to slow, matching Vash stair for stair as the pit wound its way downward. Once, he thought he saw a flash of movement from below them, peeking out before darting off again just where the curve of the stairway disappearing beneath itself.

Perfect Fic. Perfect characterisations. Incredible. (It's so so so well written. Genuinely had me on the edge of my seat. Gunsmoke ghost story my beloved.)

Soooo if you didn't already know, I had the honor of collaborating with the amazing writer Cadameo on their fic in the Wonder Duo Holiday Party Zine back in late December! Now that we've been okay'd to post our content, here I am sharing the illustrations I did, as well as some behind-the-scenes sketches I did ;)

As you will see, there were some things I couldn't fit in due to time constraints and page restrictions. Mimi, admittedly, had gotten a bit carried away when they were doing the art. The story was just so cute, okay?

Also, if I may say so myself, I drew the cutest Izukus ever for this fic. I'm so proud of them.

I'm re-reading the Discworld series for reasons, and honestly the most relatable part of reading these as an adult is how many of the protagonists start out being tired, used to their little routine and vaguely disgruntled by the interruption of the Plot. Sam Vimes wants to lie drunk in a gutter and absolutely doesn't want to be arresting dragons. Rincewind is yanked into every situation he's ever encountered, though he'd much rather be lying in a gutter too. (Minus the alcohol. Plus regretting everything he's ever done said witnessed or even heard about fourth-hand in his whole life.) Granny Weatherwax is deeply suspicious of foreign parts and that includes the next town over; Nanny has leaned into the armor of "nothing ever happens to jolly grannies who terrorize their daughters-in-law and make Saucy Jokes"

Only the young people don't seem to have picked up on this---and that's fortunate, because someone has to run around making things happen, if only so Vimes and Granny and Rincewind have a reason to get up (complaining bitterly the whole time) and put it all to rights. Without Carrot, Margrat, Eric, etc. these characters don't have that reason; they're likely to stay in the metaphorical gutter and keep wondering where it all went wrong or why anything has to change.

............well, that's not quite true. You get the sense that Vetinari knows how much certain people hate the Plot. And as the person sitting behind the metaphorical lighting board of Ankh-Morpork, he takes no small pleasure in forcing the Plot-haters specifically to stand up, and say some lines.
