Trying to put my finger on the concept of how like the only real interaction between Kaladin and Jasnah in the series is like that one like… not quite argument in like book two where they both present their somewhat opposing moral philosophies and Jasnah talks circles around Kaladin and he walks away kinda bitter and neither of them change their ways over it but three and a half books later his approach to morality leads him to find peace and become a cornerstone influence for good in the world while her philosophy leads her to losing a kingdom and spiraling into self loathing and something something “it was unfair that convincing someone depended not on the strength of ideas but the strength of the arguer.” But he was RIGHT and she was WRONG and I don’t know where I’m going with this but DO YOU GET WHAT IM SAYING

SPOILER WARING FOR WORDS OF RADIANCE, I guess...

YAY! There will some more posts this year from things I could not share before. One of these is the first illustration of the six I made for Nexus 2024's con game. The story card decks! 

I got to illustrate the short story "King Lopen The First of Alethkar" by Brandon Sanderson and Isaac Stewart. A side story from the end of Words of Radiance and some character growth we missed out in the main books. 

It was so awesome seeing everyone trading these at Nexus and I got to sign quite a few. I hope I get to share more of it in the future, but for now I can show you this one, of Lopen ending (nay diminishing) his opportunities for one-armed-jokes and many cousins to witness it.

adolin half teasing kaladin while out for drinks sometime in Urithiru: you know your feats on the shattered plains aren't quite as impressive now that I've seen more of your magic glowing powers thing.

Kalidan: hm

Adolin: knew there was something weird about you. Ha. I mean i was amazed at the time, but surviving the fall from that bridge sabotage isn't really anything now that I've seen-

Kalidan: actually I didn't have my powers for that part

Adolin: what

Shallan: it's true he didn't

Kalidan: Lost syl right after prison, I got maybe a chip of stormlight while falling , just enough to not die, no powers the rest of the time

Adolin: how

Kalidan: I already explained the whole - with elhokar and moash -

Adolin: no, i mean, the highstorm -

Kaladin: yeah that was shallan

Shallan: shardblade cubby cut out part way up the wall

Adolin: and the chasm fiend? It really was already dead -

Shallan: no very much alive, very much tried to kill us

Adolin: and you-

Shallan: no that was kaladin

Adolin: what

Kaladin: I mean you did distract it, and I wouldn't have been able to do anything without your pattern blade

Adolin: you killed a chasm fiend. Without special powers.

Kaladin: I mean shallan-

Shallan: he jumped right in its mouth!

Adolin: i - you killed a chasm fiend. Without any other fighters. By yourself. Without radiant powers. You're - you're sure? No special abilities?

Kaladin: it was a pretty painful time, yes I'm sure. Did some spear katas. Noticeable difference without the bond with syl.

Adolin: you fought the chasm fiend. handicapped.

Kaladin: I guess? I dont know if it's handicapped considering, you know, most people don't ever breathe stormlight.

Adolin: you killed a chasm fiend singlehandedly. Without shardplate. And without any powers.

Kaladin: you're repeating yourself

Shallan: ...it was pretty impressive

Kaladin: you saw how messed up my leg got!

Adolin:

Adolin: I hate you so much.

im just so so so so happy that in the Adolin Wins Every Battle Via His Aggressive Magnetism And Ability to Befriend (If Necessary) Straight Up Concepts. Just By Treating People Like People. And Also The Candelabra book he also got a chapter where he beat the shit out of multiple enemies with a disembodied leg that he himself tore off the body. you really do get the best of both worlds with this guy <3

Stormlight characters when it comes to the question: Who is the biggest criminal amongst you? (Spoilers for every Stormlight book)

Kaladin: "Well, there was that time I planned to kill Elokhar, despite being his bodyguard."

Adolin: "But you didn't. Whereas I straight up murdered Sadeas. And would do it again."

Shallan: "True, but he had it coming. Meanwhile I killed my parents. Like I legit poisoned and strangled my own father, soo.."

Jasnah: "Are you forgeting the time I killed a bunch of thugs just to teach you philosophy?"

Moash: "Those were criminals. I killed innocent people, one of my friends, and don't get me started what I planned for Kaladin."

Szeth: "Those are cruel deeds indeed, but half of it happened due to Odium's influence on you. I killed monarchs, highprinces, civilians, just because I was ordered to. And I had the choice to say no."

Taravangian: "Did you forget who gave you those orders? I got thousands killed for my goals, not even mentioning what I did in my hospitals"

Dalinar: "Amateurs."

I keep thinking about that one scene with Adolin and Sadeas. My man's like "Mwahahaha! You are powerless to stop me, Adolin! I will continue to undermine your father despite all that has happened! My plan is perfect! You and your bridgemen are nothing but dust under my boot! And the best part is I can gloat about it to you as much as I please in this here abandoned alleyway with absolutely no witnesses!"

And Adolin goes "No witnesses, you say?"
