so I can see this going two ways: childhood friends to lovers or normal friends to lovers.

personally I'm obsessed with the idea of childhood friends to lovers, so I'll be going with that one.

You were one of the children kept by the horrible noble that had Lynette. Lyney saved you along with all the other kids

From then on, the three of you have worked together for "Father"

While Lyney and Lynette focused on their performances, you often worked in sneaking around behind the scenes while people were distracted.

You also helped promote Lyney and Lynette through the steambird

When Lyney and Lynette first met you, you were very quiet.

Whether it was just in your nature or as a response to what you may have gone through in the hands of the noble prior to your meeting

over the course of the years, you slowly opened up to the two-- Lyney more so out of the pair

You did technically owe him your life after all

Lynette picked up on Lyney's feelings early on. He was the first to fall

But he was conflicted.

He knew how dangerous working for the House of the Hearth could be. He was already paranoid about something happening to Lynette, he couldn't bare to think about someone using you against him

But then over time, you too fell for the magician

And of course Lynette noticed that too

Lynette tries as hard as she can to create situations where the two of you are alone together

"Alright! (Lee), Lynette! Today was a good show! What say we grab a bite to eat on the way back?"

"Actually, I'm going the the steambird. Charlotee wanted an interview."

"What? She didn't mention that earlier.."

"We arranged it just moment ago."

"Wait- Lynette-"

Thankfully, because Lyney is so talkative, one on one dates hangouts are never awkward

Tbh, I'm not a fan of DID depictions when it comes to the media because there's a chance it may go the wrong way unless the writer has DID themselves or done proper research.

Either way, I'm all in for the first idea.

Like, if Solomon can summon the demons but as his bloodline gets further and further and his practice has been lost, especially due to his sudden disappearance, the demons have long stopped being summoned by him and got sad.

Then comes Ra-on/MC who one day summoned Satan.

Wait! Here's better part! The demon kings can also be summoned by other people whoever they feel harmony with. Kinda like a mirror version of themselves in the human world. But by doing so they got stuck in the astral realm and has been there for a while. And then there's MC who suddenly summoned the King of Wrath.

After summoning Satan, he quickly told MC that there's an ongoing war in their world so in order to gain strong they will need to find his mirror half aka the person who worship him on Earth.

Uhm, day after they woken up with Ppyong and Sitri in their home pretending to be human after Sitri felt a tug that his king have been summoned.

Anyways, this is due to Solomon's disappearance too.

Centuries later, various humans started worshipping a specific demon and handed it down to their bloodline. However, due to the misleading information and beliefs as time went by, they ended up accidentally sealing the Kings in astral realm and separating their beastly-form and human form, allowing the worshipper to only summon their beast form and can't really communicate with them making MC ✨️special✨️ woohooo! I’mma genius!

The worshippers, unaware of Solomon's bloodline, didn't know about MC's family. Their death. Or even who they are.

The kings can communicate with MC as a spirit.

In order to regain their corporeal body, they will need to be whole with their beast form so MC is tasked to find their mirror half in the human realm.

now they only have Sitri and Ppyong by their side.

This technically leave the part ‘only one person who can’ but atleast they are the only one who can communicate with them properly!

in most respects yes, they do conform to the expectations of them, even if it’s against their wants or nature. reputation is extremely important to them, and at least outwardly being seen to be doing the ‘right’ things for someone of their position is a key part of upholding that reputation. on the other hand, they are also much more loose and free with who they associate with than might be expected, and very much change their behaviour depending on whether they are interacting with older generations or their own peers. what i’m really driving at is that they often think that they care a lot less about expectations, when really when it comes down to it they do care quite a lot about upholding them.

👪 - does your character have a good relationship with their family?

yes! they are the pet of the family, and can get away with murder in their parents’ eyes, as long as they uphold the family’s reputation and position. there is a little more friction with their siblings due to jostling for parents’ attention, but overall they all have a good relationship.

🎭 - what are your character's morals?

they are mostly guided by the morals they have been brought up with, which are typical of an upper class upbringing in the early 20th century, though i would say they are definitely more progressive in a few areas. they generally have a good moral compass, but are also accustomed to getting what they want and willing to bend a little to obtain it. in these cases they’re very good at justifying to themself why they’re not doing anything wrong.

⚖ - what's a historical trope you're leaning into with this character?

hmm i’m trying not to just make these outright spoilers but… i guess a pretty big one is traumatised ww1 soldier. i know it’s often very overwrought and i’m trying to stay away from a lot of the cliches, but i also think it’s an extremely interesting time in history, and there are a lot of unique effects that fighting in the trenches had on people, so i want to explore that. it’s by no means the entirety of their story but it is a big part of the formative chunk.

💔 - which relationship in your character's life is the most unhealthy?

am i allowed to say their relationship with themself? because seriously it’s not good. they have a very complicated relationship with some parts of themself, and are very bad at treating themself with the grace and understanding that they deserve.

👀 - what is the first thing strangers would notice about your character?

in their early life i think they’re very unassuming, and there wouldn’t really be anything that strangers are particularly drawn to, aside from the fact that they’re reasonably tall. later in life the first thing strangers are likely to notice about them are their scars, though they may pretend not to.

Ooooo 👀 okay some may be harder to answer due to spoilers but I'll answer what I can!

Athy: She didn't speak for most of her younger years, and so her parents taught her a form of sign language, and that's how she communicated with everyone. She's always had a fixation with stories and she'd follow any of her three parents around until one of them read to her. She also had a tendency to just go off and explore, which caused some funny moments as this silent child just disappears up a tree every other day.

Cai: Before their mothers' passing, they were actually a very happy child. They took a lot after their mother, Thasinia, the late Sun in personality, because they were very calm and gentle. Though they enjoyed spending time with their Ommah, Alma, the late Moon, and she would teach them all about butterflies (that was her speciality). After their passing, things changed a lot and after several attempts on their life, they adopted the immature personality people now know them for, skipping lessons, causing trouble, which got worse the older they got.

Helios: Okay imagine a kid who thinks he is the most mature in the whole world (his main comparison point were his sisters so I don't fault him really haha), who thinks he knows everything at like the age of 10 because he is already studying magic theory... and then give him the largest pot of materia in the country. It's safe to say there were some disasters as he experimented with magic when he shouldn't have been, and didn't really think of the consequences until after the fact. He always pretends he wasn't as much of a troublemaker as his sisters... but he definitely was just in a different way to them. Though even as a kid he was fiercely loyal to his sisters, he stood up for them on more than one occasion no matter how much older or bigger the other kid was. He also had a tendency to get dragged around by them to play (especially dress up) even despite his protests that he was meant to be studying.

Jed: Didn't have a childhood... there isn't much I can say without spoiling!

Il: I also can't say much about him without giving spoilers, but I can talk about his teen years a little. He was very clumsy as a teen, though it was mainly a series of him trying to figure out who he was, or who he should be. It took time and support from his brother and ma to form his princely personality (there were a lot of cringey stages before that), and they were even more supportive as he decided to transition!

Farren: Farren was adorable as a child, she was raised completely in nature, away from the city with her grandmother Moira, and her skeleton parents Richard and Judy. She was a very freespirited child, having been given a lot of freedom growing up, and she was always wanting to touch and feel every sensation, and the amount of times she gave Judy a heartattack because she'd eaten something random she'd found-- She grew up very loved by those around her, as well as the wider witch and spirit community, and she was the same, giving that same love to everyone she met.

Eos: Eos was a scrappy kid, and was always that leader personality even back then. They led a small group of thieves who stole money and food that they'd all share, and they were fiercely protective of them all. They'd never really had a chance to have a gentle personality, so whilst the rest of the kids trusted them wholeheartedly, they were always very clumsy and awkward if any of them got upset or cried (they still kind of are now), the only way they knew how to comfort someone was giving them a gift, so they'd go out and steal something for them, which meant a lot of odd bits and bobs ended up scattered around.

Noah: He was the popular kid growing up, since he was tall and good at physical activities, like that jock that wasn't too arrogant, even though he was always surrounded by people. He was also a bit of a class clown, and a prankster, especially with his dad, who he'd have prank battles with. He was his dad's biggest fan, and he looked up to him a lot, so it made sense that as his dad was a priest he was more involved in the church, volunteering once a week and becoming even more well known in the community.

As for who would be most likely to have a childhood friends to lovers AU 👀 I think Noah (there is a really specific AU in my head that once his route comes out if someone reminds me I'll write a little something), Farren, Eos or Helios!

You'd think with all the analysis of Goncharov and how it criticises the bible and the sanitised versions of stories modern Christianity presents, (the discussion of judas and Jesus kissing on the mouth, the apple, etc) someone would talk about how they pay homage to how other religions influenced it.

While Goncharov is stuck in Christian myths Katya is characterised with Greek myths, Obviously there's the pomegranates with Sofia, but nobody is talking about the BOX? The secret box she wasn't supposed to find or ever open. It's Pandora's box.

For Katya it's disguised as a first aid kit and is filled with Goncharov's letters and while it's potentially just documents if you pause they're love letters to a "unknown" person. (It's andrey). This scene is usually skipped over as just introduction to Katya and Goncharov's rocky relationship, "you're keeping secrets from me?" But it sets off the events of the movie.

Sofia has this too, and is arguably more of a Pandora figure, being made up by forces bigger than herself, but it's Katya who opens the boxes for her, (the jewelry boxes, etc) and when Sofia does open the box with the gun in it, it's Katya who puts her fingers over Sofia's and helps her close it. The jewelry box is easily greed vs envy, or just general desire, the gun being violence, but the First aid kit was what lead to Katya's downfall.

In the first aid kit is evidence that Goncharov can express love, and it gives Katya the worst evil to have: False hope, the idea that Goncharov can be that way if not with her than with someone else. It's why she's so shaken when she sees inside Andry's wallet at the bar. She knows the notes were for him!

If she'd never opened the first aid kit she never would have stayed, thus by opening the box she doomed herself.

Sofia eating the pomegranates isn't subtle and forces her to spend some time in the underworld with Katya, in this way she's more of a Persephone type figure.

Now there can be an argument made that Katya is more of a Traditional Judaism type thing, (pomegranates again, the way she rebuffs Sofia a few times before finally letting her into the mafia type stuff like how converts are traditionally rebuffed a few times, etc) but I think that's a conversation for someone more well versed than I.

Now "Ice pick joe" and Valery Mikailov's comments are really juicy, going all the way back to the epic of Gilgamesh, predating both of them. With Goncharov getting gut punched to the floor and being told "she made you a person and this is how you repay her?" Talking about the unnamed woman who tamed Enkidu from his beastly form and taught him everything only to be discarded for Gilgamesh. This is interesting because you'd think Goncharov would be Gilgamesh in this tale. But out of the two of them, while Goncharov knows he has no time, it's Andrey constantly fighting for a stay of death, and ultimately Goncharov pays the price for him, after the small debate scene where after the death of (spoiler but his nickname is litterally "the bull" ) the mobsters decide which of the pair has to die.

These two characters even quote from the epic "he breathes and there is death." ;"let your belly be full..." ; "You are the door through which the cold gets in. You are the fire that goes out." (Though that one unintentionally implies he's a jilted lover👀 I don't think there's anything there for once.)

Other side characters may have more, but that's all I've found so far. And I think it really displays how these two are the least conflicted, more dedicated to their personal morals, more back to their roots kind of characters.

Scanlan - does try to be on his best behavior but still lets his crude rumor slip through. Not to worry, you’ve heard them all and were there when they were invented. He asks about your abilities, curious about them and if they ever help with bard magic 👀 just asking for a friend. He amuses you, and when you genuinely admire his music and time laughing with him, you giggle at that blush he fails to hide. There was one time when you composed a hymn for him, ones that you’ve heard others pray to keep their loved ones safe, and he is deeply touched by your implications

Pike - she’s in shock but also amazed that Everlight is tied to this; at first she may feel a bit unworthy, but you reassure her that you admire them and her. Especially her. When she thinks her relationship and way with Everlight is fractured, you comfort the gnome; “Pike, I never left.”; whenever you and the group travel along the road, you’ll find your mother’s temples across the land and pay for a visit; “Hello, Mother. Seems as if our work still continues”

Grog - wide-eyed surprise at who you are and asks Pike and you so many questions about what you can do. That scene from Primal where Mira worships the moon? That’s how he finds you one morning with the sun. You freely welcome his questions and curiosities, while praising his bravery and strength in battle. That earns you a tight hug and cheek smooch. Though he was a bit jealous with your close relationship with Pike, he appreciates that she has someone who can make her happy and helps her with her divine duties

Keyleth - has not met many gods but thinks she’s to be judged, which you let her know, she is not. You know of her people, admire their culture and as you’ve gotten to know her, you want her to succeed as well. In battle, enemies have seen a Minxie form charging with a large screeching phoenix on its shoulders. Everything she’s learned from before to what’s ahead increases tenfold during her journey to leadership and you put her heart to rest by letting her know that you still sense her mother. You’re there to help her anyway you can: turning Sylas to ash double-time and when she takes a hit for Vex, instant healing as soon as you catch her. Plus, the immorality gives you all the years you want with her

Vex’ahlia - does appreciate your sense of being down to earth and is a bit grateful that there is one as divine who stays on their side; yet, when things get tough and she questions everything about being the ones at the behest of gods you let her rant freely and hold her if she ever cries out in frustration; enchant her arrows to never miss and seeing how close she and her brother are, she appreciates you looking out for him too; The Grey Hunt is an assured success with the arrows you and Percy give her, and Vecna interfering in her and Vax’s life are kept at bay as you beseech your mother to heal them. The added bonus is also Trinket’s enchanted armor for protection and added longevity just for a few more years of happiness

Honestly no one messes with you all and doesn’t give Vox Machina a hard time with stuff, especially with you in the back staring down like “don’t be f’ing rude to them 😡😘”

About Construction magic.

So like, magic seems to be tied at least in part to a witch’s…soul? Maybe more akin to essence…anyway it’s something intrinsically THEM. A part of them. So much that maybe it can be said that a witch’s magic is a reflection of them.

You see it in illusions, where they can act semi independently apart from their witches, Plants where they react to a witch’s emotions. Maybe a bit with Abominations where they literally follow a witch like a shadow puppet but I’m unsure if that counts.

So my question is this.

Would a powerful construction witch be able to impart a bit of self into a building? Like a comforting presence that is just felt throughout the structure, reassuring those within that it is a safe space? Or perhaps even the opposite, where there is a layer of dread and foreboding. Warning those that this is not somewhere they are suppose to be?

Perhaps it is even go further than that. Like maybe The room of shortcuts literally protecting/guiding the witches who find it. Taking them where they want to go without them realizing it? Or moving slightly to prevent teachers or others from finding it.

I don’t know, haha construction magic seems to be more manipulating material and maybe density (see Construction head’s hammer being Very Very dangerous) but magic overlaps. And I can see Belos gutting Construction or the previous pre coven equivalent to prevent semi sentient houses from I don’t know sensing evil intention or protecting wild witches or something.

You are correct on the front of magic being inartistically woven into the methodology of the ‘soul’. We could even use medical terms here and say each Witch’s individual magic is a part of their DNA, their signature.

So! Moving onto your Construction Magic question. Yes! In fact I would apply it to as why house demons may latch on to the home as well. They sense powerful magic within the foundation and feed upon it, becoming a symbiotic relationship. Hooty is a perfect example of this probable theory.

Construction magic is very interesting to write about. It’s base form can stem from geomancy (which mixes Plant magic ironically) among other things (No spoilers for u!) of course as we’ve seen with modern Witches and canon lore, they’ve been watered down to the laborers doing nothing more that building and fixing things with some power boosters to lift heavy things. Which honestly, can be done by anyone with a tool box. Hel, get an abomination witch to summon a multitude of helpers and you got Construction Witches out of a job.

But let’s not forget in TB the Contruction Coven I write that they’re more mathematically inclined. They have to be, if they’re the architects of this world, they must know the exact angles, bearings, and design of what their building. And to do that with magic takes a precise control that is not seen often with the other types of magic we see. The Smiths of the Isles could tell you more, that is if you can find any left…

I assume that this question maybe came from my recent prompt for Raeda week where I alluded to Hexside being somewhat sentient 👀. Your ability to to pick out and think what Contruction magic was before it was gutted let’s me know I’m doing a good job as an author! I am planning on releasing more Jungkook POVs since I know a lot of readers are curious about his thoughts and getting inside his head more throughout the story. I will probably end up releasing a Jungkook POV for each chapter but it will most likely be after the series has ended so no spoilers will be revealed beforehand !

He did! Jungkook had a couple of relationships beforehand but they weren’t anything serious or stable really. It was more so ‘flings’ that he had and a couple of hookups. His future POVS may touch on this subject but they ended fairly normal, he tended to ‘ghost’ most of his hookups and some of his relationships ended better than others but it was nothing drastic I’d say. He was pretty careless and nonchalant about most of them, unless he saw “potential” in them then he’d start to get a bit more intense but it fizzled out quickly because they never met his ‘standards’ and he never felt the way he did when he first saw the MC with any of his other love interests .

He does have friends ! Haha, he lived a pretty popular social life when he was in college so he has a lot of acquaintances more than anything. People he’d hang out with to go to parties or just a night out ect. As for actual friends, his circle is smaller. He tends to not form close relationships with many people, although he’s sociable and ‘likeable” he kinda only keeps certain people around for his own benefit. Keep in mind, his circle growing up was other wealthy kids as well so they all tended to be quite superficial. The only people he’d consider his true friends are his more long term friends since high school or his childhood ( which we may or may not meet in the future chapters or drabbles 👀)

Producing "bromance" drama is very risky in Mainland China because the country does not support the LGBTQ+ community. If a production team wants to publish a series with same-sex relationships between the main leads and/or supporting cast they have to follow the standards set by the censorship, making it as "normal" as possible. Of course explicit skin-ship like kissing and cuddling is out of limit. Therefore, scriptwriters must do their best to convey the romance between the main characters by using various ways which implies that the relationship between characters leads to a romantic relationship in a very subtle way possible yet can be understood by the audience. The media are in the form of poetry, figures of speech, idioms, gestures, culture references, and even properties that are presented as a background.

As the people who live on the mountain a.k.a ShanRen we are lucky that Word of Honor passed the censorship despite Wen Ke Xing's shameless & blatant flirting 😅

But that's not the only "sugar" we get from this series. We are also fortunate to have Xiao Chu as a script/screenwriter. She is a big fan of Priest and takes on this project with passion 🔥 With her genius mind she has managed to create a story from a short novel (77 chapters), developed the plot and characters, and delivered a great show that can be enjoyed by all genders & ages. So even in the world of tragedy & bloodshed we can still enjoy a lot of "sugar" in this wuxia historical drama 😊

I would like to hear more about Vallerin and his relationship with Foulques 👀

I tried to answer this in the 2 hours I spent sitting at the bus stop for a bus that's supposed to come every 45 minutes but I would navigate away from tumblr and lose all my progress SO

LNC spoilers, typical Gridanian unpleasantness under the cut

To preface this, I absolutely have fucked around with the timeline to suit my soap opera purposes - the LNC quests occur not long after the Calamity, so Foulques returning to the Guild coincides with a deluge of prisoners (many of them Duskwights, because Gridania fucking sucks) escaping from Spirithold following damage it sustained during the event. Everyone is exhausted and grieving and unfortunately suspicious of strangers, and this is the atmosphere when Vallerin arrives fresh off the boat from La Noscea to volunteer to help where he can. He's very clearly Not From Gridania (not with that accent lmao), so I think he has a slightly better time of it than the other Duskwight recruits, but he sees how his brothers-in-arm treat them. He's not bold enough to confront any of them and instead broods about this and starts forming Opinions about the Lancer's Guild that he's going to mostly ignore during his first few levels (months?) there because there's a Lot Happening.

(I could write a lot more here about LNC 5 and how Ywain's lesson is about maintaining composure and not panicking and how that's going to play out later because Guess Who Is Prone To Panic Attacks, but suffice to say that before Vallerin meets Foulques he's thinking about Breathing Techniques)

Anyway Foulques shows up, calls everyone cravens, Vallerin thinks "well he's not wrong" before Foulques runs toward him with a lance and WOW IT'S A GREAT THING HE WAS THINKING ABOUT BREATHING TECHNIQUES ALL DAY because he doesn't even flinch? Foulques interprets this as bravery, Vallerin is just like 'OH THAT WAS INTERESTING' and doesn't stop thinking about this encounter for weeks.

As I have previously noted (and this was on accident but I loved the implications), the word I used to describe how Vallerin felt about this whole affair was 'fascinated.' He started dressing like Foulques, yes, but more importantly, he started asking questions about him around the Guild. Ywain was cagey and told him to focus on the task at hand (training and rebuilding efforts). No one really knows anything, and Vallerin has a very practiced and indulgent imagination, so a thousand narratives of what Foulques is getting at and how that initial encounter could have been different or what their next encounter would be like are floating through his head through most of the early quests. Vallerin is determined to live up to and exceed Foulques' expectations because

he thinks he's neat?

Also because Foulques says shit like "It was in that instant that I sensed you were unlike the others - that you had promise" and sends him on quests to (checks notes) defend the Lifemend Stump and clear corruption from Spirithold instead of, you know, killing squirrels and attempting to sneak around anoles. Foulques is absolutely appealing to Vallerin's childish sense of heroism honed from years of fighting imaginary foes alongside Yloise in the caves at Halfstone.

Also also he's tremendously lonely and probably spending more time with or thinking about Foulques than anyone else he's met in Gridania and I think at this point he's just. determined to make friends with him (Vallerin has never made friends with anyone in his life that wasn't his sister or the De Nevelles). He tries to engage Foulques in conversation during their "training," to get him to open up more, maybe tell Vallerin more about himself or his motivations, or to simply attempt to make him laugh at a dumb joke (Foulques does not laugh at Vallerin's jokes and he is very annoyed at these distractions from training but OH MY GOD if I do not write ONE scene where it finally happens, I may as well just retire from the Googledoc).

By the time the fight against the Forest Boar God happens, Vallerin would absolutely kill the thing to defend Foulques if necessary. This concerns Ywain, who finally starts to take a more hands-on approach to Vallerin's LNC training and sends him off to meet other LNC mentors that aren't the one who's been kidnapping recruits.

I do think that Vallerin leaves the LNC guild before the lvl 30 quest, due to mostly unrelated Fucking Up the Greenbliss Ceremony reasons, but Ywain seeks him out in the South Shroud to ask him to deal with Foulques' most recent crimes (which may have been influenced by Vallerin's unexplained absence from their "training") and blah blah lvl 30 Foulques is Unwell but Vallerin will not Panic and Will Not Let Him Fall Off a Cliff.

To copypasta some notes from the Googledoc, I know he’s fascinated by him, but Vallerin is probably at least a little in love with Foulques as well. There may be a moment between them when he rescues Foulques from falling off the cliff (holding him so tightly after pulling him back from the precipice, they have have fallen into each other’s arms and are just sort of processing what could have just happened, and Vallerin’s heart is beating a thousand miles a minute and Foulques’ face is so close, but Vallerin just like, hits him in frustration* instead of kissing him :/), but he has to send him to Coerthas for his own safety.

*like this is not a cute moment he’s fucking crying and he hits him hard and Tsimh has to bring him down from a panic attack after all this goes down because he just sent his friend and mentor and probably the person he loves to what may be an uncertain death AGAINST DRAGONS and may never see him again but at least he’s alive for now

I don't quite have anything past this point since Foulques is in Coerthas and Vallerin is busy with Gelmorra but I know he thinks about Foulques often and potentially writes him letters even if he doesn't know where to send them. I may have more if I end up doing DRG quests but I have not gotten that far yet (and I won't do them with Yloise so Estinien's dialogue doesn't reflect progress in that during Heavensward lmao).
