Malchidael Theory
New chapter was great as always, and was nuts too. But there's some interesting stuff I noticed about the newest character. Major spoilers for the newest chapter, so heads up.
Tumblr media
The first thing I noticed besides the obvious magical girl call outs (especially the shades of Sailor moon, Madoka magica, and Cardcaptor Sakura are strong with this) was her name.
Malchidael.
It's a eye catching name given current events. When looking it up I found out it belonged to the angel of Aries. Which fits given she seems to be representing the Aries part of The Leigon, what ever that is here in aoex land.
What's interesting is that Rin seems to have come here specifically looking for her, and only her. He's not interested in anything else. Just her, and immediately gets into a fight with her, and it ends with her death pretty quick.
Tumblr media
Rin even calls the goblins back, and leaves before reinforcements can show up. She's the only person he kills. He doesn't even touch the other exorcists hanging around when he probably could have taken care of them easily. He just fights Malchidael, kills her, then leaves.
It's a bit odd to be considering the set up. Same time it makes this character interesting. She's able to go toe to toe with Rin before he gets the advantage. She even begs him to not kill the "others". There's something off about her and the situation that makes me suspect that she might not even be human.
Any other time humans are introduced they have a last name. Even Angel was presented with one, and so was Lightening. The only time a character is introduced with one name only it's a demon.
It's also been established that angels and demons are the same creatures in this universe. So it makes me curious about who or what this girl really is. And what exactly Rin is up too with things as they are.

Owari no Seraph Chapter 140 - Thoughts and Analysis (Warning: Spoilers ahead)
Hmm, before starting, I'll make another post about my thoughts so far...I think, or rather I believe at this point, people have grasped the situation with the manga. The way it goes, it has started to connect like a massive web whose missing points are finally fitting...like a whole gear system.
(Hehe, yeah those thoughts will be for the next post)
Now returning or focusing to the latest chapter. In personal taste it was pretty much a bit tad boring given that there was a degree of expectation in terms of what'd appear but of course it doesn't mean it's bad. Actually, we got a new insight along a possible follow up fight between Ferid and Ky Luc.
First of all, the chapter starts with the ones trying to break free who are now again dancing to "save the world". Still, there's a degree of uncertainity given the "cost" of that "saving" the world.
Of course, I'm talking about a difference of ideals between Rigr Stafford, more commonly known as Saito and Urd Geales.
Urd and Rigr being the elders of the vampire council, tend to be the ones to take the decisions that are give more benefit to the world, but given the truth Rigr learnt first hand, doubt began to spread within Rigr along a change of mindset and heart given what the First went through.
Whereas for Urd, such action goes against order. Still, the two of them chose to listen what Yuu had to tell them.
Tumblr media
Next, Yuu. Yuu is finally playing smart. We got answered a big doubt ever since Shikama got devoured by Shinoa. Only 30% of his power is within Yuu, whereas the 70% lies with Shinoa.
As to why I mean he's playing smart, it is mostly that he is using that "love" the progenitors have for the First despite everything along the fact of the memories Rigr, the rest of the progenitors (excluding Krul and very likely all those 3rd progenitors that were turned into cursed gear) along Yuu. The fact that the angels existed is a key piece on what exactly the ideals align. But why do I state this?
Simple, Yuu does not exactly have full knowledge of spells. While it's true the First gave three special spells...it does not exactly mean he has all the requirements to trigger them and the second one to know about magecraft is Rigr Stafford as stated in the chapter.
Tumblr media
(What I think here is that...Yuu is actually underestimating Guren, Mahiru and Ferid a lot. While it's true he chose to finally leave the nest, there's a reason why I state this which will be for another post, yeh sorry eheh)
But within this, why did the idea of actually taking over the First's goals came to be?
For love.
Tumblr media
Rigr at first was like a child, hoping the First would actually acknowledge him as who he is, instead, he found that the First has been trying to resurrect all angels back, and of course with this, it goes with a second point which is "finding a reason to live".
The vampires were left with no reason, spending millenia without changing and now that a fragment of a possibility comes, Rigr isn't hesitating whereas Urd wishes to maintain order.
Tumblr media
But why is that? Why is it that Urd is against?
The reason very independent from the love he has for Rigr (I'm not saying it is a romantic love, but I leave it to interpretation for people. We don't know what they endured together when they were human but mayhaps one day we will) is the fact that there are heavy prices to pay in order to save the worlds mentioned. True, everything sounds like a great plan, like the best of the best saving every single thing out, but in order to do so, in order to create a miracle, something must be paid at the same level for such miracle to happen.
The progenitors so far only have a vague idea of the price; and so far they are still dancing to one end goal which was stated back in chapter 108
Tumblr media
The final event of the story is very likely heading to that detonation. The battle against the angels, BUT, that will only happen or course depending on which party wins. What do I mean?
Right now, there are four parties at hand.
-Human Team represented by the King of Humanity Kureto Hiragi.
Tumblr media
-Guren's Team. A team that is made of Guren, Mahiru and their wild card Ferid Bathory who so far will likely succeed on devouring the 5th Progenitor Ky Luc.
Tumblr media
-Yuu's Team which is integrated by the Progenitors, Mikaela and Yuu himself.
Tumblr media
Though, how far will such team endure everything? It is unknown for one factor that I'll actually explain later.
And lastly, the new team no one suspected to ever appear given that they were like lambs obeying and following due to the lack of power.
-Shinoa's Squad. Obviously, the team made of Kimizuki, Yoichi, Mitsuba and Shinoa. Who now have a possibility to turn the tables against the King of Humanity and very likely Guren's Team.
Tumblr media
All the lines or paths are finally starting to align, the big puzzle is finally merging; and the real battlefield is about to start. The war that will follow up won't be just power alone but strategy and how far the love each team will take them to.
Even if the Progenitors that are currently working with Yuu have chosen to follow up what the First was doing, there are possibilities that such plans won't exactly go as planned given that there are several things in common within three parties and that is the very fact that they are underestimating their respective enemies.
What do I mean?
Vampire Progenitors
The progenitors while holding deep knowledge along having a representant in such field such as Rigr, they have done one thing nonstop which is underestimating lesser Vampire Progenitors such as Ferid along humanity itself. Given their form of being immortals, they believe their battles will forever be won but humanity within the story has displayed that they can still take leaps in order to pursue their objectives.
Humanity's Team and their King of Humanity
While it's true Kureto, despite his methods, has actually tried to make sure humanity prevails; still, he's still in the dark, he has no clue he has several walking corpses but given that factor, along how chapter 140 played at the end, Guren won't allow the walking corpses to turn into dust but rather he'll keep fighting until their goal is set. But still, again they underestimate something. What is it?
Given that they belong to one generation, they believe they'll eventually have the upperhand, which means, they might pull a fight against the Progenitors but not exactly vs Yuu and the Shinoa Squad.
Guren's Team (Mahiru, Ferid and Guren)
Within this team, two of three are underestimating the guinea pigs they managed to gather, what do I mean?
While it is very likely that Yuu's departure was planned, one sole thing wasn't exactly planned. What do I mean?
Correct. In all the story of the manga, Guren made sure to only give power to one sole person within the Shinoa Squad and that was only Yuu given the purpose and goal he had in mind from the beginning. This also includes Mahiru and to some extent Ferid. But the new Wild Card that has popped out is not from the Black Demon Wielders but rather from Shinoa herself.
Given that Shinoa gave a full evaluation along having a purpose for life given that "love" is what fuels her goals along treasuring and protecting the family she has; true, Mahiru has awareness of the power Shinoa has to some extent but not how far they can go, and the very moment Guren's team left the squad and Ferid actually stopping watching them, this gave the opportunity for Shinoa to give her squad to fight on a more equal ground and now that she has the majority of the First's powers along knowing how to enhance and channel the power of all the demons, this can play as backfire against all the demon wielders within the story so far.
How long will it take for the story to finish? I'm not certain, but it is very likely that the end will eventually connect everything into one single thing.
What do you think guys? Let me know?

I wrote a short retelling of the ending spoilers for a discord server I'm in. And. Oh☹️ they changed how it was portraited. Of course they would☹️
They already changed how Lloyd would view his death– which, by the way, was seriously more tragic when he could FEEL himself die– to it just him being an outsider that can't feel or interact with anything
Novel Javier was holding back tears, trying to comfort Lloyd by telling him to Cheer Up, the doctor will be here soon, he even gave his heart a massage using mana vs Webtoon Javier with tears and sweat rolling down his face trying desperately to prolong Lloyd's life with a mana transfer
Idk the novel scene genuinely made me sad meanwhile the webtoon just made me go 0-0 ohh that cant be good. but. thats it
Like. Just.
Novel Lloyd who arrived at his own conclusion after Javier told him that the hole they dug to throw away all the excreements from the refugees was full even though it wasn't too long ago that they dug it out
vs
Webtoon Lloyd that was literally told to 'Remember Vienna'
Novel Lloyd, who, even in his deathbed, was still trying to comfort Javier by squeezing the hand that was holding him with all the strength he got left vs "Javier... That's enough... It's no use... and you know it... Live on... and burn them..." then promptly passes away
"Cheer up a little. Please. Lloyd-nim. Just hang in there. The doctor will be here soon." vs "You are... the protector of my second home... and a hero to the thousands of refugees you saved. That... is what the world will know you as."
Like. I don't know why this actually irritates me☹️
not only did they completely changed the way lloyd experiences the ending spoilers but y'know what infuriates me the most about this particular spoiler? the way they had lloyd see a good chunk of time after he's already dead. like!! no!!!! one of the most impactful things about the ending spoilers is how fast and abrupt and brutal they are!!
later on lloyd has to carefully time his death to make sure his past self gets to hear and see all the he needs! he can't make it too long lest his word not be included in the spoiler! because the spoilers always end the moment he dies and not a moment later! he gets to experience excruciating death and then the abrupt shock of being thrown back to his own time!
in the webtoon not only does he not get to feel himself die with every spoiler, in episode 70 he even gets to see javier prep his body and burn it along with everyone else's. like. that would've been an insane amount of time compared to the few minutes at best he gets in the novel!
and it's such a cheat to have lloyd leave himself a message at this point of the story! that isn't supposed to happen until the fourth spoiler! you see the progression of lloyd slowly learning to leave more and more clues at the time of his death to the point where by the fifth spoiler he's just outright talking to himself. not like the webtoon that has him leave a message already by the second spoiler :P
and like not to repeat back at you everything but. god. the way they completely changed javier's words,,,, like. not even close to what they were supposed to be...
"You can't... You can't leave me so soon." Javier's voice dripped with sadness and anxiety. Lloyd felt his hand being grabbed. Javier was trembling. This guy. Is he sad because I'm about to die? Lloyd guessed that his teasing friendship with Javier lasted as they grew old together. "Just hold on a little more. Please.” Javier spoke, almost pleading.
the 'you can't leave me so soon' of it all,,,,, why would they completely erase that,,,,,
novel javier is just... softer? the whole scene? instead of the frantic desperation we see in the webtoon, in the novel he's just,,, begging lloyd to hold on just a little longer, just wait for the doctor to arrive, almost keeping lloyd's heart beating himself
Lloyd suddenly felt Javier's grip tighten. At the same time, warm and clean energy flowed into his body. It was mana. Emergency treatment? Lloyd was right about it. Javier was sending his mana to Lloyd, and it traveled from his hand through the elbow to reach his chest, expanding its range at every beat and driving away the murky energy in his system. At the same time, it continuously pressed on his heart. Lloyd realized what Javier was doing. He's massaging my heart. It appeared as though this future Lloyd would draw his last breath anytime soon. Javier was striving hard to extend his life at all costs. Lloyd's heart ached as he noticed how desperate Javier was. "Master Lloyd. Please bear a little more. The physician will be here soon."
it's a different tone, a different kind of desperation if that makes sense
i also really like this chapter's illustration which is not what we get in the webtoon lol
Tumblr media
i won't put a screenshot of javier in this episode to compared them cause i'm not that bitchy but. c'mon.
having said all that. i kinda can't bring myself to completely dislike the webtoon's version aklshdjksfds
like. they kinda did go off with javier almost exploding his own heart to give his mana to lloyd,,, and then that panel of his hands clutching lloyd's shirt,,, cradling lloyd's hand in his own,,,, i am not immune to a little clinging,,,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but overall i completely get your irritation nonnie i do have a lot of grievances with the webtoon when it comes to how they're choosing to adapt the ending spoilers so. i get you 〒▽〒

My shaking hands became heavier and I noticed that Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung had grabbed onto my hands. "I think ahjussi is handsome." "Hyung, the face isn't everything." The only one on my side were the kids… no, Shin Yoosung. By the way, what was with the Ugly King? It seemed to be positioned as my nickname. I honestly didn't understand. I had never heard the word 'ugly' used towards me until the fall of the world. Yoo Joonghyuk was depressed but I was the one who had to suffer.
I swear all this ugly talk is going to give Dokja some kind of complex

Where hope dwells in time
His steps slow to a stop when he catches a glimpse of the inside of the concert hall.
It’s bright, filled with orange, mellow hues of wood. An organ’s gleaming pipes span the back wall above the stage where rows of musicians have begun to find their seats. The interior is old but elegant. He can hear the resonant cacophony of melodies overlap every time the back door opens.
The carpet in the front hallway is softer than the one in the back. His dress shoes sink with every step.
“Hey.” A sharp, pointy elbow prods him in the back. “Stop gaping. You look like a peasant.”
Yukio’s eyelid twitches when Shura saunters past him. “I wasn’t gaping.”
“Sure,” Shura drawls. “Well, just pass out your programs and look pretty.”
Yukio adjusts the sling on his arm before he follows after her. Shura’s footsteps are swift, and her heels leave fading marks in the plush carpet. Flowing, deep crimson folds of her dress curl around her ankles as she begins to climb the marble stairs to the entrance of the concert hall.
The building’s air is chilled, and it smells rather like a library. He can still see the dregs of summer dusk through the window they pass.
“I hadn’t realized it looked like this inside,” Yukio admits. “I walked past it nearly every day in middle school.” “Yeah. It survived the attack years ago.” Shura rolls her shoulders into a lazy shrug. “One thing is for sure. The old Order would never have bothered with this sort of thing.”
“But I’m glad we’re able to help now.” Yukio passes her half of the stack of programs, smiling as an elderly couple heads inside the concert hall to take their seats.
Shura gives a family of three programs and helps point them toward their seats. Most of the audience is well dressed in a myriad of colors. As the hall fills gradually, the lights are dimmed.
Just as they’re about to head inside to sit down, he feels his phone vibrate in his pocket. Rin is calling him.
“Wait, where are you going? It’s about to start,” Shura hisses.
“I know. I’ll be back in a minute.” Yukio tucks his remaining stack of programs under his arm as he steps away behind the stairs. “Nii-san? Did you finish your mission?”
“Yeah. Hey, are you almost done with your charity thing?” Rin asks. His voice is slightly breathless, and the murmur of traffic noises leaks through from his end at erratic moments. “Can you come back?”
Yukio glances back toward the concert hall full of orange light. His assignment as an usher is complete, but he’d been looking forward to watching the concert. More importantly, it’d be impolite to leave without thanking the donors.
“I need your help,” Rin says, drawing him from his thoughts with abrupt haste.
“With what?” Summer wind ruffles through Yukio’s hair as he nudges the door open with his shoulder. “Where are you?”
“I just have to look for… I don’t know,” Rin mumbles. “I’m at your place.”
“Do you need it right—”
He frowns as Rin hangs up. Just what is he in such a rush about to find at Yukio’s apartment of all places? It’s been nearly two months since he’s been back in Tokyo.
