and… so I found out that in the new video game in the same universe as Arkham Knight… Tim is killed.
BY BATMAN.
Will Tim Drake ever have peace in any DC universe? Why is he just killed or forgotten by DC? Yet he is one of our generation's most beloved…
Spoilers for Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum #1!
You can see some preview pages here.
Digger actually doesn't appear much in the issue -- these two pages, plus the one-panel cameo from the preview are the extent of it -- but he still manages to be memorable. The issue mostly sets up the backstory and premise of the new video game, establishing very clearly how cruel Arkham Asylum is and the cold arrogance of Amanda Waller, along with the desperation of the inmates. It's not at all surprising that they'd be willing to do her bidding to get out of that place, even at the potential cost of their own lives. Presumably the worldwide chaos mentioned at the end is part of the game, the reason why the Squad is sent to kill the Justice League. (I haven't played it.)
So there's not a whole lot to talk about in terms of Digger here, but he'll probably get more attention in future issues as the Squad moves into action. This one was more about set-up. I thought it was pretty good at what it intended to do, as it tells us a lot about the situation the inmates find themselves in and thus ultimately about their motivations. Plus, they're not wrong about Digger just being a garden-variety asshole! It's good that he's not being lumped in with the psychos, he's just a big jerk.
21. The Flash (2021) - Philippe (??? impact after being thrown by very cheap CGI thing)
I guess he breaks his spine?? Redemption equals death and all that. (did the Flash check his pulse or something I mean did that really kill him??)
22. Dune (2021) - Piter de Vries (poisoned)
Look, I don't do Dune, I don't know her, I don't talk to her, this hole was not made for me, but yeah, I'm given to understand it was definitely poison... I didn't see the rest after that, it was already too long 😖 (but Piter is really cute in the rain)
23. The Suicide Squad (2021) - Abner Krill (crushed)
Look, I have to put this on the list but lately I've been thinking a lot about how he really might not have died, and it was indeed all part of a plan to escape. That's my cope of the day
His face right as he says it tho
I actually can't cope 😭
Special mention: What If...? (2021) - Kurt Goreshter (??? offscreen ???)
Kurt was on the list but since it's my list and the way I'm viewing these things, I changed him to the 😵 session. She could have just pulled him and he fell and passed out, who knows. There are no noises to indicate he died, and Scott makes such a stupid joke about his friend dying that I decided to disown this one. He fell right onto some computers and hacked his way out of that place. Even if the whole thing is just a hypothetical scenario and I'm thinking too much about it anyway. Eh.
