Nikolai doesn’t know what to do or say anymore.

Killing Fyodor didn’t bring him peace or freedom but he can’t help but wonder if maybe killing someone who he loves might work, killing the one person he has left..

That feeling he felt when he held Fyodor’s dead hand, would he feel it again when he held you, pale and blue in the face? Would it be stronger, or would he perhaps feel numb?

You don’t have an ability, he could use a completely normal method… Even a knife would work.

But—

But he doesn’t want to.

Does an emotionless man exist, has one ever existed? Either way, Nikolai doubts it.

Maybe that’s a part of the reason he wishes for freedom, proving something or being the first for something.

He’s not even sure he knows, looking at the poisoned drink in his hands.

You’d gone to the bathroom and he’d put poison in your drink, expecting himself to giggle as always after.

But he didn’t and now he’s holding your drink in his hands because he can’t loose you, can’t loose the person who stuck by his side despite the knowledge they might die..

“Are you done with your drinks, sir?” A waitress asks, bringing Nikolai out of his head.

“…Yes, this one wasn’t touched though so you can have it, if you wish.”

The girl giggles, picking it up before going to the kitchen unknowingly.

“Stupid.” He chuckles out, his face lacking the usual ultra-happy or excited look but looking better than earlier.

You come out a few moments later with a questioning look at where you drink went and he simply winks, pulling you by your hand for a walk.

“Be honest, is the walk just a cover up?” You say during it, unsurprised when his hand teleports to pinch your cheek.

“Awh, so unfair to little old me! …Most true though. Your drink killed someone, my dear.”

i do like bg3 i do love getting to play out my 5e fantasies in a single player rpg and i think it's pretty polished for how huge it is but i cannot empathize with people treating the mains tory or the companions as masterworks of storytelling. the main story i can give a pass for needing to be massive to accommodate the size of the game and i do genuinely think the main three villains there are fun and i like them but for a game that identifies one of its draws as the unique companions and quests it is like... heartwrenching to see just from the volume of content which characters they liked and which they didn't care about
