So I just rewatched the first episode of tmnt 2k12 and wow is it different from watching it as a kid!

Below the cut is me ranting/questioning/commenting on all the choices made 💀 (mainly splinter’s) cause I need to get this out and if anyone else wants to add on or chat with me about it, PLS DO ❤️

Okay so what bugged me the most, throughout the entire first episode was realizing that Splinter, who was a human and turned into a mutant rat, doesn’t educate the turtles about ANYTHING human???

The setup they have is that basically for fifteen years the turtles haven’t left the sewers due to Splinter’s disapproval/orders/parental control! They’ve only eaten algae and worms??? And the only thing Splinter ever taught them was independent defense, (cause boi did they look rough tryna save April from the kraang)!

Like I don’t understand why Splinter doesn’t go with them when it’s their first time going up on the surface! Or why they have no knowledge of pizza or any other foods! It’s like Splinter decided his human life was over and he’d just adjust to a sewer life and not even think about the surface?!

Only now the boys are begging to go and so he’s like quickly telling them to avoid strangers, and bathrooms, and how to cross the street 💀 LIKE SIR if you are sooooo worried about them, why ain’t you up there too???????

I get that he lost everything, his wife, his daughter…👀… his home, his humanity! So who knows what they will do to a person, but if he’s apparently happy/satisfied with how his life is now, that he gained four sons, why not actually teach them about the world they are living under????

Idk maybe it’s because of how logical Mutant Mayhem Splinter was, he was a rat turned mutant, so he didn’t actually have any experience other than being a rat yet as a mutant he took a chance and went to the surface with all the tots! But that ended so badly that he lives in fear of going back up to the surface! The boys all are eating regular human food/getting groceries and are very knowledgeable about humans and society above! I don’t know if that’s due to splinter or due to technology but STILL, it’s wayyyyy more believable!

These were things that just took me off guard while rewatching! And that was just episode one… did anyone else have similar thoughts about 2k12 Splinter??? Like what?!?!

@allmightyscroll-swag came up with an au idea of what if the turtles were Lou Jitsu (he never became Splinter in this au) and Big Mama's bio children.

So I was immediately inspired to draw some half human half Jorōgumo designs!

Mikey (he/him) looks mostly human from the waist up, aside from the 4 eyes with yellow sclera (and the extra spider arms ig) But from the waist down hes alll spider baby!! Hes pretty half and half, at least compared to his siblings, though he cant produce any webs nor foes he have a poisonous bite he is still incredibly mystically powerful!

Now onto the twins!! (he/him for Leo and he/they for Donnie)

Theyre much more human presenting than the other two. And look like mirror images of each other. On their more spidery side (the one with the multiple red eyes) they both have patterns that go down the entire length of that side of their body. They both also have light purple hair, just a few shades darker than the hair Big Mama has in her human form, though Leo dyes his.

They both can produce webbing, but not in the same way big mama can make hers, in that they cant spew it as an attack, but can produce it as a steady thread (theyre both awesome at sewing) from the roof of their mouths. They also both have a venomous bite.

They can basically pretend to be human if they cover the more spidery side if their face with hair (thats why they have it grown so long) And hide their extra arms in a hoodie or something.

And finally we have Raph!! (he/she)

Clearly hes the most spider-like of his siblings, and his appearance often scares even yokai at first, and is often mistaken of an Oni. But have no doubt, she gives the BEST hugs ever!! He can spew webs just like Big Mama too, though her bite isnt as poisonous as the twin's, but has a stronger bite force.

Also this lad is BIG, almost as tall as big mama already! probably because hes afab, and female spiders are usually bigger than male spiders.

also if im just talking about donnie/disaster twins fanon things i dont understand today, i could NEVER see donnie doing a shovel talk esp with leosagi/leochi im sorry like he would never.... raph or mikey (especially raph) DEFINITELY but donnie is not protective of leo like that considering his reaction to leo getting into shit normally is "Lol" unless it is life threateningly dangerous. i think his reaction would either be "ew" or "im so happy for you and your ugly fucking boyfriend im so serious" because he'd be annoyed at the sappy shit. he's usually pretty quiet when he's protective so the weirdest thing i could see him doing is a weirdly violating background check he tells nobody about LMFAO

i dont think leo would shovel talk if donnie or mikey were to get a partner either (my hot take is that with RAPH though? ABSOLUTELY. leo would deliver the nastiest shovel talk on raph's behalf) unless he found them Sus..... especially if he doesnt know enough about them. i think he would scope around the situation and poke at it but he's usually pretty chillaxed idk

actually all three of raph's little brothers would deliver a shovel talk on his behalf. that's my hot take. less likely when it comes to each other but you do NOT fuck with big bro and they make sure of that
