Tour de Fleece 2024 (so far) 🧶🐑

I had planned to do a sweater spin for this year's tdf but that didn't work out how I wanted. So I modified my plans to spinning as much of the sweater spin as possible. Since I only have my nano I likely will get through about 7 of the 21 ozs I have to spin of this.

Recently got into Finding Frankie, fun game! (Plus a big fan of the whole subversion trope of “insert inanimate monster is alive/possessed”)

Decided to do my take on the contestant, plus a small blurb on why they have their new look :3!

After a couple of seasons, It was inevitable for the audience to get bored of their lucky contestant. Someone can only win so many times before it becomes the new normal. At least, that’s what Lucky thought.

(Lucky is pretty sure he only got his stage name thanks to Other Frankie calling him his lucky contestant every other sentence. Of course, Lucky also found it amusing when later on the actor for the Real Frankie ran into his office, hooping and hollering that the audience loved him. All because he finally got a chance to actually narrate rather than act as the camera person. That and he found it funny just how much of the audience believes the “Other Frankie” to be a living animatronic rather then an actor controlling a robot)

So, it was inevitable for their company to shake up the formula a bit. Especially since he was too valuable to “let go”.

Instead, they gave Lucky a new role. Rather than a contestant, he’d be the contestants mentor.

Lucky thought it was stupid, after all he didn’t have one and he survived just fine. But he knew his little nickname was for good reason.

But he’d do it. He was always a bit of an adrenaline junkie looking for a new challenge, plus, they still owed him his 5 million. And if they were short, he just needed to ensure they were raking in enough to get him it.

Really, his new job was pretty easy. All he needed to do was have his students practice the obstacle courses for around 6 months (though Lucky was sure they’d start cutting that down, at least for a couple contestants, need to ensure some bodies were dropping) to make sure they’d last longer then 5 minutes.

Easy job, Lucky is certain of that. Or, at least he hopes so.

please. please let this be the thing that finally breaks the cycle. I can't keep going as I am now and it's hard to see any way out. I need something in my life to change for the better- not that my life is unbearable, but I've been stagnating where I am for so long. I want to have the first full-time job of my goddamn life (at 31, which. you can see why I'm clawing the walls here)

I've had. one. ONE. interview for a full-time position in 8 years of looking. and now this. and it's been a week with no response. and I'm scared this is going to end up being nothing, too

I love when I see posts like "Share how many crochet WIPs you currently have! I have 5, it's so many!"

Like, girl, I have unfinished projects from over a decade ago that I refuse to frog on the off chance I decide to finish them. I've found years-old projects I forgot I even started and will impulsively just finish it on the spot. I've started three different projects in the last 2 months, including one I started yesterday, that I already know I may or may not finish within the year depending on motivation.

The number of WIPs I have is infinite.

so bingley is 100% obsessed with spinning wheels, for some reason, and with the eel wheel in particular, he's desperate to touch it. he's missing his right paw, so wasn't actively interfering in this photo, but he also realised that if he holds his left paw at juuuuust the right angle, he can clip the flyer on every rotation—just enough to touch (and slow it a little), not enough to catch himself on it.

thankfully, the objective here wasn't a super-consistent yarn, so it's not really a problem (right now), but also, come on. the other cats are interested in my fibre supply, like normal cats. this guy, though, is like a toddler who loves big machines, and is all about the wheels.

anyhow, first bobbin of this yarn's almost done—the remaining fibre for this ply is next to the wheel, and will probably get finished off this evening.

25-11-2023, part one:

I got my first whole fleece! It's from a Walliser Schwarznase (Walliser Blacknose). I already got rid of all the dirty and matted parts (pictured is the whole fleece before cleaning), and I took the very dirty edges off to do an experiment on cleaning.

The length of the fibers is +- 10 cm and the locks are very soft. There is quite a bit of vegetable matter, but I think that's to be expected. Look at those curls though! So pretty! I'm thinking about keeping some locks to use as texture while spinning.

Currently I'm scouring some of the dirty sides in warm water and dish soap, to see if they can be used for a test spin. A lot of brown water has been discarded already, so it looks to be cleaning up nicely. I hope it won't mat :)

The rest of the fleece has been rolled up in an old blanket and stored for now, untill the test spin has been done.

Now I have to see if I can borrow a carder from someone (or hand cards), so I can try to spin some up! (Once it is clean and dry, that is). Goal will probably be to spin a sweather out of this.

Updates wil follow in the next days/weeks! I'm very excited :D

Obligatory update on the project yeah yeah!

Although I don’t want to outright spoil all the progress I’ve made so far, I can’t deny that I’m ready to brag about this spin segment looking hella cool jksjsksp. Just need to maybe add in the flame movement for the background + fix that one minions broken face but otherwise this part is complete :D

So, I spun and plyed a whole batch today.

I am still park and drafting, but that should get better as I get better. The biggest problem is that I cannot get a consistent thickness which means that the twist is concentrating in the thinner spots. Besides that it is also thicker in general than I would like, but that is also practise.
