Tour de Fleece 2024 (so far) 🧶🐑

I had planned to do a sweater spin for this year's tdf but that didn't work out how I wanted. So I modified my plans to spinning as much of the sweater spin as possible. Since I only have my nano I likely will get through about 7 of the 21 ozs I have to spin of this.

I know tumblr has a misogyny problem, but the way some of yall talk makes me think some of you genuinely view misogyny as a less serious form of oppression than other forms of oppression

still no word back on the well-paid stitcher job and I'm losing my mind

please. please let this be the thing that finally breaks the cycle. I can't keep going as I am now and it's hard to see any way out. I need something in my life to change for the better- not that my life is unbearable, but I've been stagnating where I am for so long. I want to have the first full-time job of my goddamn life (at 31, which. you can see why I'm clawing the walls here)

I've had. one. ONE. interview for a full-time position in 8 years of looking. and now this. and it's been a week with no response. and I'm scared this is going to end up being nothing, too

what's wrong with me? why does no-one want me for anything? why will no-one even give me a chance?

I love when I see posts like "Share how many crochet WIPs you currently have! I have 5, it's so many!"

Like, girl, I have unfinished projects from over a decade ago that I refuse to frog on the off chance I decide to finish them. I've found years-old projects I forgot I even started and will impulsively just finish it on the spot. I've started three different projects in the last 2 months, including one I started yesterday, that I already know I may or may not finish within the year depending on motivation.

The number of WIPs I have is infinite.

#crochet #knitting #needlepoint #sewing #embroidery #shoutout to the time it took me 4 years to make my dad a hat. and like 6 years to make a turtle for a teacher.#i picked up yarn spinning for ONE day in like 2017. i have not done it since.#there's a half finished elephant amigurumi sitting in a basket and i started that guy in like 2011 #i have two maybe three shawls i know of that are sitting unfinished in a storage bag #plenty of swatches of things that i start and lose interest in #currently i have a cardigan i wanted to make and started it and then got bored so i stopped #there's a hat i was knitting for my nanna that i started maybe 2 days before she passed #and that's sat unfinished i can't even look at it. i have no clue if i'll ever actually finish it.#there's at least one skirt i never finished sewing. and two skirts i have all the materials for but haven't started.#i know i have one beach cover up dress and one cover up skirt that i started in 2017 and didn't finish.#i think my oldest work in progress though dates back to when i was 9 or 10. i made a slipper. never finished the other foot.#that was in 2005 or 06. so literally i might have WIPs older than someone who is reading this.#and those are the just some of the ones i REMEMBER. buried in my yarn stash are probably others i've just forgotten.

movie sonadow would be so l umity-coded…and i say this bc their dynamic is similar to the games but with a different and tender perspective: they both empathize deeply with each other now, and this shadow is not as reticent or closed off bc of that. that being said: movie!sonic would ABSOLUTELY 'YOU'RE the sweet potato!' the hell out of shadow

#i say l umity bc they're my fave yardstick for romantic relationship progression #between two characters who're barely just starting to know themselves let alone their feelings #and bc they're cute. and i have been thinking abt (made sleepless over‚ really) sonic being SO ecstatic to find shadow alive #i just see movie!sonic being more physically affectionate n movie!shadow (w the both of them having already seen each other at their worst)#feeling less of a need to put up a front. not much to hide from the guy you pleaded with to kill you on the moon yk?#speeds over‚ loops his arms and spins him 'round #he would be SO excited to show shadow fun earth stuff #and on a deeper level‚ i think a liiiiiittle bit of it'd be projection #he knows their situations aren't the same. but yet again‚ here's another hedgehog in a strange new world #and he wants to give him everything he wished he'd had when he arrived #so he shows him crappy reality tv and new kinds of foods and other kinds of constellations‚#the proper way to give a fist bump (bc shadow was going to genuinely punch him and he had to explain)‚ and books from the library #they get more movies. sonic teaches him how to play mario kart. he knux and tails induct him into their baseball games #and sonic is delighted to find they have the same problem of hitting the ball Way Too Hard #he answers every question shadow has to the best of his ability #and like. the Main Thought that's been plaguing me is that one day he gets shadow a picture frame #and - idk how sonic got it‚ just roll with it - sonic reveals the picture of shadow and maria #and explains that tom had that section of his old cave‚ the one w the picture of longclaw excavated and preserved #and he doesn't know how tom did it‚ but now she's in his new home too. he doesn't have to leave her behind just bc he found somewhere new #basically trying to show him that it's okay to grieve and to KEEP grieving. that just bc you've been understood‚ that love goes away.#but yeah. they drive me nuts #sonadow #sonic movie 3 spoilers #sth

so bingley is 100% obsessed with spinning wheels, for some reason, and with the eel wheel in particular, he's desperate to touch it. he's missing his right paw, so wasn't actively interfering in this photo, but he also realised that if he holds his left paw at juuuuust the right angle, he can clip the flyer on every rotation—just enough to touch (and slow it a little), not enough to catch himself on it.

thankfully, the objective here wasn't a super-consistent yarn, so it's not really a problem (right now), but also, come on. the other cats are interested in my fibre supply, like normal cats. this guy, though, is like a toddler who loves big machines, and is all about the wheels.

anyhow, first bobbin of this yarn's almost done—the remaining fibre for this ply is next to the wheel, and will probably get finished off this evening.

25-11-2023, part one:

I got my first whole fleece! It's from a Walliser Schwarznase (Walliser Blacknose). I already got rid of all the dirty and matted parts (pictured is the whole fleece before cleaning), and I took the very dirty edges off to do an experiment on cleaning.

The length of the fibers is +- 10 cm and the locks are very soft. There is quite a bit of vegetable matter, but I think that's to be expected. Look at those curls though! So pretty! I'm thinking about keeping some locks to use as texture while spinning.

Currently I'm scouring some of the dirty sides in warm water and dish soap, to see if they can be used for a test spin. A lot of brown water has been discarded already, so it looks to be cleaning up nicely. I hope it won't mat :)

The rest of the fleece has been rolled up in an old blanket and stored for now, untill the test spin has been done.

Now I have to see if I can borrow a carder from someone (or hand cards), so I can try to spin some up! (Once it is clean and dry, that is). Goal will probably be to spin a sweather out of this.

Updates wil follow in the next days/weeks! I'm very excited :D

Obligatory update on the project yeah yeah!

Although I don’t want to outright spoil all the progress I’ve made so far, I can’t deny that I’m ready to brag about this spin segment looking hella cool jksjsksp. So, I spun and plyed a whole batch today.

I am still park and drafting, but that should get better as I get better. The biggest problem is that I cannot get a consistent thickness which means that the twist is concentrating in the thinner spots. Besides that it is also thicker in general than I would like, but that is also practise.
