Essential Instruments Used in Spine Surgery

Spine surgery is a highly specialized field that requires precision, control, and stability. Surgeons rely on a variety of specialized instruments to perform delicate procedures that involve the vertebrae, discs, and spinal nerves. These Spine surgery instruments assist in bone cutting, fixation, decompression, and tissue manipulation, ensuring the success of the surgery while minimizing damage to surrounding structures.
Rongeurs and Kerrison Punches
Rongeurs and Kerrison punches are critical instruments used to remove bone and soft tissue during spinal decompression procedures. These instruments feature sharp, scoop-shaped tips designed to bite through bone efficiently, allowing surgeons to create space around compressed nerves. Kerrison punches, in particular, are widely used in laminectomy and discectomy procedures to remove small portions of the lamina and relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.
Bone Cutting and Elevation Instruments
Osteotomes, chisels, and elevators are used to cut, reshape, or lift bone structures. Osteotomes resemble chisels but have sharp, beveled edges that allow for controlled bone cutting. They are commonly used when performing spinal fusion procedures to prepare bone graft sites. Elevators, such as the Cobb elevator, are used to separate soft tissues from bony structures, helping surgeons access the spine safely without unnecessary trauma.
Spinal Retractors
Spinal retractors are essential for maintaining a clear and stable surgical field. These instruments help hold back muscles and tissues, providing unobstructed access to the surgical site. Common types include the Caspar retractor, which is used in anterior cervical procedures, and the Taylor retractor, which assists in lumbar spine surgeries. Self-retaining retractors minimize the need for additional hands in the surgical field, enhancing efficiency.
Disc and Nerve Root Retractors
Specialized retractors are also used to protect nerve roots and spinal discs during surgery. Nerve root retractors gently hold back nerve structures, preventing damage while allowing the surgeon to access the affected spinal area. Love and Scoville retractors are commonly used for this purpose, ensuring delicate nerve handling in procedures like herniated disc removal.
Spinal Fixation and Fusion Instruments
Spinal fusion procedures require implants and specialized instrumentation to stabilize the spine. Pedicle screw systems, rods, and plates are used to provide structural support and encourage bone fusion. Instruments such as pedicle screw drivers, rod benders, and bone graft inserters help position and secure these implants with precision. These tools are critical in maintaining spinal alignment and preventing further instability.
Curettes and Laminectomy Instruments
Curettes are small, scoop-like instruments used for scraping and removing damaged disc material or bone fragments. They are commonly employed in discectomy and spinal decompression surgeries. Laminectomy instruments, including pituitary rongeurs and bone nibblers, help remove portions of the vertebrae to relieve pressure on the spinal cord. These tools play a crucial role in treating conditions like spinal stenosis and herniated discs.
Conclusion
Spine surgery requires a wide range of specialized instruments to ensure precision, safety, and effectiveness. From rongeurs and retractors to fixation tools and nerve protectors, each instrument plays a vital role in maintaining surgical accuracy and improving patient outcomes. With continuous advancements in surgical technology, spine surgery instruments are evolving to enhance efficiency and minimize surgical risks, contributing to better spinal health and recovery for patients worldwide.

Sebastian Solace x GN! Reader | Daily Life AU | The Plan
"Oh, you're back . Let me grab your file." Sebastian said, his back was turned.
The only light in the room was his eyes and his lure . His fingers brushed through the files . He didn't want to say it, but he was thankful you had died . You had the crystal , you were so close . That worried him .. All these monsters, these obstacles, and even Painter . It's all there just to buy him time.
"I just need to buy us more time, and this.. Filth has gotten way too close." He thought to himself. He clenched his jaw behind his lips, he knew you could barely see his face, but he didn't want to drop his friendly merchant persona unless he had to.
"There it is." His voice echoed, and he passed you your file. He clasped his hands together, you were still disoriented. He let out a sigh, "You don't have to read it, but don't waste my time."
Y/N's hands trembled as they accepted the file from Sebastian, her gaze never leaving his inscrutable features . The faint echo of his voice resonated through the quiet room, sending a shiver down their spine . Disorientation washed over them like a cold wave, making it difficult to focus on anything but the sea creature standing before them.
Sebastian clasped his hands together , he saw you shake your head . He raised his chin in defiance, staring at you in disgust . Humans are rather disgusting creatures, aren't they ? Sebastian's expression hardened, his lips curling into a sneer as he beheld Y/N's shocked face . With a dismissive flick of his gaze, he summed them up with contemptuous disdain.
"No .. I'm just really disappointed in myself..." He heard your voice crack.
He lowered his guard.
Did he hear that right? Or rather was this another manipulation tactic by the many other Urbanshade criminals that come and go?
Many expendables break down, whether it's anger, sadness, or no reaction at all. Just.. Shock. He's learned not to get attached to people; Sebastian didn't want to go through what he's already gone through. Not again ..
"You reaaaally like to waste my time , are you done yet? .. Let's get one thing straight, I don't care about you or your feelings. You're here because of your crimes. Let's see your file.." He turned around, shuffling back into the darkness.
The small light to his lure grew further away before his voice spoke up once more . "That's right, riiiight here."
"You were charged with second-degree murder, and caught red-handed." The file slammed shut with a harsh finality, his venomous retort searing into Y/N with a sneer. "Quite the charge, isn't it? It means nothing down here." He spoke with venom.
You stared at him, before looking back down at the file of what had killed you again.. Before opening your mouth to speak. Sebastian noticed your hesitation, assuming he had finally won.
"I did it because I had to .. I was in danger. Out of everyone down here, I'd think you'd understand." You spoke.
Sebastian felt a vein pop from that sentence.
All the bloodshed, the corpses he had torn apart. Sebastian's mind recoiled at the gruesome memories, each one more visceral than the last. The metallic tang of blood, the crunch of bone beneath his teeth, the slick feel of entrails spilling from ruptured abdomens, all these horrors twisted in his thoughts, swarming feelings of anguish, revulsion, and numbness. Bit by bit. He vividly remembered tearing into the flesh of other Urbanshade soldiers, biting into the tendons of the scientists, feeling every inch of the pain from the constant surgeries, and being cut open. He felt so much in pain, that he wanted to die from every waking moment of the medical procedures. His body was violated and reshaped against his will. Every incision, every probing instrument, every stitch pulled had been a fresh hell. The pain was a constant companion, a gnawing entity that refused to relinquish its grip. Even now, decades later, the echoes of that torment lingered, festering in the darkest recesses of his psyche.
"You SHUT UP!" His hands slammed onto the desk.
"YOU AND I ARE NOTHING ALIKE!"
"And frankly I don't give I fuck, even if I did understand! I was never filthy scum like you , you deserve to be down here. You should've been in MY place, I! WAS! INNOCENT! ... YOU! .. I hate YOU the most." He spat, before closing the file.
He turned his back, placing the file back into its organized spot in the darkness. He heard you mumble something under your breath, while he was putting the file away. His head perked, and his teeth became visible in annoyance. He was ready to tear you apart now, you were getting on his last nerve.
"And what was that?" He growled, this fucking pissed him off.
"I said come with me!" You shouted, and that caught him off guard. "I'll try again , just give me another try! I know I won't remember much, but I'll try until I make it , you'll come with me.." You were sobbing.
Sebastian hid in the shadows, slowly relaxing as he realized, you weren't mad, nor were you a threat. You were just stupid.
'Save those tears ' he wanted to say, but nothing came out.
It was like a lightbulb went off, he knew what to do, and he wanted to play along too . You were expendable after all, not just to Urbanshade, but to him too. His grin slowly formed back. He slithered towards you, gently picking you up, and carrying you back to the beginning. He looked down at you , you were passed out. This was routine. This always happened, every time ..
" Oh Expendable, I don't even bother to know your name.. You're a pain in the ass." He said, before lying you down. Surely someone else would find you in a safer area much as this one, and they'll do it over again, and again .
But this time, it'll be different. Oh yes. He had a plan.
He relaxed, and clasped his hands together, staring at your sleeping body.
This time, he'd help you escape. You're just a tool to him. Nothing more, nothing less. You were his stupid expendable, and his ticket to getting out.
He wiped his hands off his clothes in disgust after touching you, before slithering off into the shadows ... Sebastian had many years to memorize the corridors of the facility, so it was easier to navigate to Painter's room. The only thing is, it was rather boring and time-consuming... Sebastian eventually ended up entering Painter's office space, his .. Jail. More or less.
"Sebastian! How are you? Did you miss me? Were you thinking of me? Did you find a way out?" Painter smiled , his screen flickered on, showing his animated face smile and nod in excitement.
"I might have just figured our way out." Sebastian clasped his hands together, with a rather devious sneer. "Follow my lead, okay?" Sebastian chuckled darkly.
So just like I said on my AO3, this was in my drafts. I'm still writing, but I've been struggling due to poor mental health. Art is my main hobby, and I didn't really expect my fics to kinda blow up like they did. SO IM LIKE... OKAY. THATS CRAZY. Anyways, enjoy some backstory where you tame Sebastian basically.

Three things: flower petals, satin, and sand
For Bodhi.
Tagging: @kmc1989 @dolphs-darling @kpopgirlbtssvt @tinyhandsnation @madisonbroxson1
Companion piece to:
Ayahuasca - A bad trip at a wellness retreat brings you and Bodhi together.
Tantric - Bodhi and you have something truly unique.
Sunset - Bodhi reflects upon your relationship as you watch the sun set.
Sex Magic - Bodhi thinks about how far he's come since meeting you.
Journaling - Bodhi reflects on how he ended up in Tulsa.
Espresso (NSFW) - Bodhi and you piss off the HOA once more with your antics.

Bodhi wakes up to the sensation of flower petals gracing his skin, they feel like satin as they trail along the scars from his first surgery, the one that saved his life. His breath hitches as they dance lower, following his treasure trail until they reach his hardening cock. His fists grip the sheets, his head tilting back into the pillow at the first stroke over his dick, it’s a gentle, featherlight caress that stokes the ecstasy that’s building in the base of his spine.
“Pippa.” He pleads and your mouth covers his, heightening the sensation as you twirl the petals across the tip of his cock bringing him to his peak. You drink down his moan as he comes, white streaks painting his stomach as his hips arch and his back bows.
“Fuck.” He drawls as you leave the flower discarded on his chest so you can tuck the hair back behind his ear. His hand reaches up, clasping it to his heart and that’s when he realises that this instrument of pleasure, it doesn’t come from his sand garden.
“Pippa.” He chides as you snuggle in close, your head coming to rest on his shoulder as you sigh contently. “Have you been stealing from the neighbours again?”
“You can’t own nature.” You mumble into the curve of his throat and he sighs, his fingertips stroking lightly through your unruly hair. “So I consider it more of a liberation.”
“I don’t know how well that’s going to play with the Home Owner’s Association.” He tells you as he stares down at the purple bloom, the way his come looks splattered across the petals. “Tell me this is the only one you took.”
You hide your face, burying it in his chest and Bodhi already knows there’s a pitcher of these sitting in the centre of his kitchen table.
“You’re a bad girl Juniper Jones.” He whispers into your hairline and he can feel your smile against his skin as you murmur.
“Just the way you like me.”

Just finished reading the first part of the Book of Martyrs (Sisters of Battles anthology) and found it to be surprisingly good!
Things I really loved about it while trying to keep spoilers light:
1. The description of Sister Ishani's Hospitaller gear; how incredibly advanced it is and also fitting for the Imperium, how incredibly stupid.
Her augmentic eye does both the equivalent of MRI and Cat-scan, she does advanced chemical analysis on the fly, she conducts advanced emergency endovascular surgery in the field with only the gear she carries on her back and in her vambrace. She seals open wounds with a mixture of mulched communion wafers and sacred oils. It suggests appropriate prayers for her to sing while doing first aid.
2. The Sisters of the Valorous Heart, black-armoured badasses all. Complete disregard for their own suffering in the face of the foe.
We have one Sister getting her bolter hand and part of her arm cut off, she simply picks up her bolter with the other hand, steadies it on her spurting stump and continues firing.
Another good example is a Sister being impaled on a huge Tyranid limb, cut open from belly to sternum. Once she realises she's dead her reaction is to clamp down on the killing limb with both hand, knuckle-deep in her own viscera; keeping the alien fixed so her Sisters can escape.
3. This fucking thing

Who needs a chainsword when you have a bonesaw on your wrist? I lost count of the number of Tyranids that this whispering instrument of mass amputation maims or kills during this short novel.
3. Facing down a Lictor with two rounds of bolt pistol ammo and two syringes of morphine-derivate between three Sisters.
4. The Immolation Cell mechanism. Hopelessly archaic, dumb, and cool. Perfect for the Imperial aesthetic.
5. Palatine Gundred, and how she's described as being a absolute beast of a woman. No specifics are given but she's huge. She's described as a "gray-haired tower" among other Sisters and "filled the bench with her enormity".
Love that.
6. The Lictor. Though a complete asshole, it's also very very cool. As a Tyranid afficionado, I approve.
7. Borvo the cyber-cherub.
8. The pre-battle prayer scene sent chills down my spine. I'm a sucker for well-written religious scenes.

I have no idea if the rest of the anthology is as good, but for me, the Martyrdom of Sister Ishani is in itself worth the prize of the book.

— doctor!price
tw: miscarriage, brief injury description.
masterlist | taglist | request info
he paces the hospital corridors with narrowed eyes and a one thousand mile stare, each and every passing nurse smiling at him to no avail. he’s too grumpy for it, too sleep deprived and mentally fucked.
will spend seven hours in the surgery theatre without a break, steady hands remaining true to their skill though the silence in the room felt deafening — like a simulation he had blacked out from until leaving the cooped up room to discard the surgical gear. his nurse removing all gloves and outer scrubs, asking him to pivot for the sanitisation spray before stepping back out into the busy corridors.
immediately bombarded with calls and blue light situations, as if he hadn’t earned any resemblance of a break. rubbing a rough hand across his brow before assigning multiple people to seperate cases and dragging himself down to his second theatre of the night.
he’s been on shift for sixteen hours at this point, finding zero time to fall asleep in one of the barren on call rooms before he had been requested with a sharp bang to the door. promptly stirring from his failed rest before sitting on the side of the bed, palms either side of himself after they had dug into his eyes.
“can you run down to labour ward? there’s two complications with babies. one mum.” and see, that was the skill with dr price, he was a trick of many trades. requested everywhere for the short staffing and lack of deep experience within his team, it was exhausting but at what other cost?
and so he did, pulling his coat back on before swinging the door open to meet his assistant nurse. a lovely woman, some of the time.
“don’t walk with me.” he said bluntly, watching as she steeled herself before entering the lift with him, doors shutting in her face for a brief moment of silence — perfection really, the four stainless steel walls of the lift seemed ethereal to his sanity for the five seconds of peace he got. not before it was interrupted by an ambulance team and one or two a&e members, carting a bed into the cramped space and price pushed himself back up against the wall to create space.
“price, any thoughts? broken spine disc and degloving of both arms. we’re taking him for a CT, though it’s likely he’ll see a storm.” he cursed himself for being in the same fucking lift he was praising mere seconds ago, leaning forward to look over the younger man.
“don’t say that.” he cleared his throat. “you don’t know.” seeing a storm often passed for death, though it was loosely guided in a different direction for if you were to say it in front of a patient it shouldn’t land immediately. or at all, well that was the idea. not that it worked.
“keep me updated on that.” he pointed, hating that he was now involved before squeezing past to take his stop at the labour ward. the familiar sound of baby cries and alarms was one that he hated. it was literal scarring, almost a trigger having spent so many of his specified training years an obstetrician.
and in taking all of two steps into the area, he was swiftly being guided in an immediate direction, current doctors filling him in on what’s going on and their preventative measures — ones that worked, ones that didn’t.
“get me forceps. now.” he instructed with an unmissable sense of rush to his voice, holding his palm out for every requested instrument before making the decision to admit to theatre for a last ditch caesarean. a decision he was beyond baffled hadn’t been made twenty minutes ago upon examination.
he couldn’t run it, immediately moving to another unhealthy baby that when one was lost in that theatre room, he couldn’t help but take the brutal weight on his shoulders.
his face was like thunder, unable to patch up his outward disdain for this ward upon helping a separate mother and baby to safety. her cheeks were damp with tears, exhausting wilting at her bones though she took the time to take prices hand and thank him dearly. a genuine thank you, one that he nodded absently at, mumbling how he would possibly see them in a few months for check ups before darting out the room.
one door down was the mother who had lost hers. only a thin wall between sheer joy and unknown disparity, she hadn’t woken yet. and price didn’t want to be here when she did, it wasn’t something he could handle — not anymore, not this ward. not today, not next week or even next month. “i’m sorry.” was all he could mumble to the unconscious woman, standing by her bed and staring at her for all of ten seconds before running his hands through his hair with a sharp inhale.
tears pricked at his eyes and he cleared his throat to push them away, a heavy frown infiltrating his brow before shaking his head and leaving the room. avoiding every last drop of eye contact before retreating back to the lift of death and ironic serenity back to his preferred floor of neurology.
deep. breaths.
this was a lot supposed to be headcannons nvm. it’s unedited.
i would fucking love to write a series on this, this was just a taster for the character. comments and reblogs are greatly appreciated!

We interrupt the usual sporadically and unscheduled Hellcheer programming to post a ficlet in a fandom I've never written in before!
Have a little Kanej scene, set (spoilers for early on in Crooked Kingdom) right after Inej has been rescued.
Unravel
Inej stood in a side catacomb of the mausoleum surveying the hollow in the wall. It had presumably been created to house the dearly departed of the mercher whose name adorned the crypt, but devoid of casket and lined with a blanket it would be her sleeping quarters for the scant hours she had before the plan kicked off. It felt fitting – the exhaustion in her bones told her she would sleep like the dead.
She stretched, watching the candlelight send monstrous shadows dancing on the walls, aware of – but not tuned in to – Jesper and Wylan’s hushed bickering in the main room. She closed her eyes and breathed deep of the damp air, thankful to be among familiar sounds again.
The Wraith was used to the silence of the shadows, the quiet of the rooftops above the clamor of the Ketterdam streets, but in those long and lonely days in Van Eck’s dark cell she craved the sounds that she knew as well as her own heartbeat.
Nina’s contented sigh as she indulged in something delicious, and Matthias’s audible swallow as he watched her; the well-oiled click of Jesper’s guns as he cocked and uncocked them, taking aim at some imagined target before twirling and holserting them once more; Wylan’s melodic hum as he toiled over some device or elaborate technical drawing; the loping swift gait and sharp tap of a cane on stone.
Inej’s ears pricked as the last sounded in the room behind her, silencing the conversation. Hissed words followed, then a shuffling of papers and hurried steps before the sound of the door closing, clearly closed as quietly as possible. Uneven steps stopped at the entrance of the catacomb.
She supposed she should thank him for rescuing her, but she didn’t want to hear how he was protecting his investment again. She didn’t want to think of that stage and its makeshift surgery; the brutal instrument swinging high; her acceptance that she was a commodity best kept pristine. She didn’t want to think how Dirtyhands needed her – unbroken, undamaged, and ready to work.
“You didn’t have to make them leave,” she said instead without turning around.
“They were being too loud,” came Kaz’s rasp. The gravel of his voice rolled down Inej’s spine and she fought the shiver left in its wake.
“They weren’t bothering me.”
“I need you sharp.”
Inej scoffed. “If I can sleep at the Slat, I can sleep here.”
“You need to rest.”
“I will,” she snapped, finally looking over her shoulder at him. His still and ever-inscrutable gaze was locked on hers, though the angles of his face shifted between shadow and candlelight as the flame flickered between them. “I am,” she said softer.
As if showing just how committed to the cause of resting she was, she turned away from him and started loosening the long braid from its coil. Letting her hair down – literally or figuratively – was not something she tended to do in company. And while she wouldn’t be entirely relaxed – her ears still alert for danger, her body ready to spring into action – she longed for a modicum of comfort while she slept.
The braid swung free then stilled down the center of her back, the tip stopping at her waist. She reached back and pulled the tie from the end, letting the rope of hair fall back behind her. She thought the slow, deliberate ritual would assuage his fears and he would slink off somewhere to no doubt set another part of his plan into motion, leaving her in peace.
But the shadows merged and loomed on the wall in front of her as he stepped closer instead. She heard the clunk of the cane put to rest on the wall beside her, a pause, a shaky inhalation.
And then Kaz’s deft fingers were unwinding the tight braid. Slowly, methodically, more gentle than she could’ve imagined; not one hair was tugged or snagged in the seams of his leather gloves. He was careful not to touch her as he lifted the braid and slipped the strands free of their twists.
Inej tried to listen to his breathing, waiting for it to turn erratic like it did in the Fjerdan prison cart, but her heart thundered in her chest and she could focus on nothing but it and the shivers Kaz’s touch was sending down her spine through her hair.
Heat radiated off his body pressed so close to her back. So close, but not close enough. She felt herself sway, woozy with the contact, but he always stayed just out of reach.
Braid unraveled, he reached the tie at the crown of her head; she held her breath as he paused once more, letting it out in a rush as he plunged his finger into the tight loops that held her hair. He pulled, just this side of gentle, the drag on her roots sending sparks across her scalp and tearing a gasp from her lips as he slipped the tie down, slow and measured.
Inej swallowed, her mouth falling open as if to speak, unknown words barely forming before she felt his long, elegant fingers slide into her hair, combing out the waves, caressing the tension from her scalp. Her roots ached from being pulled so high for so long, and his delicate touch soothed and excited in equal measure.
She suppressed a moan as tentative fingers dragged the curtain of hair from her ear, turning her head towards the heat of him, the ragged breath on her neck. Her eyes slipped closed.
“I’m… trying,” he said quietly, his usually composed voice stuttering, his words and the buzz of proximity tingling against her feverish skin.
In an instant she felt the cool breeze on her back and she opened her eyes to see his hand snatch the cane from its place by the wall.
His hurried steps were through the mausoleum and out the door before she realized the hand she saw had been uncovered.

The Benefits of Chiropractic Care in Bentonville
Chiropractic care is a natural and effective approach to pain relief and overall wellness. Whether you’re recovering from an accident, experiencing chronic pain, or seeking prenatal care, chiropractic treatments offer a non-invasive solution to many common health concerns. If you are looking for expert care, a Chiropractor in Bentonville can help restore mobility, reduce discomfort, and improve your quality of life.

Chiropractic Care for Car Accident Recovery
Car accidents can lead to serious injuries, such as whiplash, back pain, and misalignments that cause long-term discomfort. Seeking Car Accident Chiropractic Care can accelerate recovery by addressing spinal misalignments, reducing inflammation, and restoring proper movement. A chiropractor uses targeted adjustments to alleviate pain and prevent further complications, helping patients avoid long-term reliance on medication or surgery.
Relief from Headaches and Migraines
Frequent headaches and migraines can disrupt daily life and reduce productivity. While medications may offer temporary relief, they do not address the underlying cause. A headache and migraine chiropractor focuses on spinal adjustments that relieve nerve pressure, correct posture, and improve blood circulation. By addressing misalignments in the neck and upper spine, chiropractic care can significantly reduce the frequency and severity of headaches, providing long-term relief without the need for pharmaceuticals.
Prenatal Chiropractic Care for Expecting Mothers
Pregnancy brings numerous physical changes, often resulting in back pain, pelvic discomfort, and postural imbalances. A Pregnancy Prenatal Chiropractor specializes in safe and gentle adjustments that support the body throughout pregnancy. Chiropractic care during pregnancy helps alleviate back pain, improve pelvic alignment, and enhance overall comfort. Additionally, regular chiropractic treatments can contribute to a smoother labor and delivery by ensuring the pelvis is properly aligned for childbirth.
What to Expect from a Chiropractor in Bentonville
If you’re new to chiropractic care, understanding what to expect can help you feel more comfortable. During your initial visit, a chiropractor will perform a thorough assessment, including a physical examination, medical history review, and, if necessary, imaging tests such as X-rays. Based on your individual needs, a customized treatment plan will be developed.
Common chiropractic techniques include:
Spinal Adjustments: Manual or instrument-assisted techniques to realign the spine and relieve nerve pressure.
Soft Tissue Therapy: Massage and stretching techniques to relax muscles and improve mobility.
Corrective Exercises: Personalized exercises designed to strengthen muscles and improve posture.
Lifestyle Counseling: Guidance on posture, nutrition, and ergonomics to support long-term wellness.
Benefits of Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care offers a wide range of benefits for individuals of all ages. Some of the most notable advantages include:
Drug-Free Pain Management: Chiropractic care provides a natural alternative to pain medications, reducing the risk of dependency.
Improved Mobility and Flexibility: Regular adjustments help maintain joint function and prevent stiffness.
Better Posture: Chiropractic treatments encourage better posture, reducing strain on the spine and preventing long-term issues.
Enhanced Nervous System Function: Proper spinal alignment supports overall nervous system health, which influences many bodily functions.
Boosted Overall Wellness: Chiropractic care contributes to better sleep, reduced stress, and increased energy levels.

Personalized Treatment Approach: A good chiropractor will develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
Comfort and Communication: Choose a chiropractor who makes you feel comfortable and takes the time to explain treatments clearly.

Whether you need help recovering from an accident, relief from chronic headaches, or support during pregnancy, chiropractic adjustments can make a significant difference. CT-2697 Sawbones
It’s backstory time! Saw’s time on Kamino was not fun but it does shape who he ends up becoming and I thought it was finally time to put together a cohesive summary. So here we go...
warnings(!): trauma, slight medical horror, violence
Sawbones was part of a batch of cadets that were assigned to be trained as medics together. From oldest to youngest based on CT numbers: CT-2525 “Quarter” (who belongs to @hetalianskywalker ), CT-2697 “Sawbones”, CT-6116 “Kix”, CT-7007 “Jax” (who Hannah and I made together lol), and CT-9181 “Aiden” (who is another one of my OCs).
When Sawbones was a cadet, around the physical age of 12, he started to suffer from debilitating migraines that were so bad that Kix would end up crammed into a pod with Saw as he sobbed, begging for the pain to stop until he finally passed out. His batch tried to keep it a secret from the Kaminoans but the pain eventually got so bad that Saw would almost pass out in the middle of training. Once it was obvious something was wrong, Saw became the subject of a long list of experiments. Eventually, Saw found out that his cerebrospinal fluid pressure was too high, which was what was causing the migraines.
Sawbones wasn’t always the angry, harsh medic he eventually became. Saw was a very soft-spoken, curious little kid that laughed more freely than most of his batch mates. Even before his batch found out they were going to be trained as medics, he loved to learn and specifically loved science. When he started to struggle with migraines is when his batch started to notice a difference in his personality, which wasn’t a surprise. High CSF pressure can cause changes in personality.
Saw spent a lot of time being tested on as his symptoms got worse. The migraines continued to hinder his ability to train to the point that there was a good chance he wouldn’t leave Kamino. Saw had repeated spinal taps along the length of his spine and various instruments used to measure the pressure in his skull. He went through numerous brain scans, eye exams, and breathing treatments as he continued to deteriorate. It wasn’t until he had a seizure for the first time that the Kaminoans finally operated on him, removing a piece of his skull near his ear. When the surgery didn’t help, they eventually removed some of the excess fluid and created a treatment to stop the overproduction of fluid. Once he was older, Saw realized that all the things he had been put through were unnecessary, the Kaminoans could’ve fixed him and they didn’t. He was nothing more than an experiment to them.
During these treatments, he still participated in training when possible, sticking close to his batch but he didn’t miss the looks he got. The cadets whispered about him, wondering what was wrong with him? Saw’s personality was changing and that’s where his anger really started to grow. He became cold, his curious expressions shifting to something more calloused, and he started to lash out. Most notably, when another cadet thought it would be funny to tease him and poked the back of Saw’s neck, the spot where he recently had a spinal tap. Saw didn’t even remember moving until he came back to himself, straddling the cadet with his hands around the other trooper’s throat. Kix pried him off the other cadet but that was only the beginning of some of the worrisome things Kix and the rest of their batch started to notice.
Saw caught up in the training department once his CSF pressure was back to normal and his trainers noticed that despite being a bit behind the rest of his generation, he was an exceptional medic, having memorized the anatomy for more than a dozen species. Sawbones was also an above-average marksman, scoring within the top percentile repeatedly. Saw’s trainers eventually petitioned for him to be assigned to a battalion when the time came and the request was approved.
It took until after joining the wolfpack that he went from CT-2697 to Sawbones. A name he earned for an extremely gruesome procedure he performed in the field as well as his tendency to perform the tasks/objectives that others may have shied away from. Sawbones may have been a medic but he also did some terrible things in the name of the Republic.
A/N: I plan on doing another post about Sawbones and Keda’s relationship and how they meet. I also have a SFW and NSFW alphabet done for Saw if anyone’s interested 👀

The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
So I asked my mom to do my hair yesterday because she offered! She asked me to pick out stuff to watch on netflix since her hands were covered in hair product. And before you ask yes my curls are popping.
The first thing I picked was Flashback (2023). There were interesting moments, but overall the tone was just. Kinda weird. I rated it in the moment as 3/5, and then a 5/10. Very average, unoffensive, not scary, mid acting, but the flashback sequence was admittedly pretty sick. Also Dr. Bones is just a little guy, justice for Dr. Bones.
So after moving on from the disappointment of that, the SECOND thing I picked was The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017). It was a rich and beautiful experience the entire way through. The movie left nothing to the wayside, went hard (but subtle) the whole time, and was an overall unsettling experience.
TKoaSD is a movie that follows the Murphy family. Dr. Steven and Dr. Anna Murphy are the parents, Kim is their teen daughter, and Bob is their youngest son.
Dr. Steven is a freak. I hate this man. And yet I had so much sympathy for him despite him clearly deserving everything the narrative is doing to him. He's introduced right after a full shot of an open heart surgery, and his first conversation with a coworker is about expensive watch bands and how there's a patient he used to work with who will give the coworker a discount on a watch band with water resistance. He's a materialist. He flexes with his money. And he's been meeting up with some weird 16 year old and gifts him an expensive watch.
Dr. Steven has committed a crime. You could say he broke a commandment. You could even say that he's in for some divine retribution.
I won't say more than that. I don't really believe in the idea of spoilers, but I think it's important to experience the unfolding of this story. The sound design is equal parts beautiful and raw like the end of a live wire. The movie plays with its own quality, sometimes crisp and sometimes purposefully blurred. The sound of screeching instruments paired with raised camera angles captures the feeling of dissociation perfectly. The sirens are haunting every corner of the movie, like the horns of Revelations (if you're into that sort of thing).
The color work is simple, effective, and consistent. The sets are immaculate. There's a scene where the characters are looking for Kim, and they go through multiple rooms. Each room has this almost dollhouse-like stillness, void of life in a way that only the dread of a missing child can conjure.
The acting is well directed. Everyone has this eerie flat tone, and they say such out of pocket shit to each other all the time. There were multiple times when I simply went "God damn" to a line. I did snap when Anna went the fuck off though because, to be fair, she was right. If Anna had to deal with this alone, I feel like she would have simply Handled It, you know? But nah she's married to a very dense freak who loves avoiding responsibility. It makes more a more engaging story, of course.
I'm going to be thinking of this movie for so long. There is one scene that is so fucking sad that my heart ached. There are scenes of certain people crawling that truly brings to mind an animal with a broken spine, dragging itself to a safe place to die.
I give this one a 5 of 5. Excellent movie. I'm placing it on the shelf next to Hereditary.

Different modalities look at different stuff!
Ooh ooch me bones? Plain-film X-Ray or (if it's gnarly) CT!

Ooh ooch me spine/brain? MRI (unless it's 'ooh ooch me ischemic/haemorrhagic stroke or head trauma - then we'll whoosh you into CT for a quick whizz in the washing machine (gantry. it's called a gantry. shh))
Ooh ooch me heart? Echocardiography (Ultrasound), Coronary Angiography and Cardiac CT!
Ooh ooch me malignancy? Can be picked up anywhere, but will probably be biopsied with Ultrasound, CT, or even MRI depending on what & where!
